Chapter 17: Epilogue
13 Years Later
"Matt, can I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure what's the problem Kate?"
"Ok you know how you asked me to be the flower girl at your wedding?"
"Yeah? Do you not want to do it anymore?
"Of course I still want to do it, it's just I'm scared that I'll mess up. It's your biggest and most exciting day of your life and I don't want to mess it up for you."
"Oh sweetie you're not going to mess it up for me, ok have I ever told you the story of when I was your parent's page boy?"
"No, my mum has told me about their wedding and I've seen pictures but not about you being the page boy I'm sure you weren't nervous at all."
"Oh wasn't I? I was worse than you, ok where do I begin?"
Flashback
"Matt? Matt? You there?"
"Hey Nick, you alright? How are the wedding plans going?"
"Good, that's actually why I am here." Matt and Nick both took a seat on the couch in the middle of the room. "Jess and I were talking and we were wondering if you would be our page boy at the wedding?"
"You want me to be in the wedding? Like in in the wedding?"
"Yeah well, you were what got us together in the first place and you are my nephew, the best nephew may I add, it would be the greatest honour."
"Seriously, this is so great I can't wait, I would love to, thanks Nick." Matt jumped out and gave Nick a massive hug.
"Good well you can come with me, your brother, and the guys to get suits fitted tomorrow."
"Awesome!"
Day of before the wedding
"Nick, I don't know if I should be in the wedding anymore, I think it's best if I sit in the congregation and watch rather than stand at the front. I don't want to ruin your big day"
"Matt, calm down you will do great and I need you up there with me, how am I going to cope without you huh? You're the best and only guy I would want for the job."
"You mean all that really?"
"You don't think that I'm not nervous about messing up, I could forget my vows, I could trip, make a fool of myself in front Jess again? It is normal to be nervous and we can do this together like always right?"
"Right. Thanks Nick, you're the best. I can't wait for you and Jess to get married." Nick gave Matt a hug, it support of his nerves and to calm his own.
The Wedding
Matt walked down the aisle and saw Nick already at the front smiling, the room was beautiful, very vintage and traditional, and it was a great mix of Nick and Jess. He winked at him, and Matt continued with a bigger smile on his face.
When all the wedding party had gotten to the front, the music changed and everyone rose, the door opened and Jess walked in on the arm of her father. Matt looked at Nick's face and saw pure love, he then knew he had had nothing to worry about; even if something had gone wrong that wasn't the point. But the love shared by two of the most important people in his life.
End Flashback
"So Kate even if you trip or something I won't mind, all I care about is being with everyone I love and care about, them being up there with me when I'm marrying the love of my life. You don't think Lilly's nervous about being a bridesmaid or don't think I'm as nervous s as your dad was? Everything is going to be great, and you are going to look and be amazing."
"Really, thanks Matt" As the hugged Nick and Jess walked through the door, "Sweetie we're home. Were you good for Matt?"
"Yeah she was great, anyway now your back Sam's waiting for me she wants to pick out china patterns."
"Ah the china patterns I remember that." Jess elbowed Nick in the chest and gave him the 'look', he stopped laughing.
"Anyway, bye Kate, love you. You guys still alright for tomorrow, dads said to be there for about 2"
"Yeah love a good BBQ, I can't believe it will be the last family get together that you're not married, you've grown up so fast."
"Nick are you crying?"
"No…" Nick mumbled as he took the stuff him and Jess bought to the kitchen.
"Bye Nick, bye Jess see you tomorrow." Matt gave Kate and Jess another hug and left. "So what were you and Matt talking about?"
"Just the wedding, I was sort of nervous about being flower girl, he calmed me down he was telling me about being page boy at yours and dads wedding."
"Ah yeah he looked so cute, and so will you."
"Thanks mom." She gave her mom a hug, "anyway I'll go start tea do you want to help your dad set the table?" "Sure thing"
Later that evening
Nick and Jess were lying in bed just talking about the day's events. "Can you believe Matt's going to be married in 3 weeks?"
"I know, it's amazing but kind of scary. He grew up so fast. I hope Kate stays 10 forever I don't think I can cope with her getting married."
"You've got awhile until that Nick." They both started laughing about it, after they calmed down a comfortable silence fell between them.
"Hey, I can still remember the day Matt finally asked Sam out, I can't believe it took him until he was 17, he had been in love with her forever."
"I just remember how nervous he was I had never seen him so bad. It was adorable though. Their whole story is adorable, being friends all their lives, falling in love and getting married it's what the best stories are made of."
"Well Jess I don't know, I think ours is still pretty great, I mean falling in love with your Nephew's new teacher who would have thought?"
"You make a good point" Jess leaned over and kissed Nick, "I think we're all pretty lucky finding that one person we love more than anything."
"That is true, you know these last 13 years have been the best of my whole life and I couldn't imagine it without you in it."
"I love you Nick."
"I love you too Jess"
And they were right, whatever your story is if you are lucky enough to find that one person you love more than anything hold onto it, you have your own story and it is your own fairy-tale to live.
Well it's finally finished.
