The last time Emily went on a date was not since college and it happened to be a blind date. The date itself surprisingly ended really well; but the relationship ended abruptly. With her new beau wanting to change the way Emily spent her free time, Emily was not into pleasing anyone else but herself. Hoping Kate was different; Emily willingly decided to continue with her plans to meet up with Kate despite meeting with Paige last week. The brunette's gut told her what she was doing was wrong, but Emily knew Paige's family would never accept her and that would always be in the back of Paige's mind even if the auburn girl decided to be with her. That was the last thing Emily wanted; to be a nuisance to someone she cared deeply about.

As she adjusted her coat, Emily began walking out of the Union Square train station in the city. Looking down at her phone, Emily took in a deep break as she noticed she was about 3 minutes early. Discovering an empty bench in front of the park on 14th street, Emily quickly took a seat and huddled a little to keep herself warm. Sending a quick text to Kate that she was here, Emily placed her hands in her pockets as the chill air began taking effect against the brunette's skin.

Emily didn't know what exactly Kate had in mind for tonight, but knew they would be headed to Brooklyn right after dinner which was located right near the park. Hunching over, Emily continued looking toward her left and right to see if she could find any indication of Kate but soon found a pair of hands covering her eyes as a seductive voice began vibrating through her right ear. "You know, we can just go back to my place and I could warm you up in a second". Emily placed her hands on top of her acquaintance and simply smiled. "Well I rather we talk a bit before anyone goes to anyone's apartment".

Standing up, Emily leaned over to give Kate a quick kiss on the cheek; as she spotted the woman's black Hurley Winchester peacoat open exposing the blue off the shoulder top and white skinny jeans she was wearing. "You look beautiful" she stated.

"And you my dear, know how to take anyone's breath away" Kate responded as she hooked Emily's arm with her own. "So, have you ever had Belgian food?" she asked walking arm and arm with the woman towards the corner of 15th street.

Thinking a bit, Emily replied, "Actually no".

"Great! Hopefully you like this place. I always passed by it on my work until I finally tried it one day. It's called Petite Abeille". Kate explained. "They are the cutest little restaurant I've seen in a while, especially around here. The restaurants around this area are normally huge removing the intimacy it should offer, especially in New York."

"I know what you mean! Can't wait to see it. I'm always up for something new. Back in Boston there were only bars everywhere. It's great to see more restaurants then boozy ones around here." Emily said with a smile.

The two continued walking arm in arm, rejoicing in each other's heat as they made their way up to 17th street and descended towards 6th avenue. Finally reaching their destination, Kate held the door open for Emily while lingering over the brunette as she walked passed her. Kate couldn't help but focus her eyes on Emily's perfectly round ass as she followed from behind. Emily knew Kate was more attracted to her physically, but had to give the girl a chance to redeem herself. After 230 5th, Emily knew the two had to start over since they're encounter was over a drunken state; an encounter which Emily secretly regretted. But Emily also knew they're conversation over at Spencer's house was pleasant and warm. The brunette still had to figure out if she saw Kate as someone she could possibly be with as more than a friend or someone who was just that.

Approaching the front podium, Kate took a step forward as she spotted the hostess. "Hi, I have reservations under Kate" she stated as she made eye contact with the hostess.

Watching the strawberry blonde woman look for their reservations, Kate's face lit up when she heard her say, "Yes, right this way please".

As the hostess grabbed a few menus from under the podium, Emily began following the shorter lady as she soon felt Kate place her hand on her lower back, directing her to follow. Thinking to herself that was nice, Emily felt somewhat agitated as she realized it remained there even as they got to their table in back of the restaurant. Watching as the sandy hair brunette pull out her seat, Emily gladly obliged as she took in the surrounding décor. The restaurant was small and intimate but had a very southern feel. The table cloths were all blue with strips as though each table was its own picnic table. As the candles flickered all around them, it gave the restaurant an endearing glow. A small smile crept on Emily's lips, before she started the conversation. "This place feels absolutely homey. I love the décor. It adds a bit of tenderness to the atmosphere" Emily stated as she placed her dinner napkin across her lap. Opening her menu the hostess passed to her, she continued. "So since I never had Belgian food, I'm just going to have to take your word on what's good here".

"I hope I don't disappoint" Kate responded as held Emily's gaze.

"I'm sure you won't" Emily replied back. Feeling a bit flustered, Emily directed her gaze towards her menu to take a look. Emily had to admit, despite trying to move on from the fact that Paige's family would never accept her; she couldn't help but compare the date to the dinner she and Paige shared a few months ago. The brunette could feel the familiar flustered feeling in her stomach, but it wasn't the same as it was with Paige. It was one of doubt and uncertainty; as any first date.

"I think we should take an order of the 'Gruyere Cheese Croquettes', the 'Mushroom Tartine' and 'Mussels Marinieres' to start off. For our entrées I think you would love the 'Chicken & Waffle' and I'll take the 'Seared Atlantic Salmon'. What do you think?" Kate replied as she placed the menu on the table.

Emily's brows furrowed. She didn't even ask me what I liked to eat. Paige didn't either, but she knew what I didn't like. Disregarding the thought, Emily smiled. "That sounds perfect, but I don't like mushrooms. But by all means you should definitely order it".

"Thanks, I really do love the 'Mushroom Tartine' here. But I promise you will like everything else. So how do you like it in New York so far?" Kate asked as she took a sip of her water.

"Well I lived here before. I moved to Boston because of college. But it feels amazing to be back." Emily answered as her thoughts suddenly drifted to Paige. "Especially when it comes to seeing old faces".

"Right, you and Paige went to high school together. How was she back then?" Kate asked curiously. "For some reason she comes off as the mysterious type. She seems to keep to herself"

Looking down at her hands, Emily began feeling guilty especially after her conversation with Paige a few nights ago. "I really didn't know Paige all too well. She was dating my best friend at the time, and I was ironically dating her best friend. What a cliché huh?" Emily began. "What I did know about her was she made a great captain for her Lacrosse team".

"She was captain of her Lacrosse team?" Kate exclaimed. "I can totally see that. Something tells me she needs something to let out her built up aggression"

"She was captain, and she cared so much about her teammates. I think that quality showed in her personality" Emily noted as she began feeling defensive of the girl. Kate has no right to think negative of Paige as Emily thought back to a past time. About to continue, a tall macular man came over to take their order.

"Good evening ladies. My name is Chris and I'll be your waiter for the night. To start off, would you girls like anything to drink?" he politely asked.

"Yes, can we have a bottle of your Pinot Noir please?" Kate quickly answered. "And we're also ready to place our orders" she continued as she grabbed the menu. "For our starters we would like an order of 'Gruyere Cheese Croquettes', the 'Mushroom Tartine' and 'Mussels Marinieres' to share. And for our entrees the lady would like 'Chicken & Waffle' and I'll take the 'Seared Atlantic Salmon'" Kate concluded as she handed the man her menu.

"Will do, thank you" the waiter replied taking both menus.

"Where were we?" Kate asked as she looked at Emily. "What about you? What were you like in high school?"

For some reason, the way Kate took over the ordering for them didn't set well with Emily. She seemed forceful and direct. Sure she did give her permission to order, but it just felt as though she was use to controlling the situation. The waiter didn't even have time to finish writing before Kate had given him the menus to bring back. Mentally nodding her head, Emily brushed it off yet again as she threw the question back at the sandy brown hair. "What do you think I was like?"

Kate smiled as she leaned back against her chair taking in Emily's appearance. "Well given your physical physique, I can tell you were active; maybe head cheerleader? Dating the popular kid who was also very physical? Since Paige was the captain on the Lacrosse team, I would guess your ex was also on the Lacrosse team".

Emily licked her bottom lip in aversion as she tried hiding the complete disgust she was currently feeling before asking, "What about grade wise? What type of girl do you think I was?"

"You currently work at one of the biggest accounting firms globally, so I'm assuming you didn't really like English or Science but you loved Math which you exceled at. You were top of your class, but because you lacked interest in a few subjects I would say GPA was around 3.5?" Kate finished with smile.

Letting out a laugh, Emily nodded. She felt a bit insulted, especially since Kate thought she was the type of girl to sit back as her girlfriend did all the physical activities. "Ok ok, well you're basically wrong…about everything. I'm going to be a bit straight forward and say I'm honestly a bit offended you take me as the kind of girl to just let the people around me excel at everything while I just watch." Emily responded as she took a sip of her wine that was just delivered to their table. "I was actually captain of the swim team of our high school. I was also editor in chief of our paper, so English was sort of my favorite subject which allowed me the opportunity to receive a partial scholarship once I attended college. You were right I did excel in Math, but I also excelled in every other subject and that includes science. My GPA was a 3.8 which allowed me to graduate with honors. The worse subject I had was art, I absolutely hated art but that didn't mean I didn't try. I at least received a 3.7 for that class." Emily corrected as she leaned back.

While listing out the things she did in high school, Emily's mind unconsciously drifted back to her and Paige in the park during high school. The night Paige finally decided to be herself and let her guard down as the auburn girl admitted how proud she was of the brunette's undertakings.

"She would be proud of you and everything you accomplished. You're editor and chief of Midwood's paper. Captain of their swim team. You're popular, but you don't let that get over your head. You're smart, you're humble and you are one of the most sincere people I know. I can guarantee you. If someone like me is impressed, she would be too."

Licking her bottom lip, Emily snapped back to reality as she had to forcefully brush off her memories once again as the waiter brought over all their appetizers making her slightly drool at the mere sight at such appeal. "This all looks amazing".

"It is. Let's dig in" Kate responded.

Within minutes, the pair finished off their appetizers and continued onto the entrees which were as delicious. After an hour of just eating and chatting, the girls felt as though they were just going to burst.

"I'm sorry for being entirely wrong about the person you were back in high school. I honestly do apologize for that. I would however like to make up for it and get to know you better. You know the Highline is just a few blocks away. Do you want to take a small walk before heading to our next place?" Kate suggested as she wiped her lips. "It's a gorgeous night and I would be honored to have an equally gorgeous girl by my side"

Feeling her stomach, Emily laughed a little before answering. "Yes, that would be great. I feel like I'm going to explode. Maybe we should just walk to the other place while we're at it."

After agreeing Kate was going to pay for the meal and Emily would take care of the second place, the two left the restaurant and slowly made their way toward the Hudson River.

"So what were you like back in High School?" Emily asked. "I mean it's only fair right?"

Nodding in agreement, Kate responded "Yes, that is true. Well let's see. I was president of the student council. I ranked number 3 in my class and I was part of the theater, chess and dance societies at my school". Emily's eyebrows arched in surprise at how conceited Kate sounded as she began listing her accomplishments. "I had a 3.98 GPA only because I got a B+ in my AP Physiology class because my teacher at the time was acting as though she was Ms. 'Bow Down to Me' and decided to screw me over. Trust me when I say, I tried fighting her on it, but it is what is. During lunch which I always seen as 'free period' I always helped out the different department heads in order to get a social scholarship from them. I think that was basically it to sum me up. I never really did any sports team because I didn't really see the point if I wasn't going to continue on in college."

"Wow, you were well rounded weren't you?" Emily asked sarcastically.

"Definitely. I needed to make sure I got into Brown. It's a family tradition" Kate responded proud of herself.

"It sounds like you did amazing in high school" Emily replied.

"I did okay. So tell me about yourself Ms. Fields" Kate started. "What's your deal?"

"My deal?" Emily asked. "I don't have a deal. I'm just like any other girl"

Kate turned to block Emily from going any further, allowing her to face the brunette. "An insanely hot girl" she whispered leaning in.

Taking Emily by surprise, Emily leaned back avoiding the kiss and she slightly pushed Kate away. "I think it's a little too early for that. How about we talk a little more?"

"Ah, I like a little challenge" Kate cleverly said as she valued Emily's boundaries.

Emily knew she would not be drinking as much as she did that night of 230 fifth, therefore her sobriety gave her the added advantage to think clearly. Continuing to walk, Emily turned in time to catch Kate looking at her from behind before giving her a quick smirk. "Are you going to stand there all day or are you going to walk with me?" Emily asked a bit flirtatiously.

The two girls continued their walk until they reached the West 4th area. Knowing they needed to hop onto the F train, the pair made their decent from the beautiful view of the Highline and began heading toward Brooklyn. Getting off at York Street, Kate began leading Emily across the brick road towards a small pub called "SuperFine" but not before enjoying the view of the historic downtown all New Yorkers love to enjoy. As they crawled passed the first wave of customers by the front door, Kate grabbed Emily's hand and led her toward the bar area.

With the music pumping as loud as it was, Kate knew she had to lean in to discuss anything with the brunette. "I normally come here because it's the only place around here that has a free pool table".

Emily smiled as she leaned in, "yeah, you also have to wait 4 hours to use it given there's literally one pool table." looking toward the crowd of people surrounding the pool area. "You do know there is something called a billiards right?"

Kate couldn't help but crack up. Looking to the bartender she screamed out, "Two fireball shots please".

Looking at the girl in hesitation, fear immediately crawled across Emily's eyes. "You really think we should do that? Given our last encounter, I figured we could maybe keep it a low key tonight."

"Goodness, how old are you? We're in our 20's! Of course I think we should take a few shots. Plus I heard you like whiskey. We just need a way to get a bit…friendlier." Kate said as she sat down on a stool pulling Emily toward her.

Struggling at first, Emily reluctantly decided to stand near the girl. "I do, but I don't think liquid candy would be the way to go" staring at the shots passed to her.

"To you" Kate said as she raised her shot glass. Emily gave her a courteous smile as raised her own glass. Deciding to accept her own distaste in the liquor, Emily took it against her better judgment. Feeling the liquid burn slightly as it crawled down her throat, Emily placed her shot glass down. "Can we have Jameson straight?" she soon heard Kate tell the bartender.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're trying to get me drunk, Kate" Emily said as she looked at the bartender. "Maybe we should take it a little slower tonight"

"Afraid you might like the person you become after a few?" Kate smoothly replied as she placed her left hand on Emily's lower back while her right began crawling up the brunette's inner thigh.

Feeling a bit uncomfortable, Emily politely removed Kate's hand from her leg and held onto. "I rather get to know the person sober before presenting them with my other side. I rather build a little bit of trust before getting too intimate them".

Minutes turned into about 2 hours before Emily began feeling a bit flush indicating it was time for her to call it a night. Besides the fact that she took 4 shots along with 2 glasses of beer, Emily made sure she drank enough water to counter the effects of the alcohol. Unlike her date, she could clearly see Kate feeling the opposite as she was becoming more excessive in her advances as it showed in the way she kept touching Emily. Just as Emily was about to say something, she soon felt Kate slightly lift the hem of her shirt and began grazing her fingertips across her soft skin knowing the girl was trying really hard to give her a kiss. Quickly removing her hand, Emily felt Kate grab her wrist held it against her back.

"Why are you acting like such a prude tonight?" Kate yelled out. "The other night you didn't mind me touching you. If I didn't know any better I would think you were just playing with me"

Instantly fuming, Emily grabbed back her wrist before she turned away and made her way toward the front door. Unfortunately, she soon felt Kate hastily grab her right arm yet again pulling her back toward where they were sitting.

Forcefully pulling back her arm, Emily stormed out the bar livid at Kate's actions. Taking in a deep breath, Emily knew alcohol was to blame for the rash decisions the shorter girl seem to be making forcing Emily to rest against the wall as she needed to figure out if she should go back inside or just walk away. Taking in deep breaths, Emily started tearing up by the merely thought of how rough Kate was acting. The girl had no right to use any type of force against her.

Visibly cringing, Emily soon heard, "Are you done yet? I honestly didn't take you as the emotional type. Thought you could at least hold your own."

Turning around angrily, Emily stood up straight. "Excuse me?"

"You know I really don't understand you" Kate smugly said as she walked closer to Emily. "You flirt with me at 230 fifth. Sing with me. Kiss me. Make out in a taxi. But then tonight you seem to want to run away from me" the woman continued. "Either you just like toying people or you like playing hard to get. But all in all, I think I deserve at least a kiss…don't you?"

Lounging at the frightened brunette, Emily tried to push Kate away but unfortunately as she felt the woman's grip on her arm, the brunette ended up falling back against the corner dumpster; ripping her jeans as she fell and bruising her arms once she hit the floor. Kate quickly kneeled down to try to help Emily up, but was kicked in stomach in a defensive move by the brunette.

Feeling the pain rip through her, Kate got even angrier. Noticing the brunette struggling to get up, Kate forcefully pushed Emily right back into the dumpster as she watched the girl fall back yet again. Emily felt even more agony as she realized she hit her side harder than expected.

Kate didn't see how much pain Emily was really in, in all honesty she really didn't care. All she saw was rage. If Emily didn't want her, all she had to do was say she was done for the evening. Instead the brunette began acting distant toward her; making her feel petty. That was the last thing Kate wanted to feel. She hated being led on. Thinking she felt a connection with the brunette at Spencer's house party followed by the McCuller's party, Kate was sure the attraction wasn't based off of a one night fling where she barely got a kiss.

Using the fact that the brown eye brunette was still on the floor, Kate leaned over as she held grabbed Emily's shoulder harshly. Watching the girl cry out in pain, Kate used her other hand to forcefully clutched Emily's face as she stated, "all I wanted was a nice evening out. I didn't expect you to be so distant toward everything about me". Kate didn't realize the grip she was currently sporting onto the girl as hard as she expected, but the look Emily gave her was making her angry.

Suddenly brought out of her stupor, a man violently grabbed Kate by her right arm as he pushed her to the side; far from Emily. Emily used that opportunity as a way to escape. Running as fast as she could, Emily didn't care where she was going. She ran wherever she could to get away the vile woman as she felt her tears drenching her face. She didn't care she didn't have her jacket, she didn't care it was practically freezing outside, all Emily wanted to be left alone and run from this place.
