"For god sake Gail just go and talk to her"
Gail frowned looking at Traci as she entered the locker Gail as led on the bench with her Arm over her face
"You've been quiet for most of the week and it's obviously to do with what happened at the party, so go see her"
"Don't know what you're talking about" Gail sighed fixing her uniform.
Traci shook her head placing her hand on her hip"You don't fool me Peck,I know you to well"
"She's not interested Traci ok?,I tried to make things right at the party and she lost it with me" Gail moaned
"Lost it with you"?
"Yeah completely" Gail nodded "she said something about not being a straight girls crutch"
Traci shook her head "And why would she come out with something like that?"
Gail looked down at the floor and mumbled
"What"? Traci said straining to hear her
Gail rolled her eyes "because I kissed her, I stupidly thought kissing her would sort things out but it didn't, it just made her mad and me look like some desperado"
"Gail you are not a desperado"Traci laughed "you're just handling things wrong"
Traci sat down next to the confused blonde "ok look! I get the feeling Holly sees you for who you really are Gail, she doesn't buy this ice queen bravado, and she certainly isn't fazed by your name" Traci stopped half expecting Gail to interrupt her but she didn't " And because of that" she continued " I think you should just go tell her how much you like her, tell her how much you would really like it if she would let you take her out"
Gail shook her head "I can't"
"Why can't you"? Train asked
Gail stood up fiddling with her belt "because"
"Because"?
"Because she makes me feel weird" Gail said screwing up her face "she makes me want to say stupid stuff and then I make an idiot out of myself ,and if I'm honest Trac it isn't that much fine"
Traci laughed "wow, Gail Peck the quitter,? That's a new one for me"
Gail stood tall pulling down her vest" I'm not a quitter" I don't quit"
Traci nodded heading towards the exit of the locker room "prove it, get Holly to see how serious you are"
Gail sighed heavily looking up at the ceiling ... "This is bullshit" she whispered to herself
"Hey Gail" came Chloe's voice as she bounced into the locker rooms "we're paired up today, do you wanna drive?"
Gail closed her eyes, a million sarcastic insults shot through her brain, but with Holly weighting heavily on her she decided that for now she would allow Chloe " nah you drive" she answered closing her locker door

"Lunch"? Amy Luck grinned standing at Holly's office door
"Read my mind"Holly smiled closing the file she was reading .
"Chicken ok"Amy asked digging through the bag she came in with
"Yep"Holly nodded" so how's your shift going"?
"It's actually been quiet this morning" Amy explained "not that I'm complaining"
"Quiet"? Holly laughed "I didn't think a cops shift was ever quiet"?
Amy swallowed her food" yeah well 15 diversion are picking up a lot of the cases, not that I mind . it means I have the weekend off which brings me to why I'm here " the cop smile "there's this new Thai restaurant opening down town thought I'd check it out , you wanna come"?
Holly's mind raced back to that night on the balcony where Gail had mentioned how the gossip around the force was that she and Amy were sleeping together
"So"?
Holly snapped out of her thoughts " uh yeah I'd love too" she smiled "but can I ask you something"?
"Sure"
"Are there rumours about us going around the diversions"?
Amy shifted in her seat "what kinda rumours"?
Holly shrugged" well I was told that people assume you and I are sleeping together"?
Amy smiled a little before getting up to dispose of the remains of her lunch" who told you that"?
Holly swallowed "Gail"
"Gail Peck is an idiot Holly"Amy laughed "I'll text you later about dinner , I gotta go"
And with that Amy left Holly slightly confused . Amy hadn't confirmed nor denied the rumours,was Gail right? Was she the talk of the police force? Was hanging out with Amy a good idea?
Holly signed leaning back on her chair " this sucks" she said out loud
"Tell me about it " Oliver laughed appearing at the brunettes door
"Oliver? Hi"
"How ya doing Doc"? The balding man smiled
Holly nodded "I'm good and you "?
Oliver also nodded" pretty good yup, so ...I have some things for you to sign"
Holly frowned "doesn't the courier usually being this kinda stuff over"?
"Uh yeah yeah.. But uh well it's a new one and he's not exactly bright" Oliver joked.
Holly wasn't sure she believed the police officer but she allowed it "there you go" she said signing all the paperwork
"So uh tomorrow nights "get together night" at the Penny, you should come"?
Holly bit her bottom lip " that's uh .. Sweet of you Oliver but I have plans"
"Oh.. Oliver pouted " ok well you know you're welcome anytime right"? Us cops really are not as bad as we seem, I mean some of us actually have really good hearts underneath these horrible vest" he grinned pulling at his chest .
Holly nodded wondering if Oliver was trying to say something with out actually saying something? Was it about her and Gail ? Did he know? Did he hear the rumours that Gail had said about ?
Holly had enough and decided she wasn't going to let it get to her no more .. So what if they want to assume things about her and Amy, they were friends and Holly appreciated how welcoming and helpful Amy had been since she arrived . And if Gail Peck didn't like it then tough .

The next evening Holly pulled up outside 27 division as Amy had finished work
"So I see what you'll be doing later" Wes teased nodding towards Holly's car
"Shhhhh Wes" Amy hushed him
"What? am I wrong"? He laughed
"Holly and I are just"...
"Just what? " Wes laughed
"Just mind your own business ok" Amy laughed as she approached the car
"Enjoy your night ladies " Wes smiled empathising the" Ladies"
"What does he mean by that"? Holly asked
"Wes is just being a idiot , ignore him so I don't know about you but I'm starving" Amy added changing the subject .
Holly nodded pulling off
Once inside the restaurant Amy scans the menu taking about what she's thinking of having .. "What looks good to you?" She asks.
Holly is in a world of her own thoughts, she couldn't shake off what Gail had said and now Wes' little comment added fuel to her thoughts.
"Holly"? Amy laughed "hellllllo earth to Holly"?
"What"? Holly jumped at the sound of the officers voice "sorry did you say something"?
Amy shook her head smiling" I asked what you liked the look of"?
"Oh".. Holly looked down at the menu" sorry I haven't looked"
"Where did you go"? Amy asked
Holly shrugged "it's been a long day, I'm tired"
"Oh.. Well we could get food to go"? Chill at your place"?
"It's fine" Holly said forcing a smile" we can just stay"
Amy nodded in agreement as the waiter asked for their order.
Amy ordered a beer and a Thai green curry, while Holly settled for a salad and a mineral water ..
Amy dominated most of the conversation while holly just nodded along
"So you didn't say much about the party last weekend" Amy asked noticing Holly's preoccupied state.
Holly just shrugged "nothing much to tell , it was lavish like you said it would be, and I had a good time"
"A good time at a Peck party"? Amy laughed "that has to be the first time I've ever heard that"
"Have you ever been to one"? Holly asked causing Amy to answer with a shake of her head
"Then how do you know? Holly fumed "I mean you just listen to what people say so it must be true"?
Amy was a little taken back by Holly's shortness" well I uh.. I just.
"You know what Amy ,maybe Gail's the way she is because of what people presume? , and maybe the reason she's cold is because of how people talk bad about her? And maybe ... Just maybe she doesn't want to be a detective because people just assume she only got it because of her name "?
I mean have you ever had a normal conversation with the women"?
Amy laughed "absolutely not, and believe me when I tell you Gail Peck isn't the kind of person who participates in small talk"
Holly shook her head she has enough of talking about Gail even if she wanted more then anything to defend her...
"Are you done "? She asked pointing to Amy's plate
"Yeah, wanna go for a quick drink at the Penny"?
"Uh no .. I kinda want an early night" Holly explained
Amy had asked Holly to drop her off at the Penny, If Holly wanted to end her night early that was up to her but Amy had other ideas.. Just as she pulled up Holly turned to her friend "I'm sorry I've been a little off tonight"
"Don't worry about it"? Amy said waving her hand
"Amy i have you say something and I really don't want it to come out wrong so I'm just gonna say it and hope it doesn't"
Amy frowned " ok this doesn't sound good" she laughed
Holly looked out on to the street " I don't feel comfortable about being the talk of the police force" Holly began " ever since i found out we were I just can't help but think that every time I see a cop I wonder what they're thinking "
"Holly there's always some thing or some one , they will soon get bored don't worry about it" Amy shrugged
"I know I shouldn't but I can't help it, I care what people think and say about me, and when it's not true it upsets me" Holly sulked
Amy took off her seat belt and turned to face Holly " well how about we just give them something to really talk about"? She whispered as she leaned in
"Wha...Holly didn't get time to finish before she felt Amy's lips crash into hers, her lips were warm and inviting and Holly for a spilt second thought about reciprocating but it felt wrong , it wasn't fair on Amy
"No," Holly pulled away " I'm sorry Amy We can't"
"We can" Amy smiled leaning in again. Holly moved quickly "I'm sorry I just can't"
Amy slumped back into her chair "this is about Gail isn't it"?
Holly jaw dropped a little "Gail"?
"Mmmmmhmmmmm" Amy nodded "she's the reason your rejecting me isn't she"?
"Nothings going on between Gail and I" Holly protested
"Physically maybe not, but mentally there is, I see the way she looks at you,... the way her body tenses when someone mentions your name, at first I thought it was just her but"... Amy shook her head rubbing her hands down her jeans ..."but then I realised that she becomes topic of our conversation quiet a lot, tonight when you snapped at me confirmed it"
Holly felt terrible . She could see the disappointment in Amy's face " nothing's going on between us"
"No but you want it to " don't you"? The officer asked " I mean you've fallen for her "?
Holly looked out of the window again biting her lip " I'm not really sure what I feel right now,... " Amy I'd like to think that we are friends so I wanna be honest with you " Gail and I do have history,we met at this camp thing not so long ago, we spent time together and uh...
"You've slept with Peck" Amy blurted out
Holly looked over at her "we spent time together" she repeated.."it didn't end well and since then things have been..well they've been... Stained "
"I can't believe it" Amy laughed " I mean I get it , you know she's .. She's good looking , i would be lying if I said she didn't turn my head when I first met her but then... Amy laughed again " well then she opened her mouth and..
"Please don't" Holly held her hand up stopping Amy from insulting Gail again
"So why aren't you two "? You know"?
Holly rolled her eyes with a heavy sigh " it's a long story, and I really don't have the energy to go over it "
Amy sat silently for a while taking it all in " I'm sorry I kissed you"
Shaking her head Holly took the cops hand " Hey don't be, Amy your great and if my head wasn't all over the place I would be all over you" she laughed as did Amy "it just wouldn't be fair .. I don't even know what's happening between Gail and I , but I know that I'm not in the place to start something with someone else "
" I get it Hols, really I do and I'm not hurt , I would really like if we can still be friends though "?
"Thank god" Holly sighed with a smile " yes god yes ...defiantly I don't want this to change anything between us"
"Good "Amy smiled squeezing Holly's hand " ok so I'm gonna go get a drink , sure you don't want a night cap"?
"Nah" Holly smiled pushing her glasses up her nose .
Amy hoped out the car turning back " Holly I just need to ask you something "?
"Ok"?
"Gail Peck? I mean really "?
Holly laughed " there's more to her then you see"
"Take your word for it" Amy laughed "night Hol"
Holly waved as Amy shut the door waving back .

Amy made her way to the bar tapping Wes on the shoulder " get me a double"
"luck what are you doing here ? I thought you were getting lucky"? He laughed loudly
"Just get me a drink ok"
Wes could see luck wasn't in the mood for being teased " you ok "?
Amy shrugged scanning the room finding Gail sat glaring at her "seems Chloe isn't the only one that prefers the losers of diversion 15" she sulked
"What?who?" Wes asked following Amy's eye line
"No fucking way"? Peck? Please tell me your yanking my chain "?
Amy shook her head downing her drink" nope Holly is 100% well and truly head fucked over her "
Wes looked over at Gail one more time " I don't get it ? She's a class A bitch"
Amy shrugged " I'm not gonna let it get to me, Holly and I are still friends"
Wes placed his arm around his partners neck kissing her head " lets get drunk "
"Chloe can I ask you something"? Gail mutters at the bathroom sink
"Sure"Chloe smiled whist reapplying lipstick
"Ok firstly if you mention this to anyone I will kill you " secondly that includes that nerd you're dating and thirdly ..never . Ever . Mention this to me again got it"?
Chloe screwed her face up laughing " well I don't know what you're actually talking about "
" you were married to Wes "
"Gail "?
"No I'm not digging at you , it's well .. Being married to him you must have gotten to know Luck pretty well"?
"Amy"? Yeah sure "Chloe smiled
"You're smiling , which can only mean you're gonna tell me how nice she is " Gail moaned

Gail had got to the point where she couldn't care less who knew about her and Holly.
"Because she's hanging out with Holly and I don't like it " she blurted out .
"You like Doctor Stewart"?
"Chloe if I say yes I will never live it down , your squeal like a pig and every time I look at you , you will have that sappy happy ever after grin on your face so I'm not going to answer ok "?
Chloe grinned " but that does mean yes right "?
"Out"Gail ordered pointing to the door ..
Chloe ran out giggling leaving Gail alone .. As she stared at herself in the mirror the cubicle door opened
Amy stood beside Gail washing her hands
"You don't need to ask Chloe about me Gail , you could just ask me what's going on with Holly "?
Gail swallowed as she began to wash her own hands " it's none my business "
"No it's not you're right, but I will just tell you that you're an idiot"
"Excuse me " Gail snapped
"You heard me Peck , you can't see just what's in front on you? Holly told me all about you two , she also told me how things didn't end well .. But what she didn't tell me but it's clear to see is ... She wants you Gail , why ? I don't know but she does "
Gail gripped the sink looking into the mirror " why you telling me this , it's obvious to see you want her for yourself"
"Yeah I did.. And then I tested the waters and she knocked me back, she knocked me back because she's head fucked over you , so why don't you do something about it"?
"She won't even talk to me" Gail moaned
Amy dried had hands on some paper towel before throwing it in the trash can " well get her to Peck because I like her and I'll be waiting in the wings...You fuck up and I'll be there to offer a shoulder to cry on and a friendly ear ..
Gail stood alone in bathroom smiling slightly, Holly was still into her , all she has to do now was to get Holly to see she's not just a straight girl after some fun ..
