I'm so very glad you all are still enjoying this story! Thank you so much for the continued support and your thoughts on the last chapter! Keep them coming! I want to know how I'm doing! Here's the next, and I will try my very best to have another one up asap for you all.
The two separated, yet neither wanted to let go.
"You should get ready for bed," Maura commented. She couldn't for Jane to join her in their bed so that she could mold her body against the detective's. She wanted, yearned to put her head to Jane's chest and fall asleep to her beating heart the way she occasionally did. She knew that being a detective, especially working in homicide came with its risks. She had known what her heart was getting into when she and Jane started seeing one another; yet there were just times when she felt like it was too much. She felt like she couldn't handle not being able to protect Jane and keep her safe. It was times like those that she felt she needed Jane close the most; as if by keeping her close would anchor her to their world and keep her in their happy universe.
"Yeah, give me a minute Maur, I'll be right back," Jane replied as she began to take off her jacket and step into the closet. She had really wanted to take a shower, but she knew the moment she let go of Maura's hand that she wasn't going to be doing that tonight. She felt the need, the urgency come off Maura in waves. She would be lying to herself if she said that she didn't need her too. She quickly changed into a pair of shorts and t-shirt and made her way back to the bed; Maura was anxious and waiting.
Jane got in the bed and was instantly met with Maura's body and lips on her own. No, tonight wouldn't be about sex; the kiss spoke to her more than that. Tonight was about reassurance, about both of them knowing they were there for the other. Jane returned the kiss softly but with fervor. She held Maura tight and breathed her in; there was no better smell to her in the world. The kiss came to an end, and Jane rested her forehead against Maura's as she regained her breath.
"I want to come with you," Maura spoke quietly. "To see Hoyt. I want to be there to make sure you're ok."
Jane shook her head almost instantly. "No Maur; you can't. I don't want you there. That would be putting you in danger and I am not going to allow that. I'll be fine; Korsak and Frost are going with me and Hoyt will be restrained. He can't hurt me; not anymore."
"Something is off about this Jane. Something doesn't quite fit. I don't feel comfortable with you going. Can I at least accompany you and wait in your car? I want to see you as soon as you're done."
Jane sighed softly and thought about Maura's proposition. "I still don't think it's a good idea Maur, but you can wait in the car if you'd like. I don't want you anywhere near that man. Believe me, if it wasn't for the fact that he may still be accountable for more murders, I wouldn't see him either. This is something I have to do not just for the safety of our city, but for myself. I have to face him. I'm not afraid of him, and this is going to help me put him in the past."
"It's settled then, I'm coming with you and will wait until you're done."
Jane nodded silently before kissing Maura once more. She wrapped her arms around the smaller woman as Maura rested her head against Jane's chest and tried to settle the thoughts in her brain enough to get some sleep.
Both women had a bit of trouble getting up the following morning. Though Maura was used to a crazy schedule, she hadn't been able to get any sleep. She'd spent the night worrying about what was going to happen the following day; she knew that Jane hadn't gotten any sleep either. They were robotic in their morning routine as they got ready to head to the prison. A quick breakfast and drive later, Jane parked her car in the prison parking lot and turned her attention to Maura who sat on the passenger seat.
"Are you sure you still want to wait?" Jane asked tentatively.
"I'm positive Jane. I won't be at ease until I see you come out those doors again. Please, please be careful."
Maura took a hold of Jane's hands and held them in her own. "He doesn't have power over you anymore Jane. He's in the past. Don't let him in." She brought the brunette's hands to her mouth and gave them a tender kiss. "Just be safe. I'll be here waiting."
Jane gave Maura what she hoped was a convincing smile. "I'll be back as soon as I can. I love you Maur."
"I love you too, Jane."
Jane exited the car and headed to the entrance where she met Frost and Korsak. They were through the usual security procedures, giving up their guns in the process. The warden met them before they got past security.
"Detectives," he said, a cold demeanor to his attitude.
"Is he ready for us?" Jane asked as she waited expectantly for the warden to lead the way.
"He's been brought into a separate room where you can see him, yes. He is restrained and waiting."
"Great, thank you."
Another officer lead them down a long corridor and into another part of the building. They came to a stop outside a thick metal door. The guard made a gesture at a camera and the door was unlocked seconds after.
"You got 15 minutes," he said to the detectives.
"15 minutes?! This isn't a visit for pleasure! It's a police matter!" Jane rose her voice, angry at the limitation set.
"Take it up with the warden," the guard replied shortly before turning and leaving them at the door.
"Damnit," she muttered under her breath.
"You don't have to do this Jane; you can still back out. Wait here, Frost and I will handle him," Korsak to her gently.
"I'm not turning back Korsak. Let's do this,"
Korsak pushed the door open to reveal Charles Hoyt sitting before a table, shackled to a chair. He was flanked by two security guards.
The prisoner disregarded everyone else in the room and the other detectives coming; he solely focused his attention on Jane. He made direct eye contact and slowly sneered, making chills run down Jane's spine.
"Hello, Jane," he said as an excited look graced his features. "You came to see me!"
I really don't like Hoyt. I'm taking my time with this next chapter because I want to do their encounter justice! I already know how the chapter is going to end, I just have to get there;) Tell me what you Think and I'll have the nexo chapter posted around noon tomorrow!:)
