Authors note: Sorry that I've been gone for so long. I had a lot going on and didn't find the time. But, I hope to continue with my stories when I get a free day and inspiration.
Draco's eyes had gone back to normal, though his teeth were still a bit sharper than they should be. This didn't seem to be a huge problem, however. He would just be sure to cover his mouth slightly as he spoke so no one could really tell. The Slytherin wound his way through the corridors until he reached the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. He took his seat from the previous lesson and took out his books. Lupin was working with something on his desk, blocking it from view. Draco found himself glaring at the professor, wondering just how much he knew but wasn't letting on to.
The last few students filtered in just before the bell rang for class to start. Lupin turned with his usual tired smile in place. "Good afternoon, everyone." The group grumbled a greeting in response. "We're going to pick up our lesson where we left off last time." Many of the students sat up a bit straighter. "Now, I believe we left off on the benefits of being born with the werewolf gene." The class nodded, confirming his thought. "Good. Just to recap then: They heal very quickly; they have very powerful minds that often come with gifts such as telepathy, hypnotism, telekinesis, and such. I believe we had just discussed the topic of language. Can someone remind me what was said?"
Hermione's hand went into the air, as expected, but hers was not the only one. Draco's hand was up too. Lupin nodded to the blonde, much to Hermione's irritation. "They can learn languages very easily and sometimes use them by accident, not realizing they're speaking a different language than they usually use. There was also the possibility that they can speak while in their wolf form."
The professor nodded, a faint smile gracing his lips. "Well done, Mr. Malfoy. 10 points to Slytherin. Yes, the pure bloods pick up on languages very easily, including some that are not usually spoken by humans. Can anyone think of an example?"
This time, three voices spoke in unison. "Parseltongue." Harry, Hermione and Draco glanced at each other for a brief moment, though silver and green locked for a split second longer.
Again, Lupin nodded. "Very good… 5 points each. This provides me with a perfect segue into an interesting point. For whatever reason, Parseltongue seems to come very easily to them once they've come of age. It actually seems to be the easiest language for them to learn even though it is essentially impossible to teach a human the language. Now, I want to make it clear that just because someone speaks Parseltongue, this does not mean they are a pure blood werewolf. Parselmouths are an exception to that rule as they did not 'learn' the language; they were born with the power to understand it. Therefore, if someone has always been able to speak it, they do not count for this. If an individual suddenly starts being able to speak it, then you've got something."
'I'll have to be sure I don't slip into it, then…' Draco thought. 'I can't let this get out before I understand how to deal with it…'
Lupin continued. "Another important thing to keep in mind is that they do not get all these special abilities right off the bat. Usually they will have seduction and/or manipulation, but many humans have those as well. The more advanced ones need to be learned and developed. There is debate about a few other gifts going around lately as well. People are questioning whether the pure bloods are able to see the future. There have been multiple claims of premonitions and the like: odd dreams they can't find the meaning for, visions, half conscious drawings they don't remember doing…"
Draco's eyes widened slightly. 'I was drawing earlier, wasn't I? But, no, I remember what I drew. It was… was… Shit… I don't remember what it was!' He shook his head lightly, doing his best to keep from making himself panic. 'The last thing I need is for the wolf to get riled up…'
"Now," continued Lupin. "I'm sure it will come as no surprise that they can be very dangerous. As I said last time, they are intelligent and in control of their actions while in wolf form. They are good at strategizing and reading their opponents. If they find an enemy's weakness, you can be sure that they'll exploit it for all that it is worth. Not to mention that werewolves, even those infected like me, are stronger and faster than normal humans. For infected individuals, this is usually only true when they have transformed. Pure bloods, however, are much trickier to tell with. Some get stronger in human form, some get faster in human form, some get both, some get neither, and some get both but conceal that fact."
Neville raised his hand. "How do they conceal it? I mean, I can understand how they could hide being faster, but how do you hide the fact that you're stronger than you used to be?"
Lupin gives a nod. "A very good question. That depends heavily upon the person. For example, it would be pretty easy if someone was already well-muscled. At that point, it wouldn't seem that different. If someone smaller in frame were to gain either more muscle or more definition to their muscle with no apparent cause, then that would be more difficult to hide and to explain." Once more, his gaze lingered on the blonde boy in the second row.
Draco's jaw clenched slightly. He could feel that his teeth were still pointed. 'Damn… Is this ever going to wear off? I can't go around covering my mouth every time that I speak for the rest of my life.' He did his best to just concentrate on what the professor was saying.
"They have more than a small dark streak in them as well and can be rather crude," he continued. "If they place an enchantment over something in order to protect it, it is very likely that it will involve blood somehow." A few of the students went slightly pale. "Many times they will require a blood sacrifice of some sort. They are also not known for their kindness or understanding when it comes to trespassers. If someone intrudes upon a pack of them, they have been known to kill the individual. It is usually rather brutal as well…" A few more students had paled lightly, one boy in the back looked like he was about to pass out or throw up. "More on that later though…" He glanced at the clock. "I'll tell you what; I'll let you out 10 minutes early. I think we've met the bigger goals that I had planned for today."
The students stood and shuffled out. They seemed more relieved this time than last, most likely because of the darker nature of this lesson. Draco stayed behind, pretending that the zipper on his bag was stuck. Once the classroom had emptied, he shut his bag and walked to the front of the classroom where Lupin was again working with the thing on his desk. "Professor, I was wondering if I could have a word with you." Draco's voice was slightly hesitant. He hated to admit it, but he was nervous. He didn't know the man very well. Then again, he knew if anyone would be able to help him even a little, it was going to be Lupin.
The professor stopped what he was working on and turned to face the blonde. "Of course. What can I help you with, Draco?"
Draco shook his head lightly. "Please don't act like you don't know, sir." His voice was more or less respectful though he worried he may not have been able to completely filter out his frustration. "How long have you known what I am?"
Lupin gave a light sigh. "I thought I sensed it three years ago, but I thought I could be wrong. There was no doubting it this year though… So, I am to assume that it has started affecting you now?"
Draco gave a nod. He lifts his head, and lowers his hand as he speaks. "Yes, it has…" The professor got a clear view of his fangs and nodded. "I don't know what to do… And I know it isn't the same as your situation, but…"
Lupin put a hand on the teens shoulder in a rather fatherly gesture. "Draco, I would be happy to help. Whenever you need me, my door is always open." He gave the blonde his usual weary but sincere smile. Draco was surprised to find that it actually helped. He thanked the professor and headed for the door of the classroom. He went to leave but hesitated. He turned after a moment and voiced the doubt he had been harboring since he woke up. "Professor…" Lupin looked back from his desk. "Last night… The moon wasn't completely full... Was it?"
The professor shook his head. "No, it was not. It was full enough to stimulate a transformation triggered by emotion in your case. It was not strong enough to be the cause of the transformation though."
The blonde spoke, his hand gripping the door handle. "I see… So, a shift last night was triggered only by me, the moon only helped enhance it… Hypothetically…" Lupin donned a soft smile. "So, the true full moon is tonight then?"
The older man gave another nod. "Yes, tonight is when the moon will be completely full."
Draco gave a quick nod. "Thank you, Professor…" With that, he left the classroom, shutting the door behind him. His mind was teeming with thoughts, doubts and possibilities. 'If that's what happened just because of my emotions, I'm nervous to think what'll happen under the complete influence of the full moon…' These voices continued chattering in his head as he made his way to Divination.
Note: Sorry it's not as exciting as chapter 4, but there was some info I wanted to put out there cuz I think it could be important to know later. Let me know what you think and I promise I'll update when I can. Also, don't worry that this chapter wasn't 'exciting', there'll be another lemon scene in chapters to come. ;)
