Chapter 15: Wednesday, Field Trip to the Ranch
"You all are allowed to freely go around the place, just make sure you come back by 5 and preferably go in groups. Remember, you'll have to write a report on this trip so make sure to take notes." Urahara sensei instructed before dismissing us. We were at Little Harbor for a level trip.
"I still don't get why they make us do reports on a farm. We're not kindergarteners anymore." Ichigo complained. True, but I think he just wants to play around without worrying about work.
"Well, the teachers ran out of ideas for the venue of our level trip, so this was the best they could get without hearing complaints from the students." Rukia answered. "Let's just try and enjoy ourselves." I was grouped with Rukia, Rangiku, Ichigo and Hitsugaya to go around the place.
"Whoa! Look at all the animals!" Ichigo exclaimed.
"What do you expect? This is a ranch you know." Hitsugaya simply said, making Ichigo flinch. I couldn't help but giggle. Then I went to a nearby fence.
"Look at these pigs! They're so tiny! I didn't think pigs could be this cute! They're so adorable!" I exclaimed as I looked at about a dozen small little pigs, scurrying around their play area.
"…They look tasty." Ichigo quietly said.
"EH! Come on, don't be like that! You'll scare the poor things!" I scolded him.
"But after seeing these cute pigs, I kinda feel bad about eating them." Rukia said.
"Cannibalism, huh…" Hitsugaya commented.
"What are you implying?!" Rukia shot back.
"It says 'Baby Pig Race' here. Wow, wonder what it's like." Rangiku commented.
"Look it's starting!" I said.
Few Minutes Later
"That race was so much fun!" Ichigo said.
"I know! All those little piggies were so cute!" I exclaimed, remembering those baby pigs running with their little feet. "You even won the bet Hitsugaya. That's quite amazing."
"It was obvious that Number 3 was the fastest. Oh yeah here, it was a prize from the race." Hitsugaya commented and handed me a small object.
"A stuffed pig? This is so cute! Can I keep it?" I asked in excitement as he handed me the pink pig.
"I wouldn't want to be walking around carrying a stuffed animal. It's kind of embarrassing so you keep it." Hitsugaya answered.
"Yay, thanks! Aw, it's so cute!" I squealed as I hugged it. I've always been a sucker for cute things.
"Hey look! There's a milking session there! Let's take a look." Rangiku said.
"Wow, I've always wanted to try and milk a cow!" I exclaimed.
"So ambitious." Hitsugaya smirked.
"Leave me alone…" I softly complained and followed Rangiku and Rukia to the barn.
In the Barn
"You're really good Ichigo. Unlike some people…" I praised and it's true. He was one of the few here who didn't get kicked when milking.
"It's quite easy. Here try it." Ichigo said as he stood up and made room for me. After careful instructions, I was able to milk a cow for the first time.
"Hey I'm doing it!" I exclaimed with my eyes gleaming with excitement.
"Makes me want to drink milk. Hey Urahara sensei! Is it ok for us to drink this?" Ichigo exclaimed.
"They're selling some in the gift shop. You can get some there." Urahara sensei answered.
"Man, too bad. I wanted to drink some here." Ichigo pouted.
"But if we do that, there won't be any left for them to sell." I replied.
"That's true. Now that I think of it, cows have it hard. People just comes here and squeezes milk out of them." Ichigo said.
"Squeezing…That sounds worse than it actually is…" I said.
At the Rabbit Farm
"These are so adorable!" I squealed as I hugged a little brown rabbit in my arms. Me and the gang were here, surrounded by hopping little bunnies. Suddenly, I heard a loud shrill.
"Rukia! What's wrong?!" I exclaimed at the fidgety Rukia.
"This…This bunny…LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE CHAPPY!" Rukia squealed as she snuggled a small white rabbit.
"Chappy?" I asked, shocked as well as confused.
"It's a cartoon character which Rukia simply adores. She's had a crush on it ever since we were little." Ichigo explained as we stared at the still squealing Rukia. I see…I don't think she's gonna be letting go of that bunny just yet.
In the workshop
"Seriously?! Pressing flowers, I'm too old for this." Ichigo complained.
"Quit complaining. Just get going already." Hitsugaya shot back.
"I think I'll make a cell phone strap. Oh a four leaf clover!" I exclaimed as I picked the small plant up. "Wow, they're so many of them."
"It's quite easy to make them you know." Hitsugaya said. Sensing my curiousity, he explained. "You need to cut at their growth points for them to grow four leaves. Simply, just poke it with a needle before it grows."
"Sounds, technical." I commented. "Four leaf clovers symbolizes good luck right? So it kinda makes me feel lucky to have one."
"Really? Then what does the dandelion symbolize?" Rangiku asked.
"Uhm…Temptation." I replied.
"Temptation? Doesn't sound very nice. That's a strange one. Change it." Rangiku said.
"You're telling me to change it?! How?" I exclaimed.
"I'm done." Rukia said.
"Whoa…Rukia, that's a very think bookmark." I commented at the rather large bookmark with tons of pressed flowers on it.
"As long as it stays in the nook." Rukia said back.
Outside
Fresh air is always the best. I thought and stretched my hands towards the sky. I turned around and saw a small figure crouching out there. I walked towards it and found a small girl with blonde hair, wearing a pink dress and white sandals crying his eyes out.
"Hey there. What's the matter?" I tried to ask, but the girl wouldn't stop crying. Then I felt someone walking up behind me.
"Haruno. Who is this?" Kuchiki sensei asked, looking down at the small girl. He then kneeled down and looked at her at eye level. "What's the matter? Are you lost?" That was the first time I ever heard Kuchiki sensei talk in such a sweet voice. The little girl responded with a slight nod. "Then let's get you back." He said in a gentle voice, holding out his large hand out for the little girl. The girl quickly grabbed hold of Kuchiki sensei's hand and we started walking off to find her parents. Then the girl slowed her pace and looked towards a field with many ponies.
"Do you want to take a look at the ponies?" Kuchiki asked and the girl nodded excitingly and dragged Kuchiki sensei along with her.
"But Kuchiki sensei, shouldn't we be looking for her parents?" I asked once I caught up with them.
"This girl came here to have fun, so we should at least let her have it." Kuchiki sensei explained before hoisting the girl on top of the fence to give her a better view of the ponies. One brown one came up to her and tried to get the girl to pet it, but she seemed scared. "Don't worry, just pet it. It won't hurt you." Kuchiki softly said and guided her tiny hand to the pony's forehead. Her eyes soon gleamed with happiness as she stroked the pony's head. I couldn't help but be heartened by this scene. I guess this was how he took care of Rukia when she was little. It's kind of sweet.
"Aika!" a female voice cried out. Kuchiki sensei and I turned around and saw woman running towards us.
"Mommy!" the little girl cried out and ran straight for the woman.
"Thanks you so much for finding her." The woman thanked us.
"It's quite alright." Kuchiki sensei replied.
"Make sure you be more careful now, ok?" I knelt down and told the girl.
"Ok! Thank you Mister and Miss!" the girl said cheerfully and walked away with her mother, hand in hand. Such a nice scene.
"You know, I now see why Rukia really looks up to you as a big borther." I suddenly said. I sensed Kuchiki sensei look at me a little shocked. "I mean, you took care of that little girl as if she was your sister, even if it was just for a little while. It's kind of touching if you ask me." Then I felt something land on my head. It was Kuchiki sensei's hand.
"Well, thank you for the complement." Kuchiki sensei softly said and left me there. I couldn't get a clear view but I think I saw Kuchiki sensei blush there. He's such a sweet guy…
How was it?! Good or Good? ;) Anyway, I'm in desperate need of new ideas. All those that are in the reviews are good and I'm saving them when it gets near to the climax, so pls give new ideas.
