Greetings and welcome to the final chapter of Through Their Eyes. This one is my longest chapter yet with 6,516 words. I could have ended it in the middle and had another chapter, but I decided not to. Anyway, hope you like it. See you at the ending. I'll have a lot more to talk about there.
"I'll start! Luxray, time for battle!" Dallas announced as he took a pokéball and threw it. After the bright flash of light, a large, yellow and black pokémon came out. Sam knew that Dallas came from Sinnoh, and so he was expecting lots of sinnoh pokémon.
"Luxray," Sam repeated to himself. It was an electric type, Lily, Drake, or Cassius could be good choices. Cassius had just battled with Team Rocket, however, so he might be a bit worn out. Sam wouldn't use him quite yet. Lily was a good special attacker while Drake would be a good physical attacker.
"Are you going to send one out?" Dallas said, getting impatient.
"Drake, you ready?" Sam asked while looking behind him.
"Flare," Drake nodded and stepped forward. Sam wondered why Drake was fighting for him when only a little bit ago he was hating Sam. Was it possible that Drake had forgiven him? Drake had always hated humans, and it was for a good reason. Sam doubted that he had forgiven him, or humans for that matter, completely, but maybe, seeing how Sam saved them from Team Rocket, he was giving Sam a chance.
Sam heard Drake give off a low growl. The flareon was looking straight at Dallas.
That's right, Sam remembered. Drake had seen Dallas train. That's when he criticized him. Wonder if that's the real reason he wants to fight.
"You have the first move, Sam," Dallas called out from the other end of the field. Sam took out his pokédex from his pocket and scanned Drake. After a few seconds, the list of known moves appeared on the screen. It took a bit longer to memorize than Cassius'. Once he had memorized them, he put his pokédex away.
"Alright, Drake, Start out with Ember!" Sam gave the first order. Drake shot out lots of small flames out of its mouth.
"Take it!" Dallas yelled. The Luxray stood there and held its ground as each one of the embers hit it. "Now, counter with Iron Tail!" The Luxray jumped up into the air with blinding speed. It's tail glowed a bright white. It did a backflip and slammed its tail on the flareon. Drake recoiled from the attack.
"You alright?" Sam asked. Drake shook away the pain as a signal that he was okay. "Quick Attack, let's go!" Drake ran forward and rammed into the Luxray so fast, it didn't have time to react. Luxray recoiled from the attack, but was fast to get back into its battle stance.
"Luxray, Thunderbolt!" Dallas commanded. Luxray started to gain static electricity all throughout its fur. Then, Luxray sent it out towards Drake.
"To the right!" Sam called out. Drake dropped down rolled over to the right. The Thunderbolt kept going and hit a tree, frying it a little. "Now, counter with Fire Fang!" Drake ran up towards the Luxray as his teeth ignited. He bit into the Luxray's leg. The electric type let out a shriek of pain. Luxray tossed Drake off and the fire type landed on his side. He got back up to his feet, still ready to fight.
That Fire Fang didn't seem to do much, Sam observed. Dallas really has trained a lot. We need a way to be able to do a lot more damage.
"Another Thunderbolt, Luxray!" Dallas said with his hand outstretched. Electricity circulated once again through Luxray's body. Another stream of lightning came out of the gleam eye pokémon, only this time, it was a lot faster, and neither Sam nor Drake had the time to react to it. It hit it's mark as Drake was electrocuted.
"Gla!"Lily cried out upon seeing her brother getting shocked. After the attack was done, Drake looked over Lily and put on a weak smile, showing that he was alright.
Suddenly, Drake's whole body let out a weak electrical charge as he fell to the ground.
"Paralysis," Sam whispered under his breath.
"Drake!" Lily cried out and was about to run out onto the battlefield before Cassius stopped her with his tail.
"Wait," he said.
"But-"
"Look," Cassius pointed with his tail. Lily looked over to where Drake was and saw that he was being engulfed by a reddish glow. With new strength, Drake got up and got ready to battle once more.
"What's that?" Sam asked himself. He pulled out his pokédex and checked it.
" guts" the pokédex said, "Flareon's hidden ability. It ups the attack power of the pokémon if they are under a status condition."
"I didn't know he had that," Sam said to himself. Then again, it only made sense. Flareon's normal ability was Flash Fire, and Sam had seen Drake be injured by a fire type attack.
"I didn't know that he had the hidden ability either." Lily said out of amazement. "Now that I think about it, he didn't have the two abilities that eevee's usually have when we were younger."
"What one did he have?" asked Cassius.
"I don't know what it's called, but he was always able to tell if another pokémon had a fighting type move, or a move that would be really effective against us."
"Anticipation is what it's called," Cassius said. "And yes, it is the a hidden ability of eevees."
"I never knew," Lily said with admiration. She focused her attention back on the battle.
"Alright, another Fire Fang, let's go!" Sam called out. With more energy than before, Drake ran up to the Luxray and bit it in the side. Luxray was as surprised by the flareon's new power as much as its trainer was.
"That's powerful," Dallas couldn't help whispering. Drake sank his teeth deeper into the Luxray's flesh. The Luxray cried out in agony until eventually Drake let go. The electric type tried to get reoriented, but couldn't and ended up falling over instead.
It did get back up.
Dallas returned it to its pokéball, knowing that it couldn't battle anymore. "That was powerful," Dallas whispered to himself again. "I don't think all of that was from the guts ability.
Just then, Drake's legs gave way and he too fell down.
A double knockout.
Sam went over and picked Drake up off the ground.
"Thanks Drake, you were great," Sam complemented. Drake gave him a nod. Sam laid the fire type down on the side lines next to his sister.
"Dray, are you okay?" Lily asked with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine, don't worry about me," he said back with a smile. Lily went over to sit by her brother, but stopped when she remembered she was an ice type.
"It's fine," Drake reassured her. "I don't mind the cold." With affirmation, Lily went and sat next to her older brother.
"That was some great fighting, you know," she complemented.
"I guess."
"Let's hope I can do that well."
Kate had walked around in a circle. She hadn't even realized it until she heard the battle that was going on. She was too lost in thought to look where she was going. Too many emotions clouded her thoughts.
Kate looked up from the ground to get her bearings. She was just outside of the little clearing that Team Rocket had captured her in. Just a little ways from that, a battle was going on. It looked like Sam was battling another human who was quite a bit younger. Kate decided to stay back and watch the strife. She concealed herself in some bushes that were near by. Drake had just been knocked out and Sam was carrying him to the sidelines. Lily and Cassius were sitting behind Sam, waiting for their turn.
"Why are they fighting for him?" Kate asked herself quietly. She figured that if she watched the battle, she might be able to piece together what was going on.
"Staraptor, time to battle," Dallas announced as he threw another pokéball out. Out of this one came a large bird pokémon with a large red stripe in the hair by its head. It landed on the ground once it came out.
"Lily, do you want to battle," Sam asked. The glaceon nodded her head and stepped onto the battlefield. Like with Drake and Cassius, Sam looked up the moves Lily could use with his pokédex. He put it away once he had learned them.
"Alright, Lily, start off the battle with Icy Wind!"
"Wing Attack, Staraptor!" Dallas countered. Lily blew out from her mouth very cold air and directed it right at the approaching Staraptor. The bird toughed it out and flew right through the Icy Wind. Staraptor rammed one of its wings into Lily, which caused her to reel back.
"Lily, you alright?" Sam asked again, this time to Lily. She nodded her head. Sam looked over to the Staraptor. The Icy Wind didn't seem to do much. The bird was flying a little slower, but other then that, it seemed perfectly fine.
"Alright then, let's try Ice Shard!"
Lily focused her energy and icicles formed around her. She then sent them towards Staraptor.
"Dodge those using Aerial Ace," Dallas shouted. Right before the Ice Shards hit Staraptor, it disappeared.
"Wha-Where did it go?" Sam looked around in the sky and saw nothing. Without warning, Staraptor appeared as a blur and hit into Lily, who didn't see it coming either. She lost her footing and was pushed a meter or two before the Staraptor flew back up into the sky.
Lily was faltering. Sam didn't need to ask her to know. Her legs were shaking. She was still standing, but it wouldn't take much more to make it not so.
"Let's finish this up!" Dallas said triumphantly and with a point of his finger, his yelled out his finishing attack. "Close Combat!"
Staraptor flew into a dive with its feet first, preparing to lay a serious beat down on Lily. Close Combat was a fighting type move, and if Lily didn't move, a serious beat down is what would befall her.
"Dodge it!" Sam shouted in desperation. Lily tried to jump away, but cringed right before she could. Sam looked at Lily leg and saw that it was the cause of her pain.
Her leg never healed completely Sam thought. There was nothing he could do now to stop the attack from landing. All he could do was watch.
Fate, however, had determined a different outcome.
Right before the attack landed, a blue aura surrounded Lily and she started to glow blue, almost like when Drake had activated his guts ability, but a different color. Staraptor started to smash it's feet and wings into Lily, and she just stood there and took it. Each attack was hitting her, but it didn't seem to do a thing. After taking a few attacks, Lily released another Icy Wind point blank, with made the Staraptor stop its attack and retreat.
"What move was that?" Sam wondered. It was rhetorical, of course, as he knew he could look it up on his pokédex. Sam pulled it out and looked it up.
"Barrier, a psychic type move. It sharply increases the defence of the pokémon using it.
"A psychic type move?" Sam wondered. He turned around and looked at Cassius. The cat shook his head.
"Not a move I know," he said telepathically. Sam turned back around to see Lily admiring herself as well. Sam could have sworn that wasn't one of her moves when he check earlier.
Guess she just learned it. Sam thought.
"Alright, another Ice Shard, let's go!" Sam called out. Lily once again concentrated and created small icicles around her. She sent them off towards the Staraptor, who was still recovering from the Icy Wind it had taken. It wasn't able to dodge them and the Ice Shard crashed into the bird, sending it into a spiraling nose dive. It slammed into the ground.
"Staraptor!" Dallas called out, wondering if his pokémon could still battle. "Get up!" he ordered. Staraptor tried its best to stand up, but ended up falling over, unable to battle any longer. Dallas returned his pokémon to its pokéball.
"Way to go, Lily!" Sam went over and congratulated her. She jumped into his arms, or at least, tried to. She, however, was way too big, and ended up knocking Sam over.
"Glaceon," she apologized.
"No big deal." Sam got back onto his feet with a smile.
Dallas watched Sam congratulate his glaceon. How is he this good? he thought. He's hasn't really battled before. There has to be something else happening.
Kate watched the battle in eager anticipation.
Even with type advantedge and the learning of a new move, Lily shouldn't have won that battle. She's not that good of a battler. Kate thought. Maybe it's not her power alone that's making her strong…
"Bibarel, time to battle," Dallas called out his last pokémon. Sam was surprised that Dallas wasn't using his pride and joy, but then again, it would be weak to Lily, so that might have been the reason.
"Lily, you still want to battle," Sam looked down at the glaceon.
"Gla" she nodded. Sam walked backwards, off of the battlefield.
"Bibarel, Water Gun!" Dallas started. The beaver shot out a fast, narrow blast of water.
"Duck!" Sam said. Lily crouched down and let the water pass over her.
"Now Bibarel, Take Down!" Dallas yelled. Bibarel ran towards Lily at an unprecedented speed. Lily was just able to get out of her crouching position before she was smacked by the force of the attack.
"Gla!" she yelled as she was flung outside of the battlefield.
"Lily!" Sam ran over to where she now lay on the ground. She didn't even try to get back up. She knew she couldn't. Despite the freezing cold he felt, Sam pick up Lily and took her over to where Drake and Cassius were. Drake was now standing as he was no longer paralyzed. Sam carefully laid her down on the ground.
"Take a good rest," Sam said. Lily nodded her head. She was slowly able to get into a sitting position.
"I'd say you did as well," Drake said. Lily smiled.
"Thanks Dray. Look's like you're up Cass."
"It appears so," Cassius said as he took his place on the battlefield.
"Alright Bibarel, just one more!"
"Bibarel," it called out, signaling that it was ready.
Kate had a perfect example of why she hated trainers right in front of her. This other boy was obviously treating his pokémon like they were tools. In complete contrast, however, was Sam. He wasn't. He was treating Lily, Drake, and Cassius like they were his friends. Like how it was supposed to be. Nothing that Kate would suspect from the human that had captured her. Maybe, just maybe, Sam was different than he was all those years back.
"Bibarel, start out with a Water Gun." Dallas ordered. Bibarel shot water out of its mouth just like last time.
"Light Screen," Sam called out. A shield appeared in front of Cassius and stopped the water.
"Head-Butt!" Dallas said. The beaver started to run towards the espeon.
"Reflect," Sam was playing the defensive game. Bibarel was about to hit Cassius, but was stopped by a invisible wall again. "Now, Psychic!" Sam shouted. Cassius closed his eyes and pushed Bibarel away with the power of his mind. It went and slammed onto the ground.
How am I supposed to get through that defence? Dallas thought while his Bibarel got up from the ground, still able to battle. He can't have both a Reflect and a Light Screen at the same time Dallas continued thinking. That's it!
"Bibarel, another Head-Butt!" Dallas ordered. Bibarel followed the order and again ran at Cassius.
"Reflect!" Sam said again.
Perfect Dallas thought. Cassius threw up another Reflect.
"Now, Bibarel, to the sky!" Dallas yelled. The beaver stopped running and used the momentum to spring up into the air.
"Wh-" Sam exclaimed. It was only too late that he saw his mistake.
Dallas did a little flourish with his arm before calling out the attack to end it all. "Bibarel, Hyper Beam!"
A large yellow ball started to form inside of Bibarel's mouth. It realised all of the energy it had stored up in one huge beam. The ray shot towards Cassius like a bullet. It broke right through the reflect and slammed into the espeon.
"Cassius!" Sam called out. The blast had made a shockwave so powerful that Sam had to brace himself so he didn't fall over. The Hyper Beam had kicked up a lot of dust, so Sam couldn't see what had happened. Once the dust cleared, however, it was obvious what had happened.
Cassius was laying on the ground, unable to battle anymore.
"Cassius!" Sam yelled and went over to his injured partner. He picked him up. "You alright?" Sam asked.
"Es,"
"Well, guess that means I won," Dallas said triumphantly. "So I think I'll start with capturing that glaceon." Dallas took an empty pokeball and got into his throwing position. Lily was to tired to try and run. All she could do was stand there.
"I'm not loseing two family members to trainers like you," Drake said as he jumped in front of Lily.
"Pokeball, g-" Dallas started to say before something black flashed across his vision. The next thing he knew, Dallas heard his Bibarel crying out in pain. He looked over to it and saw something black and gray on top of it, biting down with its fangs.
"What the-?" Dallas said in bewilderment. The wolf finally got off of Bibarel, but only once it was knocked out.
"Is that a wild pokemon?" Dallas asked wondering why it had decided to beat up his Bibarel.
Sam looked at the mightyena in front of him. He looked into her eyes, and she looked into his. Sam knew what she wanted.
"No," Sam said as he rose to his feet. "She's mine."
Dallas couldn't believe what he was seeing. He didn't exactly know what was going on, but one thing was for sure. The mightyena had just entered the battle on Sam's side, which meant that this had turned into a four on four instead of a three on three. Dallas returned his Bibarel.
"Fine then. Prepare to face the full extent of my power!" Dallas yelled as he unclipped his last pokemon from his belt.
"Golem, time to battle!"
Out of the final pokeball came Dallas' final pokemon. Just it coming out made the ground shake under its weight. The large, round rock creature was what stood before Sam and Kate now. Sam returned Cassius to the sidelines.
"Go get 'em, Kate," Lily yelled out as encouragement. Kate looked back and nodded.
Sam had seen Dallas train his Golem many times, and he knew it was a pokemon to fear.
I need to stay calm Sam thought. He took out his pokedex and checked Kate's moveset. He figured out that he didn't actually need to do that, because he remembered all of her moves already.
"Ready to battle, Kate?" Sam asked. Kate let out a growl to signal that she was.
"Golem, start out with Rock Throw!" Dallas started. Golem picked up a rock near by and chucked it at Kate.
"Knock it away with Assurance!" Sam countered. Kate waited until the boulder was close to her, and then she smacked it with her paw, causing it to smash into a tree bystander. "Now, Bite!" Sam ordered. Kate rushed forward and crunched down on the Golem's arm. Golem tried to shake her off, but Kate held firm.
"Get her off with Rollout!" Dallas shouted. Golem tucked in his limbs and curled into a ball. This caused Kate to lose her grip. Golem started to roll away from Kate as it gained speed. The rock type came back around and rammed right into Kate. The Golem wasn't moving very fast, so it didn't hurt too much. Kate recoiled from the attack, but recovered fast and dodged the next time Golem rolled back. Each time it came around, however, Golem continued to gain speed and come in at a faster rate. It was coming in too fast the third time and Kate was unable to dodge it.
Golem smashed into the dark type with lots of power. Kate stubbled across the battlefield, but unlike all of her companions, she kept her feet on the ground and did not fall over. The Golem stopped rolling and got back on its feet.
"Kate, Assurance!"
The Golem was still recovering when Kate went up and smashed her paw into it a few times. It didn't do so much physical damage than a damage to its morale, like most dark type moves. The less it wanted to fight, the easier it would lose.
"Now, another Bite!" Sam commanded. Kate did so and bit onto the Golem's leg. It cried out in pain as it once again tried to knock the mightyena off.
"Use Smack Down to get her off!"
All of the sudden, Golem stopped moving and just started to fall over. Kate wasn't able to relocate herself in time, and got squashed by the large rock falling on her.
"No, Kate!" Sam cried out. He hoped it wasn't the end. Golem got off of her and back up a bit. Kate wasn't moving.
"Looks like you lost aga-" Dallas started to say. He stopped when he saw Kate start getting back up. Sluggishly, Kate tried to get up. She lost her balance and fell back down. She tried again and succeeded the second time.
Kate was in bad condition, and Sam knew this. She had endured a lot, and she wouldn't be able to take much more.
"Quick, another Assurance."
Kate used the last of her strength to launch hit the Rock type again. Golem was sent back a little because of the attack.
Both Kate and Golem were breathing heavily now. The two of them were very worn out. One more hit on each of them and this battle would be over.
"Here we go, Golem. Use Rock Throw on the ground to create a sand cloud!" Dallas ordered. Dallas knew that if he used Rock Throw on Kate, she would have a chance to dodge it and counter-attack. He wasn't going to take that chance.
Kate backed up before the Golem picked up a rock and slammed it into the ground to kick up sand that covered the entire battlefield. He did this so Sam couldn't see anything.
"Kate, come back to me," Sam called through the cloud of sand. Kate came out of the dust storm and went to where Sam could see her.
"Use Order Sleuth to find out where Golem is," Sam whispered to Kate. The mightyena closed her eyes and started to sniff around. She perked up when she knew where it was.
"Rollout!" Sam heard Dallas call out.
"Don't let it hit you!" Sam warned.
Golem came rolling out of the sand at an incredible speed. Kate, however, knew where it had been, and was able to dodge it. The Golem rolled back around and came in for another go. Kate just barely dodge it and almost fell over in the process. The Golem turned around and was coming in faster than the other two times.
Sam knew that if Kate couldn't dodge it before, then she wouldn't be able to dodge it now that she was really injured. Sam tried to think of something really quick.
Just then, an idea hit him, and Kate knew what that idea was. They didn't even need to speak. Kate knew what Sam wanted to do, and Sam knew what Kate wanted to do. It was like they were in perfect sync. Sam closed his eyes. He could almost feel the connection between them.
Sam waited until the very last moment. Until the Golem was almost to Kate. He opened his eyes.
"Sucker Punch!" He shouted even though he didn't think he needed to. Kate built up her energy and smashed her paw into the Golems underside, causing it to spin out of control. It kept spinning and even smashed through a few rocks before slowing down and finally stopping. The Golem extended its arms and legs out from its body, but only for a second before it fell to the ground.
Golem was unable to battle.
It was over. Sam had won.
Lily, Drake, and Cassius all went over and started to congratulate Kate.
"Awesome job, Kate."
"That was some superb battling."
"Yeah, I guess you did well."
Dallas was astonished. He had lost? But how? He returned Golem to its pokeball. He then fell onto his knees.
"But…how could I lose? After all this time, has my training been for not?"
"No, I'll tell you why you lost," Dallas looked up to see Sam with all of his pokemon behind him. "You lost because you weren't bonded with your pokemon."
"Bonded?" Dallas asked.
"You see, on the journey I went on, I learn a very important lesson. Pokemon aren't tools for battle or things to be collected. They are our friends, and we need to treat them like that." Sam offered Dallas his hand. Dallas grabbed it and Sam helped him to his feet.
"So...does that mean I shouldn't be battling?"
"Not at all. You just need battle with your pokemon and not just have them battle. You need to be bonded with them. Do you understand?"
"Not entirely." Dallas said honestly.
"Don't worry, you will. In the meantime, try treating your pokemon like friends instead of just creatures, alright?"
"Alright," Dallas agreed. "I'll do that." Dallas checked his watch. "I need to be getting home soon; its almost lunch time. Thanks for battling me." Dallas started to run home. "See you around!" he yelled behind him.
After Dallas had left, Sam turned around to the four pokemon behind him. A smile crept onto his face. He knelt down and looked at everyone.
"Thanks guys. You're the best friends someone could ask for." Sam's expression turned from happiness to sadness.
"Well, I guess this is really where we say goodbye." Sam said. All of them looked at Sam with sad expressions.
"I know that you guys don't want to live with someone like me, so I'm going to leave now. I hope we'll meet again some day." Sam gave one last smile and then turned away to go back to his house. He decided not to look back, as that would only make it worse.
Sam wiped away a tear that had formed in his eye. As long as they were happy in the wild, well, Sam guessed that he was happy too.
Lily watched Sam walk away into the distance. She couldn't believe that he was leaving. After all they had been through together, it just didn't seem right to go away, back to their small house. Then again, she wanted to live in the wild, right?
Right?
"Come on Lily, let's start heading home," Drake said as he came up behind her. "It will be a long trip home, so we might as well start now."
"I guess you're right," Lily replied. The four of them started to head back the way they came.
"Lily, why are you so downtrodden?" Cassius asked the glaceon.
"It…just doesn't feel right to leave Sam after all that we've been through."
"I know what you mean," Drake agreed.
"I can see where you're coming from," Kate added.
"Well, in that case," Cassius spoke up, "may i propose an idea?"
Sam decided that he didn't need to knock on the back door and walked inside. He took his pokedex out of his pocket and threw it gently inside of his backpack, which was on a table in the laundry room. This, however, caused the backpack to fall off the table and all of its contents to spill out. Sam let out a sigh and started to pick up everything. After he had gotten all of the potions, status healing items, and empty pokeballs back in, he put the pokedex carefully inside. He then headed to the living room.
Jason and Steven were sitting in the living room, which was now back to normal.
"Welcome back, Master Samuel," Jason greeted him.
"Where's Bill?" Sam asked as he sat on the couch next to Steven.
"He took his stuff and left. He had another place that he had to be." Steven answered.
"And the eevee?"
"We released it to the wild." Steven again answered.
"So, how'd it go?" Jason asked.
"What?" Sam questioned.
"Helping your friend. How'd it go?"
"Oh…it went well."
"Samuel, where had you been for the past few days? And why on earth were you an eevee?" Steven asked.
"Well, where to begin?"
And for the next half hour, Sam told the whole story. About how he had been sucked into the pokeball, about how he had met Cassius, Lily, Drake and Kate. About the battles they had. About all the houndoom. About the sableye. About Team Rocket. About how they figured out he was a human, and how they forgave him for it, and about his battle with Dallas. Finally, he told them about what he had learned on the journey. About how pokemon are our friends and how we need to work with them.
"That's quite a tale," Steven commented.
"So where are your friends now?" Jason asked.
"Out there in the wild," Sam answered.
"So you didn't end up catching them?" Steven questioned.
"No. I knew that they didn't want to be captured, so I left them in the wild."
"Even if they were the only pokemon you had yet to be captured?" Jason asked.
"Even if."
"What I still don't understand," Steven said while putting his hand up to his chin, "is why the pokeball malfunctioned."
"I think I know," Sam said. "It was Jason's doing. He had purposely made the pokeball malfunction by putting a crack in it."
Jason looked surprised, but that soon went away.
"Was it that easy to tell?" He asked.
"I know why you did it, too," Sam continued. "You wanted to help me understand that pokemon are living beings, too, and that they have rights as well, and that because of that, I shouldn't be capturing them."
"Well, it worked, didn't it?" Jason said, not denying any of it.
"Yeah, I guess it did," Sam said with a smile. "I guess it did."
Suddenly the whole house was filled with a very loud sound. It was the sound of flying blades, like the ones on a helicopter. Sam got up from his seat and ran outside.
Right there, on his front lawn, was indeed a helicopter. But that wasn't what caught Sam's attention. It was who came out of it.
The man had graying brown hair and a lab coat on. He looked to be in his early 50's. Sam knew exactly who this person was.
"Professor Oak!" Sam said as he ran up to the man. The helicopter's blades had died down, so the noise from them was gone.
"Why, hello there, Samuel," Professor Oak greeted him. "How are you today?"
"Fine, I guess. Why are you here?"
"Why, I came to congratulate you myself."
"Congratulate?"
"Of course. Congradulate you on completing the pokedex."
This confused Sam very much.
"Completed?"
"Yes. Your pokedex sent a signal to my lab that said that you had caught all 672 pokemon that you need for my contest."
Sam thought about this for a second. "But I haven't caught all of them."
"You haven't?" Professor Oak was surprised by this. Jason and Steven were now also outside, watching what was happening.
"No, I still need four more."
"Really? Well, I don't think that you're pokedex would have lied. Could you check it?
"Of course." Sam reached for his pocket but felt nothing there. "Oh yeah, that's right, I left it in my backpack. Let me go and get it." Sam left Professor Oak and went back into his house.
"Professor, please come inside, would you?" Jason offered.
"Thank you."
Sam went into the laundry room where his backpack was. To his dismay, it had fallen over again. Potions, pokeballs, and the like were once again scattered across the floor. Sam gave another sigh and decided he would clean it up later. He searched through his backpack until he found his pokedex, undamaged. It was pretty stout worthy and could probably survive being thrown at a wall. Sam turned it on as he walked back into the living room.
"I must say that this is such an honor, Professor," Steven said. "I am a really big fan of your work. I have listened to every one of your lectures. They are all very fascinating."
"Well, thank you. It's always nice to meet another fan."
"Please, Professor, could I get you anything? Tea perhaps?"
"That sounds nice, Steven. Thank you."
Sam started to scroll through the pokemon he had caught. It was all the same until he got to flareon.
It had been caught.
Sam was confused. He had never caught a flareon. Sam made sure that this was his pokedex. It was, so Sam kept scrolling. The next one was espeon. That one was caught to. Mightyena? Yup. And the final one, glaceon? It was there too. That meant that Sam had caught all 672 pokemon that he needed too.
"But this isn't possible, I didn't catch these." Sam paused as he thought about it. "Unless…" he whispered. Sam's eyes widened as he realized what happened. Sam practically sprinted back to the laundry room, smashing his elbow when he was rounding a corner. He rubbed it a little and ran a bit slower afterwards.
Once he got the the laundry room, he looked around at all of the stuff on the floor. There were potions, things like burn heals, sure, but that's not what Sam was looking for. But there, in the corner, were some of the pokeballs that had fallen out. Four of them to be specific.
Sam just stood there, looking at them. He eventually went over and picked them up.
"Come on out guys," he said softly while opening every one of them. Out of them came a flareon, an espeon, a mightyena and a glaceon.
Sam was silent. He just stared at them with a blank expression. Slowly, that expression changed to one of joy. He pulled all four of them into a hug, to their surprise. Eventually, Sam let go once he realized everyone was shivering. Lily let out an apologetic "Gla." No one seem to mind though.
"You guys would really capture yourself for me?" Sam asked.
"We all decided that we needed to repay you some how for being such a good friend to us." Cassius said telepathically. "Lily and Drake also decided that they would rather stay with you than go back to their house in the forest."
"And what about you?"
"Let's just say that I have found a new master," Cassius said with a smile.
"Thanks guys," Sam said with genuine gratitude. "So come on, let me introduce you all to everyone."
The rest of the day was spent in celebration for Sam completing the pokedex. There was a party where anyone in town was invited. Dallas came around and even Jane and Amber decided to pay a visit. Many other people came that Sam didn't even know. Some of them came just to say congratulations, while some just came for the refreshments. Sam's parents video-phoned in to say that they got the news and were very proud of him. They were sad that they couldn't be there, but they had other important things to do.
There was a ceremony where Professor Oak himself gave Sam a trophy along with the money and the master balls, which Sam graciously accepted.
Sam decided to give Bill a call and tell him to release all of the pokemon that he had caught. He didn't need them anymore, and they deserved to be in the wild.
It was evening when Sam had finally had a moment with Jason.
"Hey, Jason, I wanted to ask you something," Sam said, wanting him to hear him over all the music. Sam sat next to Jason on the couch.
"Yes, and what would that be?"
"How did you know that I would be safe on my way home once I was turned into an eevee?"
"Well, let's just say that I knew a friend of mine was in the area," Jason said with a smug smile. Just then, Cassius jumped up onto the couch and into Jason's lap. Jason started to pet him.
Sam realized what Jason had meant.
"Wait, so you mean to tell me that you knew Cassius?"
"That I did. I was even the one who released Cassius to the wild. See, Cassius' master was a good friend of mine. I knew that Cassius still wandered that area, so I also knew that you were bound to meet each other."
Sam put on his own smile.
"Why doesn't that surprise me?"
Jason and Sam chuckled a bit at this. Sam looked behind him just in time to see Kate leaving through the front door.
"Excuse me," Sam said to be polite and got up to go after Kate.
Kate was walking into the setting sun away from Sam's house.
"Hang on!" Sam called to her. Kate stopped and looked behind her.
"You're going to go find your pack, aren't you?" Sam said once he had caught up with her. Kate nodded. Sam let out a sigh and bent down to her level and patted her on the head. "Well, you won't see me stopping you. Take care then, and thanks for everything."
Kate let out a friendly growl with another nod. She turned around and continued on her way. Sam watched her go until she vanished into the distance.
"I'll miss you, Kate," Sam said to himself.
The big thing, however, was that Kate had actually forgiven him. After Sam had taken her away from her pack, Kate not only didn't want revenge on him anymore, but also captured herself for him just so he could complete the pokedex.
Sam let out another large sigh. "See ya, Kate."
"Hey Sam, what are you doing out here?" Sam heard Dallas say behind him. Sam turned around to meet his friend. "Come on back inside, it's cold out here," Dallas said.
"Right," Sam answered back. The two of them went back inside. But before he closed the door, Sam looked out across the horizon one more time before shutting the door closed.
The tired cat wandered through on the road with no goal in mind. Just meandering along in the rain with no purpose. Cold and hungry, the persian just kept going. Finally, his legs gave out and he fell down onto the ground. The last thing he heard before he blacked out was a woman's voice.
"Now what do we have here?"
And there you have it. I hope the ending wasn't too rushed and I hope you all like the ending. I bet ,y story wasn't the longest you've ever read and I know that it's not the best you've read, but I am glad that you stuck to the end.
But yes, I have a lot to talk about. First off, as you just read, I might make a squeal to this story. It wouldn't have anything to do with the Through Their Eyes theme, but it would star the same characters. So tell me, do you want to see a squeal? I won't make it right away as I have some other story ideas that I want to work on.
I would also like you guys to tell me about how you liked the story over all. What were some things you liked? What were some thing you thought could be better? Who was your favorite character and why? Again, would you like to see a squeal? Anything really.
But anyway, thanks again for reading. I'll be uploading chapter 7 of To the Stars Above and then I'm going to make a new story. So look out for that. See you next time.
Fun Fact: Do you want to fight Dallas too? Well, you can! He's on route 203 in the game Plt. On your third Rematch with him, he will be using the same pokemon you see him use here.
