He never loved the smell of metallic things.

Hell, he somehow could smell it whenever kunais or shuriken were used near him.

But blood… he hated that smell, especially when it was his.

It was a form of weakness, but in this case, it made him angrier in a different way.

A beaten to the brink of death Sasuke Uchiha laid face up in the water, surrounded by a pool of red in a sea of blue. He was completely paralyzed from the right arm and shoulders down; he could feel multiple broken bones and fragments, ligaments and joints torn, somehow some organs permanently damaged, and although he wasn't sure, he would believe that there was some internal bleeding. It was just a freaking task to just open his mouth to breath, that is, when he wasn't trying to keep blood and a few teeth from choking him while attempting it. His shirt's left side completely gone, his shorts damaged, and other various parts of his clothing slashed, he could feel the water being like a door for an icy cold, agonizing death.

Then he heard those footsteps. Gentle, pitter-patters on the water getting closer. He choked and wheezed as he attempted to turn his head, which was awful; he could hear something grinding and cracking when he did it. He knew he was getting closer, but taking his sweet old time doing so. His eyes were so tired...

Mentally, the Uchiha was cursing himself. That clone barrage was malicious and unlike Naruto, with the brutal and animalistic attacks they did. He had done an impressive job at dodging over a hundred clones' rampage for about a good two minutes and fifteen seconds, but it was that dumb slip-up that costed him everything that was throbbing. He had backflipped after dodging clone number thirty-seven when clone eighty had managed to grab one of his hands, forcing him to stay bent over, which was the sealing fate marker that stamped over him. He suffered the clones biting, slashing, jabbing, and any other dishonorable and drunken fighting tactics all over his body for whatever godly presence knew. Yet, during the entire time, he caught glimpses of the real one just sitting with a twisted grin…

"Hahaha! That was freaking awesome! A lot more awesome when I jumped you in your room and tied you up that one time I impersonated you while trying to get with Sakura."

Slowly, he fought the enjoyable temptation to keep them shut to open his eyes. Taking an eternity-filled painstaking inhale of oxygen, he looked up to see Naruto smiling like his dumb, stupid self. He looked so terrifying though, like a psychopath before he went on a typical murdering day. It was even confirmed with a smug smirk wiped off the cheerfulness and his form bent down.

Not even caring about the life-changing damages he caused, he grabbed the collar of the blue shirt, beginning to lift it up in a way that the body would not slip out of it. Sasuke struggled to let out a pathetic strangled grunt or gasp; he couldn't tell which it was. All he knew that he was being lifted above to Naruto's face level, dangling like a corpse would be. No, he couldn't die…! He had to-

"Well, what'd ya think, Sasuke? Have I gotten better, or did I crush your throat too much so you couldn't speak?" His friend said, raising an eyebrow in a sadistic form, sort of like that Kankuro guy would to him.

"Tch…. ggh…."

Naruto closed his eyes with a snort; even when on the brink of going to the afterlife, Sasuke was so cool as ever.

But upon opening…

"Oh, come on, man; what's with that look? You wanted me to stay and fight, ya know…"

What he was looking back at was the most intense and vicious Sharingan-less glare he had ever gotten from Sasuke. Despite the fact that he couldn't move, it would've sent even thugs who had the advantage running, but Naruto couldn't give less of a damn than he was already.

The pain was excruciating. It burned, pressured, shocked, twitched, and did any kind of throbbing sensation to him. But it all faded; he kept staring into the blue eyes and…

"...Naruto… You are wrong. When I first met you, I did care about you… I wanted to be able to know you as friends... however, it wasn't that easy..."

Naruto's right arm slowly lowered to his waist, as slowly blue chakra began to swirl in his palm.

"You were such a nuisance… shouting loudly, barking like a dog with no brains… And your skills as a ninja were amazingly dull and stupid… You were a complete loser… but…"

The Rasengan began to slowly form more and more, the water and wind swirling in a circle near them.

"Those fights with the masked ninja at the bridge… Orochimaru in the Forest of Death… and then the fight with Gaara of the Sand… you had somehow outshined me… and although you weren't the only one I had my attention on… you kept rising closer…"

The mixture of red and blue chakra somehow managed to turn the jutsu in Naruto's palm chilling purple, and he grinned at how it looked.

"Then came that encounter against Itachi… hearing him say that you were more important than me angered me, and fueled the rage that boiled from those fights against you… but when I really think about it, it isn't rage… it's jealousy."

Sasuke's eyes continued to glare back into Naruto's. The intensity between the two of them had completely filled the area to where even animals could feel danger from it. As Naruto slowly moved his Rasengan up…

"The speed and strength of your improvement… the incredible pacing of you catching up to me frustrated me… but after that fight on the hospital rooftop… I realize I'm not upset about it… it's normal to feel like that… I mean, after all… we are rivals…. but more importantly, I realize it now…"

He grunted as he watched Naruto's insanely huge grin form.

"We are friends…"

Naruto's arm slowly cocked back as the Uchiha's body twitched in response.

"At least…. we were friends…. but the fact that you had always thought that before… and I changed your mind until it was too late for me realize it…. well, that would make me so stupid, Naruto…"

The water reminded him of a time back when they were a lot younger; Sasuke sitting at the docks of one of the many bodies of water in the village, which was the same one where he proved to his father he could do fire-style jutsus. But he had noticed a certain blond-haired boy walking on the dirt road above. He saw that he had been staring at him for a long time, and both made faces at each other. Faces of disgust that the other had the audacity to look at his being. Turning away, the boy continued to walk away. But Sasuke remembered, he was smiling after he saw it.

But that moment snapped him out of it as he saw Naruto begin to thrust the death-bringing filled Rasengan at his chest. Sasuke widened his eyes and poured the rest of his energy to just move. But when it happened-

"I don't know why…. especially after all the stupid shit you pulled and I had the unfortunate time to experience it… but realizing it… I don't want my brother or whatever force to ruin you."

The entire valley roared with a giant explosion as a Herculean amount of water splashed back down thanks to gravity, after the impact had shoved it into great heights. The trees shook as the air blew through them. Despite the intense chaos, all soon regained its peaceful stature and the wind slowly began to weaken.

He was dripping red. It was hanging out of him. He was gasping and was in utter disbelief and awe. All that he knew was what he saw and nothing more.

"Well, now… that's one hell of a "flesh wound"... wouldn't you say… Sasuke?" the vile and predator feeling just seemed to metaphorically droll out of Naruto's mouth.

Instead of sending Sasuke flying backwards, Naruto had shoved the Rasengan into and through his body. His liver, one of his lungs, and part of either the small or large intestines was literally dripping down his clothes and into the water. The Uchiha shivered while he saw his heart and part of his muscles dangling out in view. He literally couldn't breathe; both physically and in shock.

Naruto just….. he killed him….

The murderer who was once his teammate slowly reached with his hand, "dusting" his shirt off for him, and laughed, "There we go; you got a bit of blood on you, buddy."

"Na… aa... ru…t…"

The face of the one called drained of emotion and looked up at him; despite having him literally have one foot walking through the door of death, that Sharingan-glaring eyes… still staring like he had a chance…

Sighing, he stated, "...You know, I didn't want to fight you; it's your fault this place is your grave, Sasuke. At least now, I can sever any intel or chance of anyone from the Leaf finding me. But as a former shinobi of Konoha, I'll kill you out of mercy."

With that, he gently took a hold of Sasuke's heart, slowly putting more pressure as he intended to crush it. He smiled his signature smile and closed his eyes, nodding.

"I finally beat you, Sasuke; Believe it."

SLAP.

"!"

Flinging his eyes open, he looked to see Sasuke's right arm, which was blood-stained, suddenly clenching the wrist that kept him up tightly. He flinched at how painful it was, getting stronger. Gasping, he looked up at his victim's face. The shadows and bangs of his hair blocked his eyes, but a smirk appeared on his face. Naruto's eyes widened with shock. How? He blew out his entire internal organs, and most of his chakra network, not to mention his nervous system and anything else that would've allowed him to move. How the hell did he…?

"Naruto."

The boy flinched in surprise; his voice sounded as if this didn't hurt. Like none of this had happened. How in the f-

Slowly, Sasuke looked up with his usual confident smirking face.

"You loser…"

Suddenly, Sasuke's entire body, including the organs that fell out into the water, started to glow blue as he began to make crackling noises. It didn't even take the smartest ninja in the world to realize what was going on. But just as Naruto did, it was too late. Eyes widened as he was standing in a huge body of water near a waterfall as what had appeared to be his soon-to-be-deceased friend began to turn into lightning…

"DAMN IT, NO!"

The lightning consumed Naruto; it didn't do permanent damage, but it surrounded him, electrocuting his entire body. And thanks to the fact he was standing on water…

"AAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

It always is a son of a gun when you're in pain, five seconds can feel like hours. But after those intense seconds, he could feel the pain lighten up. He had no strength to stand, but Naruto managed to keep his chakra under control so he could rest on his hands and knees. Panting as he would twist and bend in ways that stung badly, he growled as he tried to move, but to no avail. He lifted his head and began to search the area for any sign of the real Sasuke Uchiha, that is until he realized-

Wait… when did the sky become red? Why are the cliffs distorted? Why is his own hands looking so pale and bloody? He frantically looked around and saw that his entire world had been changed into some horror show. Was this area this way the entire time he tried to kill Sasuke? Was he so focused he didn't realize it? ! Wait, this is a-!

Naruto Uzumaki, despite being an uprising genin, was never good at genjutsu. He always hated the fact that he sucked at that particular type of battle. And he knew he'd never really improve, but at least, despite his ability to catch on was kinda sucky, he was able to figure it out.

"I don't believe it; how the hell did you catch me under a genjutsu while my clones kicked the heck out of you!?" Naruto's mind roared in anger, yet could only grunt in real voice.

Smashing one fist into the water, and using the appropriate hand-sign with the other, Naruto growled through his teeth while he focused his chakra into one point and managed to hear a glass-breaking sound. He watched as the sky began to crack, and slowly and surely, turned back into the bright blue day he had been in. Indeed, he had broken the genjutsu, and the pain from the shock he had never existed. Holy hell, that ticked him off. He stood up instantly and just glared over his shoulder from behind him, to see someone standing with their arms folded.

"Sasuke…. you're really starting to tick me off…." Naruto growled, vehemently seething as the Nine-Tailed features came back.

"Hey, Naruto," Sasuke said, glaring back with the Sharingan, "I was wondering how long it was going to take you to break free from my genjutsu… you loser."
