Quinn had known that that day would be hell, and she could only be grateful that no one else at school had found out about her being kicked out. She visibly put up her walls as she exited the car; hiding the scared girl she had been only hours before behind numerous walls so she appeared as her normal, strong, HBIC self.
Still, she felt like she was in a daze, as her day followed the same pattern it did every Wednesday. Teachers asked about homework, and there was gossip going around about how the quarterback had hooked up with some girl on the swim team, whose name Quinn didn't know. It was all so normal, as though after school she would be heading home to the suburbs like she had every afternoon before, a couple of her friends suggesting they do movies that weekend, with not a care in the world. It all just felt surreal.
Quinn didn't see Santana for the rest of the day, for which she was grateful; not knowing how to behave had they bumped into each other in the hall. She had made up her mind not to meet Rachel after school either, not wanting to have more to do with those sort of people than she had to.
So instead of meeting Rachel as agreed, she stayed inside long after the final bell had rung. She had actually planned on spending the night at the school, until the janitor practically kicked her out while he locked up, citing school policy.
She felt her heart sink as she exited the building to see the same car that Rachel had been in earlier parked at the far end of the lot. Hoping to escape notice she quickly headed in the opposite direction, continuing to walk as the car pulled up beside her, Rachel in the drivers seat and Santana seated beside her, with no sign of Mike.
"Quinn Fabray, get in the fucking car." Santana demanded as Rachel put the car in park.
"San." Rachel scolded, climbing out and walking towards the blond. "Quinn, wait."
Quinn paused and didn't look around.
"Quinn, we're just concerned." Rachel said, walking around to stand in front of the younger girl.
"Why, you don't know me. Why would you care?"
"I would care about anyone who turned up in an alleyway in the middle of the night, not being able to go home and clearly having no idea what to do next." Rachel replied. It was just the decent thing to do in her mind.
"Well thank you for the concern but I can manage on my own." Quinn replied, feeling shaken by Rachel's blunt assessment. "The last thing I need is help from you."
Quinn felt immediately guilty, but it was a self defence mechanism and Rachel's words had stung. Rachel's expression didn't change, and she was used to the way people like the Fabrays regarded her.
"Well considering that your friends are nowhere in sight and I'm taking an educated guess at saying you have nowhere to stay tonight, deny it all you want, but you do need help. Look," she continued in a softer tone "I know you don't know me, or Santana, and our reputations tend to precede us, but we don't have some sort of ulterior motive here. At the very least we can put you up for a few nights until you come up with an alternative plan."
Quinn had her eyes closed with a couple of tears were leaking out as she gave a tiny nod; feeling as if she could literally feel her world crumbling around her as she swallowed her pride and accepted the offered help.
"Okay, " Rachel soothed gently, placing a comforting hand on Quinns arm. "Let's go get something to eat."
Rachel guided Quinn to the car, getting into the back seat with her while Santana slid into the front.
"You scratch my car..." Rachel threatened as she handed over the keys, to which Santana just rolled her eyes and turned on the engine.
