WHEN WE WERE KIDS

CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN

"What's that?" I asked.

"This? It's a special dagger. You should know it of all people, Lucy." Mokarov said. Natsu got up, and took it, before turning to me. I watched him as he lifted up my top, and held the blade close to my skin, where my scars were.

"I think... this is the knife that caused your scars. For some reason, I think someone did this before." He said, taking the knife away.

"I don't remember anything..." I said.

"This knife, it's special, it leaves traces, that are permanently etched out through time. Lorces, we call them. Those scars, they're Lorces." Silver said.

"How do you know?" I asked.

"To check, we need three elements, the dagger, the result, and the consequence. We have the dagger, the result, and for the consequence, what do you do when something hurts?" Mokarov asked.

"You swear." Natsu replied.

"Hmm...something more childish."

"You cry." I said.

"Yes. And we had your tears. Put all three together, and I'll show you, if you cry." Silver said. I tried to make myself cry, but instead, I just felt someone kick me sharply from underneath the table.

"Gah, shit!" I said, holding my shin.

"Told you." Natsu said.

"Sorry, get's thing's done quicker, that's all." Mokarov said.

"You. Don't. Say." I said, as I cradled my shin. My eyes were still completely dry, until I felt another kick on my other shin. "Fuck!" I swore that time.

"See? Swearing is much more likely than tears." Natsu added.

"Lucy!" Silver exclaimed.

"Aren't you crying yet?" Mokarov asked, then sighed.

"Kicking doesn't make me cry, hold on." I said, a part of my mind nagging me to kick him back. I pinched the corner of my eye, really digging my nails in, till finally a tear rolled out. Silver took the dagger, and held it underneath my eye. The tear caught on it. It glowed a blue silver light, I heard myself gasp, and Natsu. She raised my top, and my scars were glowing the same colour.

"What the-?!" Natsu said.

"But...I can't even feel anything..." I mumbled, tracing the scars. The light was so strange...

"Don't choose the wrong..."

"Woah!" I said, as I blinked.

"What?" Natsu asked, putting a hand on my shoulder. I closed my eyes tight shut, and reopened them. I shook my head.

"Nothing, I think..." I started, but shook my head again.

"So, this has all happened before..." Natsu said.

"Yes. We felt the strange magic when Mokarov became the master of Fairy Tail, he obtained a powerful magic, so he could feel magic energies more powerfully. He felt the power the day Lucy came." Silver said.

"I'm still confused..."

"I'll try and explain everything the best I can." Mokarov said to me. "When I became the master of Fairy Tail, I could feel magic stronger. Once, I was walking through a forest, to be precise, the forest where I found you." He said, pointing to Natsu. "I sensed a strange magical power, so I went there, and I found myself at a clearing. On each tree, there was a sequence of scratches on the bark, and they all were the same as the sequence on your abdomen, Lucy. I kept coming back, until I found this, at the bottom of one of the trees." He said, pointing to the dagger. "I did some research on the magic there, and found nothing, apart from this." He said, and took a letter out of his pocket. "It's old, be careful with it. It was Masking Magic, that was part of the energy I felt." He said. He handed it to Natsu.

"Why are you passing this to me?" He asked.

"It's addressed to you." He said. Natsu looked confused at him. Under the table, I took his hand, and squeezed it. He stroked his thumb across it. He took the letter, and opened it.

"To Natsu, my...my son." He read. "It's from the father I can't remember?"

"The adoptive father you can't remember. Go on, read." Mokarov said.

"To Natsu, my son. I'm sorry I have to make this letter so brief, but we don't have long. Your brother is coming, and god knows what he will do. One day you'll understand why I chose you, not him. I'm waiting for you, you know where, when your brother will be taken care off. I'll see you soon. From your father, Igneel... My dad's name is Igneel..." Natsu said.

"Mm. So, in the previous time circle, you must of met your father, and this 'brother'"

"I don't understand? I've never had a brother, and what does he mean by choosing me over him?" Natsu asked. I heard a light shake in his voice. He was worried, annoyed, and slightly scared. I could understand him, not having any memory of his past two families, having a rival brother, and discovering all of this at once, naturally, anyone would be scared.

"We don't know. But Natsu, this is important. He says 'you know where' in his letter. Do you have any idea where he means?" Mokarov asked.

"...no, none at all." Natsu replied, putting his hands through his hair.

"We need to find a way to stop this time loop. You two are the key to that. Do you understand? This is the most important thing you will probably ever do, you need to realise the responsibility." Silver said. Natsu got up.

"Yeah..I...I just need too...just...stop, a second..." he said, he seemed ill, dizzy. He walked away, through the front door.

"Tell me what we need to do." I said.

After fifteen minutes of talking and planning, I walked out of my house. The sun was getting lower in the sky, autumn was here. The warmth of summer was slowly going. I wrapped my arms around me, to try and keep warm. I walked along the road, going to Lily bridge.

"Hey." I said, as I walked into the small clearing. Natsu was sitting down by the water. He turned his head.

"Why today..." he said, as I sat down next to him. He leant against my shoulder, and I brushed my hand through his hair.

"Ah...you're always so warm..." I smiled, putting my arms around him. "Natsu..." I said, hugging him.

"Why today. everything was so perfect... I had you, closer than ever, I had a beutifull day, I had... but no." He said, and I heard his voice crack.

"It can still be on, this minute, let's just forget everything, everything apart from us two." I said, facing him. He smiled at me.

"You're incredible, ya' know? You can make anyone happy." He said, stroking my cheek, I clutched his hand to it.

"Hey Natsu?" I said.

"Hmm?"

"Do you remember that time when we went up on the mountain, and it was raining?" I asked. He smiled, and nodded. "That's when I was sure I loved you." I said. He smiled.

"Remember when I told you I loved you?" He asked.

"I won't forget, the harvest moon, it was bright, and we were on a cliff, and you were so cute..." I said, and kissed him. He held me closer, and held the nape of my neck. I held his hand. He clutched me closer.

"I don't want to remember..." he said, when we broke apart. He closed his eyes tight.

"Hey, hey..." I said, as he collapsed onto my arm. I patted his head, and stroked his hair.

"Why can't this be our first time? Why can't we even remember out first time? It isn't fair! Why us..." he said. I felt him shudder, as a sob escaped his lips.

"I know, but hey, it may not be our first time, but it's still us. we've had a first time doing everything, confessing our love for each other, training our magic, everything, this is a bonus, look at it that way..." I said. He hugged me hard.

"Who am I..." he asked. Ouch. That question hurt. I put myself in his shoes. An unknown biological father, un unknown adoptive father, an unknown brother, five years of his life missing from him... he had lost himself. He wasn't sure where he came from. Hell, he want sure if he was human. I wasn't good at answering philosophical questions, but this was Natsu, he would understand whatever nonsense came from my mouth.

"You know who you are, you are you. You are Natsu. You decide who you are, it's not the people around you who decide for you. The fact that you can't remember your past make you you, the fact you've had at least three fathers makes you you. All these questions you have, they are you. You're Natsu, aren't you?" I said. He lifted his head. Silent tears were slowly dripping from his eyes. He stared at me, before flashing his grin. That grin. "That's you, right there, that grin." I added, with a laugh. He laughed as well.

"I guess... My god, I love you." He said, with a sigh.

"That's you as well. I hope, unless you've been lying about loving me every time you've said it, and you just wanted me for last night." I teased. He chuckled.

"Now now, we both know that I'm definitely not the type who would give a girl I'm not even dating a love bite, right?" He laughed.

"Pervert, well, that's you too. Who are you?" I asked him, as he placed kisses on my cheek.

"Natsu Dragneel. Fifteen years old. Student at Fairy High. Adoptive grandson or son of Mokarov Dreyar. Pervert. Idiot. Wizard. Better than Gray. And maybe clever." He said, with each word a kiss on my cheek.

"That's the most honest you've been in a while." I laughed.

"Also not a virgin." He added.

"Yeah yeah...don't yell about it. Are you okay now?" I asked, as I stroked away a stray tear that had stayed.

"Much better. Thanks, Lucy..." he said, approaching his lips closer to mine. Oh, so it was going to be one of those kisses... those long ones, with such a strong meanning behind... he gently placed his lips on mine, his warmth sending tingling sensations down my spine. He smelled so nice... a smell so distinct... I felt his lips force mine open slightly, and our breaths mixed, our heart beats matching, our bodies working in sync. Then our tongues, I remember thinking that kissing with tongues was disgusting, but honestly, it was amazing. When you kiss with tongues, 'a la française', our heart races, you become jelly waist down, your thoughts lose themselves, your breathing becomes quicker, and everything around you is lost... then the intention behind our kiss. We were searching for each other's comfort, reassuring each other, telling one another that we were there, safe, and staying... that's what I loved about kissing, it's got so much variety. From the small ones that are for fun, to the ones that are hungry for more. We tore apart, ever so slightly out of breath.

"Never leave me." He said. It made me confused, why would I leave him..?

"Never." I said, despite my previous thoughts.

"So. Tell me everything about this whole messed up business." He said.
