Holly strolled into work with a spring in her step. Last night was nothing if not enjoyable, as much as she wanted to hold back a little each time she was with Gail it proved difficult,
"Good morning Rodney"? She smiled entering the lab.
"Hi Doc, you uh ..have another parcel"
Holly frowned wondering what Gail was up to now ,as she opened her office door she was greeted by a huge bear and a bouquet of roses .
Holly couldn't help but laugh as she read the card attached to the bears ear.
" So I told the bear about this hot Doctor I spent some time with last night and he was really jealous when I told him how I got a kiss off her... So much so he wanted to meet you :) ...(the flowers are from him)
He also wants to know what my chances are of taking you out again ? No sports included... Xx G .
Holly held the card to her chest as she bit her bottom lip .
"Woah.. Someone popular "Officer Luck smiled at the door
"Oh hey" Holly smiled sorting down at her desk placing the card in her draw "is this an official visit"?
Luck took a closer look at the flowers before nodding "Actually it is.. I have some samples for you to work on when you're free"
Holly accepted the samples trying to keep the conversation professional "when do you need them by"?
Luck shrugged "Chief said when you've got a minute so whenever ... Peck"? She asked pointing to the bear .. Holly didn't answer "wow she is pushing the boat out ,or are you two"?
Holly tried not to smile as she looked at the grinning soft toy "we've been out"
"Out or put out"? Luck asked with sarcasm
Holly didn't appreciate the tone of her friends voice "We hung out Amy .. That's it" she answered abruptly
Luck could see Holly wasn't amused by her teasing "ok ok " she held her hands up "I'm only pulling your leg "
Holly sighed raising her eyebrows .
"Anyways I better go but uh ... Some of us are heading to the penny tonight ,you wanna join "?
Holly knew Amy was never gonna be ok with her and Gail and she had to accept that , she knew Luck was attracted to her and that is wasn't easy to know the feeling wasn't mutual. She also really did like Amy and want to continue their friendship
"Sure, I'll head over after work"?
Amy nodded "awesome, see ya later"
As soon as Holly was alone she took her phone out ..
H- couldn't have told a "smaller" friend about your date huh?"
Gail was traveling in the squad car with nick when the text came through.
G- nah .. Go big or go home Lunchbox. :)
H- lunchbox?
G- yep.. That is what you carry around with you all day isn't it?
H- that would be a forensic kit not a lunchbox
G- keep telling yourself that nerd... So?

G- so you haven't answered the bears question.. Do I get a second date ?
Holly didn't reply she thought She would tease Gail a little and make her wait .
"What's got you grinning like an idiot"? Nick asked looking over at her
"None of your business" Gail snapped checking her phone..

Gail turned in her seat to face her ex boyfriend "why does it have to be a guy"? Just because I'm laughing at a text does not mean it's a guy... Unlike you Nicholas ...i don't flitter from one person to the next " Ok so Gail knew that was a complete lie because she had bedded Holly at camp a little while after her and nick broke up ..but he didn't need to know that .
"I was only asking Gail no need to be all "you" about it"
Gail huffed sittin back in her seat "anyways .. Even if it was a "someone" I wouldn't be talking to you about it "
Nick left it at that he wasn't in the mood to be berated by Gail ...
Gail glared at him a little longer before he got out of the car heading toward the station
Gail made her way to her desk before taking her phone out of her vest ..
G- ok so your one of these people that like to take a thousand years to answer a question huh?
Holly was at her computer analysing the samples from earlier that day ..
Reading Gail's text she laughs causing Rodney to look at her

Rodney laughed under his breath "nothing... That cop really isn't giving up is she"? He added
Holly just smiled reading her message
H- what can I say I like to weigh up all the pros and cons .
G- mmmmm well I can tell you what they are .. Pros? Dinner (paid for by myself) .. Unlimited flirting ..( the cheek blushing kind) annddddd a little more goodnight kissing (if you allow) ..cons? Well there aren't any ..so?!
Holly bit her lip to stop her laughing
H-hmmmm I don't know gail I mean I wouldn't want you having to much of a good thing..
G- ha .. Ha... You do know that bear comes in a bigger size right ?
H- ok ok enough of the gifts .. As lovely as they are , fine you win ,I'll go to dinner with you .
Gail fist pumped "yes"
Nick looked at her from the corner of his eye
"What"? She barked
"Nothing" he laughed "I've just never seen Gail Peck fist pump"
"Shut up loser" she sighed going back to her phone
G- ok so is tonight to soon?
"Crap" Holly frowned tonight would have been perfect had she not agreed to hang out with the cops from 27 division
H- unfortunately yes .. I have plans..
Gail sulked a little, she knew it would be to forward to ask Holly what she was doing.. She didn't want to seem disappointed so she tried to keep it light
G- well you lucked out Stewart.. I bet your plans are not as fun as hanging out with a really hot cop! (Me) :p
Holly sighed completely agreeing wishing she had texted Gail before Amy showed up
H- well I don't know about that Peck, I'll be hanging out with a load of cops this evening.. I'm sure there will be a hot one amongst them :)
Gail frowned completely giving up on the playing it cool texting back in seconds

Just as Holly was about to reply her phone rang .. Gail's name flashed on her screen

Holly bit her lip liking the fact Gail seemed a little jealous "well unfortunately I can't agree with you on that because I haven't had the pleasure of meeting every cop in the city "
"You don't have to meet every cop, you've already got the attention of the finest cop there is" Gail laughed

"Yup, so ? How about you cancel your plans and come play with me"?

Holly laughed again "ok you do that, but uh.. I would like to remind you that I am socialising with a lot of cops tonight, there just might be someone willing to give you a run for your money"?

Holly was about to say something when the line went dead "Gail?"

G- so you're really going to hang out with a bunch of losers tonight ?

Gail threw her phone on the table "this sucks"
"Hey Gail " Chloe grinned sitting at the side of Gail

"Why are you and Dov not gonna be there?"

Holly was quiet on the way to the morgue .. Gail knew it was about the kid she found in the cupboard ... She remembered Holly telling her that kids were the downside of her job ..
" you're really gentle " Gail spoke
"Hmmmm?"
"With the bodies " Gail explained looking over at the brunette for the first time since they got in the car .. " your really careful and gentle "
Holly smiled "well they're still people Gail "
Gail nodded .. She knew that .. But in her job she's learned to get over death very quickly .. Once the bodies had been removed from the crime scene she hadn't gave them a second thought .. Something her mother drilled into her " accept it's happened then move on.. Show no emotion .. It isn't professional" that was how the Pecks handle things

Holly worked her way through the three bodies taking tests and samples .. "Ok so John Doe has a name , he's in the system " she tells Gail ..
Gail notes down all the information Holly tells her before stepping out the room to inform her brother ..As she returns she stops at the door and her heart breaks
Holly is sat stroking the hair of the forth body .. Her eyes filled with tears .. She slowly begins to wash the blood off the kids face ..
"Steve said thanks " Gail says slowly not to make Holly jump
Holly give her a quick smile before continuing her work ..
Gail sits quietly allowing Holly to have her moment ..
As Holly finishes cleaning up the kids face she sighed heavily " he's just a child Gail , I'd say no older then 16 "
Gail nods "sucks huh "?
Holly nods wiping her eyes " this is the part I hate "
" I don't know how you do it " Gail says
"You have to get on with it I guess " Holly replies
"But you don't .. Your so involved "Gail smiled moving the hair away from Holly's eyes " you're so kind and caring , you treat their bodies so well.. Everything is slow and gentle .. Like you're afraid to break them "
Holly sniffs " you know people always ask me why I do this , and it's simple .. I feel like even though the persons not here anymore they deserve a decent ending .. The families have a right to know why they died .. How they died .. They deserve closer "
"well"... Gail smiled placing a small kiss on the Doctors cheek " I think your amazing and what you do is amazing , and I for one would be happy to know that someone like you would care for me so delicately when my time comes "
Holly smiled " for someone that doesn't do "cute" that's a really cute thing to say "
"Yeah well don't get use to it " the cop winks " I'm gonna find us some coffee "
Gail " Holly calls out just before Gail leaves " thank you "
Gail nods leaving Holly alone to gather herself ..
When Gail returns Holly is sat in her office typing away at her computer
" I thought you went home to make that coffee "? She smiled
Gail smiled "no I uh .. Thought I'd give you a minute "
"Thanks .. So are one of those for me"? She asks pointing to the cups in Gail's hands .. "Oh yeah .. Sorry " she shakes her head placing a cup on the desk .. " hey so I was thinking"
"Oooo should I be worried " Holly jokes sipping her luke warm coffee
"Funny ". Gail sulks "anyways .. I know today's been a little tough on you so ... If you know .. You wanted to reschedule our date ?.. I'd be ok with that "
Holly tilted her head and that beautiful lopsided smile Gail likes so much appeared " it has been tough yeah and if I'm honest I would much rather just head home and stay there tonight "
Gail nods " I understand .. I'm on late's the rest of the week though .. so maybe we can do something at the weekend"?
Holly shook her head " I didn't mean like cancel our date .. I meant that maybe we could just hang out at my places?" We can order take out or I'll cook"
Gail felt a rush of excitement about being alone with Holly .. Like completely alone .. In Holly's house .. Just the two of them.. But she knew it wasn't the time for flirting
"I'd like that " she smiles
"Me too " Holly smiled ...
