Chapter 31: Brand New Day
In the afternoon, we already calmed down. Primrose and Sebastian serve each of us a cup of tea and a piece of cheese cake they baked this morning. The tea calms our hearts more and the cheese cakes give us strengths.
"It's perfect, Primrose, Sebastian." Says Chitose.
"Yes, it's really delicious." I say.
"Thank you Primrose and Sebastian." Says Toya.
This is our first afternoon tea together. I won't forget about this day too. The taste of the tea and the cheese cake will always remain in my mouth.
"I'll help you, Chitose." Toya says out of sudden. "I'll have you with your research. It's my big brother's hope, so it's also my hope to finish his research."
Chitose smiles again. I can't tell whether she happy or sad, or perhaps both.
"You know what, after I finish with this Golem thingy, I want to go back to Yokohama. I want to become a professor in the university. I want to tell people about this research and make people know more about the Ancient. You two are welcome to follow me in Yokohama, if you want to." Chitose gives the most beautiful smile for us.
"Of course. Of course, I will, Chitose." Without any thinking, Toya says it out loud. "How about you, Atsuma? Sure you will come along with us, right?"
I have Sage. I still have many question to ask, I want to come along you guys, but I'm afraid Sage will feel lonely without me. But I really love Chitose and Toya. They're my new family now. If I go with Sage, Toya probably will become lonely. I still can't decide which the best is.
"It's Ok. Give him time to think, Toya" Says Chitose.
"But…" Toya hasn't finish his line.
"Oh yes, I forget to say sorry to frightened you at the warehouse. No wonder you wouldn't come out from your room for such a long time. Thank god, Atsuma came to the rescue." She changes the subject.
"Hey, you told me that Toya locked himself because he felt sad of what happened to his family and village." I feel Chitose lied to me.
She laughs. "If I told you he locked himself because there's a ghost in the warehouse, probably you would locked up yourself too." Sounds reasonable. "Yet, Seiji have important documents and his things in there. If Toya found that out, he would ask me anything I know about Seiji. If I told him the truth, he must be really upset and maybe would run away from this house. You are my responsibility. No, you are Seiji's beloved brother and so you too are my beloved little brother. I couldn't let you know about Seiji's death just yet. I wish until I've finished our precious research, you still don't know anything about Seiji. And when I finished, I will take you to Yokohama and tell you the truth. If you feel down, at least Yokohama has a lot of entertainments you can play with." She slurps her chamomile tea.
"But it seems you determine to find out the truth. I know it will turn out this way when I watch the videos. But I let you two be. I think that was a great solution too. To learn the truth slowly." She then eats her last piece of cheese cake. "But one thing that I miscalculated is that you opened the lab. I know you were in quest to find some video camera to spy me, but I thought that you would searched the boxes instead." She lets out a slight despair sigh. "I knew it, I should locked it. But I'm too lazy to lock it. "She murmurs to herself.
"But it was a perfect timing. You rescued us." I say.
"It was close. My phone rang because Sebastian called me. He knows who you are so he didn't attack you, instead he called me to come home as quick as possible. After that, I ran all the way to here. It was very exhausted day." Chitose pour herself a new cup of tea. "Well, atleast, I don't have to sneak around in the midnight to do my research in my own lab anymore."
"Sorry…" Toya and I both say it together.
She laughs and pats our head several times. "Anyway, I need to go too today. I'm going to Grave Keeper's Village again. I almost done with my research."
I want to ask her whether I can go with her, but she seems already read my mind. I haven't speak yet, yet she says I should stay in here and gives us a very important task.
"This is Seiji's video camera. He brought it with him the day he died, I bet there's something important in here. I don't have time to watch it, could you guys help with to watch it? And tell me what's inside later?" She smiles.
Who can resist her lovely smile? Toya and I agree to do the research on video, but she promised that she will take us to London City next week. We are so excited, and do our best for this research. Maybe I can't be any great help, but I'll always be with them.
From this day, it is a brand new day for us. We become closer than before. We have important things to do besides "destroying" Chitose's boxes, planning on spying Chitose, or whatever silly thing that comes on our mind. I'll do my best to help them, before thinking whether I should go back to Sage's or stay with Chitose and Toya.
