Interesting confrontation, huh? Really harsh, eh? I can't wait for you readers to fully understand Otto's problem. Too bad it's going to be a while. Unfortunately, whenever I write any kind of story, I seem to always stray away from the main story for a while and have the other characters doing things, like for the next couple of chapters. They'll be very Reggie and Twister oriented. I plan on revealing Otto's source of conflict in either chapter 10 or 11. I still haven't decided yet. It all depends on how I end chapter 9.
I really had a difficult time coming up with a title for this chapter. I've always been bad at naming chapters. Anyway, for this chapter, Twister tries to cheer Reg up, given Otto's actions. Sorry, there will be no Otto for this chapter. You won't see Otto again for a good while, I'm afraid. Of course I'm going to have Reggie and Twister discuss what happened with Sam at some point.
Oh, and to mike2000, you are so right! I don't remember Follow the Leader much since I've only seen it once and it was long ago, but I do remember the Secret Spot ep you made reference to. Twister looked like he was going to get physical with him just to get an answer. That's very Lars like. See, Twister is more like Lars than even he'll probably admit. lol
Oh, I just thought of another incident dealing with Twister. The ep with the Luge race. Sam was trying to cheer him up, and he kept telling Sammy that he wasn't in the mood Twist even said something harsh to Sam too. When Sam asked if he wanted to see a "face plant" or a "tush plant", Twister told him coldly that in his case, both were the same, or either he asked what the difference between the two were. Okay, maybe that's not that harsh, but I personally interpreted it that way, especially because of what Twister compared Sam's face to. That's probably a bad example, though, since he was peeved for that ep anyway, and I guess he just needed to vent, and took it out on Sam, but isn't that always the case?
Out of curiosity, Rocket Power fans, has there ever been an episode where Twister's been somewhat mad or annoyed with Reggie aside from the 'Zine Dreams' episode? I honestly can't think of any. I mean in the sense where he isn't speaking to her or doesn't want to hang with her. In Zine Dreams, Otto and Twister annoyed her so much, she put out an article in her Zine trashing the pair of them. Sam printed them out and delivered all of them (and personally, I think Sam knew what he was doing. lol)
As for the person who asked about the films, you can go to the end of this chapter for a synopsis.
Let's see, something else, the only reason this chapter got uploaded so fast is due to the fact that I'm going to be a bit busy this weekend, so I just decided to put it up earlier than usual. After this week, I'll go back to uploading on either Sundays or Mondays.
Here I am rambling again. Sorry about that. Now, as always, I do not own anything dealing with Rocket Power. Klasky-Csupo has that honor.
Chapter 06: Reggie's Nondate Date!
"Otto, no wait," Twister reached out and called quietly as he watched his best bro skate off. 'I wonder what he meant about that traitor stuff. How am I a traitor? What did we all do to cause him to go all aggro on us, anyway?' He took this moment to look over towards Reggie, who hadn't said anything for a good while. "Hey, um, Reg…are you okay?" She didn't answer. "Reggie?"
"What did we do, Twister? Why is he so upset with us?" she asked distantly. "Why does he…hate us?"
"Um, well, just forget about him for a while?" Twister's reply was hesitant and questioning. He wasn't sure exactly how to respond to Rocket Girl's inquiry since he too was in the same state of mind as she was.
"I don't think I can, Twist." She lowered her head and heaved out a depressing sigh. "What he said was so…so harsh…"
Not wanting to see Reggie in this bummed out state, he felt this need to cheer her up. "Um, um, R-Reggie, I, um, was heading up to-to the Pier, w-want to come with me to the amusement park?"
The boy felt his face growing slightly warm while a slight blush crept up to his face. He felt more nervous than ever, and his stomach felt like it was tying itself in knots. He even started to slightly sweat, and his heartbeat had become irregular.
'What's wrong with me? I hope I'm not getting sick! I'm just asking her to hang. We've gone to the amusement park loads of times…but it's usually Ottoman, Sam, Reg, and me, or us with other kids from school. I know, maybe that's why I'm nervous.' He inwardly shook his head. 'No way! Why would I be nervous? Reggie is one of my best buds. I've known her as long as I have Otto…practically forever. Reg and me are buds…no need to wig, Twist…'
"I'm not really up to it," she wryly mumbled.
"Aww, c'mon Rocket Girl," Twister begged with loads of determination, while also trying to put aside his feelings of awkwardness, "you need to get your mind off of Ottoman. You'll just stay upset if you do."
Reggie looked up and stared Twister right in his dark, innocent eyes, "But I-"
He turned his head away slightly to avoid her gaze. He knew it would cause even more uneasiness for him. "I won't take no for an answer," he then smirked, "Regina, and I'll race you there," his smirk then turned to that of a crafty Lars-like grin, "unless you're scared I'll beat you."
Reg gave the younger boy an arrogant, determined smile that all of the Rockets wore whenever challenged. She took no offense to Twister's addressing her as "Regina" as both he and Otto would do that to edge her on. Even Sam's done so on occasion. Reggie also found it a bit sweet that Twister was trying so hard to cheer her up, but at the same time, she was slightly surprised that he hadn't gone after Otto. After all, the two were usually inseparable, attached at the hip, despite the current events, but he did seem to look as if he really wanted to after Otto took off.
"Rocket girl, scared? As if!" She walked up to him and poked the boy in the chest with her right index finger, her left hand resting on her hip. "I accept your challenge, Maurice!" She winked. "Reggie Rocket isn't afraid of anything!"
"Great, let's go."
She nodded and rushed into the house to get her money and to lock up. He followed behind her so that he could leave his backpack. The only reason Reggie agreed to go with Twister up to the Pier was because he seemed so determined. She just couldn't turn the boy down for his thoughtful gesture.
Twister waited at the bottom of the stairs, wondering what was keeping the girl, not that it mattered. He was just glad she was coming along with him.
"Okay, I'm ready!" she called as she ran back down the stairs. She'd changed out of her sandals and into her sneakers.
She stopped and stood in front of the taller boy, who couldn't help but stare at her. He didn't know why he stared; he just couldn't help himself. Reggie seemed quite pretty to him and no matter how much he wanted to deny it, he just fully couldn't.
"Yoohoo, Twister!" She waved a hand in front of his blank face. She'd seen that look before, especially since Twister had the tendency to space out at times when in deep concentration over something, which wasn't very often unless it involved one of his video projects, or either when he was bored and just tuned the entire world out. Reggie assumed he was probably just in deep thought over their confrontation with Otto or over his peculiar behavior. Any other time, she would've assumed it was the latter cause. "Your brain frozen or something?"
"Oh, um, sorry," he apologized hastily, finally noticing the girl's hand being waved in his face. "I was just…thinking about some things."
Reg gave him a gentle half smile. So he was thinking. There was a first time for everything, the girl thought amused. "I thought you were the one trying to get Otto off of my mind. Looks like I'll have to do the same for you."
"Otto?" He thought for a moment. "Oh, um, yeah…Ottoman." He grinned nervously. Otto was the person, surprisingly, furthest away from his mind, but how could he tell her that he was really thinking about her? About how pretty she was? About how important and amazing he was to him? He knew it would freak her out. It was starting to freak him out that he actually felt that way, and had for a long time, but as he was getting older, these strange feelings were becoming stronger. "So, ready to go now?"
"Yeah!"
'Oh, why can't I get Reggie off of my mind?!' he inwardly groaned. 'Why do I keep thinking of her as pretty? She's only a friend. Friends aren't supposed to be pretty. I've never really thought of anyone else like this before, and I've never had anyone on my mind like this either. She's always on it! Could I be sick? Yeah, maybe I'm allergic to Reggie since I only act like a lame-o when I'm around her! I wonder if I can take some medicine for that…'
"Twister?"
"Oh, yeah. L-let's go!"
Reg gave him a curious look. Something about him seemed different to her, and this hadn't been the first time. It had been happening more and more lately. She just couldn't put her finger on it. Maybe it was his thoughtfulness, although he'd been that way for years, but he seemed more in-tune with it. Maybe he was growing up in some way? She could only shrug as she followed him out, locking the door behind her.
"Okay, on your mark…" Twister started.
"…get set…" Reggie positioned herself.
"GO!" they both shouted in unison.
The two fastest of their usual foursome shot off, like bullets from a gun towards the Pier…

Slightly earlier…
"I wonder what's going on," Sam said as he stared out of his bedroom window.
He thought he'd heard some yelling and decided to see what all the commotion was about. He then saw Otto skate by in a huff. He called to the skaterboarder, but he didn't even look back.
'I wonder if he and Reg had a fight. I guess she'll let me in on what's happening later, if that's the case. I should let her cool off before I even attempt to talk to her. I'll try calling her later on tonight.'
He turned his attention back to his computer to finish up his latest project. He was programming another game for the Computer Club. He was, once again, in competition with a boy named *Oliver Van Rossom, a brainy boy that Sam befriended years earlier. They were both interested in computers and was just as much of a whiz kid as Sam was when it came to them. They were pretty much friendly rivals. For this one, both were trying to come up with an original concept for a computer game.
"Oh well," Sam sighed as he stared back at his computer screen.
A short time later, he heard some voices shout out, "GO!" He went to the window again to see Reggie and Twister running up the street.
"I wonder where they're going. They couldn't be going after Otto because he skated off long ago. They're not geared up, so no Madtown. They don't have on their swimsuits or boards, so they can't be going surfing."
He shrugged as he, once again, went back to his work, but then abruptly stopped. 'I wonder why they didn't invite me along to wherever it is they're going…'
Unable to answer his own question, not fully caring one way or the other, due to how anxious he was to go back to his computer programming, he went back to work.
"Sam, could you please bring me a cup of hot tea?" a raspy voice called with a cough.
"Coming, mom!" the boy called back to his mother, who was suffering from a mild cold…

Author's Notes
Note 1: I just thought I'd apologize for Oliver. I forgot that he was in advanced high-school classes when he first debuted in the series, but since I'd already written it, I didn't feel like changing it. I'm sure someone as smart as him would have graduated high school already by the time Sam and the others reached it. He'd probably be graduating some high-class university by the time the Rocket gang got into middle school.
Anyway, the main reason I forgot about this, is because of the fact that in later episodes, you see Oliver in the same class as Eddie, Otto, and Twister, which is just strange, right? It was in the episode where Conroy was Otto and Twister's teacher. Maybe Oliver decided that he wanted to do kid things and got put into the grade he would be in if he were an average kid. I guess we can also infer that Oliver is the same age as Sam, Otto, and Twister.
Oh, adding on, another surprise was that Animal was in the same episode...in Otto and Twister's class. How weird is that?

Note 2: Okay, this will be a long note. I will write the synopsizes here about the movies.
The Race Across New Zealand
This is the first of the three movies (the third has never aired and I actually mention it next chapter). The kids saved up enough cash to pay the entrance fee to participate in the Junior Waikikamukau Games, which are held in New Zealand. The games consists of four extreme sports events and each group must play their way through. There are two types of winners. Overall best team and then an individual award for the most first-place wins. Twenty-five years earlier, Ray participated in the very first one (there wasn't a junior division back then) and lost in the final competition, which was skiing. He came in second place to a guy named McGill. Ray ends up being a bit tough on Otto, putting the notion in his head that he had to win and had to be the best because McGill had a son who was also participating in the games. Both of the McGills were pretty snobbish, but Theodore (the son) wasn't as bad as his father and was actually a fair sport.
Let's see, what else happened…oh yeah. Because of Ray's idolizing of Otto, he majorly ignored Reggie and the others, but Twister and Sam didn't take it as badly. This really annoyed Reggie because Ray was showing favoritism. Otto became conceited and edgy during the races. All of them had to be done in a group effort.
The first competition, if I'm recalling right, was a mountain bike race. Otto won it, but Ray ignored Reggie, Twister, and Sam. As Sam pointed out, because of Reggie and Twister, they managed to win the first race. They had fast times.
The second competition had them riding in inner tubes through a cave in some rapids, which had glowworms (Twister was scared of them, which was pretty funny given how Otto kept saying they were brain sucking worms), then after they got out, they had to stack the inner tubes on a totem pole, but it's high, so they all had to stand on each other's backs and shoulders. At the bottom was Twister, then Otto, then Reggie, and then Sam. Their group was way ahead of McGill's and the other teams, but they soon caught up because they were having trouble with the pole because of Sam being so short. He couldn't reach it to just slide it on (like the other teams), so he had to resort to tossing them, like in a ring toss. Unfortunately, the last tube landed on the pole tilted. They ended up losing their balance and toppled over. The others didn't know what to do, so Twister got an idea. He jumped on the three inner tubes at the bottom and bounced up high enough to knock the other one onto the pole.
For the final part, they had to skateboard to the finish line down the mountain or wherever. Of course Otto had the lead…skateboarding is his thing…with Reggie and Twister right behind (to be honest, seems those two were always paired up and evenly matched, they were with the biking, and for this race and for the final one), but his wheel flew off (it was sabotaged). Reggie and Twister caught up to him, to see if he was okay. McGill passed them and Twister was pretty much telling Reggie, "Let's go" and to have Sam fix Otto's skateboard when he caught up. Otto told Reggie to give him her board, but she refused and kept going. Twister decided to give Otto his board and to wait for Sam. Sam gave Twister his board, and he fixed Otto's. Reg made it to the finish line and tied with McGill, but instead of praising Reggie on a job well-done, he scolded her for not giving Otto her board and costing him a first place win.
The third competition was a windsurfing competition. Sam showed them the route for them to go on a map, warning them of certain spots. Otto was ahead, but when he turned for one part, he ended up in a sandy spot, which caused him to fall over. Reggie and Twister (as I mentioned earlier) were pretty much together and evenly matched, kept going. From shore, you could tell Ray was disappointed, even though Reggie and the others were still in the race, and Reggie had edged ahead and was going to win. When she noticed Ray not paying any attention to her and worrying over Otto, she purposely wiped out, and ended up blocking Otto off causing him to come in second. Ray didn't even really notice her. Twister did check to see if Reg was okay, just like when Otto's board broke. To be completely honest, Twister was the only one who seemed to try the hardest to keep the group together. He seemed to really be into the teamwork stuff, and even when Otto lost, he would point out that, as a team, they were doing good, even though Otto didn't want to hear that. At one point, he tried to do their handshake, but Reggie was too peeved, Otto was still on an ego trip, and Sam didn't feel like it, and was more interested in studying Maori customs.
After the windsurfing race, Otto and Reggie started to argue. Otto was mad that Reggie cost him his win and at Sam for his bad directions (someone did tamper with their map). Twister tried to play peacemaker by, once again, pointing out that as a team they all were doing well, but Otto called him a "mug" (apparently a New Zealand insult equivalent to 'shoobie' or 'kook') and from that point forward, Twister didn't want to deal with Otto. Ray did eventually come around and figured out what was wrong with Reg and how he was trying to relive this competition through Otto. Father and son, that type of thing. He did apologize, as even he didn't fully realize it. Later on, Twister was cold to Otto and stuck up for Reggie. After a while, they all made up and Reggie managed to get Twister to forgive Otto.
The final competition was snowboarding. Otto was in the lead, McGill trailing him (probably) and then Reggie & Twister after him. Like I said before, seems those two were always evenly matched and together. Guess both are pretty fast. Anyway, Twister ended up boarding over a rock, and hurt his leg. Otto stopped, and rushed back to Twister and Reggie. He told Reggie to go on, while he helped Twister.
At the end, Reggie ended up coming in second because McGill's son took a shortcut that his father showed him, meaning he cheated. You could tell that he didn't fully want to do it. As for the other things that went wrong, he had nothing to do with it…his father did. He wanted to win fair and square. After his win, as he had the most individual wins, he refused to accept the award. He told everyone how he'd cheated in the last race (as he wouldn't have known about the earlier ones) and took a shortcut. His father then got upset and inadvertently confessed to how he'd used that same path years ago to ensure his win and said that the medal should always be in the McGill family. He had kind of a "doh" moment and they took his medal away and gave it to Ray who should've originally won it. Both Otto and Reggie were tied and both were crowned Prince and Princess Waikikamukau and their team was the overall fastest (mainly thanks to Twister and Reggie, imo).
That's all of this film. Still my favorite of them.

Reggie's Big Beach Break
This movie is about Reggie, obviously, and her getting a "big break." It was sort of an MTV Spring Break type of thing, minus the cussing and women flashing everyone. Just think MTV spring break visiting Ocean Shores. At Madtown, they saw her skateboarding and she was on TV. She became pretty much a celebrity for the week and was asked to host her own segment where she would interview famous stars visiting (skateboarders) and to introduce them. Unfortunately, Otto was grounded most of the time, and when he had the chance to be on TV and perform his famous skateboard trick, Reggie selfishly changed her mind and didn't introduce him. The fame and recognition had all gone to her head and didn't want Otto to get it.
Twister, with Sam's help, was obsessed with meeting a singer named Shaffika. Sam mainly just wanted an autograph so he could make money off it. When Otto found out Sam and Twister was interested in meeting Shaffika, he was like, "You actually like her?" Sam was pretty much going on about her musical talents and then admitted that he actually just wanted to make some money as an autograph from her would be worth a lot on the internet. They tried so hard to meet up with her, and Twister was tricked by Lars and even mentioned that one of the games in the area was for a romantic dinner with Shaffika. Twister went into fantasy mode with that one of him with her at a nice, candlelit dinner. So…who said he didn't like girls? lol Anyway, at the end, he did end up meeting her and even got a kiss from her and looked all goofy and lovesick…just like how he was with Breezy (imo). Hm, maybe Twist likes older girls. Hm…. lol When Sam went up to her, to get an autograph, she was going to give him a kiss too, but Sam shied away from it and held the notebook in front of his face ("No kissing! Only an autograph please.") lol
Hmm, since I can't give a decent, or detailed, summary myself on what the movie was about, I got this from the Rocket Power Heat website:
Summer's here at Ocean Shores, and things are heating up. After looking at Twister's tape, a channel company decides to go to Ocean Shores. Otto has looked forward to this for a long time, but gets grounded for not helping Ray at the Shack by trying to nail the 009 on the ramp. A 009 is an inverted 900. While Otto is suffering, Reggie gets noticed by Crystal and gets all the fame, while Sam and Twister try to search for Shaffika. Will fame split up Otto and Reggie, or will it bring them closer together. Let's just say, the sibling rivalry is heating up, and emotions will get out of control.
