Chapter 7

Changing ways

"I have only one question left for you, Shego" blue-skinned man put the paper aside. "Why do you want to work for me?"

"Hey, being wanted in 11 countries makes harder to hide, i asked Hench for an advice, and he sent me here. Considering that you have several lairs all over the world, and also a good payment, i thought it would be a good catch." she answered.

"Hmm…good. You hired."

Image became blurry and dissolved in its own colors. A new one started to shape itself, one after another.

"Yeah, all I know is, every time you stop to blab about your big plan, she wins! "

Different locations, a blue-skimmed man, people in red jumpsuits.

"Y'know, for someone who's supposedly a mad genius, I'm not seeing much of the "genius"."

Red- haired teenage girl running around, doing flips and throwing punches.

"While Shego keeps you busy, I shall launch my hypertronic devastator drone!" a giant machine flew upwards in a sky.

"Wait, no countdown?" red-haired girl grabbed wrists with her hands.

"No, no, he's actually learning."

Girl disappeared in a blur and changed into blond boy.

"She's not my girlfriend!" he shouted from his lungs.
"Who-ho-ho-ho-hoa there, never said she was." She smiled smugly
"Oooooh, right…hehehehe…ssss…..awkward."

Boy's skin become blue-ish, his all attire changed, as well as the place. Two sharks swam circles in a pool.

"Uh... uh... you got it! I-I'll just go check the security monitors. Hey, you know that evil laugh of yours? I-I love it! LOVE it!"

A whole bunch of images and voices appeared and disappeared afterwards. Some was short as a moment, some lasted for it felt like eternity. Final image appeared as sudden as previous ones. Shattered glass, pieces of metal with wires sparkling behind them and a pile of melting bodies with black long hair and green-black catsuits.

"YOU BASTARD!" she screamed. "HOW COULD YOU! HOW MANY TIMES I TOLD YOU NOT TO CLONE ME?"

"Well…" blue-skin man shivered cowardly in a corner, covering his face with petals. "Technically they are advanced organic synthodrones…"

"WHO FUCKING CARES?" flame-like glow with black spots lit around her hands. "I TRUSTED YOU!"

"Ha! Trusted a villain, that's a good one Shego!" he tried to joke.

"You know what, you are right, that was stupid of me." flame-like glow disappeared.

"Yes yes." man stood up from the floor. "Come on Shego, we have an evil plan to…"

"I QUIT!"

She punched him right in his nose. Blue-skinned man dropped on the floor unconscious, with blood all over his face. As she went away tears appeared in her eyes, feeling of betrayal and loneliness overwhelmed everything.

Shena opened her eyes and slowly lifted her upper body from the couch. Most of the images and memories disappeared from her head, leaving some blurry ones behind. But last scene was more special. It was permanently burned into her memory. Shena remembered every sound, every detail, every emotion.

"I…She…She worked for DRAKEN?"

Anger grew from the inside with a rapid speed.

"Villain my ass! She was just like that Monkey freek, a lakey, a SIDEKICK!"

Shena's hands lit itself with glow.

"Of course she wanted to change her past. She wasted it on some idiotic job on moronic villain!"

Glow shaped itself into a flame form, black circles appeared in it.

"Preventing me becoming a villain? YEAH RIGHT! More like preventing herself to fuck up her life! Am i THAT pathetic in the future? She had a time machine damn it!"

She stood and smashed a nearby coffee table in pieces.

"And yet all she did is dragging me around to the future! Why did she did it like that, with that device she could just stop herself from contacting Drakken! Or if she wanted to stop being a villain then…"

Shena's eyes become rounder, her heart skipped a bit, bottom lip was shivering slightly. A realization hit her hard. Flame-like glow disappeared from her hands.

"She could save Mom and Dad." Shena dropped on her knees. "If she just warned them…then we wouldn't be near the Rainbow Comet. Mom and Dad are alive, we don't have any powers. No villainy, no heroism. Just life."

Shena sat like that, on the cold floor, trying to comprehend a chain of thoughts running thorough her mind. She was to blame. She had a chance to fix everything and yet she didn't. Did her brothers thought about it? It's been six years, it was possible that they came to this realization too. Why Shego from the future did what she did in a first place? Why this time, this place? Why Ron Stoppable? What part does he play in it? Would she really turn up like her future self if she stayed with her brothers?

A doorbell brought her attention back to the world. She stood slowly from the floor and opened it. Two familiar faces met her with smiles first, but changed to worried expression second later.

"Shena?" Kim asked, looking at her closely. "Are you alright? You look even paler than usual."

"And why are you still in a mission gear?" Ron added.

"Yeah…sorry, i don't feel well, passed out yesterday as soon as i came home."

'How long did i slept?' she thought.

"If you want i can call my mother and she'll give you a lift to the hospital." Kim pulled out her cellphone.

"No…no, it's ok." Shena stopped her. "It's not necessary, i just need some more rest. Going to skip classes today."

"Oh, ok." Kim put her cellphone back. "Call us if you'll need anything."

"We'll visit you after classes." Ron smiled to her.

Shena waved to them as they went toward the school and closed the door. She took off her mission gear and took a shower. Sound of running water and smell of soup helped her to relax a bit. But questions still bothered this girl's mind. Her hair were dried and combed, fresh clothes were picked up from the closet and put on.

Shena was going to do something that she'd never do in normal circumstances. She went to her room, turned on a laptop, and dialed Go Tower as videocall. Just a second later, a face with glasses appeared on a screen.

"SHEGO!" he acclaimed loudly. "IT'S SO GOOD TO SEE YOU!"

"Hego, we need to talk…"

"Are you coming back?"

"NO!" she shouted. "Argh…Are Mego and Wegos around?"

"Boys are at school, Mego left a minute ago to patrol."

"Good. I want to talk to you privately."

"Did something happen?"

"Kind of…" she made a breath to calm her nerves. "I want to ask you: what do you think about Shego of future?"

"Well i don't hate her, she is you after all, but i'm certainly angry at her for doing such stunt." he said sternly. "Sending you six years into the future and miles away from us was a bit of too much. I'm sure there were other ways to prevent you from going the villainous road…"

"Like saving our parents and us from the comet?" her voice cracked up slightly.

Hego stood speechless. His face lost some color, his eyes nervously looking away from hers.

"You thought about it too, right?" Shena asked.

"Yes." Hego said quietly.

"And you still can say that you don't hate her?"

"Yes!" he said it with confidence in a voice. "She is still my little sister, even as a villain."

"Well i HATE her." she shouted and smacked her fist at the table.

"Calm down Shego, tell me what happened." he said sternly.

"I saw her memories, part of her life. It was pathetic. It was miserable. She wasted her time in vain. I don't want to become her."

"You won't, Shego." he tried to calm her down. "You saw the consequences, you know what will wait you if you'll turn bad. Just come back home and everything will be alright."

"No it won't." she shook her head. "You just don't understand…you are probably the reason. The reason i turned up to be a villain."

"Wha…don't say such silly stuff Shego, how am i the reason?"

"I started to think about becoming at least half a year before Me from the future appeared." she said without any mercy. "I counted days to my 18th birthday to finally leave Go Tower. That's the truth."

"How…" Hego was shivering, any color completely left his face. "How did it happen…No, no it can't be… It's some kind of prank, right? Shego? Right?"

"No. It IS the truth Herald!" she sighed. "Just listen to me. I'm not saying this to hurt you, though it's probably unavoidable. I'm just trying to warn you. I don't want for Melvin, Wendell or Wesley going the way She did."

"But why?" Hego asked with shaky voice. "All i did was in order to protect you, help you. I tried my hardest to do it, where did i went wrong. Tell me Shego!"

"You don't trust us."

"I do!" he shouted.

"NO YOU DON'T!" Shena shouted even louder. "You protected us, stood as the solid wall. But can you honestly, in my eyes, say that you are trusting us?"

"I d…" Hego couldn't say it, not in Shena's face, even at the monitor. "I don't…not fully."

"You see?"

"But how can i?" Hego took of his glasses. "I must keep you as close as possible in order to protect. Even if it means to lose some trust, i'm ready to."

"That's where you're wrong." Shena sighed. "You are suffocating us. We need your trust! We need our freedom. That's why i had thoughts about becoming a villain! To obtain my freedom, to break through the wall you build."

"But what if something happened to you, Mego or Wegos?" his voice started to came back to normal. "What if one of you will make a mistake i can't fix. What if one of you hurt yourself or the world will… I must protect you all! "

"You tried to protect us so hard, that you never even noticed." Shena made another breath. "You made that mistake. And the price was girl named Shego becoming a villain."

Hego become speechless again. He couldn't think of anything to say.

"Herald." Shena said calmly. "There are people i want you to know about. It's my new teammates from Team Possible. Ron, Kim, Rufus and Wade. I know them for couple weeks only, but what i saw in them was undeniable trust toward each other. And you know what, i want to give them my trust too. I don't know yet why the Future Shego wanted me to meet Ron Stoppable and why she said that he is the only one who can help…But i know one thing for sure: with them i feel more like a hero than with Team Go."

Hego didn't answer that. He just looked at her with a weak smile, nodded, and closed the video chat. There were a lot of things to think through. A decision should be made. He pulled out the cellphone and dialed one of the contacts.

"Jorge? It's me. Yes. Can you cover me at work today? I have something i need to do, it's an emergency. Please...Thanks, i owe you."

Herald put cellphone in a pocket and went toward his car. Trip took about an hour, but eventually he arrived at Go City Cemetery. He stood before to graves for a minute, gathering his thoughts.

"Mom, Dad…" he said out loud. "…i'm sorry. It looks like i failed you. I tried to protect them, raise them properly, be a good parent-substitute…but in the end, it looks like i made a mistake. Unsurprisingly, Shena was the one to show it right into my face. She might hate herself from the future for missing the opportunity to bring you back, but at least she gave me a chance to fix my mistake before it's too late. What i wanted to say is…i'm going to try something different. I just wanted for you to hear me first... I'll start to trust, not just in myself, but in others too. Please, look after us."

Several hours later, in Middleton, Shena heard a doorbell, second time for a day and quickly opened the door, letting her friends in.

"You look much better now." Kim smiled to her.

"Thanks." Shena nodded. "Uhm, can you sit on the couch over there? I have something i need to tell you guys."

"Wow, what's that?" Ron pointed at the pile of broken wood and sat near Kim on the couch.

"It was a coffee table, i broke it accidently this morning."

"More like annihilated…" Kim commented.

"Anyway!" Shena said loudly. "I have something to say, will you hear me out?"

Kim, Ron, and Rufus noddedsimultaneously.

"Ok…" Shena made a deep breath and started to talk rapidly. "The one who threw me six years in the future to Middleton was me myself from the future, where i became villain and worked for a Drakken, i saw some of her memories while i slept last night. She also told me that the only one who can help me to evade her fate is Ron Stoppable, but i have no idea how. Her time machine broke into pieces, which now in a shoebox in my closet, and she jump into the weird portal before she could explain anything to me."

Shena made another deep breathe in.

"Well…" she asked hesitantly. "Did you understand what i said."

"Yeah…i did." Kim said. "That must be harsh…"

Ron and Rufus just nodded without a word.

"Am i still in a team or…" Shena said but was interrupted.

"Of course you are, don't be silly." Kim reassured her. "But there are a lot of unanswered questions. For example: why Ron? And why did you saw her memories while sleeping."

"I had no idea to both of them, really, but my head started to hurt yesterday, when i heard Drakken's voice. Maybe it triggered her memories somehow…but on the other side how they ended up in MY head is a whole other can of worms."

"You kept pieces of time travel machine on a shoebox?" Ron asked.

"Seriously?" Shena raised one brow in amusement. "That's the first question you want to ask?"

"That's…the only one i could think of…" Ron pet his own neck, feeling a little embracing. "I just thought maybe it's a good idea to show it to Wade, he is a tech-wiz after all."

"It's actually a good idea." Shena smiled to Ron. "I'll go and get it from the closet, can you contact Wade meanwhile?"

"Already on it." Kim pulled out kimmunicator. "Hey Wade!"

"Hey Kim! Any problems?" boy asked from the screen.

"No, not really, just wanted to ask you to look at the pieces of time travel machine from the future."

"Don't joke like that Kim…"

"I'm serious."

"…open front door in 15 seconds."

Wade disappeared from the screen, as Shena came back with a shoebox in her hands.

"He told us to open the front door." Ron pointed on the black screen.

"Ok."

As she opened it, a big flying microwave oven flew through it and landed near Shena. Its door opened, and Wade's face appeared where timer was a second ago.

"Gently put all pieces of the device into synthetic jelly." he said.

Shena looked inside the oven and saw yellow jelly. She put all parts that she had into the jelly and close oven's door. The second it was done, oven flew through the open front door onto horizon.

"That was…strange." Shena was a little shocked from bizarre metal courier.

"That was Wade, you'll get used to it with time." Ron said to her.

"Hey guys!" Wade appeared on kimmunicator screen again. "I got some news."

"Really? That was fast." Kim was amazed.

"Judging by what i see before me, it will take months to understand how does this thing works. But i can say one thing for sure…" Wade, nervous and excited, zoomed and enhanced one of the pieces, showing some strange signature on it. "It was made by me."

Meanwhile in GO Tower, Herald, Melvin, Wendell and Wesley gathered at the round table.

"So?" Mego asked. "What is this unscheduled meeting is about?"

"Mostly about our family and changes that will follow." Hego said sternly.

"Oh, great." Mego said sarcastically. "Changes."

"Don't be too quick to judge." Hego smiled. "First change: we're moving out, i bought a normal house nearby."

"What?" Wendell asked.

"Why?" Wesley asked.

"So you can bring your friends over, of course!" he smiled.

"Really?" both of them asked,

"Of course!" Hego nodded.

"Ok…" Mego stood from a chair. "Who are you and what have you done to Hego?"

"Your confusion is understandable, but i assure that it's me." Hego pulled out a credit card from his pocket and gave it to Mego. "And this is for you, Melvin."

"What is it? My allowance?"

"No. This card is for you bank account."

"Wait…" Mego couldn't believe. "You mean THAT bank account. The one on MY name?"

"Yes, you are 18 now, you can spend as much money as you have."

"Well, there is a LOT of money on that account."

"And they all yours by the right. I trust you and the boys. Whatever decision you'll make in the future, i'll be there for help, if you'll need it."

Mego looked at shocked twins for a second, and turned his head back toward Hego again.

"I don't know who you are, strange man." Mego smiled. "But i hope that you will stay."
