Joceline POV
"Hikaru?" I said, my voice soft and unsure. He smiled awkwardly.
"Actually, it's Kaoru."
The dullness of his voice made me want to immediately hide in a corner and stab myself. His voice sounded hurt yet expectant. I had already crazily shouted at everyone, and now I'm getting him confused with someone else! No one likes that and now he's probably torn to pieces inside! He paused for a slight second then a crooked smile spread across his plastered face. I tilted my head.
"What?"
His smile faded replaced with a troublesome bored expression. "Oh nothing," he said, then leaned up against a nearby turning tree, "So, Joceline, did you get lost?"
I blushed nervously and looked towards the ground, "Yes..."
He smile then changed for the third time to some sort of unrealistic, mischievous compassion, and he pointed me out towards the obvious direction of the hot spring. It was a good thing because I would have gone in the complete opposite direction. Apparently, lunch was due over fifteen minutes ago but no one could find me. They were all waiting back at the entrance the back yard, if that's what they call it.
Still feeling irritating itches all over me I scratched my shoulder and Hika- I mean, Kaoru smiled even more. I looked over at him curiously, "What?"
"You have a spider on your leg." He said as-a-matter-of-factly.
Seeing that face on him made me want to laugh till I somehow exploded. He was wearing a tank top with white a blue stripes with blue athletic shorts. 'I would have to use that to tell Hikaru and him apart.' I thought, then his cursed words registered.
I froze, "Come again?"
'He better be lying', I thought clenching my teeth. I hate bugs, but only the least tolerable ones like centipedes, mantises, and spiders. But mostly spiders because when I was young I was bit by a house spider and was swollen for a week. He smiled even more mischievously and nodded with a small chuckle.
"Yes, and it's pretty huge..."
Frozen in fear my eyes began to water as I looked down at the tan and clear bug with millions of eyes staring up at me. Letting out a piercing scream I hastily bent down to slap it off and felt a huge stung trail through my entire body. The spider unknowingly jumped off landing on a nearby leaf as I clung to the growing red spot on my calf.
Tears running down my eyes I glared at the spot and my breathing pace began to quicken. 'I got bit; I truly got bit!' My mind shouted as I frantically felt around my shivering body for more. Kaoru was laughing so hard I doubt he noticed. Trying to ignore the thought of my allergies I searched for the spider hoping it wasn't near.
I was now balling, hopefully quietly, and on my butt sitting on the ground. The red spot was swelling fast and I remembered how my mom told me I was allergic, but I thought she just said that so I wouldn't go near them and to scare me! Feeling my leg go numb I rubbed the area surrounding it trying to calm myself down, and Kaoru's laughter instantly disappeared.
"Joceline," he said, his voice now softer, "are you alright?"
"I know I'm such a baby..." I cried, then let the tears fall, "BUT IT HURTS!"
His eyes changed to concern as he rushed over to me, and I covered my face afraid to be seen. My eyes get all puffy red along with a plugged-up nose when I cry making my nonexistent attractiveness decrease like air pressure in a popped balloon. Feeling something against my back I jumped and reached back to knock the spider off my shirt. He tried to grab my hands as they began to frantically flail around.
"Hey, Joceline, stop it. I'm trying to help!" He shouted finally taking hold. I kept my flooded eyes shut and shook my head.
"No..I don't n-need any help-p..."
I felt his tender hand brush against my bare back as I was lifted up. Hearing him grunt I covered my face again. 'Oh gosh, now he is carrying me! I'm not thin enough; he could hurt his back or something!'
"Hika-"
"Kaoru..."
"I'm sorry..." I muttered just wanting to give up on life. I felt his chest rise and fall against me as he chuckled.
I thought Haruhi said the twins never usually separated. But yet here Kaoru is carrying me back in his arms. Where is Hikaru? Well, I could just apologize to Kaoru. But I want to in front of everybody; to prove how serious I am! It was so ungrateful of me to yell like that and-
"For what?" He curiously asked, shaking the hair out of his eyes. I let out a shaky sigh, "For everything; letting myself get bit, crying like a baby, making you freakin' carry me, and shouting at everyone earlier."
"That's a lot of things." I felt his laugh against me once again, "You know, I'm surprised you haven't made yourself sick over worrying and crying like this."
Opening my eyes I heard a sharp intake of air as I looked up at him with my hazel eyes. The rest of them were probably red and freaking him out enough. I closed them and watched the ground disappear beneath me.
"My mom always stopped me before I could..." I muttered quietly, not that he could hear from my shaky tone.
Squeezing between two tall bushes I watched my back and legs nervously for more killing spiders. My body shivered and I felt his eyes land on me.
"Are you cold?" I shook my head.
"No..."
"Then is it?" I gave him a weird look as he happily smiled down at me, "Come on, you can tell me."
"I was worried there would be more spiders, and one of them would get on me." I said as he adjusted me in his arms.
I seriously mean no offense to this when I say that I felt like I was flying being held by his noodle arms. It's really awkward; me dangling in his arms with mine twiddling in my lap with roses eyes and cheeks. He laughed yet again and sighed. Kaoru was really strong for his looks and I felt my body tense up. 'He has his hands on me.' My thoughts strained in fear.
"No need to worry, I've got you." My cheeks began to get redder and nearly melted by this point, and I waited for us to make it back to where the others are.
Kyo was back on the roof, and I think I even saw him curiously look down at us. Tohru was the first who ran out then with the rest following behind them as Kaoru carefully sat me down. Tamaki avoided eye contact as Kyoya stayed writing on his large thick clipboard beside him. Hikaru then looked up with a weirded out expression, and Haruhi looked from him to me and back again, eyes confused and glad in one great mix.
Smiling at the large ensemble I politely thanked Kaoru for his help, or meant to as Hikaru nearly tackled him from separation. Hunny ran up to me and hugged me in one huge leap almost knocking me to the floor. Tohru gave me a generous hug.
"We were so worried!" She cried, then her blue eyes met mine, "What happened to you're eyes?"
My cheeks flushed again as Haruhi came up to greet us, and she was dragging Tamaki easily along behind her. Pulling him up to me we faced each other quietly, and I answered Tohru's earlier question.
"I had a little run in with a very mean insect, he...he..." I laughed it off as Tamaki bravely cleared his throat.
"Joceline..." He said calmly, and I held my breath, "I'm sorry if I offended you in anyway, shape, or form earlier. I got too carried away, and my stunning personality became too much for the particular moment."
Haruhi slapped his shoulder and shook her head at him as I let out a laugh. I felt bad that he had beat me too the apology especially since it was my fault. Even though he blames it on his "stunning personality" it still meant a lot. Looking down at my dirt covered feet I nodded and gave him a joyous smile.
"It's okay...actually I wanted to apologize too." Facing everyone I let out a slow sigh and brought in another encouraging deep breath. "It was wrong of me to yell like that in front of you guys, and especially since you guys brought me along as a request from my cousin whom you barely know. I was out of place, and I am also sorry." Taking a chance to see their reactions I quickly added, "It won't happen again; promise."
"It's alright, Joceline." Tohru said opting for another hug, and Momiji came rushing down the back steps out being the first one to notice my bite.
"What happened?" He nearly cried, getting Kyo's attention from on the slanted roof. I saw the tip of his hair peak up before he walked over to the edge and leaped off landing next to our little group where Yuki was unexpectedly standing. Kyo jumped back as soon as he saw him and shoved his hands in his pockets. They muttered words to each other, and none of it was nice.
"I got bit by a spider earlier," I painfully explained, "and it left a mark."
Kaoru leaned in and bent down to examine it, and his eyes grew big with amazement, "It looks swollen; more than earlier anyways."
Hunny began to cry, "Takashi, is Joceline gunna die?" He asked rubbing his eyes, and Mori shook his head.
"No, Mistukuni, it probably wasn't venomous."
Yuki suggested we all go in to have lunch, and Tamaki asked if there was anything I needed. Shaking my head I motioned to say no but Yuki interrupted offering the Sohma family doctor to come. I backed away surprised and shook my head, "Oh no, I couldn't ask you to do that." , but he insisted happily.
'Wow, spider venom is a great conversation starter.'
I gave him a smile before sitting down next to Haruhi and Kyoya, who was still busy currently writing on his laptop. I saw his eyes glare down at my bite and noticed a little smirk. Narrowing my eyes at my empty plate I grabbed a roll trying to hide my thoughts. The hostess kindly brought out dinner and gave us all a warm greeting. Each of us were afraid to speak unbeknownst of what she would do. Yuki and the others talked to her normally for us, and got her to leave without a breakdown.
Haru looked up from across the table at me, and he was probably trying to make me uncomfortable because of the rude greeting I gave him. I heard his throat clear as his mouth opened.
"I'm sorry you all had to see that earlier," he said then did a little bow, "could you forgive me."
'He is so polite, but how when he nearly killed Kyo back there?' I thought then smiled, "Of course we can, why wouldn't we?"
His eyes had this dark look in them unnerving me as his eyes met mine, "Black Haru."
Most of us were confused by what he had said and were almost in utter shock once he explained. He had a split personality, I almost confused it for a disease, and it was quite normal to find problems like that within his family. His words, not mine. I don't see it as a problem at all; I mean, how is it when everyone else has issues too? Everyone has problems, and it's just some more than others.
Kyoya called my name from my right making me jump, and turned his laptop over to show me. There was a picture of my bite only a little more of a massive scale, then a series of pictures. He asked me to point out the spider that bit me which was easier for Kaoru then me. I asked him from the other side, and he easily pointed to a the tan clear one helping me regain my memory.
"Yeah, I think that's the one." I quietly said as the two talked. Haruhi placed her hand on my shoulder and smiled.
"Don't feel bad; they do this all the time." She said, probably referring to the shut out impression they were chunking at me.
Yuki got up and walked around to see the picture and nodded his head, "I think I remember seeing an example picture of this from school."
Kyoya turned it around for everyone to see, and it was mostly the Ouran kids who were impressed. Haruhi muttered something to the effects of, "damn these rich people", and continued to grab food for her plate. The food did look good, and seeing all the types of sea food made my stomach growl.
Back in America you could only get the bad stuff that sat in a packaged box for days; unless you were on the coast that is, then you're food would be delicious and fresh with preservatives still added uncaringly. Thinking about the gross crap made me almost sick to my stomach, and I quickly set my eyes on the shrimp that was bigger than my wrist. I took several with some sauce before going towards the crab legs.
Haruhi got most of those and I laughed seeing her practically inhale them. Hikaru made some snarky comment and she tossed several empty shells at him. I broke one open and took a bite storing the wonderful taste in the back of my mind. I would never get sea food this good again after leaving.
Yuki had left to go call the doctor as we finished, and he ate most of his quickly so he had the time to talk alone. Excusing myself I got up to go use the restroom. Kyo made a face and asked for me not to stupidly get lost, once again it was his words not mine, and I mimicked Haruhi by tossing a shrimp tail at him.
"Don't worry about me," I said then giggled, "stupid cat."
Once I left I crossed the entrance to go find the bathroom. Yuki's voice carried through the halls, so I couldn't help but notice. He was in the main office, and his voice was quiet. Giggling I leaned up against the door hoping to get the doctors name, and that way I could thank him properly if the showed up. Though it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't.
"No, they haven't found out. Don't worry Hatori, and please come. The girl has gotten bit and it looks worse every time you look at it." His voice echoed worriedly. There was something on the other line and Yuki sighed. "I understand, and as long as they don't come near us that won't be necessary."
Stepping back I looked at the door in shock. Yuki was more stuck up than I thought, and even though he acts so nice it's all probably a fake. Why would we have to stay away from them? They must have a pretty tight secret if they don't want anyone to know. 'It's probably related to that Haru kid.' I thought before walking away. If they have a secret that big then I won't bother myself with it. It's theirs and its none of my business anyways.
Turning down the hall I tried my best to remember the way. Everything in this place looked alike, so I was almost dizzy from searching. On the bright side I knew the doctors name, so I could thank him when he showed up. There were footsteps behind me, and I turned to look for Haruhi or someone. We probably weren't the only guests.
A hand latched onto my wrist, and I felt my body got up against the wall. The dizziness got to me as they swung me around to face them. Feeling the sting from the bite I winced. Orange hair came into view as I saw a hand hit the wall next to my face. I looked up.
"Why did you call me that?" Kyo demanded.
* I hope you guys liked it! and since I wrote this and the previous chapter in the same weekend. But there was extreme editing to do and I want to try to the best of my abilities to make a story you guys want to read. I'm sorry if some thoughts aren't italicized because I wrong this on my iPad and when I copy it to wattpad or fanfiction the thoughts and everything I had don't copy under their font. And I promise it seemed longer on my pages app so please if this is considered short don't kill me! But I hoped you like it and don't forget to tell me what you think and comment!
By the way, which POV would you like next? I can't decide between The Twins or Kyo. And whose POV would you like to read later on?
Until the next update. :)
