Chapter 5: With Love, the Impossible Becomes Possible

Allison woke the next day with a serious case of morning sickness. Rolling over in to a seated position on her bed, she reached over to the nightstand and pulled out one of the new experimental morning sickness patches and applied it directly to her shoulder. Immediate relief washed over her and finally, she felt like she could begin her day. Not that she really wanted to.

Memories of her fight with Jack yesterday made her want to crawl back in bed and never get out. Remorse gripped her for all the ugly things she'd said to him. He hadn't deserved that kind of treatment, especially when he didn't know the core reason she had been so distressed.

In her heart of hearts, she knew she had to tell Jack what was going on, but she wasn't sure how to approach the subject.

Jack, the night we were together, there was an accident. Or, Jack, you're going to be a dad again. Or, her most absurd thought… Jack, I'm knocked up.

However she did it, she had to start by apologizing to him for her behavior and that meant picking up the phone and inviting him over. She had to do this face to face.

Jack arrived at Allison's home at precisely 7 o'clock, ready for what, he wasn't sure. When she'd called him that afternoon, she'd hadn't given much indication of what she wanted to talk to him about. She did tell him that it was important and clearly, that was enough for him to say yes. He knew something was wrong with her, she was in anguish and he wanted to get to the bottom of it because the Allison he knew when never treat him in that manner.

For a split second as he got out of the car, he had the inclination to read her the riot act, but the desire faded quickly as his heart wouldn't allow it.

Jack knocked at the front door, the intensity of the moment overwhelming him. He felt something big was about to happen. Whether it was good or bad, only time would tell.

Upon entering, they could both feel the thickness in the air of things that needed to be said. It was awkward indeed. Thankfully, Kevin was there, waiting to have dinner with his mom and his best friend. Just the addition of presence helped to ease the situation as both he and Allison momentarily reached a truce and enjoyed each others company like they hadn't in weeks.

Jack thought to himself, it was nice to have a buffer, but surely it couldn't last. And before they both knew it, it was time for Kevin to go to bed, leaving them alone to face reality.

Jack wanted to give her the opportunity to explain herself, but she continued to hem and haw, totally avoiding what she really wanted to say. But he couldn't take the waiting any longer.

"Allison, this is silly. We're friends aren't we?"

"Of course we are, Jack. You're one of my very best friends."

"Then tell me what's going on. What happened between us?" Jack didn't allow her to answer. He had to get out what he wanted to say. "Why have you been ignoring me? Why didn't you tell me you were leaving town? Why… why were you so cruel to me yesterday?"

Allison knew all that he said was true and more. "Jack, I have been horrible to you and I want to apologize, profusely. There's nothing I can say to right all the wrongs I've done. But you have to know, there was a reason. I was just to afraid to confront the truth."

"I know what happened between us wasn't planned, but that doesn't mean it was a mistake either."

"I know that. And when I said it was a mistake, I used the wrong words." Allison moved from the chair directly across from his and sat catty corner. "When I left, I needed time to get away and think about some things. It wasn't just you that had me vexed. It was dealing with the fact that Nathan was gone and wondering if I was truly ready to move on. It was knowing that you are my friend and I didn't want to ruin what we have. And then there was the one thing I was most afraid to tell you."

Jack waited with bated breath for the big reveal, but she hesitated. "Well…"

"Jack, I'm… uh, I'm pregnant."

Jack's sat very still, mouth agape at her confession. "You're what?

"I think you hear me correctly."

"Is it Nathan's?"

Allison didn't verbalize her response but slowly shook her head right to left.

"Whew. I don't know what to say." Jack stood from the table and paced to the couch and back again.

"Its mine, then."

"Of course!"

"What? How?"

"I think you know the answer to both those questions."

"So that's why you ran away? Why you hadn't spoken to me since then?"

"Yes." Allison stood and faced him. "Look Jack, for the last few weeks, things haven't gone the way either of us would have liked, but here we are. I just wanted to say that I don't expect anything from you. It's not like this was my intention, and we're not a couple. I don't want this to come between us. You mean to much to Kevin and me."

Jack's face grew red and Allison knew she'd make a huge error by her choice of words.

"Don't expect anything from me? How dare you? Do you really think I'm the type of man who would knowingly choose not to be involved in my child's life. As for this coming between us, you should know me better than that. There is nothing I wouldn't do for you and Kevin. And as for us not being a couple, who says we can't be. Do you really think I slept with you out of pity or because I was taking advantage of the situation. Sure, this isn't how I wanted to tell you, but you and Kevin mean the world to me. Allison Blake, I am in love with you."

Allison was surprised by his boldness. Jack had played coy for so long it was refreshing to see him be so upfront. She beamed from ear to ear as her tears began to flow.

"Jack Carter, I love you too."

That was all it took as Jack rushed over and picked her up in his arms. A salacious grin plastered on his face, he covered Allison's mouth with his and possessively took control.

Carrying her up the flight of stairs, he made a beeline for her bedroom. Using his foot, he kicked the door closed behind them.

Slowly he lowered her to her feet. Entranced by her beauty, he removed a wisp of hair from in front of her face, then gently caressed her cheek, moving past the nape of her neck downward until they settled around her waist.

Then in one fell swoop, it was if a tornado had hit.

Pants, underwear and tops strewn across the room. The moment was frenzied, as years of pent of emotions raged through the both of them. Being with her again like this, Jack had felt as if he'd hadn't been with a woman in years. And unlike the last time they were together, there was no need for foreplay. They proceeded at once to the main event.

Steadying himself atop her, Jack pumped with long hard strokes taking enormous pride in the sounds he emitted from her. Allison dug her neatly trimmed nails into his flesh as she pleaded for more. She lifted her head from the pillow and took hold of his bottom lip and with deft purpose, bit hard until she tasted blood. She was ravenous for him which only managed to stroke his fire all the more. What could he say; Jack was enraptured with Allison. He had been since the day they'd met.

Allison then took control, looping her legs around his waist, she pulled him into her even deeper. And Jack was only to happy to submit.

She let go with wild abandon; her tongue over his lobes, sweet kisses to his Adams Apple, teeth gnawing at his neck, Jack's entire body grew warm.

He then rose just enough to stare into her scintillating eyes. Not sure he could hold on any longer, he let go. This time there was no need for cotius interruption as she joined him in release.

Two hours later, as they lay naked atop the comforter, limbs intwined amongst the mass of bedding. Beads of sweat still clung to them, both of them utterly satisfied.

Basking in the afterglow, they spoke hopefully of their future together and agreed on one thing. This was a dream fulfilled and though neither spoke the words, they were both sure they would be linked to each other for eternity.
