A/N: Hey all! Sorry for the long wait but with school winding down, I've been busy. Anyway, here's chapter 16! Thanks so much for all the reviews and alerts. It's almost at 100 reviews which is crazy! I appreciate all the support for this story and I hope to continue to get some more. Happy reading!
After Rachel had fallen asleep for about an hour, Santana had arrived back to the loft with Quinn both with excited faces.
"Well my girl Q is back!" Santana said happily as she slid the loft door open. Kurt and Will moved from sitting on the couch over to great their old friend.
"Quinn!" Kurt said happily as he enveloped her in a hug.
"Kurt, I'm so excited to see you," Quinn said as she hugged him tightly back.
"It's good to see you, Quinn," Will said after Kurt was done with his hug. Will stepped forward and opened his arms to his former student, placing a gentle hand on her back.
"You too, Mr. Schue. It's been a while," Quinn replied.
"So listen Quinn, I already told the other guys this but we're on a first name basis now. I would like it if you could call me Will. I'm not your teacher anymore so it's perfectly okay to call me by my first name," Will explained, smiling a bit to see the surprised look on Quinn's face appear.
"That might be a little weird at first but, okay, I can do that," Quinn said with a laugh while Kurt and Santana nodded in agreement, feeling the same way at their former teacher's request.
"So, where's Rachel?" Quinn asked looking around the loft after not seeing any sign of the small brunet.
"Still sleeping," Will replied.
"Really? It's been over an hour and half since I've been gone," Santana said glancing over to the clock on the wall.
"That's good though. She hasn't had much rest this past week," Kurt commented.
"She should be up soon. I thought I heard her move around in there earlier," Will explained.
"Okay, I guess I shouldn't surprise wake her then," Quinn said, slightly disappointed.
"No need. I'm awake," Rachel said suddenly appearing out of her room. "I heard you guy talking and I was already sort of awake anyways," Rachel explained as she saw their confused looks at her sudden appearance.
"It's good to see you, Quinn. I'm so glad you could come for a few days," Rachel said happily as she made her way over to her.
"Me too, I finally got to use the train pass we gave each other months ago," Quinn said with a chuckle.
"Yeah it was about time," Kurt replied.
"Your loft looks nice," Quinn said as she took a moment to look around, really taking in her surroundings.
"Thanks, we've been decorating it since we moved in," Rachel said, taking in how much stuff they actually had accumulated over the past three months of living there. It just kept growing but Rachel didn't mind because it made their loft look like an actual house and something she and Kurt could call their own rather than an empty and plain building.
"Take a look around if you'd like," Rachel commented. "And I'll take your bags to my room," Kurt said.
"So where do you sleep Santana?" Quinn asked walking around the tiny loft. If Rachel, Kurt and Will now lived there, space would be definitely tight. Quinn assumed Will was sharing a bed with Rachel and that Kurt had his own room.
"On this hideous looking couch," Santana replied as she pointed down to the piece of furniture. Rachel rolled her eyes at her comment but fired back.
"Well you could sleep on the floor if that would make you happier," Rachel replied.
"Ha good one," Santana said. "I'll keep the couch," she added.
"That's what I thought," Rachel said proudly.
"We're a little tight on room but we have extra blankets and pillows so you can sleep on the floor with Santana. I hope that's okay?" Rachel asked as Quinn shook her head in agreement.
"That's fine," Quinn said.
"Okay, so who wants to get ready for diner?" Kurt said once he reappeared from his room again. Everyone nodded in agreement and went to help prepare something in the kitchen.
After prepping, cooking and eating, the group sat around the table, relaxing in piece as their stomachs settled.
"So how about we take Santana and Quinn to Callbacks later?" Kurt asked excitedly to Rachel.
"What's Callbacks?" Quinn asked, curious.
"Only the newest hotspot in New York," Kurt replied. "It's a bar where a bunch of people from NYADA go," Rachel added.
"It's really fun and they have a piano to sing at," Kurt said enthusiastically. "What do you guys say?" he added.
"Okay, I'm up for a little fun," Quinn replied. "Yeah I guess me too. I don't have anything else to do," Santana added.
"Great, what about you, Will?" Rachel asked. Will looked up at her unsure. He was much older than the group and he didn't want to feel out of place. He was old and not the partying type.
"I don't know guys. I don't think it's my scene," Will replied.
"Oh come on. You're not that much older than us," Kurt said. "And it's a singing bar. You would fit in perfectly," he added.
"I don't know. I think you guys should go and have fun. You can all catch up with each other," Will said with a smile.
"If you're sure?" Rachel asked while Will nodded.
"I'm sure. I'll hold down the fort," Will said as he placed his arms over his chest.
"Okay, if you insist. I'm going to go get ready then," Kurt said excitedly while Santana and Quinn followed behind.
"Are you sure you don't want to join?" Rachel asked once they were alone.
"It's okay. I'll be fine here. I think I'm just going to unpack some and have an early night," Will said.
"Okay, well don't be afraid to fall asleep in my bed. I know it might be weird to share it at first but I think that will pass after a while," Rachel said as she reached out to briefly touch his arm. Will nodded quietly back at her and placed his hand over hers.
"I will, call if you all need a ride," Will said.
"We won't. We'll take a cab and I'm not drinking, remember?" Rachel said as she placed a hand on her belly.
"Right, take it easy please?" Will asked.
"I will. You don't need to worry about me," Rachel said with a smile.
"I'm going to go get ready," Rachel added once silence had crept into the room.
"Okay," Will said as he watched Rachel walk back to her bedroom.
He took a seat in the kitchen, mindlessly flipping through a magazine that was left on the table. About thirty minutes later the four of them all walked out of the back rooms, dressed in their New York best.
"Looking good guys," Will said with a smile.
"Thanks," Rachel said with everyone nodding in appreciation.
"So we'll be back in a couple of hours," Rachel added.
"Okay, like I said, call if you need me," Will said with a smile.
"We will," Kurt replied.
"Does he ever stop being a teacher?" Santana whispered causing him to grin widely at her.
"It's in my nature, Santana. I'll always care about you guys," Will said proudly.
"Well we better get going," Kurt said as things had quieted down a bit.
"Yeah, bye Will," Rachel said while Quinn and Santana waved as well.
"Bye guys," Will waved back. He watched them walk out the sliding door before making his way back to Rachel's bedroom.
He pulled his laptop out and sat on her bed, making himself comfortable. Clicking on the Skype button, he pulled up the application and logged onto his account to see if anyone was on. Maybe his mom or dad was on and he could tell them all what was going on since he hadn't yet told them the news about Rachel because he was too ashamed to tell them the truth. Sadly though, they weren't. As he was about to close out the application though, a name appeared in the left hand corner.
It was Emma and she was online. Will slowly moved the mouse to hover over the call button, not sure if he should hit it or not. He wrote her the letter a couple of weeks ago and he thought that was closure but seeing her named on his screen only made him curious as to what would happen if he clicked on it.
Out of a moment of impulse, Will hit video call and up on the screen his computer was calling hers. Will's breath caught in his throat after the second ring. On the third ring, Will moved the mouse to end, feeling rejection set in but on the fourth ring, she surprisingly answered it.
"Will, I didn't expect," Emma said quietly, unable to finish her statement once she had appeared on the screen.
"Hi, I'm sorry for calling. I didn't think you'd answer though," Will said honestly.
"I wasn't going to but I don't know, I felt I had to I guess," Emma replied.
"Why?" Will asked.
"Well I read your letter and I've been contemplating calling you for the past couple of days. I just haven't had the courage to do so yet," Emma said surprising Will. He didn't expect her to read his letter or to answer his call at all. Maybe with some time apart, she wasn't mad at him anymore and wanted to talk things out rationally about what had happened between him and Rachel.
"What did you think about my letter?" Will asked.
"Well I don't know. I'm still confused about things. I feel like I should still hate you, Will but I also feel like I can't." Emma explained.
"I know this was a surprise, Emma. I didn't mean for it to happen. I was happy with you, I just did what I did with Rachel out of a moment of impulse. I wasn't thinking that night," Will explained.
Emma nodded her head slowly, taking in his words.
"I know, Will, but I can't trust you now. You broke my heart and that's not something you can gain back," Emma explained.
"I can try and forgive you at some point but I don't know if we'll ever be friends again," she added.
"I understand. What I did was inexcusable. Just know though Emma, that I really did love you," Will said with a tear forming in his eye.
"I know and I loved you but that wasn't enough," Emma replied on the verge of tears herself.
"I guess I'll see you around then. I'm staying in New York city at Rachel and Kurt's loft," Will said.
"Are you done with McKinley then?" Emma asked, curious.
"I haven't talked to Figgins yet but I'm hoping yes," Will said a bit sad to leave but somewhat relieved that he wouldn't have to go back to McKinley anymore and be surrounded by people who were angry with him.
"Okay and what about all of your stuff?" Emma asked as most of what Will had was still in their apartment.
"Just mail it to me when you have the time or I'll come get it next time I'm back in town. If I'm ever back in town," Will said with a sigh.
"Alright, I'll see what I can do," Emma said. Silence appeared on the line, Will staring deeply into her eyes, trying to read her thoughts. She really did look like she was trying to understand but he knew that things would never go back to how they were. They would never be together again or speak to each other like friends.
"Well I got to go," Emma said quietly.
"Right, um bye, Emma," Will said sadly, still holding his gaze on her though.
"Bye, Will. Good luck with your baby," she said softly.
"Thank you, bye," Will said again while Emma waved back quietly. Will's hand lingered over the end button and after a couple of seconds, he finally ended the call.
He sat back against the pillows that were on Rachel's bed and breathed out as he thought about the conversation that just happened.
Emma was talking to him but that was probably the last conversation he would have with her. From their conversation, it sounded like she was completely done with their friendship and Will understood. He understood that not speaking to each other for a while was probably best if each wanted to move on.
It pained Will to see things this way but, that was the reality of his life now and he had to deal. He lived in New York now instead of Lima. He lived in a loft instead of an apartment and most importantly, he had Rachel instead of Emma.
It was all so new but he knew now that he could do it. With Emma not being as mad at him, he felt like he had some closure. The letter helped him a little bit with venting his feelings but finally being able to talk to her helped him close things off the most.
He strangely felt relaxed, unsure of the future, but relaxed. Pulling his phone out, he dialed a number that had to be done.
"Hi, mom," Will said as his mother picked up the phone.
"Will, it's so good to hear from you," she beamed.
"It's good to hear from you too," Will replied.
"How's DC going?" his mom asked making his stomach drop.
"Well I'm not exactly in DC," Will commented.
"What do you mean?"
"Put dad on the line and sit down. You both need to hear this," Will started to say. He waited patiently while his mother found his dad and once both were on the line, he breathed deeply and began to tell.
Meanwhile, Rachel, Kurt, Santana and Quinn had arrived at Callbacks, each exiting out of the cab with smiles. Once inside, they found a cozy booth in the back and each ordered a drink, some alcohol and some not.
"Quinn, you have a fake Id?" Rachel asked surprised.
"Yeah, I got one a while back from a friend in the drama department. I don't use it too often, just when I want to get into the clubs," she explained.
"Enough about me though, how are you? How are you feeling?" she asked as she directed her attention towards Rachel's belly, still a bit surprised that she was pregnant.
"I'm fine. The morning sickness has started, but other than that, I haven't noticed much of a change," Rachel said.
"Well that's because you're only a month pregnant. You'll notice more by the end of the first trimester," Quinn explained, as she recalled her pregnancy and how it changed her life.
"Yeah I suppose your right," Rachel said, nodding her head in agreement.
"How's Mr. Schue?" Quinn asked. Kurt quickly glanced up from his drink to see Rachel's face. Things with Will were progressing but they still weren't up to relationship status yet.
"You all really should start calling him Will. Mr. Schue sounds like we've done something wrong," Rachel stated.
"Well you kind of did, Berry. You're having his kid," Santana said with a smirk. "Oh and now that we're alone, I want details," she added.
"Details about what?" Rachel questioned, already she knew what Santana wanted to know.
"You and him and how you ended up doing the dirty," Santana said while Quinn surprisingly nodded along, Kurt just listening awkwardly.
"Well there isn't much to tell that I haven't already told you guys. I talked to him after Grease and one thing led to another and before I knew it we were kissing," Rachel explained as the flashbacks from the night replayed in her head.
"So you did it with him on his desk? That's pretty hot," Santana interrupted.
"You could say that," Rachel said with a blush.
"Wow, I didn't picture Mr. Schue to be that type of guy," Quinn said.
"The guy who sleeps with former students?" Rachel asked sadly, that she was considered that type of girl.
"No, the one to be so aggressive in the relationship," Quinn explained. "He always seemed like a softy in with women," she added.
"But anyways, where are you guys with each other now?" Quinn asked with Santana and Kurt intently listening.
"Well he's really trying to be supportive and I can tell because he's not as depressed as he was," Rachel commented.
"But you're not dating or anything yet, correct?" Quinn asked.
"Correct, the farthest we've come is that I kissed him back in Lima and he's held my hand a few times," Rachel said.
"Do you wish you were in a relationship with him?" Quinn asked.
"If I'm being honest, I do because I just feel like it would be right. Next to Finn, I feel like he's the only guy that has treated me with respect and inspired me to be my best," Rachel explained.
"You love him," Santana suddenly said, causing Rachel to go open mouthed.
"What?" Rachel asked perplexed. She knew she liked him but she wasn't so sure about love. That was a big commitment and step they haven't even talked about.
"Come on, Berry don't act all surprised. You're having his child after all," Santana said.
"Just because I'm pregnant with his baby does not mean that I love him," Rachel said defending herself. Girls got pregnant by guys out of lust all the time. They didn't always have to be over the top in love with each other.
"Yeah, it's just natural to want to make things work when you are in a difficult situation," Kurt said, trying to look out for his best friend.
"But you wouldn't mind if at some point down the line you two would fall in love?" Quinn asked, making Rachel stop and think.
"Well yeah I guess. If he felt the same way that I did then there wouldn't be a problem," Rachel said logically.
"Jump him," Santana suggested.
"What?" Rachel asked, looking at Santana with wide eyes. "That's a crazy idea," she added.
"To make him want you, Berry, you're going to have to be the one to make the move. He's too afraid of making progress in this relationship because he's scared for some reason. You have to be the one that makes the move and tells him that it's okay to be together," Santana explained.
"Santana has a point Rachel," Quinn said in agreement. "If talking to him about it hasn't really progressed then maybe you should take action," she added.
"What if he turns me down? I can't lose him all together," Rachel said afraid that if she did try to be with Will in a more intimate way that he would deny her and only pull away from her more. She would rather have some part of him in her life than none at all.
"Is he worth it, Rachel?" Kurt asked sincerely.
"Yes, I think so," Rachel quietly replied.
"And you have feelings for him that are past friendship?" Quinn asked.
"Yes," Rachel said again.
"Then be a man and go get him. He already did it with you once," Santana said. "There's nothing holding you back," Quinn added.
"When?" Rachel asked, humoring them.
"As soon as possible," Santana said.
"But you guys are here this weekend and I don't want to blow you off to have sex with a guy," Rachel exclaimed.
"Well hang out here four a couple of hours and you can go back home. You'll be alone," Kurt said.
"Are you guys sure this will work?" Rachel asked, still a bit unsure.
"Positive. The way to a man's heart is through his pants," Santana said with a smirk.
"Now go and we'll get back to you later. We'll down a few drinks here to keep ourselves occupied," Quinn said, giving Rachel a reassuring nod.
"Well if you guys are sure and this isn't making you uncomfortable right now, then okay, I'll go," Rachel said still with unsure eyes.
"Go then," Santana said encouragingly.
"We'll be fine," Kurt commented.
"Bye," Rachel said as she finally found the strength to stand up and move to leave the club.
She felt her heart pound out of her chest at what she was doing when she stepped outside. She was about to jump Will at the loft and make a move on him. It was daring and honestly a bit exciting. Rachel could feel the warmth in her cheeks and her flushed face.
She hailed down a taxi and told the driver that she was in a hurry, eager to get home. She arrived back to the loft the quickest she had ever had and quickly made her way up the steps.
Tugging roughly at the door, she pulled it open with great force.
Seeing that Will wasn't in the living room or the kitchen, she made her way back to her bedroom. She burst in giving Will a look of concern.
"Rachel, what are you doing back so soon? Where's Kurt, Quinn and Santana" he asked as he flipped his legs so they could hang over the bed instead of lying flat.
"Back at the bar," Rachel said as she moved closer to him, sliding in between his open legs. Will eyed her curiously but didn't move away.
"Why aren't you there?" he asked still confused as to why she came back early.
"I want you Will," Rachel said making Will raise his eyes up at him in shock.
"What?" he asked opened mouth and confused, but before Rachel could even explain, her mouth was on his, kissing him in a hungry passion.
In slight shock, Will was hesitant at moving things further. This wasn't like Rachel to throw herself at him but the sensation of her mouth on his made his lips tingle for more.
Instinctively, he laid flat on the bed with his back against the bed sheets. Rachel held onto him as he lowered himself down and continued to kiss him with rough passion.
Feeling the cold hit his skin as his shirt flew open, he realized what they were doing and he sat up immediately, flashbacks from their night together hitting him hard.
"Rachel, we need to stop," Will said, breathless, rubbing a hand over his face.
"Why?" Rachel asked as she readjusted herself to a sitting position.
"I just, I don't know," Will said as he then ran a hand through his hair. Rachel avoided his gaze and looked down at her hands in her lap, afraid that her plan had failed and that she would be made a fool.
"Flashbacks, I suppose," Will finally said causing Rachel looked up at him confused.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"The last time we did this, it changed our lives. I almost feel like we shouldn't until we become more official about us," Will explained. Rachel smiled at the word official, knowing that he had been thinking about them having a future together.
"How do we do that?" she asked.
"Well I could ask you on a date, a real date," Will said with a smile. Now that things with Emma were cleared up, he felt he could move on and be free from her reminder. She would always be a voice in his head, but he wouldn't have to worry about disappointing her again.
"Will, I don't know what to say. That's better than what we were just about to do," Rachel said as bit surprised at his gesture.
"Good, then Rachel, will you go on an official date with me this weekend?" Will asked.
"Yes, I would love to," Rachel said with an excited squeal.
"Great, I'll make the plans. All you have to do is show up," Will said with a smile.
"Okay, I can do that," Rachel said.
"Now, I'm kind of tired. I think I'm going to head to bed," Will said as he let out a quiet yawn. Seeing him yawn made Rachel realize that she was still tired too.
"I think I'll join you," Rachel said as she went in the bathroom and put her pajamas on. Once she was gone, she climbed into her bed where Will was already under the covers.
"Good night, Will," Rachel said as she slightly grabbed his shoulder.
"Night Rach and good night to the little jellybean," Will said as he turned around to face her.
"Jellybean?" Rachel asked with amusement.
"I thought it was a cute name to call the baby until we know the gender. We don't have to, it was just an idea," Will said as he saw the look on Rachel's face that she thought it was silly.
"No, I like it. Our little jellybean," Rachel said out loud with a hand on her belly. Hearing no response from Will, Rachel looked over to find that he was asleep. She kissed his shoulder lightly and turned back around only to close her eyes and drift off as well.
