Chapter 18
Bella's POV
Mon Ciel! I know enough French to understand what Edward said. I feel lightheaded every time he says or writes in French. I lay my phone over the nightstand and I'm off to dreamland. I find it hard to sleep; I guess I'm too excited for tonight's events. My mind wonders around. Who would have thought one month ago that I'd be that happy with Edward? Everything has happened so fast. A month ago I didn't have a boyfriend, in fact I was desperate to terminate my life. But that attempt led me to Edward. If first impressions were that important, Edward would have never considered me as his couple. After all, who would want a suicide girlfriend?
I have to stop listening to myself and start picturing me with other eyes. Edward has proven to be what I needed and he has shown me he'll be there for me no matter what. I can't believe he still decided to date me after the bath incident. If the first attempt didn't scare him the second attempt would had, but not Edward. He's determined to safe my life and soul. What boy wouldn't have succumbed to my affections and readiness? Because I was ready to broke my promise to wait to get married before having sex. I was ready to be with Edward.
After a delightful day at school ―which I thought impossible to exist― I'm heading home with Edward. I miss driving but I can't complaint, I love every minute with my boyfriend even if that means not driving anymore. We have an unscheduled stop at the gas station; Edward wants to make sure we don't have a flat tire. I'm left waiting in the car while he checks the pressure in the tires. I can't help but notice some girls eyeing Edward while he's bending down, I know I would do the same. It used to bother me but now I just ignore them, after all he's with me and no one else.
While we're at the gas station a familiar car stops to buy some groceries at the mini market. Rosalie Hale looking as a runway model comes out of her car escorted by her gorgeous boyfriend Emmett. The last exchanges a conspiring glance with Edward, who acknowledges with a nod. I wonder what that was. Edward then enters the car and tells me he wants to show me a café in town that serves the most delicious brownies in Forks. Who would have thought he loved brownies? Not me. In fact, I realized there're many things I ignored about him. He in the other hand seems to know a lot about me. I guess I need to start investigating more. I'll give Alice a call.
Minutes later we're in the famous café. The walls are light brown with some beige waves, which elicits the spirals found in the milk foam of cappuccinos. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, I can picture myself reading for hours in one of the comfy divans.
"This place is fantastic Edward. How did you find it?"
"A friend recommended me the place and I thought you'll like it too."
"I love it! It's unique, one of a kind. From now on we should come at least once a week to this place." I put my arms around Edward's neck and give him a peck on the lips.
"I'm glad you like it and on that note there's something I have to confess." He directs us to a vacant love seat. He holds one of my hands and starts rubbing it with one finger.
"What is it Edward? Is everything alright?"
"I hope so. I don't want you to be mad at me."
"Why would I be mad at you? You've done nothing wrong, have you?"
"Technically not yet."
"Not yet? What does that mean?"
"You'll get it in a minute." He calls the waiter and asks for an espresso con panna and the mandatory brownie. I have the same.
Right on cue, Rosalie and Emmett enter the café. She doesn't seem impressed with the place, I guess she's been in better places. I don't know if I'm being paranoid but it'd seem that they are stalking us. First the gas station and now the café. And to increase my suspicion they pass an empty couch and seem to be heading in our direction. Edward's rubbing on my hand gets faster and faster, a sign that he's nervous. Is that what he was talking about?
"Edward is there something that you want to explain?" I don't get a response from him, because the second I finish talking Emmett and Rosalie are standing in front of us. Rosalie looks mad, she isn't the only one.
"Babe please, listen to what we have to say." Emmett and Edward's pleading eyes share a remarkable resemblance.
"I can't believe you brought me to this low end place to meet with them." Rosalie is furious and she lashes out with a waitress. "What are you looking at?!"
I'm pissed off. I won't be able to trust Edward again; I can't believe he tricked me like this. I start gathering my stuff but I'm stopped by Edward.
"Bella, please. Don't go, I know you're upset and you'll probably won't talk to me again, but you need to listen to what we have to say." My heart is pounding hard against my ribs, I'm livid.
"First of all, upset is an understatement, I'm beyond upset but what is worst I'm disappointed at you. I can't believe you've set me up. I trusted you, Edward. Now, I don't know if I'll be able to trust you again." I'm so angry that I want to cry, but I won't cry, not in front of Rosalie Hale.
"You have to talk, then talk. Don't make me waste more time in this crappy place." Rosalie is determined to dig a hole thru the carpet with her heel.
"As you know we're both new in town and we have recently started a relationship with both of you. We know there's a history with you two, but we want you to let that behind and start a new chapter in your lives. It's time for you to move on." Edward's earnest tone is almost compelling, if it wasn't the fact that Rosalie has made my life a living hell, I would do what he has said.
Emmett continues talking. "Yes, as my bro was saying, it would be easier for our family if you get along. After all, you'll be seeing each other often."
"Wait a minute, what did you just said? 'Our family' what's that about?"
"Yes, what's that about? You don't have the same last name." That's something I assume, I don't know Emmett's last name.
"For the school, not. But we do have the same last name; it's just a clerical mistake. My last name is not Callen, it's Cullen, but apparently when they filled the documents they put an 'a' instead of a 'u'. They're working to correct it." Emmett states.
I'm speechless, I didn't know Edward have a brother. I didn't see a picture of Emmett in the Cullen's house. Alice hasn't mentioned Emmett either. "But how come there wasn't a single picture of Emmett in your house last night?"
"I know I should have said something along time ago, but I never got the chance to tell you Emmett was my big brother and the same happened to Emmett. We knew you and Rosalie didn't have a good relation and we didn't want to interfere with it. We thought it wasn't that bad, but with time we realized it was very bad. And our relationships are getting more serious and it was time for you to know the truth."
I have to sit down to ponder this information.
