So sorry for being lazy and not updating. Maybe you should nag me more :)

CHAPTER 14

"I can scent a few mice,"

"What are we waiting for then?" Ivypool dropped into a crouch. "I see one!"

A mouse poked it's nose out from under a root. Molewhisker stayed back to let Ivypool catch it, but stayed prepared for if another dared to show itself.

The mouse darted away from the root. Ivypool sprang and landed perfectly. She killed it with a swift bite.

Another mouse squeaked and raced out from under the root. Molewhisker was ready for this one. He darted after it and caught it easily. He and Ivypool were having a lucky hunt, considering Newleaf had arrived and prey was starting to get richer.

He joined Ivypool by an oak tree where they buried the mice.

"We should continue hunting in the trees," Molewhisker murmured. "We've haven't been out for long and we've already caught two mice. We should find more soon enough."

Ivypool nodded. "Good idea."

Molewhisker could already scent a wren. Very strong. It suddenly flew overhead.

Don't let it escape!

Scrambling over his own paws, he chased after the wren until he was close enough. He snatched it from the air.

Another wren ran straight into Ivypool's paws. Ivypool jumped with surprise, then slammed her paw on top of it.

"How much are we going to catch today," Ivypool giggled. "If our prey is so mouse-brained it runs to our paws and begs to be caught?"

"Well, there's a squirrel over there, but I'm probably too tired to catch it."

"Let's rest here for a little while," Ivypool suggested. "That squirrel doesn't know we're here. Let's watch the prey move around us."

Molewhisker lay down, watching the squirrel. The gray creature was collecting acorns and eating them. It didn't notice that there were two cats nearby.

A pigeon flew overhead. Ivypool followed it with her eyes until it stopped at the top of a pine tree in ShadowClan territory.

"Go try for the squirrel," she murmured.

Molewhisker crept around and silently climbed the tree until he was hanging above the squirrel. He dropped to the ground and landed on top of it. The squirrel dropped the nut it was nibbling and Molewhisker snapped its neck.

"Great catch. That was clever." Ivypool purred.

Molewhisker unearthed the mice. "We've caught more than enough. Let's go back."

...

Molewhisker dragged a chaffinch off the fresh-kill pile to share with Ivypool. Blossomfall was already there and nearly toppled over him.

"Oh, sorry Molewhisker."

"That's okay." Molewhisker watched her carry two mice over to Toadstep and settle beside him, then joined Ivypool.

"Bumblestripe's visiting Dovewing again?" Ivypool mewed. "He really needs to lay off on it."

Molewhisker giggled. "He's just worried."

Millie whispered something in Blossomfall's ear. Blossomfall nearly choked on the mouse she was eating.

"I'll be right back," she muttered.

...

What's wrong with Blossomfall?
