A/N: Please note that this is of course Fan Fiction, therefore the events described would be slightly deviated from the orginal telling.
And nope, I in fact do not own Warcraft or anything else I write about.
Ahhhh damn, two years already...My sincerest apologies fellow readers. I can make no promises except for one. That is fic will continue towards it's full and ultimately satisfying conclusion.
Chapter 24
"I do not expect any of you to like this but I want you to understand that one day the Prince will return," began Rommath to the small gathering within headquarters.
"He wouldn't dare, besides, from what you've told he won't last much longer when all abandon him," interrupted Lor'themar, causing Rommath to huff in annoyance.
"The Prince works on providing a cure for our immediate doom," Rommath shot back. "Albiet poorly, yes, but I have faith that his eventual chances of success are greater than that of failure. And the short term effects of our experiments are showing results," he continued, sliding the open tome across the table.
Arlandria, Lor'themar and as many as could fit gathered to quickly scan through the pages.
"This is barbarism..." Arlandria said in a horrifyed tone, only slightly above a whisper.
"This is what we must do to survive," replied Rommath in an icy tone.
"There must be other alternatives, there must be! This is not our way!" Arlandria said, her voice now rising.
She took full control of the gruesome book and scanned the pages much more quickly. But only found more of the same sickening material. Page after page that sickened her stomach and revolted her mind. At last she slammed it shut, unwilling to read anymore.
"Kael has fallen far indeed," she said morosely with her eyes downcast. "We must not accept this."
"What we MUST do General, is survive," Rommath replied, growing tired of her judgement.
"This...tapping...that you call it..it's..." Arlandria stalled, searching for the words.
"A short term solution," Rommath answered. "It is not pretty, but it is a necassary fix, at least for now. It gives our people with Prince Kael the ability to fight on."
"But these creatures, so many of them peaceful that we have co-existed with for centuries...We just begin torturing them to their deaths to feed?" Arlandria began. "We would be hardly different than the undead scourge feeding off the corpses of our own dead. We would be finishing their work, killing off everything in sight until there is nothing left, then continuing on to new lands to do the same..."
"Do not be a fool," spat Rommath, abruptly stopping her vocal reverie.
"Watch your tounge," Lor'themar warned.
"Arlandria has a point!" spoke up a Ranger Caption.
"What other choice do we have?" said another.
Soon the whole room was loud with heated debate. Escalating quickly once again to everyone attempting to shout over everyone else. Only Arlandria and Lor'themar remained silent in the midst of it all. She turned and gave her husband a solemn pleading look.
Lor'themar did not have an answer at first, only staring deeply into her eyes. His thoughts were torn and he could not see a perfect path forward. After several moments more he gave her a slow nod which she sublimely understood.
"ORDER!ORDER!" shouted Lor'themar until the room had grown quiet enough hear him speak.
"We must follow Rommath's suggestions," he started. "No matter how distasteful they are. It is at this time our best option."
"Adapting to change, something we have not done in many many centuries, will not be easy," Rommath stated. "We are changing as a people and that change must be recognized."
"Recognized how?" Arlandria asked.
"We are no longer 'High' Elves are we? We have fallen so far under our crushing defeat. After the loss of nearly everything, our only option is to rise," he answered.
"So then what are we then?" Arlandria pressed on.
"Prince Kael...crafted a word for us on the day I departed from him...Sin'dorei," Rommath spoke.
Everyone in the room was strangely quiet until Arlandria muttered, "Sin'dorei..."
The title of Sin'dorei passed through the lips of all the elves in attendance.
