Recovering Days
By the time he stopped crying, sense and awareness flooded back into his mind. The shattered pieces of glass and tattered state of the room terrified him. He did this? On his own? Mama Knight still clutched onto him, whispering soothing words. She sounded even more scared than he felt. Yes, he was angry and buried so many negative emotions down. But he never experienced a temper tantrum like that. Shutting his eyes tightly, he leaned into one of the only people he allowed to touch him. "I'm sorry," he mumbled tiredly, "about the mess…"
"Oh honey," she let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "We can clean it up."
Are you talking about the room or are you talking about me, he silently thought. He slowly peeled himself from her hold and took in the scene. How did he let this happen? All of that inner negativity was so buried down that he forgot the vast amount of it. The jealousy of Sarah unlocked every single one. "My hand hurts," he realized, a numb accusation.
Going right into "mother mode", Jennifer carefully looked at it to make sure he didn't completely hurt himself. Nodding in satisfaction, she smiled at him, conveying the message that his hand was alright. Logan merely nodded back just as the door swung open. "I'm hungry!" James burst through with Carlos at his side.
"Yeah!" Carlos grinned. "Do we have any… corndogs?"
The sight of the room surprised both of them. Logan could tell as their stances tensed and their eyes went wide. Carlos visibly paled and gulped while anger took over James. Both glanced at each other before taking in the scene again. "What happened?" James snarled.
"W-was Alex in here?" Carlos cursed himself for stuttering.
"I… I got angry," Logan said meekly. Disbelief came first. James looked as though he was about to protest, saying Logan was lying. Mama Knight sent him a stern look that shut him up. She weakly stared at the two boys. At her nod in confirmation, Carlos and James' mouths dropped open. "I didn't mean to."
"Oh."
Logan couldn't tell if that was from James or Carlos. Either way he picked himself up and gave a fake grin. "James? Would you mind making sure Kendall doesn't come up here? Until I'm done cleaning?"
James barked out harsh laughter. "Great, we're keeping secrets from him. Again."
"James," Carlos hissed. The brown haired boy sighed, nodded, and walked out to make sure Kendall didn't see the mess that the room, and Logan, has become. Miss Knight said she would go and find Katie, make sure she didn't come up either. That left Logan and Carlos. The taller of the two immediately went to cleaning, mumbling incoherent words to himself. Carlos merely stood there, unsure of what to do. "I'll help?"
"Sure."
And that's how the two started cleaning. Logan lectured Carlos on picking up the glass bits of the vase he threw in order to prevent him from cutting himself. The room was tense but not silent. Logan made sure of that. He continued to say he was sorry, he didn't know what came over him, and how stupid he was. Carlos eventually decided to add to the one-sided conversation. "It's not your fault," Carlos mumbled.
"So someone else decided to throw a childish temper tantrum?" Logan snorted.
"You were abused. Maybe this is your way of dealing with it." Carlos noticed Logan's slight cringe at the word abuse. "You should try talking about it with us. I know how scared you are of Alex and of all this. Believe me I'm terrified of him too. I keep having nightmares about him. But if you keep it all clogged up-"
"What?" Logan's head snapped up. "What did you just say?"
Carlos pressed his lips together, thinking. "Um… if you keep your feelings clogged up-"
"Before that."
"I'm terrified of Alex too, and I've been having night… oh." Carlos cursed at himself the second time that day. Really? He had to go and admit that? Logan was slowly falling apart and Carlos had to go and burden Logan with his problems? He really was a horrible friend.
"You've been having nightmares?" Logan exclaimed. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I'll bet you've been having nightmares too," Carlos replied. "You haven't gone to us."
Logan flushed, remembering what the last nightmare he had led to. The memories of Kendall's body against his, kissing him roughly, and how Kendall tried to wake him up without giving in filled him. God, he was such a slut. "I have. I was screaming the first night, and Kendall woke me up. We talked, and I don't have them anymore."
Well, because they sleep together. For some reason, that drove away any fear and every nightmare. Carlos appeared shocked by that statement. "It doesn't matter either way. You're our main priority. I just talked to the guy once and I'm terrified of him. I can't even imagine what you must be feeling after being with him for a month."
"Thirteen days."
"What?"
"Fourteen if you count the night he raped me. I've been counting," Logan shrugged. That's what he did when he was stressed. He started counting random things like tiles on the floor. "It wasn't that long."
"Felt like forever to us," Carlos grumbled.
Logan nodded. "What do you dream about?"
"Him, you, and Kendall," Carlos admitted, tears forming. "It's the same one each night. He does something terrible to you in front of me. I can't move, and he says it's my fault then Kendall hates me. The terrible things change each time. The first one he killed you."
"Carlos," Logan whispered, throwing his arms around the smaller boy. Just as Logan hugged him, Carlos burst out in tears. Both ended up on the couch with Logan comforting the crying boy.
"Why am I so scared of him?" Carlos whimpered. "If it's some big muscly guy, I could take him. I'd get hurt, but I'd take him. Why is he so scary?"
"Because he manipulated you," Logan answered softly. "It's one thing to face something head on, but you're scared because he is a good liar. He made you think I hated you which caused you to feel bad and insecure about yourself. When you realized he was lying the whole time and that he could make you feel that way so easily… that's why you're so scared."
"I'm sorry," Carlos gasped out. "I should be helping you but instead I'm crying on your shoulder."
Logan smiled. "What are you talking about? You've already helped me."
A smile. A genuine smile. God, Carlos has missed the sight. He's smiled after Alex came back but none were so real or heartfelt. Soon the tears stopped and Carlos found himself grinning back. Maybe things weren't so helpless after all. It would take time and mending but it wouldn't last forever. His smile gave him hope which was something Carlos truly needed at the time.
Lucy frowned, hesitantly knocking on the door. She didn't know why she felt the need to do this. Clearly they've reached a common ground and tolerated each other. But enough was enough. What happened when this all blew over? When it was just an unpleasant memory? What then? She needed to make amends now instead of later. That's what she repeated in her head as Jo opened the door. The blonde girl looked shocked to see her. Lucy guessed she would have felt the same way in the situation. "We need to talk," Lucy grumbled, pushing past Jo and into the apartment which was much larger than her own.
"Come in," Jo rolled her eyes, closing the door and following Lucy inside. "What about? Are the boys okay?"
"From what I hear, they're about as good as they can get," Lucy shrugged. "I actually came for you."
"Me?"
"Yeah," Lucy sighed. "We aren't friends, and we only talk when it suits other people's needs. Other than that, we just aren't comfortable with each other. And for what? Because you caught me kissing Kendall? Well, you don't have to worry about that anymore. He's in love with Logan, and we both know it. So let's just put this whole stupid fight behind us and be friends?"
Jo stared at her, completely caught off guard. Yes, that was something she never understood. Why did she have such a dislike for Lucy for kissing Kendall? She was fine with Logan being Kendall's boyfriend. Heck, she wasn't even that surprised. When she first met the boys, she thought Logan was jealous of her with the way he kept interrupting their first date for advice on how to avoid Camille. She never hated him though. "We can be friends," Jo found herself saying.
"Good," Lucy's body deflated with relief. "That's… good."
Jo laughed. "I think I didn't like you because I wasn't expecting Kendall to move on with another girl. I guess I didn't hate Logan because part of me always knew they were in love. Maybe that's why I was so okay with him?"
"I thought they had a thing too," Lucy smirked. "You should have seen how jealous Logan got when he thought Camille and Kendall were dating! I thought it was because he had a thing for Camille, but I heard he didn't get nearly as jealous when she started dating some other guy. Steve, I think?"
Jo burst out laughing. "No way! He was jealous of me too!"
"I feel horrible now," Lucy pouted. "He never had any obvious jealousy of me!"
Somehow both girls ended up sitting on Jo's couch discussing their favorite Palm Woods couple. Jo even admitted that she might have a crush on Jett making Lucy laugh even harder. It surprised both of them how fast they became friends. Maybe if they had just gotten rid of the whole both-liking-Kendall thing, they would have bonded like this ages ago.
"We need to tell Logan's parents," Miss Knight stated one afternoon with Gustavo and Kelly. Both frowned at the random change in topic before wrapping their minds around the idea. Gustavo and Kelly actually never thought once about Logan's parents. They never truly visited except for one time and it was very brief. And that was just his mother. "I've been debating this for a while as to whether Logan should tell them over the phone or in person or if I should…"
Gustavo gulped. "Did you talk to Logan about that?"
"No." She sighed. "But do you really think he would have said yes? He rejected the idea of going to the hospital."
"We shouldn't tell a mother her son was abused over the phone," Kelly hesitated. "We should ask her to meet with us. You're right though. Logan would just say no, and his parents need to know. We're the adults."
"As adults, we should have gone to the authorities," Gustavo grumbled to himself. If the women heard that, they showed no sign. They chattered away at how it would work and how they would build up to telling them. Finally they decided on what to do. They would call her, ask her to come visit, and tell her in person. She would be brought to Logan, and they would talk about it. It was a stretch considering how Logan was already upset they told Mr. Bitters, but it needed to be done.
"I'll put her on speaker," she whispered, pressing the call button. The room was tense as the phone beeped.
"Hello?" a tired, annoyed voice came on the phone. "Joanna Mitchell speaking."
"Joanna," she forced a bright grin. "How are you?"
"Jennifer?" Joanna mumbled. "I'm fine. Why are you calling?"
Right to the point as always. She gulped. "It's about Logan. We need you and your husband to come up and visit him."
"Why?" a gruff voice grumbled in the background. Looks like Joanna's husband was also listening to the conversation. "What's he done now?"
"Is he in trouble?" Joanna yawned. "Hospital?"
"Well no—" Jennifer tried again. "But he needs you two very badly. He's going through a rough patch, and I'd prefer to tell you in person."
A couple whispers were heard but none of them could make out the words. Gustavo's face was getting beat red as Kelly's eyes were wide with disbelief. These were really Logan's parents? Ones who were debating seeing their own son when he needed them? Kelly tapped Jennifer's shoulder, whispering in her ear, "We can pay for them to come up. Tell them it wouldn't cost a cent!"
Jennifer nodded. "If it helps," she spoke into the phone, "Gustavo is prepared to pay for everything including the flight."
No argument on Gustavo's behalf, Kelly noticed. Finally Joanna spoke over the phone. "Jennifer, we are very busy. I'm sure whatever is going on is simply a teenage boy phase. You can help out with that, and I see no need to go out of our way for that. I'll call you some other time. Tell Logan that we expect straight A's again this year. Grades are very important and just because he has some issues doesn't mean he can slack off."
Before any of them could protest, Joanna hung up. Gustavo growled, standing up and immediately looking for something to throw. Kelly must have recognized that because she leaped up and screamed at him to hold in his anger. Jennifer merely sat there, barely breathing. Joanna didn't care. She simply pushed off Logan because she was "busy". As long as he got good grades, it didn't matter. Tears stung her eyes.
"You bitch," Jennifer cried, cursing for the first time in a long time. "Joanna you selfish bitch!"
"We shouldn't tell Logan about what just happened," Kelly whispered, managing to calm Gustavo down. "He doesn't need this on top of everything."
All three adults nodded in agreement.
Kendall Knight knew they were keeping secrets. Not just Carlos, James, and Logan but his mother as well. Katie seemed to have no clue as to what was going on. But, much like what James did to him, their mother refused to let Katie in the crib a couple days ago. This whole place seemed to run on secrets. He was just relieved Jo, Lucy, and Camille had nothing to hide. At least, he didn't suspect they were hiding anything. Heck, even Jett was completely honest. He approached him earlier, claiming that he was going to ask out Jo. "Since you already dated Jo, I want some advice on how to ask her," Jett had claimed with a bright blush.
Of course, that helped him solve nothing. That didn't mean he gave up. He teamed up with Katie, who was just as concerned and curious. They tried eavesdropping, asking different sources, and nothing came out of it. It irritated him. The past month has been so full of secrets and lies. Kendall was just so sick of it all. That's how he found himself staring down at Logan, who was sitting on the orange cough with his hands folded on his lap. No one else was home, and the TV was merely background noise. "What?" Logan asked tiredly.
Kendall sighed. "Can I tell you something?"
"Anything."
Wish that was the same for you, Kendall silently thought. "When you told me the truth about Alex, I wanted to kill him. I really did. Beat him up a bit too because of the horrible names he was calling you."
"I know," Logan nodded.
"And right after you told me the truth about him, I started referring to you as my boyfriend in my head. When he was talking about you that way, I just thought how dare he talk about my boyfriend like that. It's weird. I didn't do that when you were dating him, but I am now." Kendall admitted with a blush.
Logan's eyes went wide. "Oh."
"Yeah," Kendall snorted. "I trust you a lot. You were lying for a while but it was to protect us. It hurt that you didn't come to us, but I get why. I'm glad you're with us now and that there are no secrets between us."
Logan shut his eyes tightly. "Who told you?"
"Who told me what?" Kendall titled his head to the side.
"About me," he whispered. "Who told you about my little scene earlier?"
"What?" Kendall gasped. "Like what happened when Camille hit you? That kind of thing?"
"No," Logan scowled. "I just had a temper tantrum. I threw around a bunch of stuff and trashed the apartment because I was so jealous of…" He paused at Kendall's pale face and wide eyes. "You really didn't know?"
"No," Kendall ran a hand through his hair. "I knew there were secrets though."
"Oh." That seemed to be Logan's favorite thing to say.
"Who were you jealous of?" Kendall whispered.
"Sarah," Logan grumbled.
"What?" he exclaimed. "But you two were getting along so well!"
Logan laughed. "You're so dense sometimes. The moment you left we were spewing out insults at each other. She called me an indecisive whore and I called her an indecisive bitch. I'm surprised she didn't know the full story though. Seems to be the only one who doesn't."
"It's none of her business," Kendall growled, feeling a sudden rage take over him. Sarah called him a whore? Part of him wanted to call her and scream at her. But right now Logan needed his help, and he wasn't going to let his anger take over that easily. "So you were jealous?"
"Yeah," Logan blushed. "I meant it when I said I still love you. But when I got jealous, it's like this whole thing of anger and sadness just came over me. I think I was pushing down those emotions so far that I forgot about them. But the jealousy just came and it made all of them tip."
"Logie," Kendall whispered. "That's why you should go to therapy. It's not so they can tell you you're crazy but help you deal with these emotions!"
"But I dealt with them," Logan protested. "They're gone now."
"You don't honestly believe that?" Kendall whispered.
"I do," Logan glared, abruptly standing up. "I have to go. Gustavo is having me make up the dances since I'm better now. Goodbye Kendall."
As soon as he left, Kendall let out the shaky sob he's been holding in. If Logan continued on like this, it was only a matter of time before he exploded again. That wasn't healthy, and Logan was just avoiding the problem. But what could he do? If Logan wasn't budging, he had to let it go. Maybe he'll bring it back up in a couple more days.
