August 1, 2:10 P.M. District Court, Courtroom No. 1

Maya Fey found herself in a very sticky situation. The judge had let the court go into recess once more, this time to find a doctor in order to confirm whether the strange red marks on the witness Olivia Mazak's hands were, in fact, burn wounds. Edgeworth straightened his cravat and began to make his way out of the room.

The court gallery observers made a long and bore sigh and began to get out their mobile phones. Meanwhile, the defense simply sat where they were and did nothing. Maya did not exactly know what to do, as the trial would now be delayed even further, which was something she didn't want to have happen.

She truly believed in the innocence of her "client", Allison Brooks. Though Maya wasn't an actual defense attorney, she was attempting as best she could to get a Not Guilty verdict. In her mind, the longer the trial took, the more evidence that Edgeworth could rally up and use against Alli.

Maya knew if she was to attempt to get the trial back and running, she would need to prevent the recess by using a strategy that Phoenix used routinely. The benefits would outdo the risks.

"Objection!" was the next thing that bounced off the walls of the courtroom. The judge blinked in shock, and Mazak turned around in surprise. Surely she thought she was going to escape without incident.

"Your Honor, I would like to present a new piece of evidence for the court. It involves reasonable doubt." Edgeworth was not anywhere near the prosecutor's bench, but he had a retort to give.

"Objection! Your Honor, disregard Ms. Fey's last statement. It is irrelevant. We will determined whether or not Ms. Mazak really has burn wounds on her hands when we have a professional examine her hands."

Maya let out an even louder "OBJECTION!" and pointed her finger at the prosecutor.

"Mr. Edgeworth, it will not be necessary to prove if her "burns" are burns because of the evidence collected!"

Edgeworth called out, "Your Honor, are you seriously going to listen to this pile of lies the defense have just spoken? Will you let a little teenage girl ruin the outcome of this trial over a lie?!"

The judge made his way slowly back to the table and smashed the gavel forcefully. "Mr. Edgeworth, I can assure you based on the testimony that has been delivered up to this point, the defense's call for a delay of the recess is justified. Ms. Mazak seems as if she's uncertain, in a way. Therefore, your objection is overruled, effective immediately."

The prosecutor's mouth gaped wide open, as if His Honor was speaking a foreign language to him. Never before had Miles Edgeworth heard such a ludicrous statement in a District Court trial. In shock, he took a seat in the usual spot and sighed deeply as the witness got back on the stand. Edgeworth's hands were shaking and tightly gripped around his cravat.

Mazak slumped back onto the stand, sighing as everyone got back where they were before. By the time it was all said and done, 12 minutes had elapsed. Maya straightened her kimono and began to speak once more. She gave a look of displeasure at the judge.

"I would like to ask the court this question: Is there any other reason conceivable why Ms. Mazak would have burns on her hands like this?" Edgeworth rose his hand and then suggested his side of the story.

"Ms. Fey, you realize the burns of Ms. Mazak resemble chemical burns rather than burns caused by heat? It could be that, in fact, Ms. Mazak was simply burned by something during a school class? Am I right, witness?"

Mazak sighed, "Yeah. After all, I'm in chemistry, and we were doing this experiment with lye and it got all over my hands and so I was burned severely. I'm sorry if anyone misunderstood."

Maya yelled, "Hold it!" "Are we sure that Ms. Mazak can even take chemistry?"

Edgeworth smirked and asked Ms. Mazak, "Sure thing, Fey. Witness, please state your grade to the court."

"I'm a junior this year, Mr. Edgeworth. And I'm not sure what grade you have to be in in order to take Advanced Chem."

The prosecutor announced, "Your Honor, I have a school graduation requirements guide I would like to add as evidence. But first, let me read the sciences requirements."

"Well?" asked His Honor curiously.

"It says here that is you go to James Madison, the earliest grade you will be able to take Advanced Chemistry is..."

Is?" Maya questioned.

Edgeworth choked, "Senior year..."

The whole court erupted into an outroar. The court gallery erupted into a sea of panic and chatter. The judge resorted to his gavel to stop the aforesaid development.

His Honor resumed, "And so, Ms. Mazak, it appears that your excuse has been disproven. By the attorney that was supposed to protect you from accusations. Would you care to elaborate on this for the court?"

Mazak grumbled, "Well, you see... those burns weren't caused by... by gunpowder... they happened because... because... ERRRRRRRRAAAAAH!" The witness let out a horrendous scream and her hands flailed into the air.

Ms. Mazak's face turned from agitation to pure rage within seconds. She then slammed her face forcefully into the witness stand. A loud snapping noise was heard and the gallery gasped in fear. Even Miles Edgeworth, astounding prosecutor, cringed at the sound.

But that wasn't the end of the trauma. Mazak lifted her face up, her nose twisted one way, her face another. Her head came down even harder on the stand, and visible dust was lofted into the air as cracks formed in the wood of the stand.

The court grew silent as the Mazak ruined what was left of the witness stand with her facial bones and skull. Then, as suddenly as it had begun, the self-harm of the witness's breakdown ended. The whole event has lasted over a minute.

About 10 seconds later, a bruised and bloodied Olivia Mazak rose her head. She had a visibly broken skull, with a grinding noise happening when her head lifted up. Painfully she began to talk once more, every additional word more painful than the last.

"T-There's... something I have to tell you all about Mr. Watson's attempted assassination that... I've been hiding for a long time since then."

Maya implored, "And that is..."

Mazak sighed, "That I was involved in the shooting. And you can place all blame upon me. I'll tell you all what I did, why I did it, and how. After that, I will expose the true meaning of murder and the redress of grievances."

The judge said, "All right then, Ms. Mazak. Let's hear your final statement to the court."

"On that day, I was approached by my best friend, Sybbie Mackey. The first thing she told me was that Reggie Simmons was dead. She then told me that she had fired the killing shots and that she needed a cover-up. Apparently, she thought the school surveillance cameras had caught her on tape with the gun in her hand as she walked to the band storage room to kill him."

Edgeworth inquired, "And why exactly did you choose Mr. Watson as your next target?"

In severe jaw discomfort, Mazak told the next details even more slowly than the first ones. "Mr. Watson... was going to review the surveillance tapes the day after the speech, so Sybbie suggested that I lodge a complaint to him... in the form of lead."

Maya, the rookie "defense attorney" groaned, "And so you're basically saying you were going to kill a man to keep yourselves innocent for another two days by having a delay in the surveillance tape review?"

Mazak nodded her head and answered, "Well... we had a plan to keep the assassination train going... it just didn't get very far."

Edgeworth waved his finger around in the air and responded, "Ergo, you would potentially keep the investigation in check possibly forever?" Mazak didn't answer, her skull fracture presumably preventing her from any more storytelling.

"Ms. Mazak, you have been indicted on charges of first-degree attempted murder, perjury, and evidence tampering," dictated the judge. "Your trial will be conducted after a full police investigation. Bailiff, would you please escort the witness to the nearest medical facility for treatment?" The bailiff grabbed a hold of Mazak's mangled shirt and tugged her out of the back doors, the court gallery staring at the whole scene along the way.

His Honor continued, "Mr. Edgeworth, is there another witness you would like to call to the stand?"

Edgeworth sighed, "No, Your Honor. I feel that this case is unarguable based on the defense's work. I believe this trial has come to an end."

"Very well, then. I also have a verdict to announce at this time. This court find the defendant, Ms. Allison Brooks..."

"Not Guilty."

Confetti rained down from the ceiling and the whole courtroom cheered (except for Edgeworth, that is).

The judge smashed his gavel downwards and proudly noted, "Court is adjourned!"
