ROSE
"Hey Rose?" Oksana knocks on my door and comes in.
"Yeah?" I say still sleepy. I looked on the clock and saw that it was 5 a.m.
"Mark and I have to go to town. Mark's relative got hurt. He got a concussion and we are going there so I'll heal him."
"Are you even able to do any other magic than trying to get into Robert's mind?" I ask.
"I just woke up with more energy." she said. "The thing is... because Ivan and Yulian are going to sleep now, we needed someone else to come and guard the house." she said.
I already knew what was she pointing at... "Dimitri's coming." I said. "Look. Don't worry Oksana. Go. And I'll try to survive the day as the only woman in the house." I smiled.
"We'll be back around six." she said. After she said goodbye and left the room, I went back to sleep.
When I opened my eyes again, I saw the light outside. I went downstairs, took a glass of milk and checked the boys in the living room. Yulian looked like he was freezing and his blanket was on the floor. I picked it up and covered Yulian. I heard the backyard door opening and when I turned around, I remembered about the talk Oksana and I had this morning.
Dimitri came in.
"Good morning." he said.
"Morning." I said back. Dimitri had a cup in his hands. It was probably coffee in it.
"As Oksana told you... I'll be here for the day." he said. "Sorry I couldn't obey your wish."
"It's okay." I reply. I guess Victoria didn't tell him about the genetics I have told her... She didn't believe me. Will he?
When to tell him? How to tell him?
He walks to the kitchen, leaves the cup in the basin and walks back out. I guess I won't tell him now.
I was looking at Dimitri. He was standing a few steps away from the window, showing the back to me. He wasn't wearing his duster today. He had a black leather jacket on. It's weird seeing him without his duster. He doesn't look like himself.
"BOO!" Yulian yelled and shook me to scare me. I screamed. Loudly. I wasn't expecting this. Ivan jumped grabbing the stake under his pillow. I turned around punched him in the shoulder and took a grip on the sofa. I couldn't breathe. My heart was pumping fast.
Dimitri ran in almost breaking the door.
"What is wrong?" he asked.
"Dude, she's pregnant!" Ivan yelled on Yulian.
"I didn't know she's going to freak out like that. Sorry." Yulian said.
"It's… okay. It's on." I said meaning a prank battle.
Dimitri shook his head and went back out. Oh, look how grown up he is acting again.
It's lunch time and we are about to sit at the table to eat. Dimitri takes his food and goes to eat outside. But I stop him.
"Could you just go and seat like a normal person at the table?" I ask behind him. He just stood there, for a while, not knowing what to do. At last he turns around and sits with us at the table.
We were eating in silence. Only the scrappy sound of cutlery on plates was heard. And I was only thinking about how hot Dimitri looks and how to tell him the child is his.
He was sitting at my right side. His hair was down and covering his eyes; that's why I was free to look at him. I remembered our lunches together where we would hold our hand every now and then. We used to talk about his day and then my day, Lissa, Christian, our past, how much we love each other... I missed those conversations. And oh, how much did I want to take a hold of his free hand right now. I wonder what would he do if I actually took his hand... He looks up and I look back at my plate.
Poor Ivan and Yulian have to stay awake all day. They are young, and dedicated to their work. We really became good friends, all this time we have spent together.
"When are Mark and Oksana coming back?" Yulian asked.
"Around six." both me and Dimitri said at in the same time. That was awkward.
I looked at the clock hanging on the wall. It's three o'clock. Three more hours and this torture of awkwardness will be over. Or not. I just remembered I have to tell Dimitri the truth. But how to tell him? How, when I'm even afraid to look at him in the eyes. He must have been feeling awful thinking that I cheated on him... Or did he already forget about me?
Shit, did I just felt guilty?
What the... I'm not the guilty one! Great. They reached their goal. But that was the first and the last time.
We finished with lunch.
"Rose, can we take a nap?" Yulian said all sleepy.
"What?" Dimitri asked with an 'are you serious' look.
"Go. Of course. Rest." I said standing up. Ivan didn't want to do go at first, but then he left too.
While putting the dishes in the basin Dimitri decided to help me. We were doing a thing together. Just the two of us... no... three of us made me think how great it would be to live like that.
I see him shaking his head.
"What's wrong, now?" I ask him. First he was just looking at me.
"I can't believe they hired those two to protect you. Going on a nap? What is this a game for them?"
"Hey! Don't talk about them like that. They're great people. Even though they only have each other, they choose to risk their life for me."
"That nap can put your life in danger. Irresponsible..."
"Oh, stop saying that like you care." I said putting a plate roughly in the basin.
"I do care. Unlike others." he said lifting his hand toward me.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I ask him.
"You say that I don't care. But did you care even a little when this happened?" he said and showed at my stomach. "Did you have me in mind while that was happening?"
I'm not going to let anyone talk to me like that. Not him!
"You..." I raise my hand wanting to slap the life out of him. But he got my arm. "You're going to take those words back!" Dimitri had a tear running down his face.
Everything in the room starts to move and I start losing my balance.
"You jerk... it's yours." and then my legs gave up. Dimitri caught me, thank God I didn't fall stomach first.
"No! Roza? Please open your eyes. Come on. I'm sorry. I'm so, so sorry." was the last that I heard.
I woke up in a light room. It's a hospital room.
"Hey, you woke up." Yulian smiled. It was a little hard to look with that light burning my eyes, but I could see the door was open. I see Ivan and Dimitri outside talking to a doctor.
"Hi." I smiled back.
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
"Tired." I say. "What happened?"
"You had a fight with Mr. allgrownupandserious. That jerk got you upset and you fainted."
"How is my b-"
"Dear, how are you?" Oksana bursted into the room. A doctor that talked with Ivan and Dimitri came in after her.
"Can we have some privacy?" the doctor said.
"These are my aunt and my cousin, they can stay." I lied. I was terrified of staying alone with the doctor and hearing the diagnosis.
"Alright then," the doctor was trying to speak English, "you and your baby are healthy and fine." I could breathe again.
"But there is a bigger risk of you losing it. That's why you have to stay calm, do not lift anything heavy or go on long walks." he said.
I didn't know what to say.
When the doctor leaves I can see Mark, Ivan and Dimitri arguing about something.
"How could all of you be so stupid! Bringing her here is danger!" Mark said. They were trying to be quiet, but Mark looked pissed.
"What were we supposed to do? I didn't know how to help her at home!" Dimitri said back.
"You could control yourself and none of this would even happened!" Mark said. Dimitri just looks at him but he doesn't say anything. "You are blind Dimitri... You became so blind that you don't even realize how much pain you cause."
Dimitri walks away giving me a last glance.
