^Yugi^
Remember when all this started and I pretty much said I wasn't as stupid as I look? Well, apparently the Thief King didn't notice. I've been his pet for over a week now. At first I was confused. What the Pharaoh said and what Bakura said, they didn't match. And for a few days I didn't remember Bakura punching me, but I remembered and now I know exactly what happened.
Bakura doesn't know it but when he goes outside to see about the Pharaoh, I follow him. I haven't gone out of the temple but I can hear pretty well. I heard Mit growling and snorting at the Pharaoh and his men. I've heard Bakura curse when they almost saw him, and I heard the Pharaoh talking to Mit, how he wouldn't stop looking for me. I don't know what to think about the Pharaoh though. I know he's not trying to kill me, or Mit. I know he cares, if even a little. He wouldn't still be looking if he didn't, but now there's this little voice in the back on my head that says he's looking for me because he thinks Mit is a god, or because he wants Mit for himself. I don't know, maybe Bakura is rubbing off on me.
Another thing I know, I have to get away from the Thief King.
I've been watching him, acting stupid and weak to make him think I'm falling for him-like that would ever happen. Every time I sleep he watches me, he sits on the floor beside the bed when I sleep during the day. At night he'll sleep with me, he wraps his arms around me so I can't even move without him knowing-I almost had a heart attack the first time he did that. The first thing he does whenever I wake up-no matter what time it is-he goes to see what the Pharaoh is doing. That's when I follow him-to be the Thief King he's never noticed me following him. Then he finds food for us, and we waste time playing games or just talking. Sometimes he'll say something about a friend of his, he'll look really sad but his eyes light up and he holds his left hand -I think he has a crush on his friend. Sometimes he'll go for a "walk" and disappears for hours. He'll go farther into the temple, away from the cave the leads to the surface, I don't follow him when he does, he's probably watching me and I can't risk him seeing me do something other when what he expects.
He's taking a "walk" now, he must be rather far into the temple or caves, wherever he goes, because I can hear shouting from the temple entrance, I can make out Seth's voice along with at least two others that I don't recognize. I'm tempted to run toward them, if I started running and Bakura saw me I wouldn't make it out. I'm crotched in a corner staring at the door, I want to get out of here so much, I just can't until I'm sure I can make it without Bakura catching me.
Slowly I get up and walk to the door; quickly I look around and walk deeper into the temple, looking for Bakura. I walk far enough that I can't hear Seth shouting and pause. If Bakura is this far away maybe I could get out, I could see Mit again.
"Yugi, what are you doing?" Bakura hisses in the dark, suddenly appearing from the shadows ahead of me.
"I heard voices from the surface, I was scared, so I came to find you." It scares me how I can lie so easily sometimes, even though I don't like to.
Bakura frowns, "Voices." He pulls me closer to him wrapping his arms around me, "Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you."
"I know." I whisper back, another lie. I know he doesn't really care about me at all; I'm just a pawn in his demented game.
He leads me back to the room we use as a bedroom and tells me to stay put. I still hear the voices, but they seem to be farther away. Bakura leaves- headed to the surface- a knife in his hand. I wait until I hear Seth yelling to "catch the murderer" before running toward the exit.
Stepping out of the dark for the first time in eight days the scorching Egyptian sun forces me to close my eyes and slowly open them again a few minutes later, only to see the Pharaoh standing beside Mit almost ten yards away, his hand resting on a metal shekel around Mit's neck. The two watching several men including Seth and Marik advance on Bakura as he laughs standing on top of an old ruin jutting out of the sand.
Spirits rush around and through the men, pushing at them and screeching in their ears, the men covering their ears or swatting at the fog-like spirits. Mit snorts and scratches at the sand, the Pharaoh and his men cover their ears, immediately Mit screams. The spirits rush away, disappearing and leaving Bakura covering his ears in pain. The Pharaoh's men rush forward, one wrenching the knife from the Thief Kind's hand, Marik and Seth pull him down from his perch holding his arms, one of the men pull out a set of shekels. Bakura kicks two of the men and twists in Marik and Seth's arms, pulling away from the men.
Suddenly Mit takes off after him. Within seconds Bakura is lying perfectly still with Mit standing over him growling like a wild dog, teeth and all, ready to bite off his head. I know Mit will kill him in a second, "Mit." I whisper and he freezes, he raises his head to look straight at me, the Pharaoh following his eyes in wonder, not having heard me whisper.
I watch Seth and Marik pull Bakura from under Mit and put shekels on him then tie him to a horse, both the Pharaoh and Bakura are staring at me, but I don't pay attention to them as Mit runs to me.
Mit knocks me down, licking my face and putting his nose in my face, the whole time I'm laughing and putting his head, "Mit! I missed you too!" Finally Mit backs off enough for me to stand, and I wrap my arms around his neck burying my face in his mane and all of a sudden I'm crying, while he pulls me closer with his head.
Okay so it took three days not two-which is the definition of a couple-but oh well. I really like how it turned out so :P
And yes I'm working on the next one, it's not over yet, we have a few more loss ends to pick up first :D
