Jax had gone to the café with her, keeping her company until her back up would come. She expected it to be a busy day, but any free time she had between serving clients she would spend with him.
"Jax," Dani spoke, trying to get his attention. He had been studying the news paper, taking sips from a mug of coffee. "I gotta tell you something."
He looked up and cocked his eyebrow. Dani leaned forward and so did he to make sure no one else could catch anything from their conversation.
"I think someone is stealing money from the cash register," she explained. "Don't know who it is, though. But if this continues, I might soon have a real problem."
Jax ran his fingers through his hair, sighing softly. "You, sure?" he asked.
Dani nodded. "Positive. I see no other way in which the money could have disappeared."
"You want me to do something about it?" Jax suggested.
Quickly she shook her head. That was the last thing she wanted. This time, she would fix it without his help. This was her problem and for once she was going to leave him out of it.
"I'll take care of it," Dani started. "Just didn't want to keep it from you."
"I'm glad you told me," Jax replied, before smiling softly.
Lana had come to her rescue an hour after Jax had left. The café was packed so Dani immediately put her on the job so she could retreat to the kitchen to bake new supplies and have a well deserved break.
She took Bruce with her as well, so he could get some fresh air out on the parking lot. Dani had been taking him with her ever since she got him. While she had stored her gun safely in a cabinet after shooting Luke, Bruce still kept her company and gave her a sense of security.
As she was about to retrieve a mixing bowl from the storage, her phone went off.
"Hey babe," Dani spoke after seeing it was Jax.
"Hey, has Ope been in the café today?" he asked her.
"No, why?" Dani replied after trying to recall if she had seen him. There had been many people at the café today, but she would've remembered if Opie had stopped by.
"No one has seen him. Pretty sure he's just out riding somewhere, thanks anyways, darling."
Dani could sense a hint of concern in his voice, but decided not to continue asking. Opie wasn't one to split and just leave everything behind. She made a mental note to call Jax if she saw either him or Donna passing by.
It had been some time since she had seen Wendy, so Dani decided to pay her a visit after work. She knew she was going to have to attend another SAMCRO party tonight, but she figured she could just drop by in time.
The SAMCRO party was going to be their first appearance as a couple again, and Dani had to admit she couldn't wait to see everyone's faces.
From the hospital Dani had gotten Wendy's current address. She was very glad to see she had checked into a sober living house. This was definitely a step in the right direction.
The residence was just outside of town, but it was easy to reach with her car. Dani hadn't gotten in touch with her to let her know she was coming, but she hoped Wendy wouldn't mind.
Dani got out of the car and made her way over to Wendy's house. The neighborhood looked very clean and well maintained. There was no bar or any other bad influences in sight. The houses itself looked small but cute, perfect for just one person.
She knocked on the red door which belonged to Wendy's house. After a little while, she opened the door, a surprised look on her face when she saw Dani standing in front of her.
"Hope you don't mind me dropping by," Dani said a little awkward.
Wendy looked good. It seems that she finally managed to wash her hair after all this time and her skin had a surprisingly healthy glow. If Dani had to be honest she actually looked pretty good.
"Oh, Dani. This is unexpected," Wendy laughed just as awkward. "Come in, though."
She stepped aside so Dani could pass. The door led straight to the living room, which was light and airy. There were a few magazines scattered around, and the television was broadcasting something in the background.
Hoping this wouldn't get too awkward, Dani sat down on the couch, leaning back before crossing her legs.
"Can I get you something to drink?" Wendy asked.
"Water is fine," Dani replied, her eyes on the glass of water already on the table.
It took Wendy a moment before she returned. She handed Dani her drink and sat down on the arm chair opposite from her.
"How's Abel?" she then asked.
Dani quickly swallowed her sip of water so she could speak. "Great actually. He can come out of the incubator soon and come home. It's really exciting."
Wendy's face seemed to lit up. "So he's out of danger?"
Dani nodded. "It looks like it."
"That is amazing news," Wendy, laughing in disbelief.
Dani couldn't imagine what it would be like, living with the guilt of almost killing your child. But it seemed as if Wendy was starting to get her life back on track.
"So, how are you doing?" Dani asked. She wondered if Wendy actually ever got any visitors? She didn't have any family living near by, and the amount of friends she had, had rapidly declined after her overdose.
"Good," Wendy nodded. "Living here has really helped, and I'm a month sober already."
"Congratulations," Dani said sincere. She didn't wish addiction on anyone.
"Thanks for stopping by, Dani," she spoke after a short silence. "You're basically the only person I have left."
"You're welcome," Dani said with a soft smile.
She had spent the entire afternoon reading the manuscript. Jax had called in to let her know it was going to be a late one, so Dani decided she could spend that time wisely by reading it. Later that evening they had to attend a SAMCRO party, and to be honest she was really looking forward to it. This would be their first appearance as a couple again and she couldn't wait to see Ima's face.
The words John Teller had written were vague, and Dani didn't really know what to make of it half of the time. When she thought she understood what he was saying on one page, he completely diminished his words on another.
She could see how Jax had trouble interpreting the manuscript. Especially since she wasn't a part of the MC world for long, Dani did not understand certain phrases and meanings.
The manuscript also revealed a whole different side of SAMCRO she didn't know much about. It was obvious that Jax was committed in illegal crimes, but never did she imagine how much violence he had to endure.
Him trusting her with these words made her feel special. Dani doubted many people read the manuscript and she was glad Jax was showing and telling her everything. He was really trying to gain her trust back, and so far it was working.
Jax returned home to pick her up before the party. Dani had quickly fixed herself a dinner and put the rest she had left in the fridge for Jax.
"You ready to go?" Jax asked when he found her in the living room. They were already running late.
"Yeah," Dani nodded, pushing herself upwards from the couch to give him a kiss. Every day when he returned she always had the habit to check his face for any scars or wounds that were not there before, but he seemed to be in one piece today.
When she wanted to grab her bag, her eyes fell on the manuscript which reminded her she wanted to talk about it with him.
"I read the manuscript, by the way," she said, nodding towards the stack of papers on the salon table.
Jax raised his eyebrows. "What did you think?"
"I don't know what to make of it, Jax. I didn't grow up in this world, but all I know that the club is far from what he wanted it to be."
Jax nodded. "Yeah, that was what I made from it as well."
"Did your mother read this?" Dani asked, before she might say something to Gemma she shouldn't.
"No," he replied quickly. "And don't mention it to her, okay? Don't want her to know I have it yet."

They entered the clubhouse together. Jax had his hand on her waist as he softly pushed her inside, guiding her to where the rest of the guys were.
Dani couldn't help but smirk when they arrived. Going public like this meant a lot to her. This time they were not going to fuck it up again. This time, they were going to make it work.
Within minutes since she had stepped inside, her eyes locked with Ima. She was surrounded by a group of CaraCara actresses and they were all whispering amongst each other. Dani shrugged before she turned her gaze back to Jax who had gotten a drink for her. Seeing Ima's reaction was what she had lived towards all day.
"Glad to see you two back together, Dani," one of the croweaters told her with a smile.
"Me too," she nodded.
The croweaters and CaraCara whores were two separate groups. Where the croweaters showed respected to other old ladies, the girls from CaraCara didn't. Dani always felt like they acted like they were better than the rest of them, feeling like they were entitled to anything they wanted.
"I'm gonna talk to Gemma," Dani told Jax softly.
He nodded, giving her hand a squeeze before letting it go.
Dani found Gemma sitting by the bar, smoking a cigeratte. Next to her sat Luann Delaney, Otto's old lady, who was also the owner of CaraCara.
"Hey, baby," Gemma said when Dani approached.
She slid on a barstool next to her and the prospect immediately put a glass of beer in front of her.
"You too look good together. I'm glad you've managed to patch things up."
Dani nodded. All these comments on how glad they were she and Jax were back together were a little overwhelming, although it was good to hear people considered her a good old lady for Jax. She once heard someone say, good old ladies can make or break a club, and while she never really saw herself as an old lady, it was satisfying to know that other people think she was.
"Ima won't be happy, though," Luann spoke up, taking a drag from her cigarette before putting it out in an ashtray. "She had been talking about how she was finally going to get together with him after you guys broke up."
"That's my life goal, Luann. To make Ima unhappy," Dani chuckled. Both Gemma and Luann chuckled as well.
Secretly she had to admit it felt really, really good to know Jackson Teller chose her above anyone else in the clubhouse right now. All the pornstars had a better body than she had, not to mention a lot more experience. Maybe it was the mentality. Dani was with Jax because of the person he was. Ima only saw the VP of a powerful and well respected MC.
The rest of the evening she had spend talking to practically everyone. Juice had filled her in on the latest in his love life and she had to admit she also really enjoyed talking to the prospect, who seemed to have snatched up a girlfriend himself.
Dani leaned back in her armchair, her eyes scanning the room. From the opposite side, Jax' eyes caught hers and he smiled softly, coming towards her. Even though she wasn't a big party girl, she did truly miss this and it felt great to be back.
"Hey, babe," he smiled, offering her a hand to pull her up.
Dani placed her hands in his neck, giving him a kiss, making sure it was so obvious that Ima could see it. She had to make it clear that Jax was hers now and off-limits for everyone.
"Wanna take it to the back?" Jax smiled mischievously.
"Oh yes," Dani replied with a smile, her heart fluttering in her chest.
A/N: A new chapter, like promised! WOW! Thank you so much for reviewing. Never did I ever dare to think this story would get so many followers. THANK YOU!
As you might've guessed, we are approaching the end of S1. I will not stop there, I decided I have enough material to at least continue through season 2. I really want to go through all the seasons and maybe more, if my imagination allows me.
So, once again, thank you so much for reading and reviewing, and I'll see you next time :D
