A week travelled quickly as the young men and woman came to visit their old teacher everyday, as much as they could. The blond came in both mornings and evenings. He read the story softly to his lover, taking their moments together, as Yamato escorted the vampire to the next wand.
It was the last day, the last chapter, by tomorrow, the silver haired ex-shinobi has heard and seen the seven endings that he could choose from. "Yamato," Kakashi called as the man was raising the wood. The latter was stunned, almond eyes widen, as the man never called him correctly since he was assigned the said name.
"Hai, senpai?"
The silver haired shinobi continued, "An-san," he looked aside, as he could not focus, but only seeing a glimpse of white of the vampire's hospital gown. "Please listen to the last part of the story."
An did not say a word but remained still on his bed. Yamato grabbed a stool next to the bed and sat down, shooting a questionable look to his senior.
Naruto slid opened the door and looked at his lover and then acknowledged the presence of his taicho and the vampire. He hesitated, but nonetheless, picked up his last pages and read out the words that he has written as he thought of his lover.
An closed his eyes as Naruto described the priest's conversion. Indeed, that was what he has thought of, though, on the other hand, he doubted it would be the case. As after all, Naruto was a Namikaze, so it would easier for him to follow his grand-uncle's, Kazuhiko's path and extend his life's span in a mortal way, not an immortal, cold and possible heartless creature as them. But, letting the priest to join the Sasaki, keeping him with the clan might not be what exactly on his mind. Instead, he liked the way that as the legend was told. Maybe he would be better for Kakashi and Naruto to form a team to travel around to elminiate the unwise vampire and the bad-manner clansman, just like the priests of the Konoha or even his own private unit would have done. Yet, the ANBU style would not be suitable for the younger blond, for which he never throught of taking him into his own unit, unlike how he took Yamato and Sai in.
"Then, they would live happily ever after…" as Naruto closed his pages, An managed to held back his burst of laugh. He would not think of using the words "happily ever after," but then it kind of making sense, in the sense that it was a fairytale, or at least fairytale to be, same way as the anicent one thousand and one night story, that was told by the clever young woman in order to keep herself alive in the cruelest part of the palace.
Naruto stepped forward and placed the pages on the bedside he could say anything, a messenger robin flew in. he ignored it and within a minute, another one flew in. The two birds chatted impatiently, waiting to deliver their messages.
"Go on," Kakashi said weakly. "Daiymo is waiting, the Hokage cannot let him wait."
"But…"
"Yamato, please escort Nanadaime to his office. Please do this for me, kohai."
Yamato sniffed, "no need to say "please", my senpai, it's never your thing and were you not ordering me for life?" He stood up and stepped next to Naruto with his right hand on the latter's left shoulder. "Hokage-sama, let's go. I am sure that senpai promised to wait and he would. He would only be late and claimed to be loss in the journey of life."
"That's true… Ah…" the blond took a deep breathe, "I am waiting for you Kakashi, don't go without saying goodbye."
"I promised," Kakashi smiled weakly.
Naruto pulled a rather painful grin, placed a gentle peak on the silver haired forehead and then disappeared with Yamato.
Kakashi turned to the vampire, "An san…."
"I know," An pulled the pen from his bedside drawers and dipped into the inkpot. "Your choice?"
"Nottt… n-not sure yet… You?"
"I shouldn't tell you, should I? After all, I am one of the characters between the pages."
"That's why you should tell me. I am keen to know. Aren't you the vampire clan leader? Your decision affects the young pair, wouldn't it?"
"That's true. But you know Kakashi-kun, my intention was not included here, not with what Naruto-kun could ever think of, even though I would say "happily ever after". What's more important than that?"
"Happily… ever…. After…" Kakashi murmured, accompanied with a soft sigh, "but not for a dying man like me…" He took a small breath. "Very well," Kakashi continued, "please help me to edit the pages as the last chapter decided." He passed the pages to the vampire, but as the vampire reached out, the pages slowly swinging down on the floor, passed through the vampire hand.
"I am getting more transparent, am I?"
"I think so…" the silver haired man replied. "I thought it was my sight."
"Both are, I suppose."
"Guess then I cannot reply on you to keep him and Kurama in tact." He countered bitterly. "I am worried, if I am being honest to myself. One way, I don't want to go this early. I cannot leave him behind… I…" he sighed. "I have been around him for so long, even when he did not aware. I remembered every single moments that I have shared with him. The time when he was still an infant, I visited him secretly, looking at him through the window, after my missions, when I was covered in blood. I saw his smile, casting warmly to my ghosting shadows, as well as Tenzo's cat face… sometimes… Then, nothing I can do when he was isolated in Iruka-kun's class. All I could was buying instant ramens and placed them outside of his door. I read, cleaned my armour on top of the trees where he played alone. I never thought deep as life for a shinobi was short… Never thought of anything other than the fact that he was Minato sensei's son… the only son and the only thing that sensei has left to me… the remained family…"
An spoke nothing, took a piece of tissue paper and gently, swiped Kakashi's face.
"I don't want to let go… I am so in love with him that I don't even know how I can express my feelings… There isn't simply any words that I can sum up my feelings…" Kakashi sighed as he paused for breathe. "I love him… truly…"
Author's Note
Ah... last time when I wrote Naruto's death, I wrote it in half a day... this time when I write Kakashi's death... it has been dragging for sooooo long... sigh... maybe it was easier to write Naruto's death?! (Naruto: hey, dude... this is not funny and it just has been my birthday!)
Nonetheless, I hope you, my readers, have enjoyed(?!) the chapter.
