ROSE
The clock is ticking and we have to make sure all of us girls are ready for the long walk.
"Lissa, don't forget to put you grandmother's bracelet on!" and she already walked out her wardrobe, with two designers, made my eyes hurt because sun was shining on her wedding dress.
Even though that sunlight wouldn't tease my eyes, they would become watery anyway seeing her like that. Now I know how she felt when she saw me on my day.
"You're so beautiful." I say.
"Thank you Rose!" and she runs to me. We hug and I can feel her shaking.
Her dress is a ball gown, with beautiful lacing in the front and queen anne top, with lacing on her shoulders. Green emerald cloak was dragging behind her. Her green emerald crown was holding her veil streaching to her elbows wavy on the edge (it wasn't covering her face).
Something old, is that bracelet I reminded her before. Her mother was wearing it, her grandmother and so on… It's some kind Dragomir's tradicion. It's special because there's one royal blue crystal on it, that's why something blue was also filled in.
Something new, is of course her dress and she borrowed earrings and a necklace (also emerald) from Jill.
Jill, Mia and Sonya run to us to comment her dress. We are the bridesmaids. All of us are wearing simple long emerald dresses. I was forced though. Being so comfortable in my uniform made me feel weird putting a dress on.
Somebody knocks on the door.
"I'll open!" I say and run. I open it carefully, watching if maybe Christian would be trying to get in. But the one who came were my handsome guardians. Well one is a future guardian.
"Well, don't you both look dashing! Come here my dear!" I streach my hands and take Mark Mason. He likes to be carried by me because I spent the most time with him. I kiss Dimitri and all three of us walk in. Dimitri is going to escort Lissa to the altar.
"Where is my little princ." Lissa gets all happy when she sees Mark Mason.
"You look amazing, Lissa." he said and then looks to all the women in the room "You all are." All of them thanked and then he said, "Ready?"
"No. I think I'm going to throw up." Lissa says.
"You will do great up there." I try to encourage her. "It's your day today. And be happy. I'm so proud on you." and we hug again, squashing Mark in between.
Mom knocks the door and tells us that it's time. She takes Mark Mason and walks out with flower girls following.
Right before us bridesmaids were about to walk down through the chapel I turn around to look at the persons I love the most in my life. Mark Mason was in moms arms streching his hands towards me wanting me to carry him (I really need to make him stop doing that… he's three already), Dimitri's head was turned towards Lissa and she was nervously looking towards me still listening to Dimitri. I could see her boquette shaking in her hands. We smile to eachother and it's time for us to walk.
When I entered the chapel I look at the high wall and I see Dragomir flags hanging down, people standing on the balconies looking at us, sunshine brightening through windows… Then my look goes towards and I become nervous. The room was full with people standing, some of them moving on the melody of the march. I didn't marry in a chapel and not that many people were invited and that's the reason that probably made me feel like my wedding all over again. And the memory came up.
"We couldn't go looking for a perfect dress, or the guest list, the flowers, or… Why are you guys in such hurry?" Lissa didn't stop talking. "Weddings should be every womans dream day…"
"Lissa… I already have everything I need for this to be my perfect day…" I tried to calm her down.
I came back from the hospital with baby Mark. We were planning to get married next morning, because both Dimitri and I have people, that are very special for us, right there.
"You guys will be leaving now..." Lissa said to Dimitri, Christian and Adrian that brought me at Oksana's.
"But Mark..." Dimitri couldn't look away from his son.
"The baby is going to be just fine here, with us." Lissa and Sydney pushed guys out the door. "You know that the bride and the groom can't be together the day before wedding. Have a bachelor party, or something..." she said.
"Oh, I can come as a special guest." Adrian said, being pushed by Sydney. "You know like that cop prank..."
"No offence, but I don't think you can show much." Sydney smiled.
"Really? You think that? Well, I think I need to change your way if thinking, miss."
"Mhm, see you tomorrow, mister Magic Mike..." and the door closed. I couldn't even say goodbye to my future husband. But I wasn't that sad, because I knew, that I will be walking towards him in a white dress, next time I see him.
"Are those two..." Lissa started confusingly, looking from the door to the way where Sydney disapeard.
"Yep. They are flirting." I say all confident. Then we gave that look at each other like we always did and both of us smiled widely.
We didn't stay up long, because Mark had to sleep, I was tired and it wasn't long after funerals.
Sydney told me that she won't be able to be on the wedding, that's why she congratulated me already and then left.
"Rosemarie, wake up!" I heard mom's voice in my sleep.
"What's the time?" I asked when I partly opened my eyes.
"Time to get ready." she said.
When I saw the sunlight I remembered that baby's have to get a fed every three hours. I quickly stood up cursing but mom stopped me, "Don't worry, I fed him. He woke up twice."
"Come to see the dress!" Lissa appeared on the door with Mark in her hands.
I walked down the hall to Oksana's room, with my hair all messed up looking for others.
"They're all preparing the outside." mom said.
Lissa gave me Mark and told me to close my eyes.
"Open your eyes" mom and Lissa said both in one voice. I obeyed them.
"I wish we would both go to pick one, but as there wasn't any time I tried to find something in your style."
"God, it's perfect." it's all I could say.
I'm looking at myself in the mirror all in white, a color I never wore, ever in my life. Even then, when I was little I wore darker colors.
The dress had a simple A-line silhouette longer in the back (but not too long), with black lacing on the edge, and the top was smoothly on the V-neck, crossing in the back. I had a corset tied with black ribbon and also a bow that was on the end of corset.
Lissa, Jill and Victoria made me a messy braid that was elegantly hanging down my left shoulder, showing my marks.
I was wearing blue necklace mom gave me, Lissa lend me a silver crown that fit perfectly to the Yeva's old silver bracelet Victoria brought me.
"Wow. Now I can feel how much time passed and how less time I spent with you." Abe walked in.
I turned around and smiled.
"You look beautiful." he came to me and kissed my forehead.
"Thank you."
"I'm so proud of you."
"Stop with the kindness old man, you'll make me cry."
"O.K." he laughed and kissed my hands. "It's time."
"Already?"
"Yes. Or did you change your mind?"
"No… Let's do this thing."
Paul was wearing a suit with a red tie and Zoya was wearing a red dress because of the "rose" theme. But I liked it, I loved red. It's my second favorite color.
I could see Theo sitting by the piano waiting for us to tell him when to start the wedding march.
All five of them looked at me, "Ready?"
My heart started to beat fast, my breathing heavied and I nod.
The music starts, kids walk throwing white and red petals and Abe quickly drags me, reminding me that it's time to go.
The path in Oksana's garden was round and we had to walk to the start of the stairs where Dimitri was standing with Christian and Olena and the one who was going to marry us; Lissa. As she is the Queen, she has the licence to marry couples.
We walk down the stone path, all the invited are standing on the sides of it. I see my mom with Mark in her hands, Karolina, Victoria with Nikolai and Sonya taking pictures, Kaya and Alexander Zeklos, Yulian and Oksana, Alberta came with Eddie and Jill, Mia and Adrian.
And there's Dimitri, in a suit, with a tie, not a duster a tie! I know… he is dressed the same now on Lissa's wedding but it was the first time I saw him that formal... And all I can say is that he looks smokin' hot in those clothes! He looked from his shoes to me and smiled nervously with his hand in the beck. Then he straightened.
I couldn't resist my smile so couldn't he. For almost the whole walk we were staring at eachother smiling widely.
All that we were been through, showed in my mind like a movie tape. All the good and the bad. And I'm glad that we're here today. I don't know what would I do without him if we wouldn't get back together. A single mom running away from all the danger from her son. I would become a coward. I don't even want to think about it anymore.
I love him and we are going to spend our lives together protecting our moroi, protecting eachother and our son.
The sound of wind playing with leaves disturbed my thinking and then I realized that I'm only a few more steps to the "altar". It was actually a flower arch with all sorts and colors of flowers.
Abe shaked hands with Dimitri, kissed my cheeks, hugged me and Dimitri took my hand.
"You look beautiful."
"Thank you." But it sounded funny, considering that I heard it multiple times.
Lissa never learned how to actually marry a couple that's why she was talking about love, Dimitri and me, what all we have been through... It actually sounded like funny, romantic funeral speech.
"Dimitri Belikov, do you take Rosemarie Hathaway for your lawful wedded wife? Will you love, honour, comfort, and cherish her from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto her for as long as you both shall live?
"I do." he put the ring on my finger.
"Rosemarie Hathaway, do you take Dimitri Belikov for your lawful wedded husband? Will you love, honour, comfort, and cherish him from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto his for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do." and I do the same.
"And now I pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride, comrade."
And we kissed laughing.
We all ate at a long table and I liked that. I showed that we are close to eachother and that we are all a big family.
Theo was still feeling a little embarrased but we talked about it and he was pleased to sing at my wedding.
"You know that if you'll need anything..." dad and I talked while dancing on a slow song.
"I know, I know... I ask you for it."
"Good girl." and we hug.
"May I?" Adrian came to us. Abe nodded and Adrian took the dance.
"Hi." he said.
"Hi." I smiled. "What about you and Sydney?"
"What? I have no idea what are you talking about." he said looking away and I knew he was lying to me. He totally feels something for her.
"Thank you for coming."
"Thank you for inviting me." he looked at me then "I wish you all the happiness in the world, little dhampir." and I could feel tears in my eyes. For so long we didn't communicate, and I hurt him by returning to Dimitri and still being in a relationship with Adrian. And I'm so sorry for it. He could hate me forever for this, but he doesn't he wishes me luck.
"Thank you, Adrian." And I hug him.
The first and last dance I took was with Dimitri.
"How do you feel Mrs Belikova?"
"A little tired, but I can wait till the end."
"Are you happy?"
"I am so, so happy."
"I love you, Roza."
"I love you, Dimitri."
"I do."
And the whole chapel is in clapping, cheering, while Christian and Lissa kiss.
"Long live the Queen!" people are cheering while they are walking down towards the entrance. Even outside people gathered to cheer but guardians are still careful for any danger to happen.
"Oh, Rose I'm so happy!" Lissa says. We are standing watching everyone having fun on the dancing area.
"Me too."
"Who would guess that our lives will be like this?" she hugs me with one hand.
"I know right! Who would know that we will be both married in nearly 20, you Queen, I a mom, and both freaking famous."
"We were famous before." she smiles.
"Yeah... true about that." we share a high-five.
"No, Mark don't eat that!" I hear Dimitri. He just took Mark and tries to get something out of his mouth. "Roza, I think he ate pieces of handkerchief."
"Oh, no worries about that... right little hero?" Lissa talks in baby voice. "Come with me and lets leave your mommy and daddy here to talk a bit."
"I can't believe how tired I get just trying to provide him to eat things."
"Welcome to parenthood." I smile.
"I can't wait for him to realize what is good to eat and what is not..."
In that moment I laugh.
"What?" he asks.
"It's going to last longer than that, comrade." Than I tap his shoulder "because then, we will be careful on someone else."
"What are you talking about?"
"I'm pregnant."
"Are you... Is this for real?"
"Um... of course." then I see his look "Don't you dare to look at me like that! It's not that it's just me that got me pregnant! It's your fault as much as it's mine."
"No... I'm happy!" And he hugs me. I know that there was some truth in that look of his. I had the same look when I saw the results... But we are still happy for this child even though it's exhausting. It's a part of life.
"WHAT?!" Lissa and Christian appeared behind us, "You are pregnant, again?"
"Yes, I am."
"And again, stepping out of the job as my guardian... but never minds because we will be spending much time together now when both of us are pregnant."
"What?" I said surprisingly.
"YESS!"
"Oh my God, congratulations!" I yell and hug Christian first because he was closer.
"Same to you." they both say in the same voice.
And that's how our journeys continue. In a job as parents and rulers.
