Chapter 16: Pain
Leina woke up abruptly as she sat up in Laxus' bed trying to catch her breath. How many times had she had that same dream and woke up only to see that she was no longer that same person? She would no longer hurt anyone else, she made sure of that with all the effort she put forth to prevent it. Although, it still haunts her that she may wake up with the ones dear to her knocking on deaths door.
"That was quite a scare you just had. How bad was it?" Laxus asked as he looked up at her from where he laid on the bed. Leina jumped as she didn't notice that he was still in the room.
"Are you trying to give me a heart attack?" Leina asked as she scowled down at him.
"No, I waited until I felt you weren't gonna get spooked. I guessed wrong." Laxus said flatly as he sat up beside her and wiped the sweat that had formed on her forehead. "Come on, I'll run you a bath. It always used to help me whenever I had dreams like that." Laxus said as he rose up from the bed and walked to his bathroom.
"I'm not a child, you know? I can deal with own nightmares." Leina said with a slight frown.
"That wasn't a nightmare that was a night terror. You were shaking like a leaf until I pulled you closer. Not to mention, you started to burn up and flail around like you were fighting something. Whatever you were dreaming about it wasn't pretty." Laxus said as he gave her a serious look.
Leina looked at him astonished as she didn't realize that she had done that much while she was sleep. "I guess there are still some things that never change." Leina said as she looked down at her hands with a sad smile on her face.
"Some habits take longer to get rid of then others. Although, I never expected you to have any habits like that. Then again, many people said the same about me a long time ago. Bath's ready, hurry up and get in before it gets cold." Laxus said as he placed a towel and wash cloth on her lap.
"Such wise words from a muscle head, should I be scared?" Leina asked with a small smile as she got out of the bed and walked to the bathroom before Laxus could make a comeback.
"Yeah, you better run." Laxus said with a smirk as he walked to the kitchen.
~A Few Hours Later~
"Where in the world have you been?!" Levy asked as soon as Leina walked into her room.
"I went to walk around a bit at the beach, I needed to clear my head." Leina said with sigh.
"Did something happen between you and Laxus?" Levy asked curiously.
"No, nothing happened between me and Laxus." Leina said with a sigh.
"You had another dream, didn't you?" Levy asked with a frown.
"Yeah, I did. I'm fine now so you don't have to worry. So, what did you have planned for today?" Leina asked with a forced smile.
"To interrogate you on what happened on your trip since you dodged us the first time." Levy said with a grin. Leina frowned and quickly opened the door to leave.
Unfortunately, Lucy, Erza, Juvia, and Flare were all outside of the door, ready to stop her. "Dammit." Leina said as she rolled her eyes and fell face first onto Levy's bed.
"Did anything interesting happen?" Lucy asked with a giddy grin.
"No, nothing interesting happened." Leina said flatly.
"Did Laxus see?" Levy asked as the room grew silent from the concerned look on her face.
"Did Laxus see what? Did something bad happen?" Erza asked with the same look of concern as the others.
"Everything is fine. I just had what Laxus called, a night terror." Leina said as she jumped towards Erza, Lucy, Levy, Juvia, and Flare, which made them all jump.
"I'm glad that you can laugh about things like that now." Levy said with a small smile.
"How long have you been having them?" Lucy asked.
"Ever since I was 6 or 7 years old." Leina said.
"Have you had any help with getting rid of them?" Flare asked shyly.
"Yep, but the doctors told me that I have to be the one to get rid of them. They aren't something that can easily be treated with medication." Leina said as she laid back on Levy's bed.
"That's why I feel that you need to go back and let them continue to try new ways to help you." Levy mumbled.
"Levy, they didn't help me at all. They asked me so many useless questions that it made my head hurt just trying to answer them. The only reason why I stopped going was because they made me feel like I was going crazy." Leina said with a deep frown.
"I know, and I wish they wouldn't have done that." Levy said with a sigh.
"Did something happen to make you have these types of dreams? Like a tragic event or something?" Juvia asked.
"You could say that, then again there were many things that were going on even before I was born into that world. I don't know how it all started, but I do know that I wasn't the only one who was hurt in the process of it all happening. Although, those things don't matter anymore because they'll never happen again, especially not here." Leina said with a smile.
"Well enough with all of these painful memories, let's have some fun. Who's up for some shopping?" Lucy asked as she smiled brightly.
"Count me in." Leina said as she ran to the door. Levy and the others laughed at her as they all followed her lead.
