Finchstar sat above Jagged Peak, watching the Clan. She heard a rumbling from afar, badgers the scent hit her nose with a pang. She leaped towards the Camps center, and stood tall. "Badgers attacking!" she yowled out. The Clan immediately rose from their spots, and dashed over, watching as the badgers lumbered into Camp, growling. Finchstar reared up on her paws, slashing at a badgers nose with a hiss. The badger snarled and slammed its paw at her head. The Clan was enraged, fur bristling, leaping at the badgers with claws extended. They tore at each other, claws ripping fur and flesh. Blood spattered the ground, and it surely wasn't badger blood.

Finchstar's eyes flashed with a glimmer of anger. She lashed out a paw and flailed it at the badgers face, finally, clenching its eye and tearing it out. It wailed as it dropped and twitched on the ground, Finchstar slashed its throat open and killed it before bounding towards the others. Her gaze caught on Spottedfur, who was stuck under a fallen tree. Tackled down by a couple badgers. She darted towards the deputy, and nudged the tree rapidly. "It's not worth it, Finchstar. My legs are caught in debris, and I wouldn't be able to get out either way." She winced at more pain, her eyes clouding. A couple badgers strode up towards the tree, stomping up to them. "I wont leave you," Finchstar snapped, pulling the tree away from her back. Spottedfur yelped and writhed around, just as the badgers reached them. Mossfire leaped forward, pushing Finchstar away just as the badgers threw the tree off of Spottedfur. The wounded deputy let out a yowl of agony as the debris lifted from underneath her legs. The badgers each grabbed her body, and tugged at her as if in a fight. They all clenched her in their jaws and carried her off.

Finchstar watched in shock, before turning to Mossfire. "Why did you do that?! I still had time!" she hissed under her breath. "You didn't. You were going to get yourself killed, as well as Spottefur."

Finchstar flinched, thinking to what they were doing now to the living Spottedfur. "Fine. You're right." Her eyes glimmered with sorrow and she rose to her paws, searching around for a cat in urgent need of help. She leaped away from Mossfire, and towards Aspenlight, who was fighting bravely with a badger on his own. Finchstar leaped to his side, raking her claws down the badgers side. It growled and swung its paw into her body. She dodged and leaped onto it's back, throwing it to the ground easily. Aspenlight helped, both of them tussling with the badger until it lay limp under their paws. Finchstar glanced around, seeing Creekfur was fighting alongside Ripplepaw, beating every badger in sight.

Finchstar watched as the badgers fled, some dead on the ground. They all took off quickly and left the Clan cats stranded in Camp, surrounded by fallen trees and branches, as well as some badger bodies, and cats as well. Finchstar frowned, it's my fault Spottedfur died. I could have saved her. Finchstar's ears flattened against her head, and she trudged towards her den.

"Finchstar! You have to choose a deputy, remember? Before moon-high." Mossfire murmured from Finchstar's side. "Yes, I remember." Finchstar meowed, her whiskers twitching. She leaped upon Jagged Peak and called together the Clan. "Spottedfur has died, sadly. But she died bravely. Fighting alongside her Clan until the time of the badgers killing her." Finchstar gulped, her eyes clouding. "Spottedfur's" kits immediately flattened their ears against their head. Poor kits. Both their mother and father died. Finchstar shook her head slowly, eyes glimmering with sadness. "I wish I could have saved her, but there was no time." Her eyes were blank as she turned her gaze to Mossfire, who nodded. "In her memory, we will name a new deputy on the day she has died. My new deputy will be Aspenlight." Finchstar announced, before leaping down from Jagged Peak, and into her den. The thought hit her with a pang of remembrance, Aspenlight had never gotten an apprentice before.
