Chapter 13: Secrets Of The Past Part 3

Leina ran through the darkness as fast as she could, her clothes torn to ribbons, her feet bleeding from the rough terrain, and hot tears staining her cheeks. The world looked blurry around her as she duck and dodged through the pitch-black maze she was caught in. Suddenly, a dagger was thrown at her head, only cutting her slightly on the left side of her cheek. She quickly turned down another dark pathway to get her pursuer off her trail but they were too quick. Just as she was about to crawl through a small opening through one of the bushes in the maze she was grabbed roughly by her ankle and dragged out.

The mysterious person held her up in the air by her neck as she clawed at their hands to release their hold on her.

"Such a pretty little princess you are, it's too bad that I have to rid the world of your presence. I wouldn't have minded keeping you as a piece of entertainment." The person said as they grinned at her.

"Let...me...go." Leina said through gritted teeth. She tried to give the person the best glare she could, but a 6-year-old girl would never intimidate such a powerful person.

"How cute, do you really think I'll let you get out of my sight again? I got in enough trouble just because I was trying to be nice to you." The person said as they placed her back against a nearby wall and held up another dagger.

She started to struggle as soon as her eyes say the gleam of its metal. There was no way that she was about to die here. She had made a promise to them that is she wouldn't be caught, that she'd live on. How did she manage to get herself caught up in a situation like this? Why did it have to be her, why did it have to be them? She closed her eyes closed tightly as the dagger was swung straight for her, but she felt nothing.

She slowly understood why as she was dropped to the ground and she saw someone standing in front of her. Long dark red hair caught her attention as a sign of who it was in front of her. That person turned around and smiled sweetly at her.

"What are you doing dear? Run away; live on like we told you to." Her mother said as a single tear rolled down her face.

"But I..." Leina said hesitantly until she was interrupted by her pursuer.

"You damned witch, well at least we won't have to worry about you getting in the way anymore." The person said as they quickly went into their coat pocket to retrieve another dagger.

"Hurry...Go." Her mother said as she slowly fell to the ground in front of her.

Leina quickly shot a ball of fire at the mysterious person and made them collide into the wall nearby. She quickly got to her feet and ran as fast as she could to get to the teleportation device that was near the port on their island. Once she was on the mat, she was teleported to Fiore. As she walked down the empty streets the thought of everything that had happened made her began to cry. Soon she was at the port in Fiore, sitting at one of the docks as the morning sun raised high in the sky. She sighed in content as she placed her scarred feet in the water.

"Are you okay?" Someone asked from behind her.

She quickly looked back to see a little girl with her dark blue hair tied up in a high ponytail. She had on a green dress with white sandals.

"Who are you?" Leina asked with a glare as she wiped her face with her hands.

"My name's Peony. Are you lost? It's too early for you to be alone in a place like this." Peony said with a slightly frown on her face as she sat next to Leina.

"I could say the same thing to you." Leina said flatly.

"Oh my god, your feet! They're bleeding! You need to come with me right away. My daddy can fix you right up." Peony said as she grabbed Leina's hand and practically dragged her to her house, which was not too far from where they were.

"Daddy, she's hurt!" Peony yelled loudly as she came into the house and sat Leina in one of the chairs in the dining room. Wilson quickly came out of the back room with a first aid kit in hand.

"Hello there sweetheart, do you mind lifting up your feet for me?" Wilson asked with a big smile.

"I don't need your help and I never asked for you to help me. I'm sorry to have wasted your time but I have to go." Leina said as she got out of the chair and walked to the door.

"Well that still doesn't explain why you were alone at the docks at 6:30 in the morning." Peony said with a scowl.

"I don't have anywhere to go; I don't have a place to call home anymore. I'm not a human either, so you should stay away from me if you know what's good for you." Leina said in irritation.

"Then what are you then?" Peony asked as she placed her hands on her hips.

"A demon. If you don't believe me, then look at my feet now." Leina said as she held her foot up for both of them to see.

"Wow! It healed on its own!" Peony said in astonishment as she took a closer look at Leina's feet making her fall on her butt.

"If you don't have anywhere you can go you can stay here with me and my daughter. We'll treat you just like treat each other, there's no reason for you to be alone. What do you say?" Wilson asked.

"Please say you'll stay." Peony said with puppy dog eyes.

"You don't mind me being here? Do you know what happens to people that try to help me?! They're killed or they die! I won't let anyone else get hurt because of me." Leina yelled as she felt tears fall down her face.

"Then we'll just have to fight back. Mean people will never leave you alone if you keep running away from them. Just because of that reason you don't have an option anymore, you're staying and that's final." Peony said as she folded her arms over her chest. Leina gave Wilson a questioning look.

"She's the queen of the house so whatever she says goes. Welcome to the family." Wilson said with a big smile.

"Fine, my name is Leina by the way." Leina said shyly.

"Nice to meet you little sis." Peony said with a smile as she gave her a tight hug.
