The mug clinked on the desk's surface prompting Italy to look up from his work. Despite his initial doubts, America was shaping up to be far more useful that he would have been able to imagine. Coffee runs were just one of the multitude of tasks the younger nation rarely needed to be prompted to undertake and he smiled slightly as he lifted the cup and took a large gulp. Plus he remembered how he preferred his drink after the first order and made it perfectly every time. He was far more useful than his previous assistant.
"Anything else?" the American asked smoothly, bringing his hands behind his back and tilting his head slightly.
Italy shook his head, placing the mug aside and attempting to focus on what was in front of him. Normally he had other do these sorts of simple tasks, but he really needed something to take his mind off things; things having a name and would not speak to him for anything outside of business. His pen paused above the page as the added presence in the room did not move. "What is it, America?"
The brunette stiffened, lifting his chin but otherwise holding his stance. "If I may…?"
Seeing this as the quickest option to give himself time alone as well as a distraction from his initial distraction Italy nodded and set the pen aside. "Go ahead."
America took his time to answer, gauging how his boss would react which alerted the brunette he was probably not going to like where this conversation was headed. "An observation…" he began, giving another cautious pause before continuing, "About you and Germany…"
"No," Italy replied firmly dipping head back down into his work.
"But sir," the American pushed his boundaries a bit further, "This sort of disruption in your personal life may cause greater problems in the future. That's not to mention what it is likely doing between the two of you as well. If it is not too much to say-"
"It is."
"If it is not too much to say," he continued by taking a seat across from the Italian and folding his hands, fixing his red eyes on the brunette behind the desk, "You need to deal with this sooner rather than later. You can feel the tension between the two of you when you are in a room together and even when alone I can see how upset you are by this."
"I'm not upset."
America sighed at his boss's stubbornness. "Yes, you are. Deny it all you like, but at the end of the day you need him and he feels the same."
Italy snorted, sitting back in his chair with crossed arms. "Even if, and I am not saying that you are, even if you were right about my half of that statement, I doubt Germany really feels that way anymore."
"That's where you are wrong. You can tell by looking at him that he still cares about you."
A moment or two more to mull over how useful America really was and Italy leaned forward and placed his elbows on the desk. "Is that so? And what makes you the new resident love expert?"
"I wouldn't go that far" the brunette laughed, glowing red eyes showing their amusement at the idea. "But I do notice some things. Like the way you glance at each other during your meetings. Or how disappointed you both appear when they come to an end." He smirked, one crooked and showing the gap in his teeth, and relaxed in his chair. "Trust me, there's still a connection between the two of you."
Never would the fuchsia eyed nation ever admit to someone beneath him that hearing those words gave him some form of relief to the anxiety he had been feeling as of late. Masking that emotion by pretending to ponder over the American's words, the brunette leader sat back and fixed a serious look on the other. "What do you suggest?"
America shrugged, jumping up to his feet and resuming his earlier position. "That is not my area of expertise, but I know you know of others better suited to helping you there." The crooked grin returned with confidence being placed in how he was sure his boss would react. "Would you like me to make a call? I can find time to fit it in your schedule."
Italy pushed his work away and rubbed his hands down his face. "Si, but not to my brother. Mio dio, don't think I can stand to hear him speak today."
A light chuckle as his assistant left room. "I will get into contact with Hungary then."
AN: How about I will just say I will update when I can...?
As a side note, I've been trying my hand at role playing this version of 2P America (I'm really bad at it though). About the time he switched sides, 1P Russia dragged him back and beat the crap out of him. (-_-)
