A/N: Alright here it is. I apologize for this taking so long, what with the holidays and finishing exams I've had barely any time to write. I'll admit I probably will rewrite this chapter at some point later on but for now I think it's fine for now. I would like to take a moment and thank the ever brilliant Isis Lied for her assistance on this chapter. Please enjoy and review. I do not own blue exorcist or its characters; only the characters I made up.
Chapter 3
"Where the hell am I?"
I stared up at the ceiling and blinked in confusion.
"Oh yeah, Satan's spawn…" I grunted as I sat up and leaned my back against the head board. I looked at the clock on the night dresser next to me and realized I had only slept two hours. It was now dark outside and the reddish moonlight shone through the curtains of the balcony opening.
I sighed and decided that I might as well get up if I couldn't sleep anymore. It seemed like a good idea to explore a little, perhaps look for escape routes if needed.
I lifted my arms to stretch, but found that my left arm wouldn't budge. I tugged and pulled at it but only got a strong squeeze in retaliation. I assumed that my arm might've gotten caught in the covers and lifted them in an attempt to free myself.
I made some kind of strange noise; a weird combination of a gasp and a grunt and held my nose between my fingers. A blush painted my face and my eyebrows creased.
He looked up at me with the innocence of a baby cait sith with the same aseptic intensity.
"Good morning Nee-Chan"
Amaimon sat up on his knees and stared at me like he had in the carriage; shirtless I might add.
I looked back at him, my eyebrows furrowing in irritation and annoyance at his intrusion.
"What the living gehenna do you think you're doing in my bed?" I said through gritted teeth. He blinked at me and rather suddenly wrapped his arms around my neck tightly, his face centimeters from mine.
"I was hungry" he said simply. "And bored" he moved slightly closer to my face but stopped when we felt the bed shift.
Samael arose from the covers looking disgruntled, as if I was the one intruding on him, and turned to us. Oh yeah, he was also shirtless.
"You two are so noisy" His frown instantly disappeared and slowly turned into a grin when he noticed our current position.
"You'd better not me be trying to start without me~" He scooted closer to me and wrapped his arms around my neck in the same position as Amaimon.
"Now, who would you like first?" Samael asked, rubbing his nose slightly against my cheek.
My blush deepened but my anger did not decrease. Of course, I had always been curious about these kind of…ahem, proceedings but this was hardly the time. I had enough on my plate trying to cope with the fact that my whole life had been a lie and to be honest…I had little to no experience with these kinds of situations.
"Anuie I want to go first" Amaimon said and clenched me tighter.
"Now now Amaimon, she has plenty of warmth"
I don't suppose I have any say in this?
"She smells really nice Anuie"
"That she does~"
"Her breasts are kind of small though…"
Alright, I've had enough.
"Get off" I said and pushed them off. "I'm not your food. If you're that hungry go find someone else"
I went back under the covers in a huff and shut my eyes tightly in annoyance. I could only hope they would go away but just my luck, they didn't.
"I think we made her mad Anuie"
"Aw, she's just embarrassed~" Samael mocked and rubbed where my back extruded from the covers.
Get the hell off of me you freaking perv-
"However as gentlemen, we should reimburse her with a favor"
Last time I checked, gentlemen don't show up in other women's beds.
"Come Freja. We shall show you around the castle!" he said, more so demanding it than offering.
I peeked my head out of the covers and squinted my eyes at his smirking mug.
"Huh?"
He laid down on his side, propping his head up with his palm and elbow.
"I believe you were getting up to explore weren't you? And besides…" he smirked and tilted my chin slightly with his forefinger.
"A cute girl like you shouldn't be walking around alone~"
My face turned all shades of red and I huffed under the covers again, this time more flustered than embarrassed. After a few moments I came to the conclusion that it would be more beneficial to have someone show me around instead of walking around aimlessly. Even if it was with a couple of perverted incubi. But how did he know I was going to explore?
I poked my head out of the covers again.
"Fine. But no tricks" I said sternly and my eyebrows furrowed.
He smirked a bit wider and poofed clothes on himself and Amaimon. "I wouldn't dream of it"
Freaking perverted incubus.
"How did I get myself into this?" I thought to myself as I tried to recall the day's earlier events. It was difficult to think however, with Samael's constant blather about the castle's interior design.
"The symbols on the ceiling were created and engraved by ancient scholars who studied the demonic…"
We were in the middle of the foyer; Samael explaining the origins of the ceiling above us for some unknown reason that I didn't care about and Amaimon looking indifferent as always. When I said I had questions, that wasn't exactly what I had in mind.
"Wait" I said before he went out of my bedroom door. "I have questions"
He grinned, almost like the Cheshire cait sith, and turned slightly. "We all have questions, my dear" he said and came closer to me, his face centimeters from mine.
"However it's up to you whether you get them answered or not"
Did he always talk in riddles? As frustrated as I was with his answer, I thought it would do me good to get to know the castle a little. However, I desperately hoped that we didn't run into father as we explored. I also hoped that Clair, who I had noticed a while ago was missing from my bedroom, was safe.
"Come now, this way~" Samael said and led us towards a door to the left. We went through quite a few hallways, most of which were empty, save for a few mysterious doors here and a servant or two cleaning something there. Eventually, we made it to a larger door and stepped inside.
I almost stepped back in awe as millions and millions of books encased my vision. They were everywhere; on shelves, on tables, and even a few misplaced on the floor. Somehow the light green wallpaper blended perfectly with the quiet atmosphere.
I was way more intrigued than I should have been. It was a simple library, though a lot bigger than ones I'd ever seen. Perhaps it was because I had so little books at home, that seeing this many books made me almost giddy. And better yet, I could find information on Assiah and at least find out where it is.
I walked in further and stared back and forth between the shelves next to me, not knowing where I wanted to start first. I reached out slowly to grab one off the shelf, until I heard a voice behind me.
"Good evening big brother" Cepheid said from behind us. I retracted my hand and turned to see Cepheid and Azazel siting at a small nearby table; Cepheid resting his cheek casually on his palm with that sweet smile of his and Azazel reading some other kind of book with as much expression as Amaimon.
"Good evening to you too Cepheid. And how are you two getting along~?" Samael said and grinned charismatically.
"Oh just fine Anuie" he shifted his eyes towards me and smiled.
"And how are you Freja?"
"Damn he's so nice it's sickening" I thought. It wasn't as if I didn't appreciate his friendliness; it was a lot better than Lucifer's warm welcome. However his sort of pleasant aura was almost unsettling. As if something sinister was lying underneath his smile.
I took all of my thoughts as just being paranoid and responded with a "fine" with as least of a frown as I could manage.
He smiled slightly wider but his eyebrows furrowed a bit when he glanced over at Azazel, who still had not looked up from his book.
Samael followed Cepheid's gaze and smirked slightly.
"You don't seem to happy Azazel. Why the long face~?"
Azazel's eye twitched a bit as he lowered his book ever so slightly and glanced in Samael's direction, his eyebrows creasing.
"I apologize that I haven't been in the best of moods since I discovered I was the son of the devil"
My ear twitched slightly as I heard his words. To be honest, I hadn't given much thought to the others and how they got here. I had assumed that they had lived here all their lives and I just didn't get the memo. Perhaps they were taken from their homes too?
My head began to hurt again and I forgot about it. At the very least, I was happy to know I wasn't the only sarcastic demon around here.
"Oh come now, it's not all that bad~" he said and winked. I swear to Satan, I saw that star next to his face again.
Azazel grimaced slightly and looked back to his book pages.
"Whether it's bad or not, I'm not going to pretend to be happy about it" at the end of his sentence he glared back at Samael, in almost what looked like malice. Samael just smiled playfully and chuckled darkly.
Their staring contest when on for what seemed like forever and I started to become a bit uncomfortable. Even Cepheid's smile slanted slightly and he looked to the empty space of the table in front of him. Amaimon didn't seem to care too much and just stared blankly at Samael.
My back stiffened and I jolt of electricity went up my spine. My head throbbed faintly and my heart pounded. This was an all too familiar sensation and my eyes widened.
Clair
I gritted my teeth and noticed that everyone's eyes were now on me. Cepheid looked at me questionably and furrowed his eyebrows in concern.
"What's wrong Freja?"
I didn't even glance at him and screwed my eyes shut and tried to sense where Clair might be. Through our contract, I am able to feel the general location of where she is at all times. However through our contract, I also have a type of alert system that occurs whenever she is in any physical danger.
My eyes opened again suddenly and I looked past Azazel into nothing.
"Shit" I muttered and sprinted out the door as fast as I could. I didn't know whether Samael or Amaimon followed after me and at the moment I didn't care.
I raced through the hallways trying to remember the way Samael led me through. After a few dead ends and sharp turns I made it back to the foyer and peered every which way to see if I could spot Clair.
"Damnit where is she?!" I thought in a panic.
"In front of you, you idiot"
I froze in place and looked around again. It was definitely a woman's voice but I had yet to see even one woman in this entire castle. But then I thought that I hadn't heard out loud but in my head. I had been there for only a few hours and already I was losing my mind.
"Hello?" I questioned out loud. No answer.
"In front of me?" I thought and looked in the direction that the voice had instructed. No one answered but I noticed at the opposite end of the castle door was another small door leading to Satan knows where. I ran over to it and put my ear to the door to get any clues on what was behind it. The pain in my head subsided, meaning Clair was close by.
"Just eat her already Astaroth" a voice said. "We don't have all day"
Though his voice was muffled the arrogant tone in his voice made it clear who it was.
Lucifer
"Shut up. I'm thinking I want to gut her first" a different voice said behind the door. It was about as deep as Azazel's and there was a chilling, almost lyrical tone in his voice.
When I look back on it now, I realize it probably would've been better if I had come up with a plan to confront him in the case he was stronger and/or bigger than me. Unfortunately it was clear that my rational mind went south when I slammed the door open.
I didn't really have time to look around at what kind of room I was in since I immediately ran straight for Clair. I almost skidded right in front of her and felt cold metal sink into my right shoulder as I grabbed what's his name's wrist.
I took a split second to look around and figure out exactly where I was. It looked like some sort of kitchen; a freakishly large kitchen. Silver painted cabinets lined all around the walls above black wood counters that matched the long table that went from one end of the room to the other.
Lucifer was sitting in one of the table chairs, his legs crossed and his usual glare he always gave me ever present. There was another man sitting next to him, his face as vacant as Amaimon's. He had short blonde hair that barely went over his eyes and some sort of weird noble blue tux on. I didn't pay him much mind but I noted for now, I'd call him Blondie.
I returned my attention back to the bastard in front of me and my teeth clenched.
"Sorry buddy" I said to his surprised face. "Contracted"
I winced slightly as I pushed his wrist back and removed the blade from my shoulder.
"Freja…!" Clair said from behind me and clutched my jean leg. I turned my head and glared at her with probably the most disappointed and annoyed look that rivaled my mother's. Her smile from seeing me quickly turned into an upset frown and she looked to the ground. I would deal with her later.
I turned my head again to face stabby mcstab stab, of whose features kind of freaked me out.
His hair was a very odd light purplish color that stretched just below his chin. He had curled horns on the sides of his head like Azazel, only his had crimson tips.
"And who the hell are you supposed to be?" I said in the most dead pan tone I could muster. I honestly didn't care too much but I wanted to know exactly what sick bastard was into cannibalism. Seriously eating another demon? I don't even think Satan does that.
His surprised expression instantly turned into a sly grin, one that almost matched Samael's, and he leaned closer to me that are faces were barely an inch away.
"Well aren't you a cutie~" he said and put his hand on either side of the counted behind me, trapping me between his arms. I really tried not to crush Clair between my legs and the counter but I was trying to keep my face as far from his as possible.
"The name's Astaroth" he said and gave a toothy grin. "But I think a better question would be is why are you protecting a human?"
A raised an eyebrow at him. I had no idea what a…what did he call it? A human?
"As I said…" I said and put my palm to his face. "I'm contracted. Now get off of me before I rip your damn balls off"
He chuckled at this and came a bit closer. "I'd rather you kiss me instead~" he said and pressed slightly more into my palm.
My face was probably a deep crimson by then and I tried to push him further away from me. I was close to punching him in the face but Lucifer interrupted.
He put his hand on Astaroth's shoulder. "Astaroth-
"Ah here's where you ran off to" Samael said from the door with his hand on his hip and Amaimon standing behind him.
Astaroth turned his head in my palm; his eyes widened but his grin didn't leave his face.
"Ah, good evening prince" he said and stood straight up again, his arms still trapping me against the counter.
Samael smirked, more darkly than usual, and stepped forward in front of us, glancing down.
"Having fun I see Astaroth?" he questioned as if that was the most casual position he'd ever seen. Astaroth, now without my palm to block him, pushed his cheek against mine.
"Lots~"
Samael chuckled. "Regardless, your presence is requested in the throne room. I wouldn't recommend keeping father waiting"
Astaroth frowned ever so slightly at this, but seemed to perk right back up and stepped away from me. He sighed dramatically but turned to face the door.
"Fine, Come on Beelzebub" Blondie stood from his chair and walked with Astaroth out the door.
As happy as I was that the pervy bastard was gone, I still had this other pervy bastard and Clair to yell at. In a matter of fact, I was going to get right on that.
I turned to her with as much irritation in my eyes that I think I've ever had and crossed my arms. She shrunk away farther into the counter corner and looked to the floor.
I took a deep breath through my nose and tried to calm myself before speaking. However what I was thinking in my head didn't exactly correspond with what I actually said.
"Clair, why did you leave the room?"
"What the fuck Clair?!"
She glanced up at me hesitantly and pushed her fingers together. "I…was hungry"
"Oh yes…I forgot you need to eat regularly…" I said and put my hand to my forehead.
"That's no damn excuse to go around in an unfamiliar castle without me!"
"And you wouldn't wake up…"
"I see."
"You gave me a fucking heart attack!"
"I'm sorry Freja…"
I sighed again and bent down on my knees to her level and patted her head.
"It's alright. But don't go anywhere without me" She perked right up and hugged me around the neck. I spoil her ass way too much.
"Not again…"
"These paintings were created by Gehenna's finest…"
I had escorted Clair back to my room with some bread and let her go back to sleep. Meanwhile, I was in some kind of gallery hall with Samael and Amaimon once again being lectured on something of unimportance. I probably would've stayed in my room if Amaimon hadn't forcibly dragged me.
"Come nee-Chan" He grabbed my arm and dragged me out of my room as Samael closed the door behind us.
"But-"
"Come now, Freja. We have much more to explore!" Samael grabbed my other arm and the both of them dragged me downstairs against my will.
After more lecturing we eventually came to an open door. I peeked inside at what looked like some sort of training room. There were punching bags scattered everywhere and range targets and other such things.
I heard a thump and saw Iblis in the far left corner, punching something that I couldn't quite make out. His entire left hand was on fire (Actual red orange fire by the way) as he grunted and punched with extreme force. I noticed Egyn leaning against the wall with a blank expression, looking between Iblis and the ceiling. I had no idea what was with him and ceilings but I didn't think much of it.
Egyn looked over to the door at me for a second but his expression didn't change as he pushed off the wall and made his way over to us. He stopped in front of me and looked me up and down and rather suddenly put his hand on my shoulder but looked up at my face.
"Your eyelashes are longer" he said. I tilted my head in confusion. What kind of conversation starter was that? When I was allowed outside, most people would start with a simple "Hello" or "How are you?" Then again I had been stuck in that house for so many years; perhaps customs have changed.
He squeezed my shoulder lightly.
"And your bones are thinner" He looked to my middle and stared in concentration.
"Your waist is smaller and your hips are wider"
He tilted his head back up to my face. "And your hair is longer"
He leaned in a bit closer and sniffed softly. "And you smell nicer"
He turned his back to me and tilted his head to the floor.
"You're a girl" he almost whispered and shut the door behind him.
"No shit Sherlock" I thought and scratched my head. Lucifer had made that quite clear for the several hours I had been with them and I failed to see how my gender was important anyway. However, Egyn didn't seem to care; he sounded more like he was coming to a conclusion rather than disgust like Lucifer.
I tried not to think about it too much and concluded that everyone here was psychotic in one way or another. However, Egyn did remind me of something.
"Samael…" I said almost unconsciously as I took my head out of the room. He turned to me.
"Yes?"
"How did everyone get here?"
He grinned slightly and put his finger to his chin in mock thought. "Hm, I believe we all came here in a carriage if I recall~"
I put my palm to my forehead again but didn't say anything else. It was useless to ask Samael anything. Either he actually didn't know or he just wanted to mess with me and keep the answer to himself. Most likely the latter.
The rest of the night was rather uneventful. We visited a few more rooms such as a comfortable lounging room that seemed like it was only for the servants; we went out into a spacious courtyard complete with a fountain and glowing evening blooms.
We finally returned to my room, thankfully never running into father. I opened the door to find Clair sprawled out on my bed, fast asleep. To be honest, I was ready to join her.
I went over to my bed and plopped down, my face in the pillow.
"Good night mein liebling~ Do get some rest" Samael said from my door. I grunted something incoherent into the pillow. But before they left I heard Samael almost whisper something.
"You'll certainly need it" I heard the door shut and all was quiet and dark. I had no idea what Samael meant by that but I was too tired to really care. And what the hell does 'mein liebling' mean?
A/N: So this is mostly the end for introductions. The next chapters will have some actual action and this time will come out a lot sooner. As always comment and review. See ya next chapter!
