His foot had stopped an inch in front of her stomach. Alvarez looked from her to Jax, frowning. "Is this true?" he asked Jax.
Dani lifted her gaze, her eyes meeting with his. Jax was speechless. He shook his head as an answer to Alvarez' question. Quickly Dani spoke up again.
"He didn't know. I only found out a few days ago."
With the back of her hand she wiped the tears from her cheek. She needed to be strong if she wanted to make it out of here alive. She could only hope Alvarez was not as heartless as she had always believed him to be. He wouldn't murder a woman and an unborn child, woud he?
"This complicates the matter," Alvarez said. He began pacing around Dani.
Her eyes had not left Jax's. She should've told him the moment she found out, but she wanted to make sure she really was pregnant. There was a pregnancy test in her bag, waiting to be used again. She was going to tell him tonight.
"I'm sorry," she mouthed him in silent. A tear fell down her cheek again which she quickly wiped away.
"Marcus," Clay said. Dani could see he too was in shock by her news. "That heroin is not ours."
She could see Jax's hands flexing. Opening and closing. She knew he wanted to come to her, take her into his arms. But right now that would probably result in someone getting shot. The only thing left to hope was that Clay could convince Alvarez otherwise.
"Who tipped you off about the heroin anyway?" Jax spoke. It was the first time his gaze left hers after she told him she was pregnant.
Alvarez hesitated for a moment. Finally he spoke. "Salazar."
"Calaveras?" Chibs exclaimed. "They have been wanting our heads on sticks for ages."
"This was a set up, man," Jax continued. "They don't have the manpower to take us on. But you do."
Dani's eyes followed Alvarez closely. She noted his facial expression had changed. It had grown more soft. As if he realized he had been wrong. Could this be the end? Could they convince the Mayans it wasn't them?
Alvarez sighed. "Get her up," he spoke, nodding to his Sgt.-At-Arms.
He stepped forward, grabbing Dani by her arms to get her on her feet.
"You can get your old lady, Jax," he continued.
Dani's eyes grew wide as Jax rushed towards her. She wrapped her arms around his neck, trying her best not to fall over. "I'm sorry for not telling you sooner," she whispered in his ear.
Jax shook his head. "Let's just get you home, okay?"
"I'm sorry about this misunderstanding, Clay," Alvarez spoke. "Salazar will hear about this."
"Damn right he will," Clay spoke.
Juice had taken Jax's bike so he could be with Dani. She was seated on the passenger seat, waiting for Jax to come. She watched him through the window handing his helmet and keys to Juice. Her mind was already trying to think of stuff she was going to say to him. This would be the first time they were alone since he found out she was pregnant.
Her eyes followed him walking towards the van. Jax opened the door and slid on the driver's seat. Before switching on the engine he turned himself towards her.
"You okay?" he asked, his eyes concerned.
Dani nodded. The first kick in her stomach hadn't hurt that much. "I'm fine."
Jax placed his hand on her cheek. "We should go to the hospital, just in case."
"What are we going to tell them?" Dani knew they couldn't tell the doctors she had been kidnapped by a rival biker gang. SAMCRO did not need the cops on their back.
"We'll tell them you slipped and fell down the stairs," he replied. "They'll believe me."
"I hope so," she replied. Dani didn't want to lie, but she knew that lying was the only option she had right now.
They split up from the rest of the guys when they reached Charming. When Dani looked in the rearview mirror she noticed that Juice had driven along behind them, probably as back up. They still were not taking any risks.
Jax had his hand on her waist as he helped her inside. Dani felt exhausted. As if she had been awake for weeks.
He brought her to the front desk of the first aid, explaining the situation. The nurse immediately brought her to a different room and told her a doctor would be with her soon.
Dani felt butterflies in her stomach. The nervous were really beginning to kick in. Jax held her hand when she laid down, resting her head back. If I close my eyes right now I would fall asleep, she thought, so she tried her best to keep her eyes open instead.
"What if the baby is hurt?" Dani suddenly asked, breaking the silence that hung between them.
"Then we'll try again," Jax said. His voice sounded so reassuring that Dani instantly felt better. We'll try again. His words kept repeating over and over inside of her head.
"Good afternoon," the doctor said when he walked in.
When her eyes met with the doctors her heart started to pound. It was getting serious now. Soon she would find out of her baby was going to be healthy. Dani looked up to Jax, who gave her a reassuring nod and softly squeezed her hand.
"So," the doctor began. "The nurse told me you fell down some stairs?"
Dani chuckled nervously. "Yes. Tried to get up in the attic. Didn't work out the way I planned it."
Don't fuck this up, Dani. The doctor could never know the fact that she was kidnapped.
"Accidents like that happen all the time to pregnant women. Let's just take a look, shall we?"
Dani nodded and lifted up her shirt to expose her belly. The doctor spread a gel like substance over her stomach. It was cold, but the cold was surprisingly soothing. It calmed her down a bit.
She watched his hands closely as he took the scan and placed it on her lower stomach, trying to find a sign of life.
Her gaze shifted to the ultrasound scan, but she couldn't see anything on the screen. Everything was just a black and white blur.
"If you look closely here," the doctor said, pointing towards a point on the screen. "You'll a tiny dot. That right there is your baby."
Dani let out a sigh of relief. She had no idea if she was looking at the correct thing, but the doctor had confirmed that the baby was still there.
"Is it healthy?" she asked.
"Looks normal. Falls like that usually don't make much impact."
Dani smiled and looked up to Jax, who smiled in return.
"You can make another appointment at the front desk. I suggest you come back in another month or so." He handed her a picture of the ultrasound.
Dani nodded and accepted it. She scanned the picture. She still didn't know exactly what she was looking for, but it didn't matter. What mattered was that her baby was healthy.
"Oh and don't worry, you're baby will be completely healthy, okay?"
Dani nodded again.
"I'll give you two some privacy. Have a nice day now."
"Thank you," Jax spoke.
They both waited to speak until the doctor was out of the room. Dani pushed her shirt down, staring at the picture of the ultrasound the doctor had handed them.
"I'm never going to let something like that happen to you again, Dani. I promise," Jax began.
"I believe you," Dani replied. "Let's just forget about this day, okay?"
Jax nodded. His stern face suddenly turned into a playful smile. "I bet you it's gonna be a boy."
Dani laughed. It felt good laughing again. "It's gonna be a girl. Mark my words, Jax."
He leaned in, giving her a long kiss and Dani felt like she could explode from happiness.
A/N: You might be wondering if I forgot about this story. Don't worry, I haven't. I admit I have been busy with my other fanfic, which you can check out if you want to. It's called Flaming Star. I will finish this story. I have already planned out all the final chapters and it's just a matter of finding the time to write them. I have decided to end the story at chapter 50, which seemed like a good number to stop. So hopefully I can still keep the story exciting until the end.
Please let me know what you thought of this chapter, and until next time! Take care :)
