Chapter Thirty-One

I Did It for Love

Two Months Later

Quinn bit down on her bottom lip as she stared down at the note that Rachel had delivered to her between classes. It had become the only way that the two of them could speak with each other over the last few months.

She was no longer a part of the New Directions because her parents had told Mr. Schuester that it was interfering with her grades. Which was a lie. She had straight A's. Her parents just didn't want her to be around Rachel or the other bad influences in the club. Mr. Schue had told her that she was free to come back at any time though. He had taken the news a lot better than Coach Sylvester when her parents told her that Quinn was off the squad.

Sue had a mental breakdown. She screamed at her parents for taking away her head cheerleader right before Nationals. Then she kicked them out of her office and proceeded to throw her things around in a violent rage.

Coach Sylvester had never been good at getting bad news.

Quinn's parents also took away her phone and internet privileges and told her that she was not to leave the house unless granted permission.

She was a prisoner in her own house.

It was like everything that Quinn Fabray had once identified with was lost and she no longer knew who she was. She was not the head cheerleader, she was not the most popular girl in school, she was not a glee club loser, she was not allowed to date Rachel Berry, she was not herself anymore. Her parents had taken away everything that she loved. And for what? She was still having trouble figuring that out.

The longer that she thought about it the less that it made sense to her.

She was taught in church to live a good life and not to judge others. That you had to leave that to God. That it was not her place. So, what right did her parents have to judge her and take away everything that she cared about just because she was in love with a woman?

It just wasn't logical in the slightest.

Honestly, she was growing tired of religion. It was getting to the point that she was starting to hate the idea of all of it. Religion was just a list of rules invented by people and she didn't know if she could trust them any longer. She wanted to go to Heaven, of course. But, she just couldn't believe that God could hate her so much just because she loved Rachel. She couldn't wrap her mind around that concept.

Hazel eyes scanned over the note and she smiled gently as she read the words toward the bottom.

'We will get through this together, Quinn.

I promise that I will wait as long as it takes in order to spend the rest of my life with you.

I love you,

Rachel Barbra Berry.'

At the end Rachel had placed a gold star sticker after her signature and it made Quinn's heart jump with delight. She had grown to have a certain fondness for gold stars since she met the other woman. They were almost as special to her as they were to Rachel. Only for her, gold stars weren't simply a metaphor for Rachel being a star, Rachel Berry was her gold star.

After reading the words once more, she tossed the note into the fireplace.

She always destroyed them after imprinting them in her mind. She could not risk her parents finding them and sending her away to that camp to "cleanse" her soul. There was only one more month left of school and she wanted to spend it as close to her girlfriend as physically possible.

Quinn watched the paper burn before her. The light flickering in her hazel eyes as precious words were erased from the planet, and she frowned. She hated her parents so much for what they had done to her. She just wanted to rebel. To force them to see who she really was inside. Clenching her fists she headed into the kitchen and got a packet of Kool-Aid, and some scissors out of the junk-drawer. Then she started up the stairs toward the bathroom.

She was going to make them see who she was.

O

"I actually find the pink to be rather adorable." Rachel said with a wide smile as she leant against the bathroom sink and stared over at her girlfriend.

Meeting in the bathrooms had become a regular occurrence for the two of them.

"Good to know." Quinn stated slowly, moving toward the brunette and grinning ear to ear. It was amazing how easily the other woman could make her heart race and her smile return. Nothing else had ever done that before. "My parents don't agree. They told me I have to change it back."

"Are you going to?" She wondered curiously.

"I haven't decided yet." She glanced over in the mirror. "I kinda like it. And if you like it too—"

"—which I do." Rachel interrupted, pushing herself away from the sink and walking toward the woman that she loved. These moments were fleeting and she did not wish to waste them standing so far away from her. "I think that if you like it then you should keep it. It isn't fair for them to take away all of your individuality, Quinn. You deserve to have something that is yours."

Those words hit her and they really made her think. Rachel was right. She deserved to have an identity of her own. If she wasn't the head cheerleader or a glee loser any longer, maybe this was the new her.

"You're right. I think I'll keep it."

Rachel's smile widened and her brown eyes shimmered with happiness as she reached up and ran her fingers gently through short pink hair. Her hair wasn't too short though, it went down almost to her shoulders and it was styled beautifully. She was still very feminine, she just wasn't the same Quinn as she used to be. Long blonde curls and summer dresses were a thing of the past and Rachel was alright with that.

She loved Quinn no matter how she dressed.

"I'm glad." The starlet tangled her fingers in pink hair and stood on her tiptoes, leaning up and pressing a gentle kiss to her lips.

Upon feeling soft lips pressed against her own, Quinn let out a humming noise of approval and closed her eyes. She placed her hands against Rachel's hips and pulled the shorter woman closer to her, their bodies pressed flush against one another. It was intoxicating and she could feel her body being overtaken by feelings.

She was almost ashamed by how easily the diva could turn her on. Sometimes a simple kiss could cause her knees to shake and a heat to form between her thighs. A need to be touched.

A few times she had thought about it, fantasized about throwing Rachel onto one of the sinks, spreading her toned legs open and kneeling between them.

"Mmm…" Quinn moaned into the kiss as she felt Rachel's tongue run along her bottom lip begging for entrance, which she hastily granted. Her clit was throbbing with need as she ran her hands down over her girlfriend's perfect ass toward her thighs. She was practically obsessed with Rachel's legs. They simply amazed her. She could not understand how someone who was so short could have legs that seemed to go on for miles.

Digging her nails into her thighs she lifted her up onto the edge of the sink and forced her way between her legs.

"Fuck." Rachel moaned out in pleasure, burrowing her nails into Quinn's scalp and pulling her closer.

Hearing the other woman curse caused her to shudder and the wetness between her thighs to intensify. It was such a rarity to hear her use profanities and it excited her. It excited her to know that it was her fault that she had done so. That she had driven her so crazy that she had no other way to express her desires.

"Is that so?" Quinn asked with a quirk of her brow. She had gotten a lot more confident with their make out sessions, and Rachel loved it.

A blush covered naturally tan cheeks and Rachel grinned. "Why yes, that is precisely what I would like for you to do to me, Quinn Fabray. I would like for you to fuck me right here and right now." She watched hazel eyes darken to a deep black and it caused her heart to swell with pride. It amazed her how easily she could arouse the beautiful woman. But, as badly as she wanted to sleep with her, she knew that the school was not the place for their first time.

"That could be arranged."

Rachel eyed her warily. "Quinn, I truly do want you, but you know that I wish for our first time to be special."

"I know." She groaned out. She was practically in pain with the arousal that she felt. Her heart was racing, her nipples were hard, her clit was throbbing, and she could smell Rachel's arousal as well. It was mesmerizing and she wanted to delve beneath her skirt and taste her. Just one taste and she was certain she would be content.

"I just really need you Rachel." She ran her nails up the inside of Rachel's thighs and gasped when her girlfriend let out a moan and her body shook uncontrollably. She just wanted to allow her fingers to travel the rest of the way under her skirt and to thrust deep inside of her.

'Calm down, Quinn… Think of something disgusting… Think of something aside from how it would feel to have Rachel's tight—oh sweet Jesus! What is wrong with me!?'

Quinn forced herself to pull away from Rachel. Her breathing ragged and her heart racing a million miles per hour. She couldn't believe how vulgar her thoughts had gotten over the last few months. It had to be all of the teasing and never getting the opportunity to please.

"I apologize, Quinn. I would just like to have our first time be romantic and beautiful. I am well aware of how badly you crave me, I crave you just the same, trust me." She wrapped her arms around her girlfriend's back from behind and rested her head against her shoulder smiling. "I just wish that you could attend Nationals. I had Mr. Schuester get me my own hotel room and I had hoped to plan a romantic evening with you."

"Rachel, you know what my parents said." She hated that she couldn't attend Nationals. Now more than ever. She was missing out on sharing one of the most intimate and special nights of her life with Rachel because of her parents.

"I am aware. But, I spoke with Mr. Schue and he said that he would make an exception and allow you to come to Nationals with us if your parents allowed you."

"My parents would never allow that." She muttered sadly.

Rachel pouted and unwrapped her arms from around Quinn's waist, walking around the other woman and staring up into her eyes with eyes full of wonder and want. Rachel had a set of eyes that she wore when she was talking about her dreams. They were full of drive, passion, want, need, and determination.

She admired that look.

"I know that your parents would never allow you to go to Nationals, but I just want you to go so badly! Can you imagine! Traveling to New York City together for the entirety of a weekend! It would be so magical and so romantic! We could attend a Broadway musical together, scope out apartment complexes for when we move there, we could plan our future together!" She couldn't hide her excitement.

And it wasn't fair for Quinn to expect her to hide her excitement. It sounded wonderful and she couldn't blame her for wanting all of that. She too wanted all of that. But, it really hurt her knowing that there was no way that she could go.

"I want that more than anything, Rach." Her voice cracked with emotion and her eyes filled with tears. "I really do." She breathed out.

O

Since Haley had left on tour, Brooke had thrown herself into anything that could possibly distract her from missing her. She spent many hours of her day working on her clothing line and hanging out with her friends. Although, Caroline had become preoccupied with a new group of kids that she was hanging out with, and Quinn was grounded, so she found herself actually spending most of her time with Rachel after school.

She felt ashamed that she never took the time to hang out with Rachel prior to them both being separated from their significant others, because she found that she really enjoyed the diva's company. After you got past her incessant need to talk about herself, she could be compassionate and caring and a surprisingly good listener.

The two of them were going through similar situations and it helped both of them to talk to each other.

Brooke could see the sorrow written across Rachel's face every time that she talked, and she knew that it matched her own. She no longer held her chin up high with confidence when she spoke and her eyes no longer glimmered with happiness and longing. She was depressed. Being forced to be apart from the woman that she loved was obviously breaking her heart.

They were both lonely and missing the women they loved and so they found happiness in spending time together. A lot of the time they didn't even really do much of anything, they just did nothing together. It was nice.

Currently, they were sitting and watching a romantic comedy while Rachel worked on her ideas for Nationals and Brooke worked on her newest designs.

"I just really miss Haley, you know?" Brooke asked with a furrow of her brow as she looked down at the newest dress she was working on. She had paid very little attention to the movie they were watching. Her mind was on Haley. "I mean it sucks what's going on with you and Q, but at least you guys get to like talk to each other at school and stuff. I barely ever get to talk to her. She's always so busy."

Rachel glanced over at the other woman and she offered her a sad smile as she realized that the cheerleader was visibly pouting. She understood what she was going through, and she felt terrible for her.

Brooke missed Haley every day and sometimes Rachel wondered if Haley missed any of them now that she was moving on with her life.

"I am very sorry to hear that you and Haley do not speak on a regular basis, Brooke." Rachel sympathized. She also missed her best friend. "Honestly, I too have missed her quite a lot since she has been gone. She hardly ever calls me now that she is on tour."

The starlet watched hazel eyes fill with sorrow and she reached out to place a comforting hand on Brooke's arm, giving it a gentle squeeze of reassurance. "I am very sorry though, Brooke. I cannot possibly begin to comprehend what you are going through, because you are correct. Quinn and I still for the most part speak on a daily basis. I cannot imagine what it must be like to speak with your significant other so irregularly."

Sometimes it still baffled Brooke that the diva used so many words to describe such simplistic things.

'But, I guess that's kinda part of her charm…' She thought with a dimpled grin.

When Rachel realized that she was just being negative she quickly added, "But, for the record, I know for a fact that she is missing you just as much as you are missing her."

"And how do you know that?" Brooke wondered disbelievingly.

"I know because—" Rachel paused and offered another reassuring squeeze to her arm. "—every single time that I speak with Haley on the telephone all that she can talk about is how badly she wants to be home spending time with you. She told me that when she is performing it does not mean as much to her because you are not in the crowd cheering her on."

"She really said that?" Her smile spread and her heart leapt. She needed to hear that. She needed to know that she was waiting for someone who still wanted her.

"Yes, she really said that." Rachel grinned. "Besides, Nationals are coming up and she said that she was coming back for the competition, correct?"

"She said that she was going to be back." She shrugged. "But now she doesn't know."

"What do you mean?" She wondered, her brows knit together in confusion.

"Their next tour date is set on the same night as Nationals and it's clear across the country. And I kinda told her that she should go and perform and not worry about trying to make it to the competition. I mean she sounded so excited about the concert! But, I miss her so freaking much, Rachel! It's killing me!" Brooke whined sadly. She hated that she felt selfish for asking her girlfriend to come home and see her.

Rachel hated seeing her friend hurting and in an attempt to comfort her, she announced, "I'm going to hug you now." Then she reached out and pulled the other woman into a tight embrace.

This contact was all that it took to cause Brooke Davis to break down.

It took a lot to break her. She didn't like to show her emotions to people or to cry in front of anyone. Her pride did not allow her to do so. It made her feel weak.

But, right now, wrapped up in Rachel's arms and the comfort of her body she allowed herself to break down and tears to fall freely into her shoulder. The starlet stroked Brooke's hair as she cried, whispering soft words of reassurance against her head.

O

Caroline wasn't acting the same anymore.

She had started to hang out with some new friends and they had been a huge influence on her behaviors. They had made her the lead singer of their underground punk band and she was changing a lot about herself in order to fit in with them.

Rebekah did not mind when Caroline had come home with pink in her blonde hair, black eyeliner on, a lip ring, a punk t-shirt, and skinny jeans. She had actually thought that the new look was rather attractive and she had promptly shown her such by throwing her on their bed and having her way with her. But, there was something about the other changes that she did not like. The emotional changes, not the physical.

Caroline was cursing a lot more. She got angry with just about everyone, she had started to vandalize things and steal from stores, and to be perfectly frank she had quite the attitude toward Rebekah as well. She had withdrawn from the blonde Brit and started to neglect their relationship a little bit in order to spend time with her new friends. She no longer cared about their friends or cheerleading, or even attending school at all.

Rachel had her conspiracy theories. She was thoroughly convinced that the punks were attempting to sabotage their glee club. That they had sought Caroline out, who was one of their best singers, and had taken her captive in hopes of thwarting their plans to win Nationals.

Of course, that more than likely was not the case.

Rebekah chewed on her full bottom lip as she waited for her girlfriend to show up for the bus they were taking to New York. Caroline was late and she was starting to get worried that she wouldn't show up because she was now too "cool" for glee club or something. It hurt a lot thinking that she would leave her friends and her girlfriend out in the cold.

"Where on earth is your girlfriend?" Rachel wondered frantically, walking up to the blonde with a worried expression on her face. "Does she not understand that if we are to have any chance of winning this competition we need her voice?! We are already missing two of our best voices since Haley and Quinn are not present, the last thing that we need is to be missing Caroline as well."

"I have no idea where she is—"

"—I do!" She interrupted adamantly. "I knew that those kids were simply attempting to distract her from the importance of the New Directions in an attempt to—"

"—there she is." Rebekah nodded her head in the direction of Caroline who was making her way across the parking lot toward them.

She was wearing dark makeup around her eyes, she had her hair straightened and styled up, her shirt was a black t-shirt with the name of a band scribbled across it that could not be deciphered, and she had on black skinny jeans and converse. In between her lips was a cigarette that she was puffing on nonchalantly. That was a habit that she had picked up from her new friends. Rebekah was not really a fan of the habit. She missed the sweet taste of Caroline's lips that she loved.

Caroline walked over to Rachel and Rebekah and she eyed the short brunette who was looking at her like she had gone insane. She was probably worried about the way that smoking would affect her voice in the competition. "You got a problem?"

"I was simply worried. You are underage and it is right before a competition, do you really think that you should be smoking?"

She laughed. She knew that was her only concern. "I think I'll be fine."

Caroline grinned and walked past Rachel toward Rebekah, wrapping her arms around her waist and leaning in to kiss her passionately on the lips. Despite the taste of cigarettes on her tongue, the British woman moaned into the kiss and leant into it. She loved kissing her. No matter what she looked like or how she acted, but there was a part of her missing the old Caroline.

"Be my bus buddy?" Caroline asked with a raised brow and a devious grin.

"Certainly." Rebekah smirked and allowed her girlfriend to drag her onto the bus.

Rachel watched as the two of them headed onto the bus, her brow furrowed in complete confusion. She could not believe what was happening to their friends. It was like they were all changing and moving in opposite directions. None of them spent any time together any more. She knew that it was natural progression to try new things and to change up your style, but she couldn't help but feel like she was losing everyone.

With a glance in Brooke's direction as she headed onto the bus, she knew that she was feeling exactly the same way.

O

"Okay, Quinnie! We are heading out!" Quinn's mother said with a smile on her face. They were heading out for a business trip over the weekend and they felt safe leaving their daughter home alone knowing that the glee club would be gone all weekend.

"We trust that you will stay inside and not disobey any of the rules that we have set for you." Her father added with a stern look on his face.

"Of course." 'What would be the point of disobeying anyway…? All of my friends and my girlfriend are out of town…' She thought to herself.

"If you have any contact with that girl we will find out and you will be punished."

"Understood." She spoke through grit teeth.

"Alright. Have a nice weekend sweetie! We love you." Her mother said, taking a step toward her and wrapping her up in a tense hug. Quinn had never felt less comfortable hugging her mother. A part of her hated her for not understanding what she was going through, for not standing up against her father's harsh words and punishments and acting like everything was fine. It infuriated her.

"I love you too." She forced a smile and watched as her parents walked out the front door.

After they left Quinn took a seat on the couch and stared up at the clock hanging on the wall. She knew that Rachel and her friends had headed toward New York City on the bus that morning and that they were probably already halfway there. She recalled the conversation that she had with her girlfriend in the bathroom and it caused her chest to tighten painfully. She wanted to share a hotel room together and have their first time together be special and romantic. She wanted to plan their lives together and walk the city streets with Rachel.

She wanted to be there with her.

Quinn picked away at her fingernails as she watched the clock intently. Imagining what it would be like to watch Rachel Berry skip along the streets of New York City with a large excited grin on her face. How enthusiastic she would be to attend her first Broadway production and how she wanted to be there to see it.

Biting down on her cheeks she stood to her feet and walked across the room to grab her car keys off of the hook. She stared down at them desperately. Knowing that her parents had left them there so that they could see if she could be trusted.

'They will never trust me again if I do this…'

She started to pace, staring down at the keys and moving them around in her hands. She knew that if she left early she could be back before they would even know what happened. There was no reason that she could not make it to New York and back before they returned.

Finally, she walked across the room and grabbed her jacket and then headed out the front door.
