DIMITRI
Rose was pointing a gun at me. First she looked a little scared but ready to attack and then she looked angry. In the shop she said she doesn't want to see me again. And I didn't obey. But I had to come. I had to tell them information, I got from the Court.
I won't be coming there anymore. I'll send others next time. I don't want to tease her with these things and make her feel bad. It's not good for her or for the baby.
"Merry Christmas!" Paul ran to me. It was five in the morning and the kids couldn't wait for presents. Zoya was ripping down the paper from her present with a big smile on her beautiful face.
"Merry Christmas, kid-o."
"Zoya, don't eat the paper!" Mom came down the stairs. "You should better go dress yourselves, we're going to church later."
The church was full as always. I missed this church. Before, I used to come here almost every week. All the familiar faces I saw, now I can't remember them. I see some people still looking at me like I'm a devil inside of a church, but I got used of it already.
We still don't have any clue of Robert. It makes me angry. I want to catch him and kill him. Nobody can threaten Rose... It's interesting how I still can't move on.
"Where were you this morning?" Victoria whispered.
"At Marks."
"Seriously? She cheated on you and you still act like you're her golden retriever!" she was whispering to me.
"I had to tell them about the letter I got. But it's non of your business anyway."
"You are my brother. You didn't have to go. You could send anyone else. I could go..."
"Yes, sure."
"Yes. Oh, she would hear it from me, that little-"
"Watch it!" I say louder this time. She flinched and then looked at me.
"We are in church! Can you two not be rude?" Mother said.
"She ruined my life... And yours now too. She is not a saint as everyone says."
"Nobody is a saint. And what did she do to ruin your life, please tell me."
"Kids! Stop it right this instant, or get out and fight as much as you want! Unbelievable..." mother shaked her head. Victoria walked out of the church. I would go after her but I was too angry right now.
When the bells rang and we all got out of the church, I was starting to think of the place Victoria could be. But how could I know? I don't know her that well.
"Dimka?" I turn around and see a familiar face. I think that it's the one. Many years passed from the day I saw her last time.
"Kaya!" we hug. She was my classmate and a good friend. The last time we saw each other was at the time when I was going to my first job as a guardian.
"Look at you! Still keeping your hair long?" we laugh. "It fits you."
"I almost didn't recognize you. It's great to see you." I say. She was the only woman in her family that choose to be a guardian. And it was because of moroi Alexander Zeklos. She saw a God in him ever since we saw him on some birthday.
She didn't change a lot, she just grew up. Her hair is shorter now and she looks a little more serious but the shine in her dark brown eyes is still the same.
I remember when she came to me crying because her neighbour took her doll. But she didn't came to me crying because she wanted to get her doll back. She came because her hand hurt from all that fighting for the doll. She was a badass from the moment she first opened her eyes. She is a well respected guardian one of the rare female guardians that have so many molnijas on her back. And Rose wasn't the only one who got a molnija mark before the promise one. Kaya got one when she was 15.
Her family was on a picnic in the woods and strigoi came to feed. Her mother and two aunts said that she needs to hide her brother and cousins on a safe place. She got a silver stake and ran with other children deep into woods. They hid themselves under a tree that had it's leaves all to the ground. But there weren't only three strigoi there. One more was behind them and attacked. Kaya managed to kill that strigoi with only one silver stake. She was lucky.
"It's great to see you too. I heard you were a guardian of Vasilisa Dragomir."
"I used to be. Before she became a queen. I have Christian Ozera now. But right now, I'm working here in Russia."
"That's great. I'm happy for you."
"And how are you doing?"
"I'm still guarding the same man," she turned and looked at him "and still trying not to be sad because we are not known as husband and wife." she said. She was dreaming of a family and a husband since we were kids.
"You can get married if you want." I said. Mark and Oksana are married why not her.
"You know that dhampir and moroi marriage is not on a good voice... And his family wants to stay respected and famous by only good things..." she said. The other guardian staying by Alexander told her that they need to leave.
"I have to go now... How long are you staying here?" she said when we hugged goodbye.
"Until my work here is over. I think that I'm going to be here for a while. You can stop by my house sometime." I smile. She nodded and left.
When we came home Victoria didn't leave her room. But when dinner was ready she had to come. We were all sitting in silence, not saying much.
"Alright. This is ridiculous. Our brother is here, alive and you just keep ruining things." Karolina said when Yeva and the kids left the table.
"Oh, now I'm the bad guy? Do you all even remember why he came to Russia in the first place? Not because he wanted to tell us that he's safe, but because he still cares for that bitch that che-"
"Shhhhh! First of all watch your mouth and second of all Yeva is in the living room." Karolina said.
"Why are we keeping that a secret from her? She has the right to know." Victoria said it more quietly now.
"Because mother is not in good health. It could only make it worse." mom said.
"Oh, come on! She didn't like her in the first place."
"We are going to give an end to this right now." mom looked at Victoria angrily, "What is happening between them is non of our business."
"No, it actually is my business. She ruined my life."
"With what?" I ask. I really wanted to know that.
"I have found a perfect guy for myself but not long after I introduced them with each other she scared him away from me. I wanted to marry him. Rolan and I were perfect with each other." I see Sonja flinch.
"What?" Sonja asked.
"I know! How could she?!"
"No. Who?" Sonja asked again.
"Rolan. Rolan Kislyak."
"Oh my God." Sonja put hands on her mouth. This is getting weirder and weirder
"Yes. And he loved me. He bought me jewelery, he took me to theatre-"
"Don't you realize? She saved your life!" And now everyone is staring at Sonja. "That bastard is a player, Victoria... You should be thankful that you didn't end like one of his victims."
"How do you know that?" Victoria asked not really believing it.
"Because... because I was one of his victims."
"What did he do to you." I was getting furious.
"He fed on me with me not allowing it. And..." she hesitated. "Sofia is his daughter."
I don't know him, but I will find him. And I'm going to beat the life out of him.
