Omigosh? Leopard posted another chapter?
Yes, yes I did.
Sadly, I was kind of debating whether to continue or not. Only three reviews since last time D;
It's sad.
Oh well. Let's hope for the best this chapter. Annndd, I think that the readers that do like my story deserve an explanation as to why I post chapters so late. So, here goes: My computer/lap-top has broken down and every time I turn it back on it heats up. I regularly use my parents computers or my school's computers when I can. I will be receiving a new laptop soon. Probably along the time of this week. Thus, I've decided that I will force myself to write a new chapter to this story not another every week. So, probably every Saturday a new chapter will be posted. If not, I may post chapters whenever I feel like writing. Anyways, yeah, so, I'll stop wasting your time :3.
Hope you enjoy!
Forestkit crept out of the nursery, eyes growing wide. The sun shined over the trees, splashing at his pelt like water. The lingering scent of fresh grass stung in his nose, but he found it refreshing and sweet. Forestkit grinned and padded over to the rest of his litter mates. They all played together, chattering like starlings, tail flicking back and forth altogether in a beat. Forestkit's eyes caught on Jaykit, who strung back from everyone. It made sense, though. She was only a friend to Cinderkit and no one else. Forestkit shifted over, and poked Jaykit when he got near to the she-cat. She flinched, and Forestkit whipped backwards, unbeknownst to the fact that she had been deep in thought. Jaykit hissed under her breath, and glanced to Forestkit. "I was in the middle of something!" She snapped, rather harsh. Forestkit's ears flattened against his head, and his eyes widened. "What are you talking about?" He asked, trying to ignore the fact that she almost attacked him out of anger.
"...Nothing," Jaykit finally answered, her voice in a hushed whisper. Forestkit cocked his head, growing confused. "Er... Alright," He mumbled.
Jaykit gazed out into the Camp grounds, faint whispers escaping her mouth. Forestkit strained to hear what Jaykit was saying, but found it inaudible. He sat backwards, flopping onto his back. "So... How are you?" He asked, trying to start conversation. Eerie silence sent chills up his spine. His litter mates had stopped speaking, the sky had gone black and Rainstar paced outside of her den. Forestkit scrambled to his paws. "Uh... Jaykit?" He asked, trotting to her side.
"Shush!" Yellowberry-the elder-snapped, exiting the elders den and halting nearby.
Forestkit bit his tongue, forcing himself not to say more. He slipped swiftly over to Rainstar, watching her shakily, through wide eyes. She muttered things under her breath, and what Forestkit had overheard seemed to be spat out like it was dung. Forestkit crept behind a tree, watching Rainstar who was a fox-length away. Forestkit tried to listen, and continued to hear the same things over and over again.
"She will die... She must! Crossflame will be exiled... Not yet, though. I must gain the Clan's trust..." Rainstar repeated continuously.
Forestkit felt frozen solid. The blood in his veins seemed to stop, and his heart beat grew quick. His mother? Being exiled? He thought his litter mates had been joking! No way could this be real! Lionshade could have been joking with Crossflame, right? No. This was real. And Forestkit had to wait and find out what would happen. He just had to wait.
Five Moons Later
By now the kits had grown into apprentices for a moon, now. Forestkit-now Forestpaw-had become one of the close friends of Jaypaw. Forestpaw dropped to a crouch, stalking closer to Jaypaw as silent as he could be. His haunches wriggled as he got near, when he suddenly gave a battle-cry and leaped onto Jaypaw. She yelped, not realizing it was Forestpaw, slowly figuring it out, afterwards. She grinned and swiftly rolled over, pinning down Forestpaw.
"Pinned ya!" She announced, just as Forestpaw flipped her back over and pinned her down.
"Pinned ya back!" Forestpaw beamed.
Jaypaw smiled, leaving Forestpaw to thinking he had won, while he stepped one foot away. Just as Jaypaw twisted over and pounced back onto Forestpaw.
"HIYA!" She yowled, slamming him to the ground as gently as she could.
The two apprentices broke into laughter, rolling over to each others side. Just as they grew calm, Jaypaw's mentor, Applesap, leaped down from a tree nearby, scaring the two seven-moon-old's to their paws.
"Well done, kits," She meowed.
"We're not kits," Jaypaw frowned.
"Right... Apprentices." Applesap shrugged.
Jaypaw grinned, and glanced to Forestpaw, who was puffing his chest out with pride.
"To learn real training, you can come with me. Forestpaw, you're mentor is waiting for you at the training center. We're going their now. Come on," Applesap told them in complete monotone and padded away from the apprentices, leaving them to follow from behind. Winterpaw raced over, breathing heavily. "I was running!" She exclaimed. "I'm fast!"
"Mmmhmmm," Applesap muttered from ahead.
Forestpaw rolled his eyes. "Yeah, you are." He smiled. Winterpaw was born the last, and she was very skinny and frail. She was treated differently by the rest of the Clan, but Forestpaw made an attempt to be fair and act normal towards Winterpaw. His efforts were working, and Winterpaw seemed to grow happier than ever in the Clan. She didn't like fights, and tried to stay out of everything that could attack her, but was a great dodger. She stayed a warrior apprentice, though, which was fairly weird.
Forestpaw knew that although Winterpaw was always bothered by other cats in the Clan, Winterpaw continued to trust him.
At least he had one litter mate that would be kind to him.
One was just enough.
