apoorvam77: oh wow, i've never read about Mary with a Slytherin guy - it's actually really cool :D x
I love Mary with a Slytherin guy! I even shipped her once with Bartemius Crouch Jr., not a snake but a DE :)
Marlene's POV
"So?" I tapped my foot impatiently as I waited for Sirius to respond. Crossing my arm I looked at the dark haired boy, definitely not surprised to catch him wandering past bed time but curious why he seem lost for words. Sirius Black is never lost for words. "Well...I...I was hungry you see?" He showed me a half eaten apple in his hand. "But then I saw your bestfriend and decided to follow her. You're not telling me it's okay for her to sneak out and not me, little Mack, that's like bias, very bias." He said with a hint of a smile, malice dripping from his voice. He regained his suave composure and smirked at me but I can't even glare at him due to the things he said about Mary. He means Mary right? She's my bestfriend, so why is she sneaking out without me knowing about it.
Usually, one of us does sneak out to meet one another or to go to each other's towers but not tonight, we didn't make any plans, so that means only one thing: she's meeting someone else. Clearly, this is the secret that Mary has been keeping for the past days. The same secret that makes her later than usual to our classes and forget quizzes and homework. "You mean Mary? How can I be sure you're not lying just to get off the hook?" I asked the supposed Black heir in front of me with a challenging stare.
"Just look for yourself." He gestured to the window that provided an unobstructed view of the grounds. There I saw a shadow of a long haired girl trying her best to stay hidden but clearly failing due to the strong illumination that the moon provided. I wasn't sure if it was really her but I am set into finding out. "I'll go after her, you should go back to the Gryffindor tower. I won't be taking any points from you in return, just leave and pray you won't come across another prefect on the way."
I saw him roll his eyes even though I was still looking at the direction of the grounds trying to rack my brain what could have Mary be thinking for sneaking out like this out there in the open. "Oh no, Mack. I'm here and I will go with you. Take 100 points for all I care, McGonagall is used to it by now. Come along, we should see what your lover is doing meeting another girl." That earned him a deathly glare. Sure, people always joke around about me and Mary being lesbians and we just laugh at it but there are appropriate times to drop that joke. Clearly, Sirius knows anything but appropriate timing. Actually, I don't think he even knows what appropriate means.
"Suit yourself but the moment someone catch us, you will be my scapegoat. I will say I only caught you that's why we're in the grounds, is that clear?" I asked him sternly. "Aye, aye, captain!" He mocked salute at me and showed the way leading to our destination. "After you, my lady." He said with false curtsy that made me want to smack him in the head but stopped myself from doing so. The bloke had infuriated me for years but as James' bestfriend, I have tolerated him and he's really not that bad actually, if he stops spewing nonsense and show his real side which is not often.
I took the lead and soon we were creeping into the night as well. "Did you see the direction she went?" I whispered to the Gryffindor boy. "I think she was going to the Black lake. Perfectly romantic meeting place if you ask me." He told me with a teasing smile and I can't help but roll my eyes at his absurd thoughts. "Why are you set on going with me anyway?" I asked. "Well, for one, I am bored and got nothing else to do and two, I want to see who is Mary's mystery lover. She has been too closed off for years, who knew that finally someone got into her." He finished with a strange tone in his voice. Is that regret or disappointment? I can't be sure but he was right. Who would have thought? Definitely not me, her own bestfriend.
I am trying my best not to feel betrayed about the idea that she's finally having the time of her life with someone, learning to fall in love and all that without me knowing. Not that I can blame her since I haven't told her as well about my ill feelings about a certain four-eyed lad. It's just that, that was something I was trying to forget and I know that by confiding about it to someone, even to my bestfriend, it will just continue to grow and stay there.
"Okay, stay quiet now, we're almost there." I saw the last of Mary's shadow as she finally arrived at the lake. I led Sirius behind trees that will effectively conceal us yet will provide us with a good view of Mary and her companion. Sirius was right, she was meeting someone. I crept closer, careful not to step on a twig or trip so not to attract any attention. Sirius did the same as he moved quietly like a cat. Now, safely hidden, we concentrated on Mary and the guy she was with. She effectively blocks our view of who might the bloke is so I try my best to crane my neck and spy more on my bestfriend. "Can you see who it is?" I asked and looked at Sirius.
He was taller so he might have better view even though Mary and the guy were seated sideways from where we are. I looked at Sirius and noticed how he was clenching his jaw with an obvious scowl on his face. Why the guy can be all cheery and malicious one minute and seem to be fuming mad the next, I can't figure out. "Hey..." I tried to catch his attention with a soft jab on his side with my elbow. "Who is it?" I asked once again since he obviously already seen who it was. He looked at me with that grim and annoyed expression. "William Nott, that's who it is!" He said through seethed teeth.
"I can't believe she will even choose him and here I was thinking I wasn't good enough for her!" That taken me aback. Sirius likes Mary? My head was spinning. All these revelations in one night is becoming too much. "You like her?" I croaked out. So, that's why he wanted to follow her, that's why he was always easy on teasing her all these years, that's why I always catch him looking at her then immediately look somewhere else. Instead of answering me, he just looked at me as if I asked if his mother reads to him at night and stormed off.
