Epilogue

100 years later, Feudal Japan 1676

One hundred years had passed since the conflict with Moniku and the losses of Hekuta, Akai and Kimiko. The lands have been rather peaceful, with a few up rises appearing here and there. Also the age of demons is starting to dwindle as monks, priests and priestesses alike have found more powerful ways to exorcise and purify demons. Resulting from this the demons rallied together and fought back under the leadership of Midoriko Tori.

She inspired them as she was one of the first demons to immediately strike back against the holy wielding monks. Which also meant, Midoriko was the first to start a new war. Though small, compared to the battles they've participated in previously, innocent lives were being lost and that prompted the Tori and Neko to step up. Leading the Neko was Reo having received the title of Clan Leader a few days after Moniku's defeat. Chita had become his chief advisor, and together with Chisana-ichi who ten years after the defeat of Moniku had become leader of the Tori Clan.

The two leaders had married and united their clans, bringing much joy not only to the clans, but their parents as well. Their joy could only grow once they heard that Chisana-ichi and Reo were expecting another child, the fifth they would have so far. They wondered if they would have another boy or another girl, seeing as they have two sons and daughters. One son was completely a Neko and the other was completely Tori. The same could be said for their daughters. Their sons names were Rida, named after Midoriichi's deceased father and the other was named Setsuri meaning providence.

The daughters names were Buraun, named after Reo's elder half demon sister, who had met her untimely end at the hands of her own flesh and blood. The other was named Jonetsu meaning passion. She was named after Josei's deceased sister who had been killed by Komori some centuries ago.

Rida was the oldest being born 50 years ago, behind him was Setsuri who was age 45, then there was Jonetsu age 35 and Buraun who is 20 years of age.

However today was one of the peaceful days, because today marks the very day Moniku was defeated. Chisana-ichi rubbed her stomach as she was already pushing two months of pregnancy. She was awaiting the return of Chita who was appointed by both Chisana-ichi and Reo to lead a task force comprised of the elite from both clans to hunt down and kill Midoriko.

Midoriko who had self-exiled herself one hundred years ago, had grown to be considerably powerful and her aura was darker, much darker than it could have been anticipated. Chisana-ichi knew it was mostly because of the Hell's mark that was branded on to the back of her older sister's neck. The Hell's mark gave Midoriko's full demon power a huge boost.

Midoriko used her power to rally together the smaller clans against the monks who they were fighting. Midoriko still held onto her version of peace, which led to several confrontations between the two twins.

Chisana-ichi clenched her fists harder, as Midoriko continued to drift through her mind. She was going to avenge their mother's death, she knew Midoriko could only fend her off for so long.

"You need to calm down." A voice said coming from behind.

Chisana-ichi turned to see Midoriichi coming up behind her. "Morning Mother." Chisana-ichi said greeting her.

"Let me guess Midoriko has your feathers in a bunch?" She asked.

Chisana-ichi nodded. "Even after a hundred years I cannot bring myself to forgive the treachery she has caused. I know you wanted me to honor mother's dying wish by accepting her back, but she too far gone."

"Be that as it may, she is still your sister." Midoriichi told her. "I know forgiving her will be hard, because I am going through the same thing. However I do believe it's the mark of Hell that is pushing her to do these things. Whatever evil thoughts Moniku implanted into her before she died, still linger within your sister making her..."

"Making her Moniku's heir to her dark power, a being that'll one day become even more powerful than Kuraiichi, I remember what Jodan told us." Chisana-ichi said.

Jodan had prophesized Midoriko's growth in power, and the calamity it would bring before she passed away of old age sixty years ago at age 83. So far Jodan's predictions were right, and stopping Midoriko and her little war became top priority.

"Besides Jodan left us with a present remember?" Midoriichi asked as she pulled a golden cross. The cross was laced with holy energy, which is why Midoriichi only held it by its chain.

"The cross of Kimiko." Chisana-ichi said. She had seen this many times as it was made from the remaining spiritual energy Kimiko's body had contained before they laid her to rest. "That cross will be able to kill Midoriko."

"Not kill, but seal her away. This cross will drain her of her demonic powers completely, and then we'll use the Daiyokai Sealing Scroll, she left behind for us as well." Midoriichi said as she looked to her left.

A large scroll was hung on the wall; its only purpose was for when they were ready to seal Midoriko away. The scroll was black and had white markings on it, when completely unrolled the markings formed a raven.

"Still it will be difficult with just the cross alone." Chisana-ichi admitted.

"Which is why Jodan commissioned that four other holy weapons be made, to weaken Midoriko." Midoriichi said.

"Four others?" She asked.

"That's right." They heard a voice say.

Turning around they saw Reo walk in with Chita who had just returned from his expedition.

"You knew about this?" She asked.

He nodded. "I was the one who brought to her attention. I realized that it would take a great deal of effort on our part, so I thought I'd level the playing field." He said, before motioning them to follow him.

They all walked further back into the depths of the cave. There they came to a spot Reo had kept hidden away, from their clans. He pushed aside a small boulder, that revealed a small tunnel. Once they reached the end of that tunnel, they came face to face with four golden holy weapons.

One was a spear, the other a staff, another a katana, and the last was a pair of golden steel tessen fans.

"I present to you the Spear of Jodan, The Katana of Ron, The Tessen Fans of Yori and The Staff of Hori." Reo said. "Each one of these is just as strong as the Cross of Kimiko."

Chisana-ichi looked over to her husband. "One for each of us."

"Not for us." Chita said interrupting her.

"Then if not for us, then for who?" She asked.

Chisana-ichi looked at the faces of her loved ones as they all stared back at her not saying a word. Slowly she began to put two and two together, as she filled in the missing spaces.

"No! No way! I am not letting our children use those weapons." She protested.

"Ichi.." Reo was about to say.

"Don't Ichi me. I don't want them to get dragged into this."

"But they've already fought Midoriko." Chita pointed out.

"Exactly, they know how powerful she is. They should know they don't stand a chance against her." Chisana-ichi said.

"Well if they can't do it, then what hope do we have of beating her?" Midoriichi asked her daughter?"

"What is that supposed to mean?" she asked her mother.

"Just like when we defeated Moniku, it's time for a new generation to take down Midoriko." Midoriichi pointed out.

"Midoriko will kill them." Chisana-ichi said. "I don't want to raise our unborn child to fight our problems."

"We'll be with them every step of the way." Reo said as he placed his hands on his wife's shoulders. "They can't do it alone, but together they'll be unstoppable."

Reo pulled Chisana-ichi in and embraced her. She held him tightly, as she protested more against their children fighting. However she slowly came to realize that they were right. She needed to have more faith in her children, but before she could do that, she would face Midoriko on more time.

'Chisana-ichi, I'm not going to change, so you don't either.' Those are the words she remembers hearing her sister say to her one hundred years ago.

After that was settled everyone left to give Reo and Chisana-ichi some time alone.

Elsewhere

Far from the combined lands of the unifed clans that are the Tori and Neko was Midoriko. Now a leader of a large band of demons that are fighting against the those that wish to end their existence. Midoriko hated humans, that much was clear and she wanted nothing to do with them. It was bad enough that they wanted her gone when she was a child, but now the humans sought to destroy the entirety of the demon race.

'What gives them the right?' Midoriko thought to herself as she exited the cave.

She realized a long time ago, that not all demons were created equal, but that mattered none to the eyes of a human. So her only plan of action would be to exterminate them, and she and her army would do just that.

She looked out, at the village her cave overlooked. There was a congregation of demons she had rallied together, originally to overthrow the Tori and Neko. Instead of killing them, she would force them to step down, allowing these smaller clans to finally step into the light, and forge their own destinies instead of feeding off the scraps her family and the Neko left behind.

She looked down as she could see young children at play. It was them Midoriko was fighting for, ensuring that they have a future. She smiled as she watched everyone go about their day. A mother and her two children caught her attention, bringing back memories of nolstagia.

The family turned and looked up to see that she was standing there watching them and smiled. They waved to her and she waved back, with a smile of her own. Midoriko watched the family walked back to their home, it took years to get this village up and running, and now the humans wanted to take away all the hard work she put in.

Suddenly Midoriko dropped to her knees in pain and grabbed the back of her neck. The Hell's Mark was acting up again. Every time it acted up, she could hear Moniku's voice echoing through her head. The mark calmed down, leaving a burning sensation in her neck. Hearing Moniku's voice infuriated her, it reminded her of one hundred years ago.

In the course of a hundred years she has killed many demons and humans, but Kimiko's life was the one she deeply regretted. Midoriko stood back up, wiping the sweat from her forehead, before taking flight. She was going to patrol the area, to see if the monks and priests were going to try and pull another sneak attack.

She caught a few human scents by the river causing a growl to escape her lips. She swooped down getting the drop on the humans. She grabbed the man as she hit the water, creating a huge splash. Her green eyes glowing with anger as she prepared to run her hand through the man's chest. The only that stopped her was the fact, that the man was not who she thought he was.

He was a simple fisherman and was out with his son, who watched in horror as a demon was about to take his father from him. Midoriko felt her anger subside, as she took notice of the young boy who hid behind the bushes. She sighed and dropped the man.

"Sorry, I thought you were someone else." She grumbled.

She took flight once more, continuing her patrol. She knew this war would go by so much easier if she could gain some more support. She had actually once approached Chisana-ichi asking her younger sister to put aside their differences and help her. Of course Chisana-ichi declined, she still hated her after all, and Midoriko didn't blame her. Besides they spent most of their time fighting with Midoriko constantly trying to dethrone her.

Still it did irk her that her own sister would refuse to help not only her, but her own kind in what she considered a crisis. She then found herself thinking back to several months agao.

Flashback

"You refuse to help your own sister!" Midoriko shouted at Chisana-ichi as Reo and the others watched from the sidelines.

"No, I refuse to help a murderer." Chisana-ichi shot back.

"Ok, so I killed a couple of humans, so what?" Midoriko said waving her off.

"So what? You know what I'm getting at." Chisana-ichi growled.

"Damnit Ichi!"

"Don't call me Ichi!" Chisana-ichi said interrupting her sister.

"So you would let humans take the lives of the innocent? There are children out there that need protection." Midoriko told her.

"Then you protect them. I don't want to have anything to do with you or your followers. Anyone willing to side with you isn't worth saving." Chisana-ichi said to her.

"You forget sister, you're part demon as well, they're your people too." Midoriko pointed out.

"You forget that I'm part human too, and they are no people of mine." She said glaring at her.

Midoriko threw her hands up into the air, frustrated. "I suppose you all feel the same huh?" she said looking around. "Fine! I can't believe I came here to beg you for help. Me of all people." Midoriko said.

"Likewise." Chisana-ichi said as she folded her arms across her chest.

"I'll save them myself, but I'll leave the bodies for you to clean up. Take the humans side if you want, it's only a matter of time before they target you." Midoriko said before she exited the cave.

It was pouring rain, and thunder and lightning ruled the skies. Midoriko took flight leaving them behind once more.

Flashback End

Midoriko didn't need them, she was doing just fine on her own. She didn't want to unleash the mark of hell, but she would if that's what it took to protect the innocent from the wrath of humans.

"Watashi wa sorera o hakai surudarou (I'll destroy them). Watashi wa sorera subete o korosu! (I'll kill them all)." She said with a dark smile as the Hell's mark glowed again.

An hour later

Chisana-ichi was walking up to several graves in the forest that sat under a giant cherry blossom tree. The graves belonged to Hekuta, Akai and Kimiko. There were others that belonged to Ron, Yori and Jodan, who died of old age. Their lineage lived on through their children, and grandchildren.

Chisana-ichi placed a White Chrysanthemum on Kimiko's grave. She silently said a prayer, before sitting down at her mother's grave.

"Hi mom, it's still hard to believe that you're gone. It feels like only yesterday that I was looking at you face to face. It's hard to believe a hundred years have gone by." She said. "The kids have really grown; I wish you could see them. Buraun is getting more beautiful everyday. Rida wants to travel and see the world. Jonetsu said that she wants to lead the clan and Setsuri. He wants to protect his family with all his strength. She let out a sigh. "I know you want us to be a family, and I've tried mother, believe I've tried, but I just can't forgive her. I'm not ready and I'm not sure I want to forgive her."

Just then another flower dropped down onto Kimiko's grave. It's a flower Chisana-ichi has seen quite often. It was a carnation. Chisana-ichi looked up and saw several black feathers floating down from above. She saw a form fly over, black wings propelling the figure through the sky.

'Midoriko.' Chisana-ichi thought.

Midoriko's form disappeared over the trees, but Chisana-ichi didn't look away. She closed her eyes. "I'm sorry mother, but that happy family reunion is going to have to wait." Chisana-ichi said as she gave chase after Midoriko.

Well guys that's it for Midoriichi Next Generation. Thanks to you all it's done and all I have to do is the oneshot, but I'm curious. You all tell me, did you enjoy the story?
