Sunlight filtered through the canvas tent. Merida buried her face deeper into her pillow and let out a low grumble. Suddenly her pillow rumbled and she was jostled out of her fuzzy, half asleep state. She pushed herself up on her forearms and instantly flushed. That wasn't her pillow.
"Good morning." Hiccup chirped, a giant smile gracing his chiseled face. His hair was defying gravity, and there were dried drool stains on the corners of his mouth. Merida felt her heartbeat quicken. She swore, if he could hear it she'd pitch herself off the side of The Fire Falls.
"'Mornin'" Merida muttered, still flushed. Hiccup shook his head and Merida felt something tighten around her waist. She looked down to find Hiccup's arm wrapped around her and his hand resting on her hip.
'When'd that get there?' Merida thought to herself. She chewed her bottom lip. 'When did A become so nervous?' A small voice in the back of her head echoed, 'When yah started talking to him yah div(idiot).' Merida scrunched up her face and looked up into the green eyes that made her heart melt. He looked at her expectantly and she realized that he had asked her a question.
"What did yah say? Am ur sorry. A was thinkin' about something." Hiccup smiled.
"I asked what you want to do today. Are you up for training Bonnie?"
"Yes!" Merida shot up and Hiccup laughed. Merida went behind the curtain to get dressed. She stepped out, wearing a Viking like ensemble. She wore light brown, fuzzy low rise boots and dark brown pants that clung to her legs, and a dark grey armored skirt like the one Astrid wears. A thick, light brown belt wrapped around her waist with Emerald spikes jutting off of it. She wore a long sleeved blue green shirt that was tucked under her belt and brown arm guards. Grey shoulder armor glinted in the light. She clutched her bow in one hand and her quiver hung from her hand behind her back. She smiled at Hiccup, a small flush under the constellation of freckles that dusted her cheeks and nose. Hiccup smiled and walked up to her.
"You're beautiful…" He whispered huskily. Then he did the unthinkable. His lips crashed against hers. Merida was stunned for a second, but soon her lips melted against his and she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. Hiccup buried his hands in her hair, slightly gripping it. Merida let out a soft moan and she pressed against him and he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist. They were so lost in each other they didn't notice when they wound up on the blankets that served as their bed. Hiccup lay over Merida, lips still connected. He kissed the edge of her mouth and slowly made his way down her shoulder, fallowing the path of freckles. He made it to her shoulder and lightly nipped, causing Merida to let out a loud moan. Hiccup took a ragged breath and made his way back to her lips, but Merida wasn't going to have any of that. She sat up quickly and pushed him down on his back, lips never parting. Hiccup's eyes widened but they soon closed in delight when Merida nipped her way down his neck. He let out a low, guttural moan and Merida smiled against his skin. She made her way slowly up his neck and kissed her way across her collarbone and up the other side. Hiccup took a ragged breath as she found a spot, just under his ear, that drove him crazy. Hiccup sat up, panting, and looked at Merida's flushed face as she breathed deeply.
"I- I think we should stop." Hiccup breathed out between pants. Merida nodded her head and they both rose to their feet. Merida traced circles on the ground with the toes of her shoes. Hiccup smiled and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Don't think you did anything wrong okay? It's just… if we kept going I don't know what would have happened. And I don't want to rush into anything. I want to treat you right." Merida looked up at him, eyes sparkling with unshed tears. It was like he read her mind.
"A just… A know Hiccup." Hiccup placed a soft kiss on her forehead then the tip of her nose, which caused her to giggle slightly.
"Now come on, it's time to train your dragon." Hiccup said, and he placed his old helmet on Merida's head.

Hours had passed and Merida had gotten to know Bonnie. She was strange, she liked eels. She didn't like water, as it caused her head feathers to go wonky. Her feathers helped her feel drops in pressure and helped her sense movements around her. She preferred to be in trees than on the ground. She ate rabbits and animals like that more than she did fish, which might cause a problem with living on an island. There was a spot on her side she loved to have scratched. She was mild-mannered, but had a big attitude. It was her way, or the highway. Which made Hiccup believe that this dragon was truly Merida's dragon. They were meant to find each other.

Now the sun was beginning to set, and Merida had Bonnie's trust.
"Now, try and see if she'll let you mount her." Merida bit her lip and nodded her head. She placed a soft hand on Bonnie's forehead and slowly dragged it around her head. She whispered to Bonnie. Slowly and deliberately, Merida climbed onto Bonnie's back. The dragon turned around and looked back at Merida. Merida patted Bonnie's back and scratched the spot on her side. Bonnie purred in content and Merida smiled. Hiccup got on Toothless, and stood him by Bonnie, who was a head taller. Merida looked down at Hiccup and he nodded. He shot up into the sky, still under the tops of the trees.
"Come on Bonnie! Let's go! Uhmm…" She bit her lip in frustration. "Gie it laldy!" Bonnie shot into the sky. Merida wrapped her arms around her neck and screeched with the unexpected movement. When Bonnie stopped and hovered with Toothless and Hiccup Merida straightened out and patted Bonnie on the head. "Good lassie!" Hiccup smiled.
"Do you want to fly? Or do you want to call it a night?"
"A want ta fly!" Her blue eyes sparkled with determination and she stared down Hiccup. He nodded and off they went. Bonnie fallowed Toothless for the first half hour. Hiccup explained to Merida what the different leans meant. Forward faster, backward up, left, right. Merida got the commands down, and soon enough Merida and Bonnie were gliding through the air. They twisted and turned. Hiccup helped her figure out how to do a barrel roll, and soon enough that's all Merida wanted to do. She pushed her boundaries. She figured out that if she leaned back far enough that Bonnie would do a backflip, and so Merida looped through the air.
"Let's get higher!" Hiccup called out, and the four of them pushed on higher. They popped through the clouds, wisps of condensation parted and flowed around them. Hiccup looked at Merida and caught his breath. She looked just like a princess should. Drops of water coated her hair and in the setting sun they shone like crystals. She sat straight, head up and shoulders back. She looked regal and elegant. Hiccup felt like he couldn't breathe.
"Hiccup?" He shook his head, swallowing the lump in his throat.
"Yes?"
"Are yah okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." The sun dipped beneath the horizon and the clouds started turning blue. Hiccup lead Bonnie and Merida back down to the camp. Bonnie and Toothless curled together on a permanently scorched earth in the middle of the ring of stones. Hiccup and Merida sat around the small fire, Merida mixing something in a bowl. She cut a rabbit in chunks and mixed it together in the bowl. She took two rocks, and cleaned them off and then placed them close to the fire. She set the chunks of rabbit on them and a sizzling sound filled the quite air.
"It's eerie here."
"Wha' dae yah mean?"
"It's never loud here. Everywhere else is filled with noise, but the second you step into this circle of rocks… It's silent."
"Mah mum would tell me stories, and lore about this place. She used ta say et's where the fae live."
"Fae?"
"Aye. Wee people, no bigger than yer little finger. They control everything in nature. They're the reason the flowers bloom, and why water makes rainbows when the light hits et. They help bend the stalks of flowers ta get sunlight. She also said that this is where the Will-O-The-Wisps reside."
"The… wisps… The blue things that lead us to Bonnie?"
"Aye. It's more common. The wisps are spirits that could never really cross over. They're stuck in a different realm than we are. They can see our fate before we can. If we're lucky, they might help us. They sit here, and they whisper. That's why et needs to be so quite. They need to concentrate on everyone's lives. And when they think that you're ready fer yer fate, they whisper louder, their voices become blue. You need to have an ear fer them. If not, yah could miss out. When Mor'du died, I saw his spirit. Et turned into a wisp and thanked me. He thanked me. If et wasn't fet mah mum, we both would be bears. Many think that I was cursed, but really I was saved. I learned a valuable lesson." Merida leaned to drag the rocks out, their rabbit done.
"And what was that?" Hiccup asked, his eyes wide. Merida leaned close to him.
"I gotta' fight fer what I love." And she kissed him lightly. It only lasted a second, but it held millions of unspoken words.

When they were finished eating, the duo walked into the tent. They laid down and slipped under the blankets. Hiccup lay on his back, and Merida snuggled into his side. He wrapped an arm protectively around her and then flipped to his side. He laid his other arm on her hip and ran his fingers though her hair. Soon Merida was asleep, and so was Hiccup. That night, he dreamed of Merida, no bigger than his pinky, bending flowers, waking up small animals in the spring. Being the princess he sees her as.

The week flew by. Merida and Bonnie bonded just as quick as Hiccup and Toothless. They spent most of their time in the air, Merida learning all the tricks of the trade. At nights around the fire Hiccup would teach Merida about all of the dragons. They would read from the book and then he would quiz Merida before bed. They hunted and flew through the woods, finding small things to do. The last day they made a stop at Fire Falls and drank from the raging waters. They stopped at the castle, and dropped off Angus. They thanked Merida's parents for the cart and they showed off Bonnie.
"We're defiantly coming back. And maybe next time you guys can come back with us. We could give the boys some dragons all their own." Hiccup pointed to the three boys, now jumping back and forth between Toothless and Bonnie. Elinor looked at Hiccup with a wary expression.
"And just how big are these dragons you want ta give mah boys?" Hiccup held his hands up to about the size of a small dog.
"They're called Terrible Terrors!" Merida piped up from her dad's side. "It's a perfect fit for those three." They all stopped what they were doing and ran to their sister. They hugged her and smiled up at her. "Awe. I can't stay mad at you three." The giggled and ran away, leaving Merida wary. "Hey! Give me back my arrows yah little divs!" She chased after the three boys for ten minutes before she got them back. Too soon they had to leave. They packed all of their things back on Toothless and were off to Berk.

Hiccup flew down to the middle of the village, people crowded around him, asking him questions about his journey. That's when Astrid pushed her way to the front of the crowd.
"What, did the princess stay home? Not cut out for Viking life, is she?" Hiccup opened his mouth to answer her, when a roar sounded from above them. The villagers were silent, and when Merida stepped off the dragon cheers erupted. Fishlegs was the first to go to Bonnie, examining her.
"She's beautiful! Hiccup, please tell me you put her in the book!"
"Yes Fishlegs." Hiccup droned from his left side.
"You're going to let me examine her closer, right?"
"Aye Fishlegs." Merida deadpanned from his right.
"And you're going to let me-"
"Yes Fishlegs!"
"Aye Fishlegs!" They yelled in unison. Fishlegs smiled and turned his attention back to Bonnie. Astrid huffed from behind them.
"She's not that great…" Bonnie turned to face her and blew a puff of smoke in her face. Astrid sputtered and everyone laughed. Astrid gritted her teeth. She stomped away seething. Merida couldn't help but feel, in the pit of her stomach, that she wasn't going to have very much fun with Astrid.

Alright people. There are some questions about Bonnie that I would like to clarify, if you didn't read my comment. Bonnie is a Scottish dragon. She's completely made up. I was going to use Scottish lore, but I couldn't find any about dragons. So I created Bonnie. She has feathers because she lives in a different terrain than the dragons on Berk. While they live in more rocky land, Bonnie has lived in the lush forest. So her feathers make her look like a bird in a tree, or bush. I also made up the story about the Wisps. The story about the Fae was told to me by my grandma. So I hope you liked this chapter, please review! It gives me so much more motivation to write longer chapters! I'm sorry that my chapters have been pretty short lately. I've had a lot of class work. I was sick for a week, and I missed a lot of tests and school work. I also added some phrases and words that are often used in Scotland. That phrase Merida yelled at Bonnie to get her to fly means to do something with gusto. The cover photo for this story is what Bonnie is supposed to look like, so if you want a visual, there you go. I've also drawn out some of Merida's outfits, and will try and figure out how to post the links here so you can see them. If anyone knows how to do that, it'd be awesome if you told me that secret! SO. Hopefully I'll be able to write more! Alright you lovely people, review the story, tell me what you think! So. Hope you like it!
