Because I Was Bored Chapter One Part Three
"Long time no see Kagome!" The raspy yell made Kagome squeal in her surprise she let go of the ladder. Strong hands wrapped around hers before she could fall, looking up her deep blue eyes met with a striking green. A blush spread across her face and the red headed man smiled pulling her effortlessly out of the well. The small cough brought her attention away from the emerald eyes to what she could only see was a small child. He waved at the girl a too deep chuckle coming from behind the pacifier, Kagome silently wiggled her fingers back at him. "So you pay attention to the toddler but not your long lost cousin, I see how it is." Looking over Kagome met the eyes of a tall boy with slicked back black hair, he wore a dark jacket atop a white t-shirt his jeans were torn in the knees she knew he didn't care though.
'He never was one to care about fashion.' After the thought crossed her mind realization dawned. "Yusuke!" She squealed and jumped into the boys arms he managed to catch her at the last second pulling her into a tight hug. Only a pair of red eyes caught the look of jealousy that crossed the red heads face.
"So how are you doin' kid?" Yusuke asked pushing Kagome to arm's length taking in her whole appearance. Before she could answer her cousins question Kagome threw her hands to her mouth in horror looking from the group to the well and back. She stuttered wracking her brain to come up with an excuse as to why she had been in the old well.
'I was cleaning it! No why would I be in my school uniform and carrying a backpack? Stupid you have to be more careful!' Franticly she continued looking from what seemed to be prying eyes to her own disheveled appearance. Only then did she notice the sting from the claw marks on her hips or the bump forming on the back of her head.
"Come Kagome, we all have much to explain." Green eyes caught her own again and wordlessly she followed the man with red hair.
"Oh sure ignore the cousin again. Now she's payin' attention to the fox." Yusuke mumbled following behind Kagome his arms crossed brow knitted in frustration. Aforementioned fox laughed to himself and in an act of teasing his friend and selfishness he fell back to wrap his arm around the miko smiling down at her. Kagome blushed, something seemed familiar about the man guiding her body back to her own home somehow she just couldn't put her finger on it. Absent mindedly she reached under her shirt rubbing the already healing scratches on her otherwise flawless skin.
"Welcome back everyone," A soft voice called from the kitchen, the woman poked her head around the doorway she had black hair tied up her brown eyes surveyed the group. "Oh hello Kagome honey, we were just about to sit down to dinner. Will you be joining?"
"We have much to discuss Miss Higurashi, so please set a place for Kagome as well." Kagome watched in confusion as the red head talked comfortably with her mother. She had been gone two weeks from her home this time but surely she shouldn't be this lost, too much couldn't have happened while she was away.
"No need to be so polite Shuichi!" Miss Higurashi smiled her brown eyes closed in a silent giggle as Shuichi protested telling her his mother had raised him better than that. Kagome looked over her shoulder at her cousin her brows raised in confusion Yusuke just shrugged laughter in his eyes. After a gesture from her cousin she followed the group into her family's dining room and sat with the group. As her mother dished up their dinner she took the moment of silence to really inspect the group surrounding her. To her right sat her cousin, she quickly glanced over him already knowing everything she could about him. He lived with his mother, loved to skip school, had a bad reputation, and had a girlfriend who was far too good for him. Her blue eyes slid to the man on her left, silently the red head sipped on the hot tea her mother had placed on the table his green eyes were closed as he enjoyed it. Kagome took this moment the man was distracted to memorize his face. He was too beautiful for his own good and Kagome nearly laughed wondering how many times he was mistaken for a girl from the back. Looking harder she scoffed at the thought, his red hair fell over broad shoulders to rest on his strong chest. His black shirt was tucked into white suit pants a long white jacket lay next to him the completion to his outfit. His slender face had Kagome licking her lips, something about him made her want to reach over and roughly pull his face to hers.
Trying her hardest to hide the blush on her face Kagome continued her surveillance around the room. Her eyes met glaring red ones next focusing on his eyes but being sure to take in all she could she gasped when a soft glow came from behind the white headband tied just below his spikey black hair. A sharp pain had her grabbing at her head a moan escaping her lips, quickly she moved on to the person sitting across from her. The man was the tallest of the six his orange hair hung over his face in a poof, he smiled at Kagome laughing a somewhat goofy laugh. She couldn't help but giggle with him for a moment before taking in the last two of her shrines visitors. They sat side by side at the end of the table the woman had blue hair and pink eyes her hands rested on her knees, she wore a pink kimono that fit her seemingly bubbly personality. Noticing Kagome's attention the woman smiled, the miko smiled back politely then moved to the last guest. He was the one that boggled her mind, he was the size and seemingly shape of a toddler and in his mouth he sucked on a blue pacifier as time went on the sucking got louder. He wore blue clothing with a red sash his large had adorned with a small black Jr. Still staring trying to figure out exactly what rubbed her the wrong way about this toddler her mother surprised them with big heaps of food.
"If my memory is correct Yusuke alone could eat half this by himself so don't be afraid to eat what you can before he gets to it!" Kagome's mother announced to the group all of them laughing at the blush that had creeped across the teens face. Following the advice of Miss Higurashi the guests piled as much as they could onto their plates, Kagome watched her and Shuichi the only two taking a modest amount. Smiling Kagome's mother left the room allowing the group to have the private chat she knew they were waiting for.
"Well then I guess we best tell you why we are here Kagome," The girl was shocked when the too male voice came from the toddlers body, Yusuke laughed at her wide eyes.
"You really should warn people before you assault peoples ears with that weird voice Koenma." Kagome couldn't help but chuckle at her cousin's remark, she had been startled.
"Then allow me to introduce me and my team. My full name is King Enma Jr." Again Kagome's eyes widened realizing exactly who was sitting at her table scarfing down the white rice and grilled fish her mother had prepared. Before Kagome could work past the knot in her throat and formally greet her important guest he continued with the introductions. "Next to me is my assistant Botan or better known as the grim reaper!" Kagome gasped looking at the bubbly girl the sleeve of her pink kimono covering her upturned lips as she giggled. She had admitted to Enma's heir that she enjoyed the reaction of humans when they found out she was a collector of dying souls, ever since he had paused at her introduction when meeting new people. As the grim reaper giggled with satisfaction Koenma continued. "The angry little fellow giving you the stink eye is Hiei. His bark is worse than his bite!" Said little fellow glared at Koenma sending a shiver down his spine. "Moving on," The prince coughed his eyes closing in nervousness. "The tall buffoon with orange hair is Kazuma Kuwabara, though we just call him Kuwabara."
"Hey!" Kuwabara yelled crossing his arms. "I am not a buffoon!"
"Coulda fooled me," Yusuke mumbled laughing when his friend puffed his chest out even more in protest.
"Boys leave your schoolyard banter for another time, this is serious!" Koenma whined getting eye rolls from both boys who went back to glaring at each other the moment Koenma looked away. "Then last but not least is Kura- I mean Shuichi." The prince gestured to the red head next to her who was now looking intently at her his tea forgotten.
"H-hello, it's nice to meet you all." Kagome smiled eventually breaking her gaze away from Shuichi to look pleadingly at her cousin. 'I'm so confused!' She willed her thoughts to reach Yusuke hoping he would provide an answer.
"Long story short you need our help we need yours." Trying to answer her silent question Yusuke only provided more.
"B-but how can I help you?" She asked looking anywhere in the room but the eyes looking at her.
"I think you know how miko," Shuichi smiled down at Kagome her heart skipping a beat weather out of fear or desire she could not tell.
"Well my secret is apparently blown, how much do you know?" Kagome looked accusingly at her cousin who shifted under her icy stare.
"Everything," He whimpered, Keiko used the same tactic on him and he caved every time.
"I've seen this man stand up to some of the strongest opponents I've ever seen and you Kagome bring him down with a look." Shuichi chuckled coaxing giggles from the rest of the table, just one sat with his red eyes closed wondering how a woman could gain such power over Yusuke.
"So who exactly were these strongest opponents?" Kagome asked her glare seemingly plastered on her face. Despite the wary looks of his companions Yusuke was compelled to tell his cousin everything. He explained how he was hit by a car and died only to find out the child he saved would have walked away with a few less scratches. He told her of the Dark Tournament and the fights he had. She cried when he explained the death of his teacher, she tackled him with a hug when she saw the pain still fresh in his eyes. Yusuke explained in great detail the fights each member faced against Team Toguro. Kagome watched each fighters eyes as Yusuke recounted their fantastic tale. He gave control of the story to Koenma and he explained the situation they had faced with Sensui and his team, she smiled at Kuwabara when he scratched his head embarrassed when they told of his gaining the ability to cut through barriers. Yusuke finished the story with the tournament in the demon world she hadn't known existed.
"You guys have had quite the adventure!" She laughed though something had seemed off in their looks as they told the story. Shuichi would glare at Yusuke and quickly he would correct himself though Kagome could not figure out what mistake he was making. Staying silent she scanned the group for anything akin to ill intent and found nothing other than Hiei who seemed to always give off some want for bloodshed. She watched him out of the corner of her eye the pain was back in her mind and she could see the glowing behind his headband, it seemed they hadn't told her everything. 'Do they not trust me?' Hiei seemed to shift as the thought passed her mind. 'You've got a cute little butt Hiei!'
"Hah…" Hiei proclaimed looking at the miko his eyes round the pain was back in her head.
"Why you little!" She yelled her icy glare focusing on him. "I knew something was off, stay out of my head!" She huffed flicking her hair as she left the room sending a glare over her shoulder at anyone who dare make eye contact with her.
"Damn she got you shorty!" Kagome heard Kuwabara yell as she stomped to her room. A few minutes later and she could hear soft footsteps following the path she had taken to her room, a timid knock sounded on her closed door.
"Come in Yusuke." She sighed laying on her pink sheets thinking of the events that brought her to this point, surprising herself she wondered what a certain silver fox was doing and weather Inuyasha had caught up with him.
"Hey cuz," He smiled leaning against her doorway. "You know they get better the longer you know em. Hiei tried to kill me the first time we met you're lucky ya got away with just a probe to the mind." He chuckled at her concerned expression. "Seems we did leave out a bit more of the story than I thought. Only fair though, Koenma talks a big game but him and his daddy aren't as all powerful as they'd like you to believe. Ya didn't hear that from me though." He whispered the last part winking and she laughed letting out a long sigh.
"I guess we really are related huh?" Yusuke nodded crossing his arms and looking at the sky out the cracked window in her room.
"Both facing life or death situations not by choice, yep, related. I wonder who we get it from." They laughed thinking of their crazy relatives.
"So what is going on here that you'd need my help with. I'm an expert of the past five hundred years in the future however I'm lost. You should see my math scores." She whined throwing her arms over her eyes Yusuke laughed hardily at her school worries.
"Hell Kagome you should see my scores! Ya know Shuichi could tutor you if you want when we have down time. You know if you agree to help us that is." She saw the glint in his eye and sighed, he knew how important school was to her. 'I'm sure he didn't miss my glances at him either. What is it about him that gets under my skin? And I swear Hiei if you are in my mind again and you are causing this headache I will blast you into the next century!' Though the small hybrid had only peered into the last bit of her thought he knew she was talking to him.
'Damn women…' He thought silently leaving the room without a second glance at his teammates. Shuichi watched his friend leave, he knew how surprising this human woman could be. His friend would learn quickly not to mess with her. A deep chuckle sounded in Shuichi's mind and gold flecks danced in his eyes.
