August 1, 9:30 A.M. District Court, Defendant Lobby No. 2
Phoenix asked, "Maya? Aren't you a little nervous going out and being the defense for Alli's trial?"
She sighed, "Well, of course, Nick... I really haven't been in a situation where lives are at stake."
Jamie looked around in the massive hallway, and expressed her nervousness in her hands. They were shaking semi-violently, and vibrating almost 6 times per second.
Phoenix declared, "I bet I'll find you innocent within 2 hours. All I need is evidence, and I sure have a lot of it!"
Maya asked, "What time does Alli's trial start? I need to get a game plan going, anyway."
The attorney said, "It seems that her trial starts at... at... 9:40?!" Maya's hands thrusted upwards, and she yelled, "What? S-Seriously? I don't even have the right thing to wear!"
Phoenix prodded, "If you don't try, Alli's done for! You need to build that confidence of yours and go out there!"
"All right. I get the point, Nick. Anyway, perhaps I should get going."
Jamie waved a solemn goodbye, wondering if it was going to be the last time she saw Allison out of handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit. The "defense attorney" and Allison were then off to Courtroom No. 4.
August 1, 9:40 A.M. District Court, Courtroom No. 4
The courtroom's gallery was filled up with many people. The amount of chatter going on was massive. Maya could barely maintain her focus as she took a seat in the defense counsel's seat. She looked upwards towards the judge. It was the judge's brother; his hair had an almost out-of-place blonde hue.
She also turned her head forwards, staring at the prosecution. Not too long after she looked, Miles Edgeworth calmly and cooly sat down and began straightening his hair.
"Edgeworth... at least I don't have to go up against Prosecutor Helado. But even Edgeworth isn't that easy to go up against... do I even have evidence?"
Before she could deliberate with herself anymore, the judge smashed his gavel downwards with significant force. "The court is now in session for the trial of Ms. Allison Brooks."
Edgeworth smiled mockingly and said, "The prosecution has arranged itself, Your Honor."
The judge asked, "And as for the defense?"
Maya nervously ran her hands through her hair and stammered, "W-We are ready?"
His Honor asked, "I think I've seen someone like you previously... I think her name started with an 'M' or something like that. But I have one question."
"Yes, Your Honor?"
He groaned, "Where is your attorney's badge?"
Maya, in response, answered, "I... I'm not really an attorney... but Mr. Wright is in another trial and... I don't know what to do!" The judge sighed, "All right. I'll let this go by, but only once. Speaking of that, Mr. Edgeworth, give your opening statement, if you please."
"Your Honor, Allison Brooks is guilty of attempted murder and conspiracy. On July 29, 2019, she entered the boy's locker room in James Madison High School, and aided Jamie Patterson in the brutal slaughter Reggie Simmons, the lead trumpet player in the school band. She also had a grudge against the faculty and the staff of the school district.
"To show her disgust, she took a gun, and opened fire on Gregory Watson, the principal, during a speech after the murder. Mr. Watson was severely injured, but not killed. And here we are now, debating her innocence. I have also decided which witness I am going to call first."
"And who's that, Mr. Edgeworth?"
He replied, "Your Honor, the prosecution would like to call Detective Barry Snodgrass to the stand." The judge answered, "Very well. Mr. Snodgrass... to the stand!"
The young detective appeared quickly, and he took his spot on the stand. The judge asked, "Mr. Snodgrass, what did you have to do with the investigation into the attempted assassination?"
He replied, "Your Honor, I examined the scene and helped the police file the official report. I will summarize my report in my testimony." "Very well. Mr. Snodgrass, if you will, tell us aboot what you found?" Maya tensed up, preparing herself for the Cross-Examination that followed.
Snodgrass said, "I was called by the police to investigate within 3 hours of the incident. I barricaded the area promptly and took notes on what I saw. I also took several photographs. I had determined that the killer, Ms. Brooks, had stood 50 meters away, and she had waited for a change in wind direction, and then fired! A single .45 caliber bullet rocketed through the air, striking Mr. Watson seconds later!"
The judge prompted, "Mr. Snodgrass I would prefer if you would give your distance measurements in Imperial units rather than Metric. This is the United States, after all, not Canada."
Maya grumbled quietly, "Like you know any Customary, you hockey hayshaker!"
"And now... um, what's your name again?"
Maya replied, "Maya Fey."
"Ah, yes. Now I remember who you are. Your sister told me about you several years ago, but for now, Cross-Examine the witness!" She answered, "Yes, Your Honor." Secretly, she didn't know what to expect, and hoped she wouldn't embarrass herself, or ruin her reputation.
Snodgrass resumed, "I was called by the police to investigate within 3 hours of the incident. I barricaded the area promptly and took notes on what I saw. I also took several photographs. I had determined that the killer, Ms. Brooks, had stood 50 meters away, and she had waited for a change in wind direction, and then fired!"
Maya yelled, "H-Hold it!" "How are you so sure that the killer fired when the wind changed direction? And why are you so sure that my client was the shooter?!"
Snodgrass sneered, "It's common sense, Ms. Fey. The wind was blowing quite hard that day. The wind speed was about 25 kilometers per hour."
The judge reminded Snodgrass, "Imperial units!"
Snodgrass waved his hand. "Forget that. But regardless, I know for a fact that Ms. Brooks had the gun, and I can verify myself with my evidence. After all, how can you deny it when..."
A single .45 caliber bullet rocketed through the air, striking Mr. Watson seconds later!" Maya scrambled around the bench, trying to gather her bearings. After a small pause in the scrambling, she pointed her finger at Snodgrass and screamed, "I disagree!"
"Mr. Snodgrass. You're making your testimony sound epic."
The detective roared, "How can't I be awed? This whole attempted assassination was too amazing to ignore!"
She slammed her hands downward. "Mr. Snodgrass, what evidence do you have to prove that it was a .45 caliber bullet? After all, evidence is everything... or something like that."
Snodgrass leaped into the air as if he was a frog. "Yikes! Whoops!"
The gallery erupted into chatter, and the judge rapped his gavel. "Order! Order in the court, I say!"
"Mr. Snodgrass, can you explain why your epic story was nothing but filler?"
Snodgrass sweated, "You know... I got carried away, Your Honor. Sorry 'bout that."
The judge grimaced and stared. He then said, "Mr. Snodgrass, could you please give your testimony again?"
"With pleasure, Thou-er, Your Honor."
