August 1, 12:40 P.M. District Court, Courtroom No. 4
The courtroom became more and more quiet as the gallery and the attorneys awaited Sybbie Mackey to testify for the second time.
Maya sighed, "I can already tell this isn't going to be a good end for Alli. Unless I can break the chain in the testimony!"
Sybbie sneered and said, "So I saw the gunman shoot Mr. Watson, right? And so the bullet travelled through the air at high speed, and powered on through the poor man's skull. Almost immediately, I saw blood eject from the side of his head, and he then collapsed!"
The judge sighed, "Sybbie. How is this exactly supposed to indict the defendant? I believe that the trauma surgeon already determined the extend of Mr. Watson's injuries. I would like you explain how this is beneficial to the case." Sybbie screamed, "But I'm not done yet!"
"After the shots were fired, I heard a whisper from behind me. It was the voice of a girl. Specifically, a high school girl. She said, 'We've hit the fucker'! Then there was the sound of vile laughter and rapid footsteps. That voice must've been the accomplice, talking via walkie-talkie to Allison Brooks, the almost-murderer!"
Edgeworth smirked in delight and satisfaction. He then bowed. The judge resumed, "Now it all makes sense. So the accomplice is what will lead us to the perpetrator." Sybbie happily remarked, "Of course, it will!" Maya's head drifted downward on the counsel bench.
"Shoot. That's some solid talk right there. Maybe if Nick was here, he could figure everything out. What does Nick always do when he rebuts a claim by a witness, again? I swear I can remember..."
It then all came back to her suddenly. "That's right! Evidence is everything. I'll just have to prove how outrageous Sybbie really is!"
The judge continued, "Ms. Fey, you can now Cross-Examine the witness." Maya wondered, "What if Helado was here instead of Edgeworth? Then I would have been screwed!"
"After the shots were fired, I heard a whisper from behind me. It was the voice of a girl. Specifically, a high school girl. She said, 'We've hit the fucker'! Then there was the sound of vile laughter and rapid footsteps."
Maya yelled, "Hold it!"
"Vile laughter? What do you define as 'vile laughter'?"
"When someone laughs evilly, like villains in old Saturday morning cartoons." Maya sighed, "Such things haven't existed for at least a decade now. Now to focus in on the main point! Sybbie waved her finger in the air and sighed, "It makes me sad to think about the medical expenses that man has racked up in his few days in intensive care. But I may hold a clue as to how he got in this mess..."
"That voice must've been the accomplice, talking via walkie-talkie to Allison Brooks, the almost-murderer!" Maya thought, "Little evidence... hasty conclusions; it's time to take action!" She pointed her finger, lunged forward, and screamed, "Objection!"
"Sybbie. Why are you attempting to hastily mix all of these random details so that they all fit together like a puzzle?" She screamed, "That's a conspiracy! What I am telling you is real!" Maya slammed her hands downwards. "What you are trying to do is make up a bunch of fake evidence to attempt to convict my innocent client!"
Edgeworth screamed, "Objection!"
"You, Ms. Fey, are certainly talking but not walking. What is wrong with my witness's testimony, I say! Come on! Tell it to my face!"
"OBJECTION!"
The counsel benches vibrated. "There... is a... definite contradiction in Sybbie's testimony, which is this-"
The judge slammed the gavel downward very hard. "Ms. Fey, please reduce the volume of your voice. If you have another outburst like that today, I will find you in contempt of court."
She sighed, "Yes, Your Honor." Sybbie giggled and pointed her finger at the defense.
The judge coughed. "Now what exactly was the contradiction that you found, again?" Maya gasped, "There is not one piece of evidence to prove that Ms. Brooks was present at the crime scene. In this written statement, the defendant's parents stated that they were at least 5 miles away from the crime scene for the whole day, including when they went grocery shopping."
Edgeworth sneered, "What a joke. People lie all the time. Why should we believe the words of the parents? They are simply attempting to testify in their child's own defense."
Maya pointed her finger at Edgeworth. "I'll show you!"
The court erupted into chatter and disarray. The makeshift attorney took several deep breaths as most faces in the gallery stared at her. The judge brought down his gavel three times. "ORDER! Order in the court! Sybbie, could you please give your testimony again?"
Sybbie wiped her face of sweat and took a breath, her eyes reddened and fixing solely on the defense counsel. "Why is it that you lawyers can never extract the right evidence? Can I testify without being treated like a lier and a fake? I'll tell you right now exactly what happened! Allison Brooks, the accomplice of Jamie Patterson, shot Mr. Watson to try and intimidate the school district! No questions asked!"
The judge grumbled, "It seems to me that in each of your testimonies, you are either indicting someone or you are talking about this 'conspiracy' as you call it. You credibility is getting lower and lower by the minute." Sybbie slammed her hands down on the witness stand.
"Believe me, Your Honor! You'll see that the defense doesn't stand a chance in the Cross-Examination!" Maya thought, "Just wait and see! Your testimony doesn't stand a chance!"
"Why is it that you lawyers can never extract the right evidence? Can I testify without being treated like a lier and a fake? I'll tell you right now exactly what happened! Allison Brooks, the accomplice of Jamie Patterson, shot Mr. Watson to try and intimidate the school district!"
Maya screamed, "Objection!"
"Why are you trying to convince the court that my client is involved in the shooting? Where's your evidence?"
Sybbie screamed, "It's a conspiracy! You are perverting justice yourself! You won't accept the facts!" The "attorney" pointed her finger at Sybbie, knowing she was a downright lier.
"Where's this 'evidence' you keep talking about? It has to be imaginary! Mr. Edgeworth!" The prosecutor groaned, "If you're asking me if my witness is mentally sane and can provide testimony, she can provide testimony. It's just... it's not always accurate..."
Sybbie exploded in rage. "I came here because I AM PROVING THE TRUTH! AND MY FRIEND IS ALSO TESTIFYING IN ANOTHER TRIAL TODAY! IS THAT CLEAR?!"
The court gallery erupted into chatter, and the judge banged his gavel three times.
"ORDER! ORDER! ORDER IN THE COURT! Now, Sybbie... What trial is your friend testifying at?" She replied, "The trial of Jamie Patterson, the killer of Reggie Simmons!"
Maya suggested, "Perhaps you should be testifying there, if you know so much about what happened."
Sybbie smiled and said, "Great idea! And maybe she could testify here also."
The judge lowered his gavel once again. "I suppose we could get that arranged. I will communicate with them by the intercom." The court grew quiet and waited for the answer.
