Chapter 11 The Reveal
The next morning Lacey woke up as the sun was coming up. She stretched out her arms and lightly tapped the wall behind her as she stretched. Lacey sat up her covers still on her as she blinked a few times to bring her vision into focus. She swung her legs over the side of her bed, stood up, and staggered over to her closet. Lacey grabbed her school uniform and walked in front of her mirror. As she changed into her clothes a thought entered her mind. "I wonder how everyone will react to me being asked out by Jose, and I wonder what my mom thinks about him." Lacey quickly put on her choker and took a quick glance at the photo strips. Lacey then walked out of her room closing the door behind her and went downstairs.
Lacey's mom was sitting at the table reading the paper and eating her breakfast. Lacey walked around the kitchen fixing her breakfast and sat down across from her mom. The rest of the morning was silent as the two ate their breakfasts. Lacey finished hers and put the dishes in the sink and hugged her mother as she headed for the door. "Have a good day sweetie" her mother said smiling as Lacey walked towards the door. "Tell Jose I said good morning would you" she asked as Lacey slid on her shoes. Lacey smiled at the comment and responded, "I will mom, and have a great day yourself." Lacey opened the door and waited by the front gate for Jose.
Lacey waited and soon she could see Jose coming down the street. She smiled as he came closer and her heart raced with every step he took."What is this feeling? Why is my heart racing" she thought as he drew closer. Jose stopped at the front gate and said, "Good morning Lacey." Lacey smiled and returned the greeting. Jose extended his hand and they walked to school hand in hand. They passed a little flower shop and a family bakery that still had the "Sorry we're closed" signs showing through the doors. After a few more minutes the school building came into view. As they came closer to the school building Lacey began to think, "I wonder how long it will take for the questions to start."
The two walked through the main gate of the school and people looked at them with either disgust or with a sweet smile. Jose and Lacey walked into the school building, and exchanged their shoes and hugged each other and agreed to meet on the roof for lunch before heading to their classes.
Lacey reached her classroom and slid the door open slowly and instantly she was met with question after question. Lacey walked into the room slowly trying to answer the questions and finally sat down at her desk before answering them all. The questions ranged from "Who is the guy" to "Are you two going steady?" The thought of a steady relationship made Lacey blush but, it made her nervous too. Lacey pulled out her books from her bag and started getting ready for the day. Suddenly the classroom door burst open and a familiar voice echoed through the room. "Butts in seats!" the voice said loudly as Ms..NA walked through the door carrying her usual notepad. Once Ms. NA reached the front of the room she slammed the notepad down on the podium in front of her. "All right everyone it's finals time and I expect you to do well on all your exams" she said with a devilish smile. With the announcement came a collective groan. The day had started and many of Lacey's fellow students were worried about the exams before they even began.
The teachers didn't teach anything new instead they reviewed the material for the exam or they gave a study hour. Lacey was not concerned or paying attention since she took good notes and she had been studying for this for the past few weeks. Her mind was set on lunchtime and time with Jose.
The lunch bell finally rang and Lacy wasted no time getting to the roof. She had bought lunch for both her and Jose and sat on the bench on the roof for him. He came through the door and smiled when he saw Lacey. The two of them sat on the roof and talked about things they liked to do or even things that they were curious about. Jose liked to draw and write, and Lacey liked to make crafts and read. Jose smiled and wrapped his arm around Lacey and pulled her close. Lacey blushed at the action but relaxed her head on his shoulder and breathed lightly. The two sat there silent for a few minutes and Jose broke the silence by asking, "What do you want to do for our second date?" Lacey stayed where she was and whispered, "Surprise me again" Jose smiled and nodded. The bell rang again signaling the end of lunch and the two hugged each other before departing back to their classrooms.
After lunch there was only one class left and Lacey was ready to turn in her project. Ms. Mash walked into the classroom and said "Everyone I decided to make the projects due tomorrow since today we don't have time to present them." Some of the class cheered and others were irritated. Lacey just sat in her seat and listened to the lesson and waited for the class to be over.
Once the class was over Lacey walked up to Ms. Mash and smiled. She put her project in Ms. Mash's hands and said, "I'm finished with it and I created a couple characters and a story to go with it." Ms. Mash smiled. "I see, well I'll go ahead and take it off your hands then." Lacey smiled and told Ms. Mash all about her first date and that her and Jose had a second date planned and that she was extremely happy. Ms. Mash smiled and giggled "I'm glad to see you so happy, It's been a while since I've seen a smile on your face. I've missed it" she said. Lacey laughed and said goodbye and headed home.
