Chapter 23:The Enchanted Arm
I put the fainted Toya in the living room's sofa. He's a bit heavy.
Sigh…
I don't know that he was so scared. I should told him to stay in his room instead. That ghost… I actually don't think that it was a ghost. I think the shadow is human's. It couldn't possibly a ghost, because I can hear a tiny creak sound. Do ghosts walk by their feet? I think no.
Man, what should I do now? Toya fainted and it's just me in this house. Hmm… Maybe I should help him finding the video cam. I walk to the warehouse again, I search for the light switch. Darn, I never can find the switch.
I touch something that feel like a switch, so I turn it up. Thus, I can hear the click sound. Yes, the same click sound I heard just before, also the same sound when I accidentally turned the wrong switch on. I certain that this click sound is connected with the mystery of Chitose.
I tap the wall several times until I find another switch again. Finally, I can find it, it's on the higher position. Now I know the reason I never found the light switch is because I'm shorter than Toya. I still need to stand on my tiptoe to reach the light switch. After the light turns on, I choose a box to check. I start from the nearest, with number 22 on it.
Fuh, I already open 6 boxes, yet there's nothing. Just books. I grab the number 60 and suddenly Toya calls.
"Did you check these boxes when I was fainted?" He seems shock.
"Yes. But I haven't found the video cam." I start to move the number 60 down to the floor.
"H-how did you…"
"How did I what?" I touch the box and suddenly the box open. So I check what is inside easily. Not like Toya's idea of slamming the box.
"My! Y-your hand! It absorbs the box's ether!"
I don't understand what he says.
"Atsuma! Your right arm is absorbing ether." He points at my right arm. "Do you know that the boxes are protected with ether?"
"Maybe. So what?" Hmm… heard of it before from Toya, but maybe I was daydreaming when he told me that.
"Atsuma, as an enchanter, we have a power to create ether. Not to absorb it."
"Well, I'm not an enchanter."
"That's not the point. Nobody in this world can absorb ether." His tone seems excited. "It's incredible! Let me see your hand first."
He wants to grab my right arm, at that moment I remember about Sage told Kenta about his power on my dream. I draw my right arm far from Toya.
"Atsuma?"
"Ah…" I let out an awkward sigh, "Um… I think you shouldn't touch my right arm."
"Why not?" He protests.
"Um… I think that if you touch me, you won't be able to enchant again." I rub my own arm.
"What? That's silly." He tries to reach my arm again.
"Wait! Look at the boxes. It lost the ether when I touch it."
Toya looks at the six boxes that I touches earlier. He examine them carefully.
"You're right. The ether is completely gone. The boxes look death." He turns to look at me, "Atsuma, don't touch another box again. If you absorb all the boxes' ethers, Chitose must become suspicious on us both. I'll find a way to transfer ether to these six boxes. Oh, by the way, have you found the video cam?"
"Not yet. Hmm… I haven't search on this one."
"Ok, you search that one and I'll search…" He touches a box numbered 35 and slams it. "This one…"
Sigh, that's Toya.
A few moment has passed, we haven't found any video cam. I'm ready to give up for today. Looks like Toya also tired already. He slammed lots of boxes and use his enchantment to create a new box over and over again. He looks rather pale now.
"Maybe we should stop for today." He says.
I nod agree. We puts the boxes in their place like before. The box feels really heavy than ever, but we still manage it. Then, we go out to living room. We lay on the thick red carpet.
Ahh… I can feel heaven on this carpet. I feel kindda sleepy, but I don't want to sleep just yet, because it'll be lunch soon. I wonder when Chitose will come back. Hope it's not too late. Because she just cooked lunch for us. We must wait for her to cook the dinner for us.
I look at Toya, he closes his eyes, like he's sleeping. I want to ask him about lunch, but I choose not now. Maybe after ten minutes, I'll ask him. We need rest first. So I, too, close my eyes for a while, until…
"Hey…" Toya calls.
"What?" I still close my eyes.
"Do you think that we can find a video cam in 'that' room?"
"I don't think so." Still closing my eyes.
"You know, she may be doing some experiment on 'that' room. Golem experiment."
"How can you say so?" I open my eyes upon hearing Golem.
"I don't know. I had a feeling. Just like you did this morning."
We keep silence for a moment. I want to ask him about lunch time, but I think it's not the right time. Instead, I keep silence.
"Do you trust me?" Toya sits.
"Trust what?" I raise my head to see him.
"About my feeling." He smiles.
"A bit." I lower my head, feel uneasy to his question.
He still smiles, then he says, "Do you hungry? Let's eat"
Finally, lunch time. I know that he will ask me about this. Still, I feel uneasy with His question, also his smile gives me shiver.
