Hi :)
Please don't kill me for not updating in so long. But I have been extremely busy with college coursework and I lost a lot of inspiration with New Girl, I can't get on board with Season 4. I just fell they are under mining all growth that Nick made in season 3 and make Jess seem to desperate to find love. Why can't she and Nick be friends? That's what they wanted didn't they? The writers have the heads so far up their arses that they can't write anything but S***.
Anyway rant over
Please enjoy, this is Nick planning his proposal to Jess.
Chapter 16: I need your help
"So why the summoning?" questioned Winston.
Schmidt, Coach, Jamie, Dana, holding Lilly, Matt, CeCe and Winston were all sat on the sofa looking at Nick wondering what he needed.
"Ok I have an announcement, I am going to ask Jess to..."
"You asking her to move in with us because I could get used to a female roommate."
"No Schmidt, actually I would be moving out…"
"You don't want to move into ours do you, its way to small." Nick getting more and more annoyed with the interruptions was about to yell, thankfully Dana stepped in. "Guys why don't you let him finish."
"Thank you Dana, and no CeCe I won't be moving into yours," he took a deep breath, "I am going to ask her to marry me." Nick had been thinking about this for a couple of months, we to be honest with himself since he first saw her. But that's not the point. He believed a year was a respectable time to have been dating to take the next step. He knew in today's society most would move in together first that was the next step of commitment, but Nick thought what is the point he wanted to be with her forever and moving in together would be a waste of a couple of years. Also with the scandal of Caroline and her previous relationship with Spencer he just wanted to step up and be the man she had always dreamed of. Throughout the relationship he always thought she could do better than him but he would always strive to be the best he could be just for her, and hopefully a future family.
"WHAT!" They all said at the same time, "Wow congratulations buddy." Winston was the first to get up and give him a hug and a hand shake. Everyone got up and said how happy they were for him, except Schmidt. Nick looked passed everyone to Schmidt, "You alright?"
Schmidt coughed awkwardly, "Yeah umm congrates." Schmidt made a bad excuse and walked out of the room, Nick hot on his heels. Nick followed him up to the roof, "Schmidt, what's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, I'm fine. No need to worry about your friend when you're gone with new wife, happy little family and white picket fence."
"Is this what the problem is, you think I'm gunna forget about you because I'm leaving?"
"No, of course not. I am perfect, look we will have an extra room that I can finally clean. Seriously when you are married you better learn better hygiene." Schmidt kept muttering to himself, not allowing Nick to hear.
Nick put his hands on his friend's shoulders. "Schmidt. Listen to me, yes things are going to change and yes I am not going to be leaving in the loft with you guys anymore, but I am not going to forget about you, we have been friends for years, I will always be your friend ok."
"Right, cos your douche of a friend will be a high priority with your new fabulous life."
"Ok, I don't know how to get this threw your thick skull, YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND!"
Schmidt threw his arms around Nick, making him kind of uncomfortable, "Aww Nick."
"Ok get off." Schmidt let go, "Now we have that all sorted can we go back down stairs now so you guys can help me with the actual proposal, that we don't even know she is going to say yes to yet."
"She'll say yes, and sure." The two guys went back to the loft where the others were trying to guess what was going wrong. "Everything is fine, all sorted."
"Now the proposal. I'm gunna need your help." Nick smiled at the others.
"So this is my idea…" Nick spent the next half hour explaining his idea, where everyone gave the next clue to Jess to lead her to her romantic location for him to finally pop the question. "Ok we a week to get this all sorted now everyone knows what they're doing?"
CeCe, Dana and Nick were going to pick out the ring tomorrow, which they informed him could take all day. Then Nick and Schmidt were going to convince Betty to let him hire out the diner for the evening. Coach, Winston and Jamie were in charge of getting all the supplies for the night and then Nick was going to spend the remaining days writing the notes and his speech.
Day 1:
"How can I help you?"
"I'm looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend." This was the sixth shop they had been too, the girls weren't kidding when they said it was going to take all day to do this. "Ah, lovely how long have you been together?"
"Just under a year."
"Aww so romantic, so you just knew then beautiful. What is your girlfriend like then?"
"She's full of life and kindness, could never find a bad thing to say about anyone. I have never met anyone like her and I count my blessings every day that she chose to be with me, because I don't know how I got so lucky."
"Well she sounds lovely and I think I have the perfect ring for you." Nick was so confused by how she knew the perfect ring from a description like that, but none of the other shops even bothered to ask so I guess he could only trust her. And how right he was to do that, the ring was perfect. With a twisted front around a simple diamond, encrusted by small sapphire diamonds. "It's the one. How did you know?"
"I've done this job for a long time, I'm sure she'll say yes. Good Luck."
"Thank you so much." After Nick paid a small fortune left the store a lot happier. "Well Nick I think that was very successful. The ring it beautiful."
"Thanks CeCe, it all feels a lot more real now. I think the nerves a starting to kick in and I still have 6 more days to wait."
"Everything will go to plan Nick, Jess loves you so much, she must do your first date was in a hospital looking after a 7 year old. You're perfect for each other."
Day 2:
Nick and Schmidt made their way to the diner, Nick didn't know if Betty would agree but he hoped so. They had been friends for years due to Nick's awkward hours he would be finding himself there on a regular basis. Also she has always been interested in how the couple were doing, this was all in Nicks favour. They walked through the door smiling, Betty went right over to them, "What can I do for you lovely men?"
"Just the question I wanted you to ask, there is actually. Can you take a break?"
"Of course, I own the place, just follow me." They followed Betty to a booth in the back of the diner.
"So how can I help?"
"My good friend Nick here, has finally found a women that puts up with his lack of hygiene, his lack of, well looks and hi…"
"Ok, that's enough Schmidt," Nick interrupted, wondering why he asked him to come with him. "Look, I have decided to ask Jess to marry me."
"What oh my gosh that's amazing, I'm so happy for you guys, but how does this involve me?"
"That's the thing, this is where we had our first 'date' and where we come if we have had a fight, it's really special to us and I was wondering if, only if you were willing, to let me rent it out for the evening on Friday, so I could propose here?"
"That's so romantic, and of course you can do that I would be happy to help you in this. Do you want to come back to my office and we can work out the details"
"Sounds good." Nick got up and followed Betty out to the back office.
Day 3:
"Ok what do we need to get?"
"Roses, rose petals, candles, note cards and some romantic music. Also I was thinking we should get stuff for a congratulations party, because we know Jess is going to say yes so we just plan it for the next day as a surprise for the both of them." Said Winston as him, Coach and Jamie sat around the table in the loft.
"That's a good idea, so we obviously need booze for that." Coach replied.
"So it's official we are going to throw a party well I'll gets Schmidt's all you need to know about throwing a fabulous, flawless party list, and then we can go and get what we need." Said Winston.
Day 4:
Nick was sat in his office in the bar, with a blank piece of paper in front of him trying to come up with something to say to Jess when he 'pops' the question. He didn't know why it was hard, he had lots to say to Jess about how his life is better with her in it, how even on a bad day she can make him smile, how he finally feels like he has a brighter future with her in it. But he just couldn't put that into words, Nick wasn't the best with words.
After his office was filled with balled of paper he decided to call it quits for the afternoon, he need to look at something else. He got up and decided to go serve a few drinks it might clear his head and some inspiration might come his way.
Day 5:
"I can't do this!" Nick said to no one in particular, while sat in the same place he was yesterday. Just as he was about to punch something there was a soft knock on the door, "Nick are you ok?" It was Matt.
"Yeah I'm fine, you alright? What you doing here?"
"My dad said you were having troubles coming up with what to say, I thought you could use a hand from an 8 year olds perspective."
"You know that might just be what I need." Matt sat down on the chair in front of Nick's desk. "So what you got so far?"
"Umm…a head ache."
"Funny. Ok why are you struggling with this?"
"I don't even know, I know that I love Jess I just can't get anything in words that shows how much. You know maybe this is weird talking to kid about."
"Nick, I maybe a child but I have seen a lot in my short life, and I have never seen you happier. Hmmmm…. When I say Jess what comes to your mind."
"That she's amazing and wonderful, and beautiful, and kind. I have never met anyone like her before."
"Why do you think your time with Jess is different than Caroline?"
"I don't know, but I have always blamed my bad commitment with Caroline because of my childhood and that I didn't know what love was but when I met Jess I knew that wasn't true but I just hadn't found the right one to love or be loved by yet."
"Can you see yourself without her?"
"No, she has changed me and my life can never be better without her."
"You know what you are going to say, just say what you said to me."
Nick got up and gave Matt a hug. "You know it creeps me out how wise you are for a kid."
"Ah well I have had some good role models."
"You know I didn't really understand when your parents came down here for me to help out with you but I'm sure glad they did you're the best nephew a guy could ask for."
"I love you Nick."
"I love you too buddy."
TODAY'S THE DAY:
"Ok everyone got what they need, it's go time. So Matt, you're up first. Then CeCe, Schmidt, Winston and Coach. Ok so you guys are gunna help me set up while she is still at school right?"
"Yeah, no problem. Let's get you engaged."
The door of the diner opened and Jess walked in, and Nick knew his life was never going to be the same again.
Thank you for the read hope you enjoyed it.
