Peter and Wendy met John outside in the middle of the village. Michael and Tootles still clung to their necks, until John took his brother from Wendy. "I need a hug from my little brother," he said, squeezing Michael tightly.
"I'll miss you so desperately," said Wendy sniffing. She threw her arms around her brothers.
John placed his hand on her hair and kissed her forehead. "This leaving business you two have schemed up is becoming more distressingly real to me. I don't know if I can bear a separation. I'll miss Michael," he said giving the child another squeeze. "I'll miss you and Peter and whoever else decides to go with you. And I'll miss our parents. I dare say I'll never see them again."
Wendy hung her head. "We're deciding our paths, and that's a grown up thing to do. I never knew it would be this hard, I always thought we would know exactly the right answer and it would work out for the best. I want mother so badly right now to advise me," she said, tears leaking out her eyes.
Peter wondered not for the first time if he was doing the right thing. But Wendy seemed sure, and deep down he knew he couldn't stay in this place. It held too many haunting memories now and he could feel the weight of adulthood over him. This was no place for that.
"I'll miss you John," said Wendy, pulling away and cupping his cheek.
"I'll miss you too Wendy." He wiped a tear from his eye, and took off his spectacles pretending to wipe off some dust.
Peter started to feel tears well up in his eyes, and then shut them quickly. "Wait, John, who says you can't come visit us? You have fairy's here where you can gather fairy dust, and you know the path to take to enter your world. Why couldn't you visit when the baby is born?"
Wendy clapped her hands together. "Oh, Peter! You're brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!" She kissed him hard on the cheek. "John, please say you'll do it!"
"Well, jolly good idea Peter! Why didn't I think of that? Of course we will." He bounced Michael up and down on his hip, and his brother giggled and patted him on his cheek.
"Well, this changes everything! The cleverness of me, I've saved us once again!" said Peter, placing Tootles on the ground.
"Peter," said a voice behind him. "We've come to our decision."
Peter turned around to see Slightly standing behind him, his shoulders squared and his eyes focused.
"Yes boys," said Wendy holding her breath.
"I'm coming with you," said Slightly.
"I'm coming with you," said Curly
"We're coming with you," said the twins in unison.
"I'm coming with you," said Tootles, tugging at Peter's shirt from the ground.
"Peter, Mother," said Nibs looking at Wendy. "I won't be coming with you." He hung his head, and stood quietly.
"Oh Nibs!" cried Wendy running to kneel in front of him on the ground and grabbed him in a tight hug.
"I have to Mother. I need to be here for Tinkerbell when she wakes up," he said stroking Wendy's hair. "I'll never forget you. And we heard what Peter said. I'll come visit you in London."
"You'd better," whispered Wendy. "I'll miss you so much Nibs!"
"If you don't, we'll find you," said Slightly, rubbing his knuckles on Nibs' head.
John walked over to him. "You can live with us old Sport."
"Thank you John. Maybe I will for a little while, but I need to keep up the hideout. You never know when we'll need it again."
Tiger Lily came out from the long house. "What is wrong?" she asked, her arm encircling John's waist.
"Nibs will be staying with us," said John.
Tiger Lily smiled at him. "Good. I think that is a wise decision Nibs."
Wendy wiped her eyes and got up. "Let's have a picnic," she said. "And let's not think about leaving yet. I just want to be a family for a little while longer."
They nodded. Tiger Lily went in search of some dried meat and bread and the boys ran off to gather some fruit.
They all met outside the Indian village and sat in the grass talking and laughing as if nothing were going to change, well into the night.
When they returned to the hideout, Wendy and Peter tucked the Lost Boys into bed. Wendy told them a story about Nibs' brave deeds, and courageous acts. Nibs smiled as he drifted off, knowing that he would have many more to come.
When Wendy was satisfied that they were asleep, she took Peter's hand and led him into his room.
"Peter," she said sliding her arms around his neck. He grinned and began to caress her all over, burying his face in her neck.
"Hmm?" he asked in a muffled voice.
"Let's go somewhere and make love. One last time in Neverland."
He hurriedly moved her toward his bed, but she stopped him.
"No, let's go somewhere special. Let's go to the cove and the waterfall. I want to be with you where I first gave you my kiss," she said, her breath in his ear.
"Alright," he said, grabbing her hand and pulling her out his room.
"You go Peter, I'll meet you outside. I just have to grab a blanket."
"Ok Wendy, but I don't know if I can wait much longer," he whispered, his blood starting to boil.
He ran up the stairs and out the door. He didn't care where he was when he was with Wendy, but the cove had a nice finality to it, so he didn't mind.
She came out the door with a blanket wrapped around her, and Peter grinned. Her hair was soft tonight, and seemed glow and wreath her face in light. He scooped her up, and flew up into the sky, bundled in her blanket. "Why the cove Wendy?" he asked.
"I want to swim one last time with you."
"Swim?" he asked.
"Swim," she said, reaching her hand out from her blanket and running her finger down his chest.
"Ooooh," he said. "Swim."
He flew swifter now, and in no time they had made it to the cove. He dropped her next to the pool, and made a grab for the blanket, but she stepped away from him.
"Wendy?"
She smiled and let the blanket fall to the ground, and he took a sharp intake of breath. She was wearing her old nightgown, so tight he could see every curve. She'd hemmed the bottom half leaving it high up on her thighs. He loved those legs. It was so worn, it was practically see through, and Peter was having trouble breathing.
She backed up slowly into the water that sparkled in the moonlight. The sun and the summer season were back in Neverland and the water felt deliciously warm still from the afternoon.
Wendy submerged herself completely in the pool, and then lifted herself out letting the water stream down her back from her long hair. Now her nightgown was see-through and Peter swallowed hard. He didn't know how he'd shed his clothes, or when. All he knew was that he had walked into the pool to stand in front of the girl he loved, and now they were kissing and her nightgown was going over her head. Her arms held tightly to his neck as his hands found their way to her most sensitive areas and he began to tease her with his fingers. She went over almost immediately, and he smiled as she cried out in pleasure and whispered what a man he was in his ear.
He lifted her up and pushed into her gingerly, moving in and out as they stared into each others eyes, not breaking contact even through the moment that they came together. When the water finally fell still Wendy held his face in her hands, her legs still wrapped around him and their noses touching.
"I wish there was another way to say I love you," she said.
"You just did," he whispered against he mouth. He carried her out of the water like that, and fell with her into the grass.
