Stephanie's PoV
Well, there's no two ways about it, we're all going to have to leave this place. It was really nice seeing it again, even in this state, but saving the universe comes first. After dinner, I decided to go to the wreck of the Royal Offices, after all, this is apparently where I lived. After looking around, I found an old iron box that was very heavy, like it had something big inside. I wrenched it open and found the weirdest machine I had ever seen. It looked like a keyboard or a synthesizer or something along that line, but it also had parts that made it look like a guitar. I turned it over and saw the initials S.S scratched onto it. S.S must have been Simon Spyderr, my dad. Notch, I don't remember anything about him, apart from him being really nice. I turned the machine over again, right side up, and stared at it. Dad would want me to have this, whatever it was. I put it under my arm, and walked back to the ruined apartments where we were all packing up. I walked into the garage on the ground floor, where Vanessa was working.
''Yo, Vanessa! Do you know where my toolbox is?'' I called to my sister, who was frantically trying to put together a new design for a cart. A little too frantically if you ask me.
''It's right here, sorry, I had to use a couple of wrenches to tighten these wheels.'' she called back quickly, it sounded like she was on a sugar rush or something, she was not slowing down at all! For the love of Jeb, has she been eating cookies again?
''What's the rush there, Van? You might want to slow down and think about what you're doing before you end up trying to drive it and it all falls apart.'' I said back to her to pick up my toolbox.
''Cant talk, trying to preserve my place as queen of minecarts, and no steampunk human girl is going to take that away! I'm totally going to one-up her with this! Oh, and I can't slow down, I drank too much coffee.''
''Coffee? You know what that stuff does to you! Just… try and think about how you're going to build this, you won't want it to not work right in front of Sera and everyone else, then she'll definitely be better than you.''
Vanessa just stared off into space for a few seconds, then turned back to me.
''C'mon, use that big spider brain of yours. Just slow down and you'll be fine.''
''Okay.'' she said and started to look over what she had already built. I just sat down and pulled out a file from my toolbox, and turned over the machine to show the initials roughly and jaggedly carved into it. I took the file and rounded out the two S's till they were much more smooth and feminine. Not S.S for Simon Spyderr, S.S for Stephanie Spyderr. Looks better this way anyway.
''Hey, what are you doing up this late?'' I looked over and saw Yaebi walk in.
''I could ask you the same question.'' I said to him.
''Well, I found this, and I was just…y'know…''
Yaebi looked over and saw my machine. ''Wow, is that a keytar? I've never seen a real one of those, just on TV and stuff. It's really old-school, like 80's old-school, but you look pretty good with it.''
''Aww, thanks.'' I couldn't help but blush.
''Do you know how to play it?''
''Not really, I didn't even know what it was until just now.'' I told him. ''Do you know how it works?''
''Not entirely, but I know how to play a keyboard and a guitar, so it shouldn't be too hard. C'mon, it's a little cold in here, it'll be better upstairs.''
As we walked back, I tripped on something and fell into Yaebi's arms. He helped me back up, but we couldn't stop staring into each other's eyes. They were so beautifully green, I just didn't want to look away… I could tell he felt the same way about me.
''WHAT?! AWW SHIT! I FORGOT THE AXLE BOLTS? HOW THE FUCK IS THING GONNA STAY IN ONE PIECE WITHOUT THOSE? THANK NOTCH YOU TOLD ME, SIS!'' Vanessa yelled at the top of her voice. From the tone of her voice I could tell it was partly due to her anger that she had been to careless, and partly to snap us back to reality.
''Well, I'm going to my room. Stop by if you want me to help you with your keytar.''
''Okay.'' I told him, and went off upstairs too. I should really tell him about how I feel, or maybe I'll wait, after all that's his job. I hope nobody else knows about us, or they'll never let up. Surely romance isn't that hard, is it?
