Asami secures the bandana around Korra's head and waves a hand in front of her face. "Can you see me?" she questions smiling to herself for thinking of the blindfolded date.
Korra tilts her head to the side with a smile tugging at her lips. I can see our feet but I'm not telling you that.
"Nope!" She reaches forward, searching for Asami, "Oh no I can't see!" She giggles as her hands brush against Asami's shoulders. "How am I going to put my helmet on if I can't see?" she asks giving a light squeeze to Asami's shoulders.
Asami shakes her head. Goofball. She grabs the extra helmet and stands in front of her date, studying the girl she fell for years ago. "I can put it on you, silly," she says as she carefully moves some hair back from Korra's face before placing it over Korra's head and pushing it down, careful not to move the bandana too much. After successfully doing so she holds two fingers up. "How many fingers am I holding up?"
Korra tilts her head to the side and shrugs, "I don't know. Three?"
Asami chuckles softly. Good the bandana is still secure. "Nope," she answers back as she puts on her own helmet, swings her leg over her bike, kicks up the stand and brings the bike to life.
Korra jumps at the sound and spins around aimlessly not knowing where to go until she feels a hand grab hers. She halts at the contact, blushing. How can she do this to me?
Asami pulls Korra over to her side, excitement flowing through her body because this is finally happening. Asami feels Korra's hand graze her shoulder as she tries to find her surroundings. Spirits take the wheel. Feeling Korra's warmth against her back and arms wrap around her waist causes a shudder to surge through her body. I hope I don't combust before the night is over because this is heaven. A slight squeeze around her waist brings her back down to reality. Here goes nothing, she thinks before revving the bike up and heading towards her destination.
As they come to a stop Korra tries to make out the faint noises she can hear around them. Where are we? This does not sound like any restaurant I've been to before. When they come to a complete stop Korra jumps off the bike, curiosity taking over as she begins to pull off the helmet.
Asami turns around at the abrupt absence of warmth, seeing that Korra is off the bike standing on her tiptoes bouncing lightly because well that's what she does when she is excited. Lifting up her visor to get a better look at an excited Korra her eyes snap open as she sees Korra starting to take her helmet off. "Hey! Not yet," she manages to get out before Korra lifts the helmet completely over her head.
Korra's arms drop to her side as she lets out a groan that is muffled because of the helmet being half on and off, "Whyyyyyyy?" She whines as she tilts her head back to the dusk sky.
Asami pulls her helmet off and holds it against her hip amused that her friend is so impatient,. "Because I said so," she says before getting off her bike and placing her helmet down in the pouch. She turns towards Korra entertained by her pouting. "Okay, when I take off your helmet and bandana you have to stay looking at me, alright?"
Korra nods her head enthusiastically causing her helmet to loosen more. "Yeah…Okay, just get this thing off me already."
Asami shakes her head rolling her eyes as she reaches to take the helmet off then the bandana.
Korra blinks her eyes as they adjust to the light around her. "Where are we?" she asks as she takes in her surroundings in front of her. All I see is cars.
Asami pops back up from bending down to put the helmet away and exchanging it for a small purse with a gleam in her eyes. "Guess!"
Korra starts to turn her head to look around more and Asami lightly slaps her on the shoulder. "No looking. Just guess." Korra raises her lip in a mocking manner as she uses her senses to piece together where they may be.
Well I'm in a parking lot…and there are a lot of commotion going on like random screams and rings and bells…I got it! "Are we going to a boxing match? Or a hockey arena?
Asami looks up to the dusk sky smiling while in thought, "Uhhh…no…Here's a hint: You always wanted to go but we are usually busy and can't."
Korra's mouth drops when all the sounds become clear; hearing the familiar clicking noise followed by screams, the ringing from all the fair games, and the smells from the awesome food. I don't believe it. "The Republic City Fair!?" She asks before spinning around taking in the sight of the rides and flashing lights while jumping up and down on the balls of her feet. She hears laughter beside her and before Korra realizes what she is doing she has Asami in her arms crushing her in a bear hug.
Asami lets out a breath of air while Korra unleashes her from the crushing hug then holds her out at arms length. "This is so great!" she proclaims, grabbing Asami's hand and pulling her towards the entrance of the fair.
Asami turns around swiftly holding a handful of tickets out to Korra. "I think this will be enough," she exclaims as she shoves half of them in Korra arms.
Korra blinks looking at all the tickets that were placed in her hands. Her expression changes as she cocks an eyebrow up. "Are you sure?" she says sarcastically while looking between her date and the tickets. "We may need to go on the rides more than five times each."
"Ha…ha," Asami says mockingly as she folds her tickets and places them in her purse.
After Korra folds her tickets and places them in her pocket, she takes in her surroundings. The smell of fair food fills the air. The sound of laughter and screams are far and near. The lights on the rides flash brightly in intricate designs and illuminate faintly on Asami's pale skin. Could this be more perfect? Korra watches as the lights bounce off her dates skin, entranced by the beauty of well, Asami.
Korra snaps out of her daze when she feels a hand brush down her arm then wrap around it. She turns to meet jade orbs full of adventure. "Where to first…games, food, or rides?" Asami asks as she begins to pull her down the strip of fair games. Is this a dream?
Korra follows closely behind Asami in awe as she takes in the different types of games before stopping abruptly, causing Asami to almost fall on her face. Spinning around Asami follows Korra's gaze to the pitching game and her eyes narrow when she catches the familiar green and silver that only the Ba Sing Se Badgermoles wear. Why are they here?
Korra looks back to Asami, eyebrows scrunched together and a frown noticeably on her face. They make eye contact for a second before Korra starts to stomp off in the other teams direction, steam practically coming from her ears.
Asami whisper screams, "Korra come back here right now, we are on a date, what are you doing?" Groaning in frustration, she chases after Korra and stretches forward just far enough to grab Korra's wrist and pulls her behind a balloon dart-popping booth before she gets too close to them.
Asami stares at Korra her brow scrunched together with worry on her face. "We are here on a date remember, not to start fights with our rivals." Asami relaxes as she pulls Korra in for a hug whispering into her ear, "How 'bout we get something to eat before we ride some rides, huh? And just forget that we even saw them."
Korra's face softens to Asami's words and she appreciates the close contact. She's right. I can't let Kuvira ruin this for us. Taking a deep breath she begins to calm herself and squeeze Asami back. "Yeah that sounds-"sounds-"
"Well, well, well look what we have here, the Avatar and her pathetic pitcher."
Too late.
"You will never be half the pitcher that she is Kuvira," Korra spins aggressively shoving a finger in her face. "If anyone should have that title it should be you-"
Korra feels a tug as she is yanked back by Asami who steps forward between the two. "Why, hello Kuvira," she says with a halfhearted smile. "It's so nice to see you. It's a shame you have to greet people with insults in order to feel superior instead of actually showing your skills," she says with notable mockery in her tone.
Kuvira snorts looking back at her teammates then returns her gaze back to Asami, anger filling her eyes. "Oh I will show you my skills in a couple weeks when we play against each other, Princess."
"Why not right now?" Asami puts on a sly smile as she places a hand on her hip and points to the direction of the pitching game that they were at just moments ago.
Korra looks back and forth between her nemesis and date, blood boiling as she tries to contain her anger and not make things worse. I really wish I could just punch her in her smug little face.
Laughter explodes from Kuvira before she inches closer to Asami. "I don't waste my time with petty games, especially against someone who has no skill." A wave of "ohs" envelope the space around them as the team begins to high five behind their captain.
Korra starts to step forward when she notices that Asami has started to make her way past Kuvira, leaving her behind. Where is she going?
"Then I guess you won't have a hard time beating me if there's no skill to compete with," she calls back as she digs in her purse and hands the guy some yuans. He gives her 3 balls and starts to explain the game but she has already walked away from him to take her position. I'll show her. Ruin my date. How dare she.
Korra watches intently as Asami walks away from the game, fire is in her eyes. She is mad. I would hate to be Kuvira right now.
Asami looks between the mat with the catcher painted on it and where she is standing, gauging if she is far enough away. After deciding that she is she motions Korra to come over with her head.
Korra looks around to make sure it is her she is motioning too then makes her way past Kuvira, who looks very upset right now but is trying to hide it, and sticks her tongue out while passing. I hope she wipes the floor with you.
Asami shakes her head as her date strides towards her in confidence, head held high. When Korra reaches her date Asami bends slightly down to Korra's ear and whispers in annoyance, "I'm going to shut this buttercup up so we can continue on our date okay, so while I'm crushing her think of something to eat. Oh and hold this," Korra nods as Asami's purse is shoved into her hands. She stares down Kuvira as she walks away from her date. She is so pissed.
Korra steps back away from Asami and watches as Kuvira and her team moves to the other side of Asami. Korra's eyes meet with Kuvira's and a sneer breaks across Kuvira's face before she focuses on Asami. "Come on princess. I don't have all day," she snaps at Asami in frustration.
Korra growls to herself but stays put. Don't charge her Korra. Don't do it. Just watch Asami.
Asami ignores Kuvira's call and flips her hair over her shoulder and begins to roll the ball in her hand concentrating on the seams. After getting a good feel of the ball she brings her hands up and begins her pitch, she rocks forward then back before fully rotating her arm and sending it the catchers mitt painted on the mat standing before her.
The workers jaw drops as the ball flies past him. The speed-o-meter light up with the number and Korra's face brightens: 74 mph. She looks over to Kuvira and just catches her brow furrowing and the rest of her teammates looking back and forth to one another. Korra chuckles to herself as Asami delivers the next pitch: 72 mph. Korra's smile becomes bigger as she makes eye contact with Asami before she delivers the final pitch. She's got this in the bag.
Asami hears the familiar smack soon after the ball leaves her hand. She looks up at the monitor that posts the speed: 75 mph. She grins to herself and feels arms wrap around her waist. Soon she's off the ground and spinning in the air, laughter and praise filling the air around her. She feels her toes touch the ground again, as well as Korra's lips against her ear. "Asami that was so great that's the fastest pitch you've ever delivered!" Huh, I guess it was…
Korra holds Asami out at arms length, "I think you may have broke Kuvira's soul," she says with a grin. "Good."
Kuvira steps up besides Asami anger washing over her, "Move Princess. It's time for a real pitcher to throw."
Laughing, Asami takes Korra's hand and starts to walk away, She hears the ball hit the mat and turns looking at the speed: 69, and "A real pitcher should get above 70, Come on Korra I don't have to stay to know I beat this loser."
Kuvira groaned throwing the balls down to the ground charging towards Asami but didn't get far before being grabbed by her teammates. "Let me go!" She screams as Korra and Asami round the corner.
Asami let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and looked at Korra who has a wide grin; Smiling back at her date she asks, "now what are we eating?"
Korra sat the turkey leg down on her plate and let out a satisfying sigh. "Asami that is one of the best turkey legs I have ever eaten."
Laughing, Asami reaches over with her napkin and wipes grease off Korra's face. "You're a mess."
Korra's cheeks darkened as she realized that her date just wiped her face. It wouldn't be the first time though. Embarrassed she quickly fumbles to change the subject, "Ha…ha…yeah…so rides next? I think I've had enough games for tonight," she finishes quickly before she can mess up her sentence.
Asami raised an eyebrow but answer's the question, "yeah! What ride do you want to go on?"
Korra beams before slamming her hand down on the table with excitement. "The Slingshot!"
Asami's face drops and turns white. Anything but that. Korra notices the change in expression and leans across the table. "Is that okay? You will go with me won't you? I've always wanted to go on it and who better than my best friend!" Spirits. Why that ride? Asami smiles softly and reaches across the table to grab Korra's hand. "Of course! Whatever you want." Hopefully we won't die.
Korra wiggles her eyebrows at Asami, "Anything?" Asami's eyes darken and her lips curl up as she leans closer she whispers, "yes anything, but I thought we'd leave that for another date." Winking, she gets up to throw away their trash.
Korra's cheeks darken and her mouth separates not knowing what to say. How does she do this to me? Why does she do this? Getting up, she follows Asami with the rest of the trash. Standing beside her, she stutters before speaking, "S...so…so the slingshot?
Asami turns to Korra proud of herself for stumping Korra. Entangling her fingers with Korra's, she pulls her closer so their noses are touching.
Korra takes in a sharp breath and holds it. Is this really happening? Oh my Spirits I have turkey breathe. This can't happen by a trashcan.
Asami takes a breath in appreciation of the moment, thinking about how this could play out, but decides to be playful instead. "Race you there," Asami says as she takes off towards the ride.
Are you freaking kidding me? Korra lets out the breath she was holding. Why does she have to be such a tease? Shaking her head she races after her, weaving through others enjoying the fair. Catching up to her date, she laughs, "When did you become so fast?"
Asami turns her head to call back, "someone has to be better than you at something."
Korra snickers admiring carefree Asami. This is the Asami I love the most. "Babe, you are better than me at most things," she calls out. Korra sees Asami shake her head before she turns a corner and stops. Stopping close behind her, they gaze at the ride. "Ready?" Korra asks.
Looking back with confidence and adventurous eyes Asami asks, "do you want to buy the video that comes with the ride?" I'm going to regret this but I know Korra will love it.
Korra's face lights up, but before she can answer Asami is already buying the full package.
Korra's jumping up and down with joy in her eyes. "I can't believe this is happening. I've always wanted to do this and I get to do it with you!" Running up the stairs to the ride operator she pauses to wait for Asami who is slowly climbing the stairs.
Just don't throw up Asami. Don't do it. Be cool. I'm with Korra. Everything. Will. Be. Fine. It won't be like that video you saw on YouTube. Everything is fine. Reaching the top of the stairs with Korra she puts on the best smile and nods.
Korra takes her hand and excitedly pulls her onto the platform so they can get on the ride. Sitting down in the seats the operator of the ride straps them in and makes sure that everything is secured. After everything is secured, the ride operators run over to the control panel.
Korra leans over to look at Asami as she feels her hand tightening on hers. Raising an eyebrow Korra asks, "Are you ready?"
Asami looks up and meets bright blue orbs nodding her answers back. "Remember when you asked me when I first liked you and I asked you back but you never answered?"
Korra nodded back looking intently into her date's eyes. "Now would be a good time to tell me when." Confused Korra tilts her head. "Why?"
"So I know before we die on this ride."
Korra chuckles loudly and wipes joyful tears from her eyes before looking back at Asami who has a very serious face. "Wait you're being serious?"
Dead silence.
"We're not gonna-"
*snap*
"Dieeeeee…"
