A Jecker Story - Chapter 13 - Explosion

Jess' POV
As me and Becker walked through the ARC the news had spread quick that he had been cleared of illness and as we walked through the corridors everyone cheered, shook his hand, give him a slap on the back and told him how glad they were that he was OK. By the time he had walked me to the ADD he had already greeted everyone who was working and even Lester had come out of his office to greet Becker and say how glad he was Becker was OK.

The morning flew by at the ARC with Becker hiding away everyone had come to find me to give me messages of congratulations and now I wished I had gone to hide away with him, it was sweet of everyone to care so much but at the same time it would be nice to have at least half an hour of peace to get all my work done.

Lunchtime rolled around and the phone rung, I looked at Lester in his office but seen it wasn't him calling me like it normally is "Jess Parker speaking" I said when I answered.

"Hello Jess Parker this is Captain Becker speaking" He said with a laugh.

"Hi Captain Becker, what can I do for you?" I asked.

"Well I was wondering if I could take my girlfriend out for lunch in... Half an hour?" He questioned.

"I'm sure she would love too" I answered.

"Great, see you at the truck in an hour" He said and we hung up.

For some reason I was extremely excited to be going out for a date with Becker I had butterflies in my stomach and it felt like I was going out on a first date with him all over again. I couldn't think about anything other then our date, he didn't normally ask me to go out for lunch or anything so I couldn't shake the feeling that he wanted to say something to me... Something important.

Abby came over to me at the ADD "Hey, want to go for lunch?" She asked.

"Well aren't I popular today, sorry I can't today me and Becker are going out for lunch" I told her.

"Oh going anywhere nice?" She asked with a smirk.

"I have no idea he just phoned me and told me to meet him at his truck in an hour... I got a feeling that he wants to talk to me about something important he doesn't normally ask me out for lunch or anything" I explained to her.

"Maybe he's going to ask you to marry him" She said with an excited look on her face.

"Yeah right" I answered.

An hour later I got up off my chair, picked up my bag, made sure Lisa who was taking over from me was OK and then I made my way towards the car park to Becker's truck.

I got to Becker's truck but he wasn't there and I got my phone out to ring him but I didn't have any signal so I got my keys out of my bag and opened the truck with my spare set and jumped in and waited for Becker, one moment I was sitting there in silence waiting for him and then there was a huge bang.

Becker's POV
The ARC shook and I grabbed hold of the wall to steady myself then there was alarms and screaming everywhere. I rushed to the ADD and seen Lisa sitting in Jess' chair "What happened? Where's Jess?" I asked urgently.

"There's been an explosion in the car park... Where Jess went to meet you" She answered.

I got onto the comm system and told everyone to go to the car park and the core team and Lester came rushing over to and I told them there had been an explosion in the car park and that's where Jess had gone. Me, Matt and the soldiers were going down to the car park to rescue people, put the fire out and see if we could find the cause of the explosion, Abby and Connor were going to evacuate the rest of the ARC, Emily was going to get the first aid supplies ready for the casualties and Lester was going to phone the emergency services.

When I got down to the car park we had some fire extinguishers and went around putting out as much as we could, I found my truck overturned in the corner on fire. I rushed over to the truck and threw the door open to see Jess laying on the roof of the car bleeding and unconscious, I grabbed her and brought her out of the car and tried to wake her up but she was out cold.

I brought Jess out and to the safety zone and went back for more casualties when I seen Jess was with Abby and she was going to be looked after. The body count was rising high at the minute we were at number 7 and six casualties including Jess, we were about to go back in and get the last of the people out but the fire fighters turned up and they went inside and did their job.

I went to the hospital to see Jess but when I got there I was told that she was with the doctors and we had to wait for them to be finished, they said they didn't know anything yet.

How could this happen to us? We were just getting back on track and getting ready to have a baby and just start our lives together and now this happens, there is someone who wants to me suffer for some reason. I felt so guilty about her being in this situation because if I was there to meet her on time we would have been on our way to lunch and we wouldn't be here, it was my fault that she was here. It's not my fault that there was an explosion but it was my fault Jess was caught up in it and when I find out who did this to her I was going to kill them and I didn't care if I lost my job!

The doctor came out of a room and looked at all of us "Who's responsible for her?" He asked.

"I'm her boyfriend" I stated.

"OK come with me" He said and I followed him to his office where we sat down at the desk "First of all I want to say that Miss Parker is very lucky to be alive right now, the way she was found and everything I would expect her to be dead but she isn't so there's a good chance she's going to be OK but I'm not going to lie to you... She's in a coma due to a serious head injury and I'm not one hundred percent sure she's going to come out of it but she's a fighter. As well as the serious head injury she also has a broken leg and a broken rib and the rib she's broken it has punctured he lung, the puncture is only small and we can sort that out in surgery but it's going to be a risky surgery" He explained.

"What's her chances of survival?" I asked.

"I'm going to say luck is on her side and in my professional opinion I say there is seventy percent chance that she is going to make it but there is still that thirty percent chance that she isn't, I think you need to let her family know how seriously ill she is and they should be prepared for the worst" He said.

"OK... Thank you doctor I'll go and phone them now" We shook hands and we left the office.

I found a pay phone on the way to the others and decided to use this moment to phone Jess' parents "Hello?" Sandra said when she answered.

"Hi Sandra it's Becker" I stated.

"What's happened?" She asked.

"Jess has been involved in an... Explosion. She is really ill and the doctor told me that there's a thirty percent chance she'll die and he wants us prepared for the worst" I explained to her.

"Me and Jack are on our way" She said and we hung up.

Thirty minutes Sandra, Jack and me where sitting in a room and I explained to them everything the doctor had told me. They were obviously upset and wanted the family to be together so they said would there be any chance Mark could come and see her but no way was I having that. That boy nearly cost me and Jess our future together there is no way he is coming anywhere near her or me for that matter because I will shoot him and it won't be with an EMD I can assure you that much.

Jack said he understood but he wanted them all to be together so he went and spoke to Lester and Lester set it up that Mark can come and see Jess for an hour with his parents and armed guards, Sandra and Jack knew that I hated Mark and told me they wanted me to go home for the time he was here. How dare they ask me to leave Jess here with the guy that pushed her down the stairs? I saved her from that car I wanted to be here for her, anything could happen during the time I was gone and I didn't want to miss anything.

Lester made me go home and said he would stay and call me the second anything happens whether it be good or bad, he said to clean myself up and get some stuff for Jess because she was going to be here for a while but I know he was just saying that to get me to go.

When I got home I had a shower, took the dogs out, fed the dogs, watered the dogs and got some of Jess' stuff for when she woke up and by the time I had done all that it was well past an hour so I made my way back to the hospital and on my way in I seen Mark on his way out "Shame the bomb didn't hit her" He said and laughed. I lunged for him and I felt someone holding me back and seen Connor and Matt grabbing me and pulling me away from him "Go on hit me!" He shouted.

His armed guards took him out of the building and Matt and Connor let go of me "I hate him, I wanna shot him so bad!" I shouted.

I went to Jess' room and see her mum and dad sitting at her bedside table, Sandra was holding her hand and crying "Becker you're back, we were just going" Jack stated and they stood up, he walked over to me and he shook my hand "Look after her" He said and I nodded.

I sat next to Jess and put the bag of things under her bed for when she woke up, I held her hand and looked at her in her fragile state. She was so pale and it looked like that at any given moment she was going to give up on me and die and leave mew here. I blinked back my tears and looked down for a moment before looking back at her "You better wake up soon Jess because I really need you here with me, I love you and I promise the second you wake up we'll go away somewhere nice and just take a break from life, I'll ask Abby and Connor to watch the dogs and we can just relax for a while and just be with each other without interruptions" I kissed her lips and sat down in the chair again.
