Together they had ridden to the hospital to visit Abel. This could be one of the last time they were able to see the little man, since he would hopefully be coming out very soon.
Dani swung her leg over the bike so she could get off. She handed Jax her helmet, which he placed on the seat of his bike. They had never been to visit Abel together before, and she secretly felt a little nervous. Before the thing she had committed to being his mother, and deep inside her heart she knew she still wanted that. Her and Jax were getting back on track, so maybe she still could be.
Jax flashed her a soft smile, placing his hand on her hip as they headed inside. They both knew their way to Abel's room by heart, having visited the baby so often. However, they never had been to see him together, save for that one time when she had accidentally ran into Jax.
Before they entered they both disinfected their hands so Abel couldn't catch any diseases. Jax headed inside eagerly, which warmed Dani's heart. It was amazing to witness the process from wanting nothing to do with the baby, to loving him with all his heart.
She followed him closely inside, watching him staring at Abel inside the incubator. The way Jax looked at him was simply amazing. His eyes were full of admiration and adoration and that was when Dani knew he was going to be a great dad to the little boy.
Dani moved closer to Jax and came to stand next to him, her gaze shifting from him to the baby.
"He's growing so fast, isn't he?" she said breathless. Abel seemed to be sleeping once again, and Dani hoped it were good dreams he was having.
"Yeah, it's amazing," Jax replied.
The door opened and a nurse entered. "Oh, I didn't realize you two were here," she spoke. She placed Abel's file on the table and opened up the incubator. "You can hold him if you want? It should be safe now, especially since he's coming out so soon."
It seemed as if Jax's eyes lit up when he heard the nurse's words. "Yeah, I would love that," he spoke.
Dani smiled softly as the nurse picked up Abel and handed him to Jax. He was a natural, without being told, Jax held the baby as if he had done it a million times before.
She was speechless to say the least. When she saw him holding his son in his arm, she knew this was what she wanted. Dani wanted to have a family with Jax. She was ready to put everything that had happened between them behind her. This was the way she wanted to live her life, with Jax and Abel right by her side.
"I'll leave you two to it," the nurse said, quickly leaving the room.
"He's so beautiful," Dani whispered softly, not wanting to wake up the baby.
Jax remained silent but she could spot tears of joy in his eyes, making her go teary eyed as well.
After studying the baby for a few minutes, Jax raised his head and looked her straight in the eye.
"Dani," he began. "I want to be with you. I can't live without you, I've realized that when you were gone. I know the things I have done were a big mistake, and I just wanted to apologize for it."
Dani nodded, tears beginning to fall down her cheek. This was the moment she had been waiting for.
"I love you," Jax added.
"I love you too," she replied. There was no point in going on about him cheating forever. She had accepted his apology. He had regained her trust. Dani would give this one last shot, because she realized she too couldn't live without him.
Dani leaned forward to kiss him while smiling softly.
Dani couldn't remember the last time she had felt so happy. When they got home from the hospital she felt like she was in a state of bliss. No one could ever make her feel more alive than Jackson Teller could.
"Hey babe," Jax shouted from the living room.
Dani was in her bedroom organizing her work clothes for the following day. Working all the shifts was starting to get its toll on her, her body aching all the time, but she could not and would not rest until she found out who was stealing her money.
"Yeah?" she yelled back, neatly folding her black pants and putting them in the closet.
"Can you come for a second? I got something to show you."
Intrigued, Dani quickly put down her work and shuffled to the living room where she found Jax sitting on the couch. She lowered herself next to him before he handed her an envelope.
"What's this?" she asked, her eyes scanning the yellow paper.
"Open it," he replied.
Dani did so and what she found was a thick stack of paper. She read the words on the front.
"The Life and Death of Sam Crow?"
"It's my dad's manuscript," Jax started to explain. "I found it in storage. He writes about what his vision was for the club."
"I never knew this existed," Dani said, giving it back to Jax.
"Me neither," he replied. "I'm reading it now, but it's still hard to make out what exactly he meant with everything. I'd like you to read it too."
Dani's eyes widened. "Are you serious?" she asked to be sure. "Is this meant for my eyes?"
With that she was thinking about all the illegal businesses SAMCRO was engaged in. If there was something about that in the manuscript, she doubted she was allowed to know about it. Old ladies often knew something about what their old men did, but they never knew everything.
Jax nodded. "Just read it and tell me what you think. Maybe you can make some sense of it."
Jax had left for the clubhouse again. Life of an outlaw never stopped, even during the weekends. That means Dani was alone at her house, a perfect opportunity to start the manuscript.
He had been right. From the first few pages she had read, it was hard to make anything out of it. It was hard to distinguish what John Teller exactly was saying, but the fact that Jax entrusted her with this meant something.
She also really appreciated the fact that he told her about this in the first place. It made her wonder if she should tell him about the money being stolen, and the ATF agent who was giving her regular visits. But while she was continuing on reading, her thoughts got only more confused.
When her phone started ringing, Dani finally stopped reading, not sure how long she had been sitting there.
"Hey," she said after seeing it was Gemma on the caller ID.
"Hey, sweetheart," Gemma spoke. "You up for helping my decorate Abel's room?"
"I kinda swore off decorating for at least another couple of years," Dani laughed. "But I'll make an exception."
"Good, hurry up before I finish everything without you."
"Took you long enough," Gemma remarked when she opened the door to let Dani in.
"My car doesn't go faster than that," Dani shot back, going inside.
It was kind of weird how she and Jax were living in two houses at the same time. Soon it was time for them to permanently move in with each other, and since Jax's house had more bedrooms than her, that seemed like the logical choice.
"I need you to help me paint," Gemma said, ignoring her comment while leading her to what is going to be Abel's room.
"Not paint," Dani mumbled, having flashbacks to her café. She had hoped to never touch another paint brush again, yet here she was.
Gemma had already gotten half way through the room, so luckily Dani didn't need to paint a lot. Most of the furniture was still waiting to be assembled and a plastic cover protected the carpet against paint splatters.
"So, how are things between you and Jax?" Gemma asked. She had opened one of the boxes to start on assembling.
"Pretty good, as a matter of fact," Dani replied, realizing she hadn't brought Gemma up to speed about their current developments.
"So you're getting back together?" she asked.
"Yeah," Dani said, frowning. She still couldn't believe it either. But it appeared that they really were back together, and she loved it.
Gemma turned around to face Dani, looking her in the eye. "You're serious, right?"
Dani nodded.
"That is great news. I was getting scared for a moment that he would end up with one of the CaraCara whores."
Gemma had already left when Jax returned home. The room was almost finished. The paint on the walls needed to dry, but apart from that everything was good to go. Everything was ready for Abel to come home.
"Hey," Dani greeted him. He give her a kiss before taking off his cut and getting a glass of water.
"Did you survive decorating?" Jax chuckled.
"Barely," she replied, laughing as well.
She had missed this. Being at home with him by her side. It made her happy to think she could have more moments like this in the future.
He lowered himself next to her on the couch. Dani pushed herself up against him, her head resting on his shoulder. With his thumb, he softly stroked her arm.
Dani turned her head, leaning in to kiss him. She didn't ever need to feel guilty about doing this again. Jax was hers again, and she was his.
A/N: Woohoo! Dani and Jax are back together! :D It had to happen sooner or later, as we all know she really wants him back. Besides, I couldn't go on about the cheating thing forever.
Also, I seem to almost have 100 reviews! So I had the idea, that after I pass a 1hundred reviews, I'll immediately upload the next chapter instead of in a couple of days. So please, review if you want to see what happens next and I'll hopefully see you soon. Take care! :D
